3 ½ stars. I didn’t feel surprise, delight, or wow, but it was an enjoyable escape.

STORY BRIEF:
The story begins with happily married couple Frankie (wife) and Clay. Clay comes home from work and finds his wife gone. A cup of coffee is spilled on the floor, not cleaned up. The police suspect Clay killed her but have no proof. Clay hires a PI who finds nothing. Two years pass. Clay comes home from work and finds Frankie sleeping in his bed. She has amnesia and can’t explain what happened. She has needle marks in her arms and a tattoo on her neck. The rest of the story is from two points of view. One: the reader watches the couple slowly uncover clues and learn what happened to Frankie. Part of this is Frankie slowly remembering bits and pieces about her capture. Two: the reader sees through the eyes of the kidnapper. She escaped from him. He is angry. From his point of view we learn more about why he desires her and their past.

REVIEWER’S OPINION:
The book cover states “romantic suspense.” But this is not traditional romance because the couple is already together when the book starts. You might say this is the second half of a romance which starts with a separation. There is conflict connected to the separation because Clay doesn’t feel he can trust her anymore. It has some romantic elements because there are some sex scenes and there is a happy ending. Technically this is more of a “mild suspense thriller.” Thriller because we watch the bad guy as he plans to re-kidnap Frankie. This is not scary edge of your seat – it’s milder than that. Although Frankie has amnesia, she feels fear and buys a gun which is smart. She doesn’t want to be a victim again, which is something I like. It was a good story watching things develop. I enjoyed identifying and sympathizing with the two main characters.

Clay is loving, generous, kind, patient, unselfish, and protective. While she is recovering he cooks for her. He encourages her not to do much around the house. He’s also that way during sex. He is tall and handsome. Other women desire him. He works as a foreman in his father’s construction company.

Frankie lost her parents at age four and was raised in an orphanage. She obtained a degree in library science and works in the local library. She’s intelligent with a pleasant personality. She’s very much in love with Clay.

DATA:
Story length: 373 pages. Swearing language: mild, including religious swear words. Sexual language: none/mild. Number of sex scenes: 4. Estimated number of sex scene pages: 11. Setting: current day Denver, Colorado, Southern California, Las Vegas, Nevada, and Albuquerque, New Mexico. Copyright: 1999. Genre: suspense thriller with romance.

It was time for a suspense thriller. I just didn't expect it to SUCK so badly that I threw it across the room two thirds of the way thru. My husband called out, "It's a flinger!" Not many books are that StOopid that they have that distinction.

The premise: Francesca is one year blissfully married. Her husband goes to work one day, and when he comes home the door is unlocked, there's a broken coffee cup in the kitchen, and blood on the bathroom sink, and Frankie is gone. Two years later? He comes home and she's lying in his bed, thinking it's the same day that she left. What the heck happened?

First... selective amnesia is the loss of memory for a specific period of time. But Frankie doesn't only forget those two years, she forgets portions of her childhood that are convenient to the author, as well. LARGE portions of her childhood, since the bad guy happened to have monopolized her childhood, youth, AND adolescence.

Second... her husband hired a P.I. to find her, but the guy never ONCE looked into her background to see if there was anyone who might come after her? Completely unbelievable.

Third... when the cops figure out who it is, they 'can't find him'... Not even possible. Especially since the guy was just in the hospital in Vegas. A simple SSN check would reveal his location. It was absolutely ridiculous.

In addition, Frankie keeps having flashbacks, but the author (and her characters) hurry past them, not even mentioning them out loud. If you're trying to fill in holes, you need EVERY bit of information. The bust of Isis counts. So does the memory of dark hair, a hand over your mouth in the bathroom... she never tells ANYONE any of it. Ho.Mi. GAWSH!!!!

Then... a stranger moves in across the street. Wow, honey, it's a single, strong-looking, dark man with no furniture or belongings. Let's NOT tell the cops and have him checked out, because there's nothing suspicious about THAT.

That's when I threw the book across the room. I couldn't STAND it another minute. C'mon! Maybe you have the ability to string words together to make a fast-paced and decently written book, but if you can't make us believe what's happening, it's just SO not worth it.

