Cry Sanctuary was a decent paranormal read, nothing to great really stood out but nothing was bad either. Abby was turned against her will, she finds sanctuary in Red Rock Pass and there she is presented with the men who would serve as her guide during her initiation period. The initiation period is a very intimate period where you no only embrace the two halves of you but bond with your guide and after three months you can either walk away and find a mate or stay with your guide. Abby chooses Keith, he is one of the stronger shifters there, initially assigned for her safety, and while he is willing to help her any way he can, she doesn't want to just be am obligation. It was a quick easy read with shifter steam :)

You know, I'm shocked that it says this book is 242 pages, because I would have guessed it was half that.
I like the story, but it moves SO fast, with the characters connected and pretty much in love 15 min after meeting, that it feels like a short. I wish it could have been drawn out more.

Seems like a deliberate move to have the story based within the context of a war between werewolves and wizards, rather than the typical vampire foe. I like it! However, it would have been a lot more interesting to learn more about this war instead of having to read about it on the sideline (which wasn't much actually).
Abby and Keith have good chemistry and their union is fulfilling, if a little too hasty. The idea of an Initiate asking another to be their Guide is a sweet, if dated, notion. Kind of reminds me of American sweethearts asking each other out for graduation night, but I digress.
Since this is only the first book in a series by Rogers, I'm banking on a lot more detail in the books to come.

Why I read: I really enjoy Moira Roger’s Southern Arcana series and wanted to try more from these authors.

The door slammed shut.
Dylan Gennaro and Abby Adler are on the run from their violent alpha, Alan Matthews. Alan turned Abby against her will a month ago, and treats women very badly. Although Abby is more of an alpha wolf and Dylan is much more submissive, he knows he needs to get her out of this cruel pack. Near by is Red Rock Sanctuary, a pack led by Gavin and his mate Samantha. They take in runaways from these packs that have violent out of control alphas. They get word Dylan is on his way, but it starts to get late. Gavin sends one of his alpha wolves, Keith to investigate. Keith is an alpha in the pack and has spent years fighting in the wars against the wizards, so he is good in these situations. Keith discovers Abby and Dylan on the side of the road, fighting off a couple of Alan’s wolves sent to bring them back. After Keith shoots them all (Did I mention he is lethal?) he escorts them safely to Red Rock.
They are welcomed and given a safe place to stay. One of the first rules Gavin has is all new wolves need a Guide, someone to lead new wolves through the first couple of months. Not only teaching them the basics of being a shifter, but the bond usually goes much more intimate than that. At the end of the Guide period, the couple can choose to go their separate ways or sometimes feelings have developed and they stay together to explore their relationship.
As soon as Abby and Keith meet, their wolves immediately take notice of each other. Their human sides are also very attracted. Abby has to be the one to choose the Guide, and not forced into the decision. Keith with an overwhelming protectiveness needs Abby to choose him, but being the gentleman he lets her have time to adjust and look over her options. Abby knows he is the one, and when the sexual tension is about ready to burst, she agrees and the first lesson he teaches her is in the bedroom. But the fun ends when Abby gets a picture of her sister, who has been kidnapped by Alan. With Keith’s help, they race to save her.
Cry Sanctuary is full of alpha male goodness. The moment Keith, or I should say his wolf sees Abby, that is it for him. He goes into growly, overprotective mode. He stalks around, on edge, being a perfect gentlemen towards Abby, but letting everyone know she is off limits. Years ago, he lost a lover, and the raw emotions from that relationship coupled with his alpha status, make for a very intense male. He sees being her Guide as an honor, and the thought of any other male near her makes him almost lose control.
Abby also exudes alpha status, and although she is terrified and confused by her new life, she is a tough cookie. She accepts Keith from the beginning. I like that they never refuse or deny their attraction. When they come together, two powerful wolves in the bedroom, it’s a smexy overload. Abby feels guilty for having these strong feelings for Keith and for wanting him sexually at the same time as having him for her Guide. It takes prodding from both Keith and some friends to convince her Keith wants the same thing.
We also meet the other wolves of Red Rock. Leaders Gavin and Samantha run a tight ship but are very warm. Joe, Keith’s friend stays his friend after he realizes Abby is off limits and provides some very sarcastic comments. Abby’s friend Dylan, who is more submissive gets a book in this series and I can’t wait to see what they do with his character. I sometimes thought all the residents of Red Rock, or at least the ones we meet are a little too perfect. Everyone is so nice and welcoming but you can argue Gavin is a strict alpha and doesn’t let anyone get out of line. This book is also on the shorter side so we don’t get a lot of background into the war with the wizards but there are several more books to the series and I’m looking forward to reading more about this group. Although there is a satisfying ending, there is much left to explore.

