5 "Fuck Me" Stars!
photo Dr. Chase Hudson - Jessica Gadziala_zpsrtnojrfq.png

Almost everyone who read The Sex Surrogate (the first installment of this series and in the female POV) wanted to know more about the misterious and sexy Chase Hudson. Thank God for Jessica and the people who practically demanded this book!! LOL To me, it was totally necessary. Why? Well, at the end of the first book, I found myself knowing a lot less about Chase than I expected. Too many questions popped in my head: Why is he the way he is? Why did he decide to study Psychology? Why especialize on Sex Surrogacy? What was he feeling during his sessions with Ava? When did he discovered that he loved her? You see? LOOOOOOOOOADS of questions!

Of course, Jessica answered these questions in the novel! Dr. Chase Hudson is basically the first book but from Chase's POV and with a little bit more of new content at the end. Which was what I missed on The Sex Surrogate, so this (to me) was perfect!

I was prepared for her anxiety. I had been ready for her to be sitting ramrod straight, for her hands to be spread out on the cushions beside her, and for her head to snap up in my direction like a scared deer when the door closed.
All of that, I had expected.
What I hadn't expected was for her to be the prettiest fucking thing to ever set foot in my office.

So, if you haven't read the first book, let me tell you what all of this is about. This series tells the story of Ava (a woman who is struggling with anxiety and as a consequence she is not able to relax and enjoy sexual relationships) and Dr. Chase Hudson (a sex therapist and sex surrogate who will forever change her life). We saw Ava struggle for her feelings towards the sexologist in The Sex Surrogate. Well now we see Chase struggling with his feelings towards his patient.

I wasn't sure why I told her. Because she was so exposed to me? Because I wanted to even the playing field? Somehow, I didn't think that was it. I was pretty sure there was a part of me, a part of me I didn't quite understand because it didn't quite make sense, that just... wanted her to know me. Not as her doctor. Not as her surrogate. Just... as a person.

I really enjoyed getting into Chase's head. We now know about his life outside his workplace and we also discover very important aspects about his past. About his family (especially his mother and one of his foster brothers), about his friends and even lovers. I feel so bad and sad for him sometimes! Thank God for Ava and their lovely love story!! And, of course, always good to have their sexy times ;) These two are so cute together, I can't even!

She flung herself at me, sending us both falling backward as I wrapped my arms around her and her head rested on my chest. “It's mine,” she declared.
“What is?” I asked, squeezing her.
“My safest place in the world,” she said, lifting her head from it. “It's mine forever.”
My hand went to the side of her face. “It always has been,” I told her.

Therefore, my rating for Dr. Chase Hudson is 5 STARS. I really enjoyed this novel and getting to know Chase better. Also, I really loved having some extra content at the end! Sooooo amazing, and cute, and everything!!! (You'll see what I mean if you read it haha) So, if you read The Sex Surrogate and want to know more, don't hesitate to grab this! I am quite sure you will enjoy it! I totally recommend :)

Same book, better narrator. I skimmed a bit because ... same damn book.

His compliments remind me of never been kissed;

Sam Coulson: Well, all I can tell you is that when you get my age, guys will be lined up around the block for you.
Josie Geller: You have to say that 'cause you're my teacher.
Sam Coulson: Actually, I shouldn't say that because I'm your teacher.

His story is more interesting than hers. His past from his mom to foster care to meeting Mae.

His inner struggle was also more intense, less whiny. You finally understand just how unprofessional he was and how he was continually telling himself to recuse himself before he lost his license.

And there’s nothing better than a full blown panic attack on your wedding day. God bless anxiety. But how fucking cute is it that Chase just knows she’s freaking out. True love I tell ya!

How much do I love that he’s gonna calm her down on their wedding day in a way that used to terrify her? 😻

What a delightful little ending.

Oh, Dr. Chase Hudson...how he makes me swoon! I'm so very happy we got his POV. Finally things made a lot more sense on where he was coming from. I did enjoy this book, just as the original. I was expecting a bit more their future, and not so much of a re-telling of what we already read, but that's okay because I still liked it. It seems I can't get enough of Chase. This man...that is all. <3
Thanks so much for giving us more of Chase. It is very much appreciated!