Another good one by Sharon Sala. I was very excited to read this book so I put it off a while to savor the anticipation. The writing was fast paced and exciting. I liked the hero and how, even when he was accused of murdering his wife, he still loved her and missed her. She was a bit less well developed but only by a small degree. Enjoyable secondary characters and a different sort of villian.

Fast pace and exciting! 4 1/2 Stars
Francesca and Clay were a combustible couple with a love s strong that it was tested when Francesca disappeared for two years and returned to Clay without knowledge of what happened to her. Very well written the plot was fresh and exciting. I would definitely recommend this book.

This is by far one of my favorites by Sharon Sala. I could never imagine what the characters of the book went through. Nor would I want to live it.

I felt as though I too struggled along with them trying to understand what had happened and what was going on. A very intense and emotional ride!

Sala is a very "easy to read" Author and Love her! I look forward to many many more books by her.

This book’s premise had all kinds of promise—promise that it couldn’t fulfill.

Frankie LeGrand disappeared from her house not long after her marriage to her construction foreman husband. The cops, the community, everyone but Clay’s parents, were sure he killed the woman. Two years later, she shows up in his bed on a rainy day not unlike the one on which she disappeared. She had suffered a concussion, and she had lost her memory. She had no idea where she had been during the two years. But as is the case with tropes like this in books, her memory gradually began to return.

There’s way too much open-door sex in here to suit me. It was tiresome, largely uncreative, and a consummate waste of my time. Furthermore, whoever edited this prior to publication shouldn’t have worked in that industry at all. I hope that hapless individual has done the industry a favor and gotten out. Someone’s heart skips a beat in this book about every second paragraph, and that’s only a super-mild exaggeration. This got so bad I pictured these characters all wandering about with halter monitors attached to them and daily reports flooding their respective cardiologists. Eventually the amateurish phrase “His/her heart skipped a beat” began to stand out like pulsing, embossed print. Someone is going to leave a comment and point out that it’s silly that I’m allowing an oft-repeated phrase to seriously deplete my enjoyment of the book. But you don’t understand. It got so bad I almost fell to counting the occurrences. The images of Clay and Frankie sexing it up while wearing halter monitors and complaining that their body contortions was peeling back the tape holding the monitor in place overcame me in a place or two. For the record, no one wears a heart monitor. I just thought with all that beat skipping, someone should.

This is one of the author’s older books but it still has all the suspense and mystery of her newer books. The storyline begins showing a loving couple who had only been married a year when the wife suddenly disappears. Of course the first person blamed is the husband even though the police never found the wife’s body. Even the press and most of the residents of Denver blamed the husband, he never gave up looking for her or missing her. Then two years later she shows up with needle marks on her arms and no memory of the lost two years. It was this start that pulled you into the story and as you read, you could not wait to find out what happens next. Great story and one you will really enjoy.

I'm the type of reader who finishes one book of an author and stick to them till their last book published and I thought it would be the same with Sharon Sala. I read one of her books last year and it left an impression, so I thought I can try another. Nope, I didn't finish the book. I just stopped at the middle. I felt like the story was just a story. I didn't feel the characters. Some parts are repeated and feels like cliche. I feel like a horse whose eyes are focus in front. Only to see what the writer wants me to see. Anyone who feels the same?

This is a real page-turner! I read it all today, as I just couldn’t stop. Francesca disappears from her home on her first wedding anniversary, and is gone for two years, during which police believe her husband killed her, but can fine no evidence of that. She returns homes after the two years, with no memory of what has happened to her. It takes a lot to figure it out, and to realize that she is still in danger. Great, fun read!

Excellent romantic suspense by Sharon Sala. The heroine vanishes from her life, leaving her husband to be accused of her death. Two years later, she reappears without any memory of those two missing years. Sala orchestrates the complications with precision and heart, even for the bad guy. It's a great story. I liked it a lot.

Pretty gripping thriller

Another Sharon Sala winner. She weaves these characters intertwining back stories and bringing them into modern day. We feel the fright Francesca is grappling with and the absolute terror she finally realizes that SHE must save herself from the devil himself.

Bon bref nul.

Sharon Sala knows how to write romantic suspense thrillers, this is one of her older ones- but still very good. It's her characters that make her books so good, in this one it is Frankie and Clay.