Overall the book was interesting and flowed well. Its new slant on the werewolf lore was enjoyable. Vampires don't exist, but Wizards do. A part of that magic mixed in with the werewolves, making some of them very strong. It was a neat concept of the hierarchy among the wolves, and the differences between the "alphas" and the "submissives". I wanted to learn more about it and how they handled changing to their primitive selves.
Unfortunately, the author didn't explore that aspect. She teases us with the idea of what it would be like for the heroine, Abby, to lose control...but she never does. The reader is teased with what could happen if a submissive male initiated an alpha female...but we never find out. I expected the end to be a battle between the sanctuary and the feuding pack...but it didn't happen. There were far too many disappointments and not enough resolution.
Since this was an erotic novel, there should have been more than two sex scenes. The scenes flowed nicely though, and there was at least some heat between Abby and Keith. I liked both characters, so I was happy they came together. The added werewolf chemistry had so much promise and should have been explored a bit more. Besides that disappointment, the main distraction I found while reading the sexual scenes was the authors insistence on only using one word for the hero's...excitement. I ended up looking for the overused word, which distracted me from the scene, making it nearly impossible to get lost in the action. Since there are so many good words to use, there is no reason to use the same one every time.
Another problem was the ending. We were teased with the idea of reading about the characters finally turning into werewolves at the next full moon, since it never happened during the story. It was actually 2/3's of the way through before a wolf even made an appearance, but the book ended before Abby or Keith changed. Expecting another chapter on that, I could only stare in open-mouthed surprise to discover it had ended. The book was too much of a tease. How can someone write about werewolves but not show a werewolf? The reader doesn't even know if the villain of the story lived or died. Of course, this is the first of a series, so maybe those questions will be answered in the next books. Overall this story had the potential to be so much more and should have stood alone.

After I read the prequel of the Red Rock Pass series, I thought that it was time to read “Cry Sanctuary” the first story in the series by Moira Rogers. I have to admit that it was a very interesting read. Of course, is a story with werewolves, but not like others of this genre. My impression is that it’s darker and while I was reading it I had a feeling that things in this world-building will get worse in time.
The story is about Abigail and Keith. Abigail is a young woman who was a victim of a corrupt alpha werewolf and she became werewolf unwillingly. With help, she managed to go to Red Rock, a sanctuary for werewolves. There she’s trying to learn about her new self more and to find some peace. But there is also Keith, a born werewolf and a fighter. Keith wants her from the beginning but he finds enough reasons not to be with her. But at the end it’s impossible. And then the corrupt alpha kidnaps Abigail’s sister and Keith realizes that he will do anything to help Abigail.
Abigail is a nice woman. She didn’t choose this life but she’s doing her best to learn more. She wants to feel safe again and she’s afraid of the changes but that doesn’t stop her. I liked her determination to save her sister and that she admits her faults.
Keith is the typical alpha-werewolf-lonely-tormented-hero and I loved him! He’s very good and helpful although sometimes he was kind of distant. Keith is the kind of guy that he prefers to act than speak and that makes him more trustworthy.
The plot and the writing style are very good and the characters very interesting and I had great time reading the story. So, if you like paranormal romance and werewolves, you should read this!

I was home sick today and felt like reading something short and fluffy. This was listed in an email for being available for free, so I gave it a try. Honestly, it was surprisingly good. Had it just been longer, it would have been able to better develop some characters, mainly the heroine. Otherwise I would have given it four stars. So I'll keep an eye out for other books by this author if they are longer in length.