Did we need this book? No, but it was a fun added bonus. A lot of it was the same as the previous book obviously but I appreciated how the author didn’t drag those moments on. It got the MMC’s POV across without any unnecessary filler. It also revealed more of his life like his backstory, friends, family, and how he got into his line of work. It was also narrated in a way to get the information out there without it being too long. It wasn’t enough substance to be a full fledged book but it was a pretty good bonus from the original novel.

3 xy take on sexual healing

I read the first book in this series (which you really need to do in order to read this one) that was written in first person from the female POV, so I was curious to see how the author dealt with the . male perspective. So as not to repeat myself about the major plot points, here is a link to my review of book 1 --> https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

This book examines the relationship between the sex surrogate and the patient from the doctor's perspective; the story is told in the same time as the first. It also contains a bonus epilogue told in dual POV.

As I said in my review of the first book, you absolutely have to suspend the reality of how a professional therapist would manage a relationship with a patient bc Chase pretty much crosses the line right out of the gate by using pet names like "baby," and "sweetheart," not to mention the times they met up outside of the office for various reasons and the phone sex incident that he pretended was part of the therapy process.

So, if you can do that, then it is a fun read that gives a little more insight about Chase's past as a foster kid that lived in a neglectful household with a mother who had an undiagnosed and untreated mental disorder as well as a substance abuse problem. It makes sense that he would want to help others who have those problems; the reason he got into sexual surrogacy was a little less clear (a reason was given, but it wasn't that compelling, or even ultimately, productive).

I felt like there was probably a lot more that could have been done with his story, but I think what would make the most sense would be to make the story one book told in dual POV. As for the epilogue, it made me like the roommate and friend from the first book more, but it was pretty unsatisfying as far as what happened to the main couple bc The epilogue actually brought my rating down 1/2 star (I rated the first book 3 & 1/2 rounded up) bc it was mostly disappointing.

Overall, a worthwhile read as long as you are in the right frame of mind to throw reality out and just enjoy the steamy goodness and chemistry between the main characters.

Plot --- 3/5
Main Characters --- 4/5
Supporting Cast --- 3.5/5
Steam Level* --- 4.5/5
Violence --- none
Language --- yeah (f-bombs away!)
POV --- 1st (Chase)
Epilogue POV --- Dual

*Note that steam level is not a rating so much as a how hot was it: 0/5 - clean; 1/5 - mild (nothing descriptive); 2/5 - 3rd base action/1 home run; 3/5 - now we're getting somewhere (a couple of full-on steamy scenes); 4/5 - yes please! (erotica territory); 5/5 - they did EVERYTHING in this one, y'all

Much to my surprise, while I found most of the love scenes physically hotter from Ava's POV (see my review of The Sex Surrogate [The Surrogate #1]), where I felt her emotions more keenly, I found the sequel, Dr. Chase Hudson (The Surrogate #2), emotionally hotter. The unfettered access to his thoughts and emotions was a different kind of seduction.

As a romance reader, I was thrilled to see that Chase was unable to think of Ava in a professional manner even during their initial meeting. Why? Because he's a sexual surrogate. That's his job. He's also really handsome and has no trouble getting women in his personal life. As a romance reader, I want, no need, for the heroine to be more than just another woman, more than just another job. Yes, I understand the ethical duties of him being her therapist, and he *should* have stopped things before their first therapy session. In a real life situation I'd absolutely expect him to do so. In a romance, however, I want him to be so drawn to her that he can't make himself walk away. Which is exactly the case. Chase is a good man, however, and continually struggles with his feelings. He knows he should drop her as a client, but he's also a caring doctor who sees a young woman who has tried unsuccessfully for years to get the help she needs and he genuinely believes he can help her. Putting her needs above his own desires, he keeps her as a client and does everything he can to suppress his feelings. He's a man in constant conflict. He's also dealing with issues of his own. Life can be messy; sometimes it sucks and you have to deal. And not everyone can be helped. I appreciated that the author didn't wrap everything up in a nice pretty bow, no matter how tempting the more pleasant path of Disney.

