The conclusion to the Greek gods storyline was mostly (to me) pretty uninteresting, but there were a few stand out moments. And all of those moments included either Diana:

description

Or Aquaman!
Fuck yeah, he's riding sharks!

description

For those of you who still dislike my favorite DC character, here's a shot of Arthur getting kicked in the nads by Poseidon.
You're welcome, assholes.

description

As for the rest of it?
I wouldn't have believed it if someone had told me, prior to reading this, that the saving grace of this volume would be Plastic Man.
But it was!
Who would have ever thought he was such a badass?!
description
That's one of the things that I've always liked about this title - it manages to make you look at old, familiar, maybe even silly characters in a new light. And even if this particular volume wasn't quite up to par with the stuff that came before, it still had that going for it.

description

The gist of the story is that Plastic Man, a deeply flawed superhero & absentee father, becomes a huge threat to the Regime after they arrest his son on terrorist charges for blowing up a statue of Superman. When Plastic Man finds out his son (also a shapeshifter) has been tossed into the Trench with both actual supercriminals and anyone else who has taken a stand against the Injustice League, he makes a beeline for their headquarters to ask for the Superfriends Discount on his sentence. When Supes (against the advice of the rest of the League) refuses to cut a deal with Plas, he decides to take matters into his own hands.
description
You know what else took me by surprise?
That ending.
Just when I thought I knew how it was all going to end, Buccellato pulled the rug out from under me in a very pleasant way. Definitely worth reading!

"We've been invaded by gods, assaulted by magic, and nearly lost everything we fight for . . . " -- Wonder Woman, to Superman

It's been over two years since I last read the previous installment in the Injustice miniseries - my library system did not carry the final four books - but thank goodness for the local surplus store and their new truckload of discount-priced graphic novels! With the passing of time I'm hazy on some of the details in the overall storyline, but this volume boasts some great scenes (dueling tidal waves -- "Who dares defy the god of the seas?" demands Poseidon the irked Olympian, with the outrageously courageous response "Gods be damned. You've incurred the wrath of Atlantis!" from Aquaman, with Mera by his side) and - the biggest surprise - the two MVPs are arguably Harley Quinn, who is used effectively (instead of trying to awkwardly style her as a leading lady-type) in a wonderfully quippy comedic supporting turn, and the unsung Plastic Man, who headlines in the solid finale chapter.

The Greek pantheon was probably a poor choice of theme. The DC versions simply aren't very interesting, especially since Buccellato seems to only remember that a handful of them exist. He didn't even touch on all twelve of the Olympians, much less the plethora of more minor gods and demigods that Zeus should have been able to use. But I guess Apollo, Artemis, Nike, Eris, and Phobos are all on vacation or something. I'm not saying they all needed speaking parts or even panel time, just... maybe mention they exist? Of course, DC's version of the Greek pantheon can't sustain an entire year of Injustice, so the New Gods are brought in to actually make a story. That's when things finally get interesting. On the bright side, it looks like the next year will be villains, and the issue that sets that up is really good, probably the best issue of the year. This year was just a misstep in theme. I think the book would have been much better served if it had been entirely New Gods

Man if it wasn't for the last issue this would have been some old bulllllshit. What happened to one of my favorite series ever?

So this is the second half of the "Gods" vs "Superman" arc and it's bad...like real dull, lifeless, badly created. This is a shell of what this series used to be. All the smart talk between characters, all the stakes, all the motivation feels stripped down. People doing stupid shit because...it's stupid. It makes no sense. What a waste.

On the flipside we get a very very good single issue at the end. I went back to check the writer and who is it? My dude Tom Taylor. He came back to fix this mess of a series for just one issue. It's about Plastic Man rescuing his son from prison. In this short 26 page issue we get the heart of the series once more, the stakes are high, you care about EVERYONE. In this single moment it's great again. If only it stayed that way. I fear Year 5 now.

Man am I bummed...BUMMED!

This volume wasn't as good as the previous ones. The Greek gods storyline fizzled out. Harley Quinn is a legit bad ass! I didn't know plastic man was a criminal back in the day.

The conclusion to the Year of the Gods story. We find out who is really behind the war with the Greek Gods. The art is just OK even though the artists on this book are typically reliable. There's some definite anatomy issues within. Also contains an annual with leads into year five.

Hercules' death determines Zeus to step in and remove Shazam's powers. His presence forces Superman to send the Justice League members to their respective homes. Zeus now intends to position himself at the center of every religion. Both Superman and Batman whose teams are weakened after the previous fighting seek allies among the gods to defuse this war. They need the gods to stand down or they own conflict will never be resolved.

This was really good!

The Greek gods make their move against Superman and we see Zeus declaring his stance and well Superman goes to fight Darkseid and all as he is revealed to be the main villain behind the scenes and all and then the stuff with Billy and Harley is there, we find out Ares nature and all and then its back to JL Regime fighting the Gods and enter Highfather and so much drama and what not and the death and restoration of gods and some other twists like what a story, it gets so much better in the middle and then ends with a banger or atleast as much they could do!