I picked this series up at the library, thinking it would be fluff to read on lunchbreak. They’re so good though! Well written, great stories, real characters ( except for the werewolf part 🙄). I’m on a quest now to find everything by this writing duo

I got ahold of Cry Sanctuary as a First Read. I had no clue what I was in for. I’ve never read anything in this series or these authors before.
The first couple pages of the book totally hooked me. I immediately wanted to know what was going on. I thought the world was great. I liked the idea of Guides, the author’s attention to world building in terms of the town and the larger world outside the town, the new take on an old mythology (idea of wizards and the possible connection with werewolves), and the werewolf politics. I really enjoyed the setup of the world and the characters and how their initial interaction took place. What a great way to introduce the reader to the world and the characters! I immediately cared what happened.
Unfortunately, some of that steam evaporated when it came to the relationship between Keith and Abby. I found their relationship hurried, sort of shallow and a little herky-jerky, regardless of the hot and heavy take-me-now-before-I-rocket-into-orbit sex. There were a couple places where the action seemed to make a u-turn on itself and I found myself going "Huh?". I think this led to some of the awkwardness between them as a couple. I wanted to see more story involving them as a couple and what brought them together. Whether that was more attempts by the Baddies to get Abby back, more interaction with other residents of the town, or Abby even her losing control (which was hinted at but never happened and would have been interesting to explore (there were plenty of emotionally charged scenes where she could have lost it). I kept waiting for there to be more WHUMPH and FWOOOOSH and WHEEEE! between them other than just heavy panting.
One of the questions I had was, Why werewolves? We don’t see them turn into werewolves, we don’t see werewolves rampaging across the countryside, we don’t hear werewolves howling at the moonlight. The only real show of werewolves we get is the kind of peculiar split-personality reference characters make to their wolves and having to learn to deal with them as if they’re different people entirely (again, this would have been an interesting thing to explore more deeply since Abby is new to this and now has to deal with this Other set of primal instincts and needs).
For being a new werewolf that was made when she was attacked, who came from an abusive environment, and has already shifted once (I presume that was traumatic?) she was incredibly well-adjusted.
Clearly, I’ve come to the party late. There are a bunch of other books in this series (I have #2 to read and review as well.) Maybe there’s werewolves frolicking and rampaging around in the other books, but I just felt like if it’s a story about werewolves I wanted to see some fur flying somewhere. Hopefully there will be some werewolves in the next one! I plan on reading it and finding out. How can I stop reading with gem lines like “If you blow up my woman, I’ll end you.” Hahah.

I loved that this book was about Keith (the little boy we saw in Becoming). He was so adorable looking after Sam and helping his parents ang Gavin. I couldn't wait to see what kind of man he grew into.
He is so strong and caring, doing everything he can to help the people he cares about. He was made Enforcer of the pack by Gavin and he does his job very well.
Abby was a fantastic heroine. She was violently turned into a werewolf only one month ago, to be the unwilling female Alpha of Mathews pack. When she and friend Dylan escape from the pack they go to Red Rock for sanctuary. Keith soon realises just how strong Abby's wolf is and that her Guide (the person who will help her adjust to her new life) will need to be atleast an equal match to her power and that fact dramatically reduces her options. But she more than happily accepts Keith as her Guide. It was a beautiful relationship to watch as Keith helped her come to terms with the changes in her life. He doesn't hold her back or sugarcoat the truth, he gives it to her straight and provides her with all the tools she will need to be the best Alpha she can be, and holy crap does he do a good job. Abby seems near on indestructable once Keith is finished with her and she's as fierce as can be! I loved her.
This book has a great streak of humour and the world building by Moira Rogers is woderfully complex.
The future of this series is looking very bright. I can't wait.

I liked this one, I just thought there could have been ... more. More story. more resolution to the story. Sure, they tied up one part of the story line but they didn't give us the satisfaction of seeing Abby make peace with her wolf. Seriously, I got to the end and I kept looking for more. However, it was an intriguing premise and the writing was decent and I've already been checking out the others in the series.
The plot? Strong Beta wolf helps strong female Beta after she escapes from the sadistic Alpha who forcibly turned her. Abby finds a measure of peace in Red Rock Pass, a sanctuary for werewolves, but her peace is quickly shattered when the Alpha she escaped from takes her sister hostage in a bid to get her back. Keith is drawn to Abby from the start and he can't bear the thought of her sacrificing herself for her sister. So, he helps her. After they have blistering sex. I guess the thing that bothers me is that I can see the bones of good werewolf mythology here, but it felt like it didn't get explored. Heck, for a book about werewolves, there was very little wolfish goings on. Like I said, though, I'm still intrigued enough to pick up the next books in the series.