Another smart choice on Ms. Gadziala's part was giving Ava anxiety issues without tying them all to some traumatic childhood trauma. Yes, some of her anxieties were triggered by physical events. But anxieties aren't always reasonable or predictable, which is why they can be difficult to treat, as the author showcased.

Both books feature interesting secondary characters, particularly Ava's apartment mate, Jake, and her co-worker, Shay. In the beginning, Jake is a rather selfish guy. He's not bad, he's just kind of thoughtless, an open-mouth-insert-foot type that can make you cringe. He doesn't see how his words/actions hurt Ava and her lack of confidence and self-esteem keeps her from standing up for herself. Once Jake's eyes are opened, Jake begins a heartwarming transformation and becomes a really good friend. Shay starts out as a co-worker and though Ava's friendly with her, Ava's issues have prevented her from having any close friendships. As her self-confidence grows, she opens herself up to a true friendship with Shay. Shay's exactly the type of friend that Ava needs, encouraging Ava to get out, expand her comfort zone and actually live life.

As I've mentioned before, I chose to read This book and The Sex Surrogate concurrently. For me, this was the right choice. Some readers may find reading this method somewhat repetitive, but I found their differing mental and emotional views illuminating rather than irritating.

Given each book's different POV, The Sex Surrogate contains scenes that are not in Dr. Chase Hudson and vice versa. But Dr. Chase Hudson continues three years past the ending of The Sex Surrogate, so it answers questions about both primary and secondary characters that will not be addressed otherwise.

One final note -- on the author's website, she offers a free short story titled The Wedding: An Ava & Chase Short Story (The Surrogate #2.5), which is a great ending to the fantastic series. A perfect blend of eroticism and romance, I highly recommend Jessica Gadziala's The Surrogate series.

You wanted Chase? She gave us Chase!
It was such a pleasure to be in Chase 's head! It was what was missing....that piece that had to be placed in order to everything be right in my world....we asked and Jessica delivered.

What can I say? I'm enamoured! He had me feeling like that from the get go! Everything was deliciously done and let us understand what moved, inspired and shaped him.

Now, Jessica....is it too much to ask for a Holiday Special? ::grins::

I suppose I was rash in my judgement of the first book. The only reason I gave this book one star is because it was a retelling, and we all know that retelling in the hero's point of view is essentially re-reading a story with different pronouns.

His job is stupid. Homie got an office for sex. He keeps talking about how he is crossing the realms of professionalism, but in a job which requires intimacy - how could he remain professional?

“Desire may have, in a way, been a part of the process. It was supposed to be in a detached sort of way, a thing I managed to have happen so I could help my clients. It wasn't meant to be the point of it all.”

He says this about her friend... it's so seedy.

“Had I met her two weeks earlier, she would have been just my type.”

And he goes on and on about the physical nature of his relationship with a woman named Natalie, and how he usually goes for sexually confident women. And how when he saw Natalie again - technically he could have had her. Um I don't want a hero who gives himself a pat on the back for not f*cking another woman. And technically when he sets up the date, it's Natalie who takes the initiative to back off.

Obviously here is where my rash judgement came in as part of the first book. Because he's only ever had twelve patients. It's still off putting, but I felt better.

“Surrogacy is a very small part of my medical practice. I have been doing this for about a decade and I have only had about one surrogate patient a year.”

I'm still ruling it safe w exception.

This book is The Sex Surrogate from Dr. Chase Hudson's POV. Yeah... so we get to find out more about Chase's past and how his feelings for Ava develop. I really enjoyed getting into Chase's head. There were some things that thanks to this novella cleared up. I'm so happy that the last chapters are about their future but I was sad about one particular thing

Anyway I have to say Dr. Sex won me all over. The conflict between the right thing and what he wants is astonishing! Ava and Chase's love story is one of my favourite. So passionate, warm, and gentle..

