After the debacle with Eris, Abby has settled into her new life. She’s living in tentative peace with Artie and Keto and beginning to deal with the new powers thrust upon her after her last battle. Everything appears to be fine until Ares shows up unexpectedly one morning and appeals to Abby for help.
Someone has stolen the Sword of God, a priceless relic allowing the wielder to control the world. But that’s not all. A monstrous, ancient being has awakened sending Olympus into panic mode and Abby scrambling to figure out who’s behind it all. Once again she gets caught up in politics and danger, but this time, the stakes are higher. Her friends are keeping deadly secrets and the most obvious villain may not be so evil after all. Will Abby figure the puzzle out in time, or will this be the time the power hungry Olympian gods win?
S.E. Babin has a passion for writing books with a paranormal twist. Whether it's romance or mystery, she loves taking the norm and turning it into the extraordinary. Her love of reading turned into a curious exploration to see whether or not she could write her own novel.
Beginning with random, terrible poetry and a slightly popular reimagining of Beowulf's Grendel in her high school English class, Sheryl spent way too much time in the library, killing any chance of her becoming a cheerleader or anything even remotely cool. More sarcasm, more ridiculousness, more Sheer Dumb Luck (thanks for that one, McGonagall), & more actually reasonable variations of Greek deities.
I'm sad about Marshall, but I'm proud of Abby for letting him go, & even more proud of Marshall for deciding to hold on to their memories. Hermes is the same, but Artie is more bloodthirsty. More myths & deities show up in this one; usually in a shower of broken House. I'm quite impressed at how well the explosions are set up. The wards *definitely* need upgrading, though!
This book leaves us on a cliffhanger that has me typing this review VERY fast before I dive into the next one!
A few more editorial mistakes in this one. Don't let any line editors off the hook for that. There are a few errors in there that mess up the meaning enough to warrant multiple re-reads of sections to gain understanding.
Abby is back and even better this time! Things are stirring up and not in a good way. Zeus leaves it to Abby once again to figure it out, while she struggles with her man issues.
This series must be read in order. The first book is "Out Of Practice Aphrodite". This is the second book. I can't wait to read "Out Of Options Aphrodite"!
After defeating Eris Aphrodite experiences a learning curve. She now has absorbed ALL of Eris' powers, so now she is super powerful instead of weak as a kitten. It is changing her dynamic with everyone and she is not sure she likes it... But what's a girl to do when the effects are permanent? Mostly she is afraid Zeus will see her as a threat instead of a tool to be used at his convenience. Then there is her mortal boyfriend Marshall... How much longer can she keep him within her world without consequence? The world of the Gods is no place for mere mortals after all! With Gaia stirring it's all about to hit the proverbial fan. Why is Gaia awake? Will she go on a rampage? What is Zeus hiding? Will all the Gods survive this latest debacle?
Set shortly after the madness with Eris, #2 in the series gives us Marshall and Abby...and all her godly friends, too, as well as on-lookers the Fates and Zeus himself, embroiled in a new mess. No rest for the wicked. The Sword of God is missing, and everyone is on edge, including Zeus, it seems. Abby is tasked with finding Dionysus and Typhon and hunting down whoever has the Sword of God.
Is Hermes keeping secrets, too, or is that just Artie and Ares and Keto and everyone else Abby knows? Who can she trust, even on Olympus? You'll get more out of it if you have a familiarity with mythology, but don't fret--Babin fills you in if need be. Funny, sarcastic, and as fast-paced as they come in this category.
A maddening cliffhanger ending, in case that affects anyone's interest in it. Had I known that, I might have waited till I had purchased #3 to start reading this one.
This was a five right up to the cliffhanger at the end. Loose ends are fine, even new stories beginning, but that kind of cliffhanger is just dirty pool! Also like the first book there are several uses of incorrect words--words that sound a bit alike but don't mean the same things at all. I've been seeing a trend here, not just with this author but it's like they all read incorrect usages in someone's book and started using them. One popular one is drudge for dredge; you don't drudge anything up. Things are dredged up, and if you work too hard you are a drudge. Please folks, stop trusting your friends' work. Get either a real editor or someone outside your circle to edit. You're beginning to show evidence of group think!
This sequel really fascinated me it grew from the previous book and though it has been a awhile since I had read the first book, i didn't feel disconnected from the world and the characters were fun and adorable and though the mystery was interesting, the cliffhanger was awful lol!!! I'm so glad I have the next two in the series lol also I enjoyed the humor as well as the pop culture references. One issue I had was the romance theres so many love interests i dont know who I want to win lol. Because of these points I have to give this book a 4-4.5 out of 5 stars. I love this series especially if you love Greek mythology and need something fun and fluffy lol.
There were times when Abby was just too stupid. I'm talking like the blonde in the movie Clueless. Some of the clues were obvious. Like when someone is supposed to be helping but keeps disappearing. I understand she didn't believe this person in the first book was bad. However, everyone kept telling her it was someone close to her. If you ask me Hestia got what she deserved. Actually if the Fates had allowed Artemis to kill her everyone would have been better off. Why didn't Ares try to hurt or kill Abby? Who is walking around disguised as Typhoon? I have a lot of questions.
Ridiculous, ridiculous, ridiculous. I'm not sure which aspect of this book is more insane: Athena and Hestia being bad? Hestia and Artemis fighting over some dude? Zeus having the hots for his granny? Typhoeus being hot and fuckable? Aphrodite as the heroine? Artemis' boyfriend? Artemis hating Hestia and Athena but being BFFs with Aphrodite? God, and here I was, thinking that the first book was nuts.
This one involved trying to discover who was responsible for what was happening. A framing for a crime, a plot to attack Zeus and much more. Along the way to discovering the plot, there are many other plots going on. Kidnapping, pregnancies, friendships tossed aside. It is a good read but ends in a cliffhanger. So I guess I al going to start on book 3 right now. This is a good read. Enjoy.
Absolutely Fabulous! Can Abby reveal the mysterious new arrival? Abby and Artie are great female characters. Strong, loveable and sooo human. Don't be put off that this is about the Gods as it's a terrific read. Highly recommended and I can't wait to read the next one. Loved the humour and sarcasm.
Abby has found herself trying to save Olympus, and has gotten in over her head. Again. With new and unexpected allies, and enemies, she may have bitten off more than she can chew. With the cliffhanger ending, I'm hopeful Abby can get herself and Artie out of trouble in the next book.
If you read book #1, you must read this one. You really need all the first one before this one. Everything and everyone becomes clear as to the characters and places that you're reading. I just finished it. Again, I couldn't put it down. On to the next one. Enjoy 😉.
The Goddess of love is called upon again to try and save the day, read how she fares in this second book, from rescuing ariadne to meeting Gaia and Typhoon.
Love this book, it can really use another one to keep you on your toes. Wish we had God's living now adays. Seems like a better life then our new system.
"Out of Sorts Aphrodite" is the second book in the "Goddess Chronicles Series". Abby is still recovering from her encounter with Eris while adjusting to her new role being on retainer for Zeus. She has a new boyfriend, and house to sweeten the deal. Artie and Keto are even living with her. However, when Athena shows up and drops a piece of information in Abby's lap, she takes it upon herself to investigate. Overall, I enjoyed reading this novel. The characters are entertaining, and the plot is interesting. If you enjoy Greek mythology in a modern setting, then you'll love this series.