Abby finds a measure of peace in Red Rock Pass, a sanctuary for werewolves, but her peace is quickly shattered when the Alpha she escaped from takes her sister hostage in a bid to get her back. Keith is drawn to Abby from the start and he can't bear the thought of her sacrificing herself for her sister. So, he helps her. After they have blistering sex. I guess the thing that bothers me is that I can see the bones of good werewolf mythology here, but it felt like it didn't get explored. Heck, for a book about werewolves, there was very little wolfish goings on. Like I said, though, I'm still intrigued enough to pick up the next books in the series.

This is a fairly fast paced paranormal romance novella that starts with action in the first chapter and it maintains the pace all the way through. I liked that the protagonist didn't spend a lot of time beating any dead horses, but the romance itself happened so quickly it was almost unbelievable. Almost. Given that it was a novella so there wasn't a lot of room to develop things I'd say it was very well done. I felt like I knew the characters well enough to sympathize with them fairly quickly into the story and it pretty much had all the elements we read PNR for - sexy times, romance, action, sexy times, villains, alpha males, sexy times, both strong and not so strong females, shifters...did I mention sexy times?
Right, it's in there and it's smokin' hot, but not an overwhelming amount of sex to the detriment of the story.
I think it serves as an interesting and promising start to a series in a world with shifters and wizards, an existing war in a "far off" place (Europe), and a brewing war "home" in America. There were no cliff hangers, but it ends with a taste for more lingering.
Strong 3.5 stars, or 7 of 10.

I presume you know what the book is about. I'm letting you know what I liked or disliked about it.
I liked the story line, enjoyed the characters, and the adventure.
The characters were well developed. Abby and Keith have great chemistry as do each of the pairs of mates. I especially enjoyed reading about Abby's friend Dylan. I think he is one of those characters you come across in a story that you would like to know more about. We get some info but again, there is a hint of something more. hmmmm.
There were two lines close to the end of the book by Sam during a ceremony, "There's some very stirring poetry about the Sun's journey through the sky", "about how it rises with no knowledge of the day and sets full with new experience". I absolutely loved these words. These two sentences are beautiful and held so much promise of something more. I wish Ms. Rogers would have avoided making an impression of vague ambiguity. The opportunity to write some truly remarkable prose was missed.
I'm going to read Sanctuary Lost.

A well written and very highly developed Paranormal world of werewolves, Cry Sanctuary sucks you in immediately as the action begins from the onset and keeps going to the end. The book follows the story of Abigail, whom is rescued by a friend from a sadistic Alpha and brought to Red Rock, Montana. There Abigail meets Keith who is a bit troubled by his past, but can't deny the urge to "protect" Abigail. The crazy, sadistic Alpha that made Abigail won't let go, though and when he kidnaps Abigail's sister to lure her from Red Rock --- Keith and Abigail must break every rule to save her.
This was a great Kindle Free Find and I enjoyed the read, the action, the sexy goodness and the author's writing. I hadn't read Moira Rogers before so this was a wonderful introduction. I can't wait to read more of her writing.
RECOMMENDATIONS: Paranormal Romance fans should enjoy. There are some intense sexual encounters, so mature readers only.

I really enjoyed this but it could have done with being a little longer with some more worldbuilding in it for me. Some of the backstories were sparse. Whether we will get more of that in the next installment is to be seen.
Other than that a great story. Moira Rogers writes werewolves with the right mix of magic and myth. Great stuff.

Hmmm, this one just didn't do it for my like her other series. I was still decent and I read the whole thing. However I didn't really get a connection with the characters. Couldn't get a grasp of Keith. Anyway, I will try the next one and hope that it was just the whole first book of the series thing.

Enjoyable,but I felt like I missed some of the backstory. Enjoyed both main characters and the story. The relationship moved a little fast, but I'm willing to suspend disbelief b/c it's a paranormal.

I'm going to admit at first I had a bit of trouble seeing Keith as the hero in this story. Only because I read the prequel and still kind of envision him as a 7 year old boy. However I got over that fairly quickly. Keith has indeed proved to be the kind of hero every girl dreams of.

The world building is a bit - large hand wave - I mean, it seems like there should be barely any humans left to pass in the ‘normal’ world. But it kind of works.
Keeping the secret when others flaunt it so aggressively must be basically impossible. *shrugs*
Regardless, it allows Keith and the other enforcer Joe to bring ALL the weapons to get the girls to safety. And a hint of Joe with Brynn.