I'd probably re-read their story again but first... the sequel - The Wedding ♥

This was enlightening. After reading Sex Surrogate, I was very curious about Chase's story and although this gives us insight, I would have liked a bit more. I felt like I still lacked understanding on to why he is so drawn to her when she is not his "typical" type.

I'm simply stating I would have liked a little more explanation on what it is specifically about her that he can't resist when she is such a contrast to the women he has always been attracted to.

Whereas Ava's story revolved around her anxiety issues, Chase's story was focused more on frustration and understanding and also had some inside about what happened after they got together. Although I was enjoying it, I quickly realized I was reading it too soon after the first book because my brain wouldn't stop screaming at me, "You've already read this and that dialogue! Why are you reading it again?" so I sometimes had to talk myself out of skipping pages.

I loved that Jessica Gadziala gave us a second book in the series through Chase's POV. He is such a delicious character and I loved being inside of his sexy head/ dirty mind. I'd love to see more of him because he was so fascinating and diverse. I want to know about his previous clients, how he got into the field, his dating life while he was single and more about their HEA.

The man is perfection! I can't imagine that there is anyone in the real world as amazing as him but if there is, I hope he opens a surrogate practice in my area and has a special on living social!

I loved this book and series. Totally sexy and a lot of fun to read.

I really enjoyed Chase's POV. We get Ava's in the first book and I felt like we needed Chase's perspective just to fully understand Chase. Where I was like does he have feelings for Ava or is this jus some professional sessions in the first book. Um no, his feelings for Ava are deep, intense, but also refreshing. He sees that she is a patient that truly struggles with life and well sex at first. Then, Ava grows on him. He wants to protect her and for really her to trust him. We also get a background on Chase and why he is the way he is. It was nice to visit these characters again through Chase's eyes. Great read.

I loved Chase's POV! I couldn't believe that he could get hotter, but i was wrong. He was rougher and naughtier and sexier than ever! I liked meeting Ava all over again through his eyes. She was more innocent and scared, while being sexier at the same time. Chase's friend Eddie from childhood plays a role in this story from Chase's perspective, and for some reason I wasn't really feeling the character.
4 sexy-doctor-stars! There was a lot of story plot repeated but i looked past it. I liked finding out his about his past, and what made him into the man he is.

I loved Chase's pov. However I do prefer dual pov's. It's was nice to see he was feeling the same as she was. So glad he didn't have moobs as well. I was worried when Nat appeared but thank goodness that fell through. Loved Shay and Jake as usual. So hoping that in the January special mentioned that Mae gets an HEA. I know women do not need to be with a man to feel fulfilled in life but she's still jumpy after a decade long friendship with Chase. I just don't want her to be afraid forever. I've never experienced what she has so I can't say what I'd do but I just have to hope that she can be healed on day. This book had closure for the couples the previous one did not offer which is something I loved.

4 Emotionally Charged Stars

it was so nice hearing Dr. Chase Hudson POV. It was still Sexy and Hot and I really enjoyed it. Although the love scenes where hotter in Ava's account of the story, Chase's was more emotionally charged. While I was reading Chase's story I couldn't help but feel sorry for him and the unprofessional situation he has gotten himself into.

Gone was Chase, the doctor. Or Chase, the surrogate.
It was just fucking me. Just what I wanted. Hard. Rough. Consuming.

It's a four because I liked the story, a lot. and I got to read Dr sexy Chase Hudson all dilemma and struggles.
But I skipped a lot in the dialogue, just taking Chase's POV. that eas the only thing that annoyed me, repeating. but it wasn't that much since this book is not a that big and being such easy to read.
And a great epilogue with surprises!
now I'm heading for the last one. a little extra epilogue

I gave this book a 4 because I like the author, plot, and characters. There is a huge but coming... The first book was from the female point of view and the second book was from the male point of few. I felt like I was rereading the same book with just some word changes. Still a great book, I guess I just don't like that. I haven't liked it previously in other books either, so I think I will just pass when it comes up again.
