Overall this is just a really fun read. The chuckles were many as the events were described, at times not so gracefully...but that's the charm of the book. Anyone that has ever raised a child, or in this case children can certainly relate to the stories here.
Although I do not necessarily have as much experience with menopause, I can relate somewhat from some personal relationships and perhaps even my own form of 'manopause'...
The author brings you into her own family and shares it's take on the world through her eyes, at times her rather skewed view of life is nothing if not hilarious...
A wonderful read.

Laugh out loud funny!

I came across this book while looking for some light reading as I had just finished a serious crime drama, and this book did not disappoint! The only problem I had was trying not to wake my husband up because I was having trouble controlling my laughter...seriously, this book is full of the giggle inducing stories. Absolutely a fun book!

Funny

This is like a diary of daily incidences mainly of poo and its relatable goings on.

What more can I say?

Still a funny book

if You Like Potty Humor this is for you

If you can even call it humor. This was not a good book. It was trite and unoriginal. Frankly the family sounds like a nightmare. The kids sound awful, a child who starts fires, outs used toilet papers on his sibling’s pillow, and attacks his sister with an excrement-encrusted toilet brush is a kid who could use professional help. And was he the same kid who took a jackknife to school and was arrested by police for waving a gun around near a school. What kind of parent gives a pellet gun that is indistinguishable from an AK47to a kid who sets fires and has taken a knife to school? Especially in south Florida where Tamir Rice was killed by police for the same thing? This woman thinks it’s funny when her daughter starts punching her public and when told to stop yells out, you’re such a rotten vagina? No wonder the author has to admit even her sister doesn’t want to babysit her kids. What’s funny about describing bowel movements at the dinner table? And that’s not just the kids. They author comes off as a bad tempered woman who doesn’t clean her house (she recommends buying kissed-colored—I raised 4 boys and one girl and guarantee you I never had this problem), the husband and author sound like they have drinking problems, their house sounds disgusting, and they seem like a nightmare for the neighbors (the husband cuts down the neighbors kids shade trees for his fire pit, the kid blows up the neighbor’s fence with a potato bomb?). Unfortunately, if they live in the Ft Lauderdale area, they probably live in the same county I do.

The ‘humor’ was so lame and the author and her family so unappealing I only read about a third of the book. This is what I get for buying a self-published/‘creatively published’ (Booktrope) book. I wish I could get my money back.

I expected a hilarous account of everyday happenings similar to Erma Bombeck or Lisa Scottaline. I was disappointed to say the least. Although some of the essays did make me laugh out loud they were too far and few between. I felt that I was being generous rating the book three stars and if they had halves, I would have preferred 2.5 stars. I also found it difficult to see two essays on death included which were serious and involved the author's mother and her sister. It did not seem appropriate at all to have these included in a "humorous" collection of essays.

If you are looking for something that will make your sides ache, don't get this one.

A delightful funny read. It makes you realise that everyone has the same struggles in life. From embarrassing kids to drunk adults doing silly drunk things. She had the same money worries and life problems but rather than chosing to look on the bleak side of things she chose to look on the brighter side of life

The worst failing humor writing can have is not to be funny. Unfortunately, I found Doyle's essays, and her family's antics, more boring than amusing- to the point that I- usually a book completist- read the first few, skimmed a bunch more, and deleted it.

It's trying to be classic "women's humor"- filled with tales about horrible children and ineffectual husbands- cliches, all. The thing is, though, that these tales need to be funny! When it all just seems dismal and overwhelming, it's more depressing than heartwarming.

I remember reading Erma Bombeck as a kid, and even though I was not anything like her target audience, she had a wry outlook and great turns of phrase that had me giggling. Similarly, Dave Barry does domestic humor very well indeed, though his writing tracked my experiences more.

This was a disappointment. Doyle seems to be of an age with me- maybe a bit younger- and I was hoping to find giggles in dealing with menopause in particular. Alas, no. Instead, her anecdotes reminded me of the kind of mystery "cozies" that I cannot read anymore- ostensibly funny, but with a competent women trying heroically to deal with the chaos all her friends and family inflicts upon her. Now, Bombeck did some of that, too- but she was FUNNY, and not entirely a doormat.

Not recommended.

Couldn’t do it. I only got to 19% on my Kobo when I caught myself skimming over huge chunks just to get through ... and I never skim. I really have no right to give any stars let alone only one star because I didn’t finish it ... but I’m gonna anyway and here’s why: her writing is fine, the book is fine, it’s humorous and endearing in its own way but there is no continuity and it reads like a bunch of entries in a blog with no attempt to connect any dots from one entry to the next. Most of what I read was about her family life experience, and I just couldn’t make myself care. I’m not a family-hater, I just couldn’t relate or get engaged in her stories for some reason. And there are too many good books in the world to carry on with one I’m already not enjoying at only 19% read. Next ...

Who Stole My Spandex? Life in the Hot Flash Lane is laugh out loud funny (and I have never used LOL in a sentence before right now), which short, sharp-witted antidotes that you can read when you’re waiting in line or don’t have much time. Along with the humorous essays, though, Marcia Kester Doyle shares personal serious topics. I’m excited to learn that Doyle is a blogger and I’ll be sure to check that out, as well as some of her other books.

Awful book. I don't see what the fuss was about. Expected an enjoyable laugh like Erma Bombeck. This was crude, crass and her "humor" was mean-spirited. Pass on this one unless you love endless fart jokes and poo talk.

I didn't finish this book. In fact, I barely read any of it. It looked like it would be hilarious, but I think I'm just the wrong demographic to enjoy it. If you're a menopausal, plus-size woman, it might be just your cup of tea.

A fun, simple read

A great book if you want something light and need to laugh. It’s basically a collection of short story memories of her life. Any woman 35+ should be able to relate to many of them and LOL.

Funny

Just too much bathroom humor. A little mean spirited for me. Otherwise a clever look at the minutiae of everyday life.

I liked the book and the humor, but I think I'm too "young" to really relate to the author.
Although sometimes it read more like a horror! Not looking forward to menopause...

It started off being amusing but about a third of the way in, I felt the author was stuck in a rut trying to keep it funny. I put it down at that point and decided not to finish it.