The large man who stopped a few paces away was something else entirely . Putting aside the energy that singed the air around him , he was physically imposing . His tight T - shirt emphasized his wide shoulders and strong muscles , and the dark leather shoulder rig that cut across the white fabric had holsters for two guns . One was empty , the weapon held easily at his side as he surveyed the two dead attackers and one survivor . Everything about him was dark — his hair , eyes , even the fierce expression he wore .

"Cry Sanctuary" is the first book in the Red Rock Pass series and sets up a world where packs in the United States are tottering on the brink of civil war. With some Alphas abusing their power, the Red Rock pack serves as sanctuary for those needing assistance.
Abby was bitten and forced to become a werewolf against her will. The abusive Alpha of the Helena pack, Alan Matthews, wants her for his own special brand of abuse with with the side of her friend, Dylan, she manages to escape to the sanctuary of Red Rock Pass.
Keith Winston has been fighting in Europe in a war between werewolves and wizards. He is tired and bone weary but must go home to his pack in Red Rock, Montana. While he is willing to help out his Alpha in any way he was not expecting the immediate attraction and overprotective reaction he feels for Abby. However, he knows that a newly turned were is highly volatile and needy; but, he wants Abby to !make the decision to be with him. Just as they find a means to get together, Abby's sister is kidnapped by Alan and the only way he will release her is it Abby willing comes back to him.
Like so many paranormal romances, this read is short and rushes the romance and story line. What makes this one a little more interesting is Ms. Rogers is a master at writing exciting action scenes. They were quite good and kept me on the edge of my seat. I only wished 50 more pages were included that would introduced us to Alan Matthews and more time setting up sexual tension between Abby and Keith. Oh well, you can't have everything.

I liked it but didn't love it. It felt as if I missed the pre-quel, as there was a lot of implied knowledge in the set up. In this world, shifters are out - the good packs follow the old ways, the bad packs don't. What I liked was the intensity of the characters, the fast pace, some BDSM overtones - e.g. submissive male helped the h escape. What I didn't like quite so much was the Alpha's character, strong but he seemed too tired or jaded to protect the pack if there is a war. I liked both the H and h, both were strong characters with some angst. The H is a warrior, but he was also her Guide and he never told her anything! She had to keep asking questions, too often found out after an event, because he never told her anything. So H was a poor guide, too busy getting off with her instead. Although that part was great - ha ha!

When Abby is turned against her will into a Werewolf and forced into a harem of a pack that her friend is forced to be a part of she doesn't think it can get any worse until they break out and head for Red Rock Sanctuary. Once they get there they are met by Keith, the pack enforcer, the attraction is instantaneous. But can she really choose him to be her guide? Or even stay with the new pack now that the previous pack master, has captured her sister?
This is a new spin on the normal shifter romance and it played out very well. I really enjoyed every aspect of this book and hope to be able to add book 2 to my TBR list. I am torn between wanting Brynn to end up with Dylan and wanting her to end up with Joe and sow his wild oats in a manner of speaking since he is such a play boy. None the less this is a really good book if you like a power struggle wolf shifter romance.

There's nothing wrong with this one, really, but it was so tedious to get through. It should not have taken me a week to read. I honestly spent the whole book just as confused as Abby was about everything happening. I would've given it 2 stars, but I just couldn't deal when

I really loved this story. Although featuring werewolves, the characters remained in their human form throughout. This provides somewhat of an anticipation of what's to come in the series. With small amounts of sexual content, generally I would term this book as being a suspense. There's drama enough to have kept my attention squarely on the storyline, eager to find out where it was leading to. Adult content is mild to warm, with a few explicit words thrown in here and there, but that's not the story focus. Overall, it was a great read!

The Moira Rogers team is fantastic! I find myself continually drawn into their worlds and caring about their characters to such an extent that I actually cry and feel for them. And the romance is steamy hot! If you love sexy, engaging stories with strong heros and equally strong heroines plus a HEA, I highly recommend any of their books! (Though I am partial to the Bloodhounds series... C'mon, yall - give me some more books, please!)

Really exciting! Starts right off with a young couple trying to reach sanctuary. They send an Enforcer out to help the young couple, Dylan and Abby make it. There is a war going on in Europe between the Werewolves and the Wizard and the MC Keith has been fighting that war for 5 years and has returned home for peace and quiet. He is sent to help Abby and Dylan and he is pulled by his wolf to protect Abby. Looking forward reading more in the series.