The best story is the one where Plastic man goes to rescue his son Luke and maybe those imprisoned like GLC and more that will lead to Year 5 and it was the best story easily, granted this one was by Taylor so it was bound to be that and I love the way it happens and there is such great moments between Eel and Luke, it was great! Can't wait to read Year 5 next!

Same criticism as volume one of Year Four. The series feels like it's stretching too far in effort to encompass as many characters as possible. I miss the more focused scope of the series.

So I watched Batman v Superman last night and much to my supprise it would seem that they are setting themselves up to do the Injustice storyline. That's both awesome and heart breaking. Injustice would make a kick ass film, sadly I think the film universe needs to have a fair few more characters established before it could really do it just justice. Of course, the total murder of Batmans's character in the films makes it a moot point. The batman in the films would probably be ok with what goes down in Injustice. Pah.

These year long story arcs are fantastic chapter in this alternate history of the DC heroes. If you want to see what "could have" happened with your favorite heroes if things had been slightly different then here is your read for the year. Well above average art and an incredible story line make this an addictive read. Very recommended

****** I received this book from Goodreads' FirstReads Giveaway ******

This book contains Injustice: Gods Among Us: Year 4 issues #8-12 and Year 4 Annual #1. This wraps up the Year of the Gods storyline. The first half of this year was the lowest point in the entire series so far. Because of that, I wasn't expecting a lot from this book. The ending of Year 4 turned out to be much better than the beginning. I've never been much of a fan of Wonder Woman or any of the Greek gods as they appear in DC comics. In fact, those are probably my least favorite faction of characters that DC has. Them being the prominent force in the action this year just really paled in comparison after Year 2's Lanterns and Year 3's Magic users. There were a few surprise appearances that I wasn't expecting in this book. Those appearances and the interactions between Harley and Shazam are what made this volume better. Harley has continuously stolen the show for the last several books and that doesn't change at all with this one.

Brian Buccellato who became the main writer half way through Year 3 continues to be the writer for everything in this book except the Annual #1 which is written by Tom Taylor, the guy that wrote the series from the beginning until Buccellato took over. Taylor is just a much better writer in my opinion. The Annual was the best part of this entire book and even the best part of the whole year. I really wish he had stayed as the writer on this series from beginning to end. Buccellato isn't nearly the writer taylor is and if it weren't for how well he writes Harley, this series wouldn't really be worth finishing. The writing receives 4 stars.

Since this series originally was published online first, on a weekly basis I believe, there is a revolving door of artists working on the series. I'm not going to go into the art of each and every one of those, but I will say that Tom Derenick and Mike S. Miller continue to produce the best segments. The have by far the best work in the series. The art gets 4 stars also.

I never started reading this series until I won this book. I was so disenchanted with the series after the last book that it took me months before picking this one up to finally read it. I'm glad I got to it though. I thought Brian Buccellato had completely killed this series, but this book was good enough to make me want to read the final 2 volumes and see this thing through to the end. If you're checking out reviews for this book, you've probably started on the series already. Stick with it. It does get better.

Hmm. Well, at some point this series became severely lackluster. It lost the political commentary, but it's still exploring parts of the DC Universe and seeing how they interact with the conflict between two characters who don't even vaguely resemble themselves anymore... Superman and Batman.

Darkseid makes a brief and disappointing appearance when the story goes to Apocolips for all of five seconds, meanwhile Batman visits New Genesis and hangs with Highfather and Orion for a quick minute that I suppose was thrown in there just to give us a taste of another time and another author... Regardless, the New Gods resolve the conflict with the "Old Gods" in what I'm going to coin as Maximum Deus Ex Machina (TM currently being looked into).

In the next arc, the lovable rogue Plastic Man stages a jailbreak, saves the day, and saves the TBP from being overwhelmingly bad.

Volume 1 of Year 4 lost me a little for the first time since i started this series due to too much attention being given to the Gods of Olympus. Volume 2 jumps right back to an "it's Amazing," review from me and is one of the best volumes in the series because it returns the story to core (and lesser-known) DC heroes and villains to the forefront! The issue featuring cocky yet pissed Plastic-man arriving on the scene to fight Superman for the freedom of his imprisoned son is one of the best I have read from this run.

well, it only took me like a year to finish this. literally.

this series seriously should’ve been wrapped up way before this volume, and unfortunately i still have 3 volumes to read on year 5. ugh.

this wasn’t terrible, but it had a lot of pointless crap thrown in (e.g. the Greek gods and the New Gods, etc.) But the issue with Plastic Man saving his son (and a bunch of other prisoners) was greatness! well, maybe i’ll have all this wrapped up by 2020 so i can begin Injustice II.

The greek gods arc completely wraps up. And then we get an issue from Taylor that is leading us into Year 5. Solid but I'm little worried it will never get to year one and two levels again.

'Injustice: Gods Among Us: Year Four, Vol. 2' by Brian Buccellato concludes the Year of the Gods story-line. Superheroes against Greek gods? I'm in.

This series is a prequel to the video game. I've read and earlier volume, but not anything too recent, but I was able to pick up what was happening. In the world of the game, Superman has become a tyrant and Batman is out to stop him. The game is also a fighting video game, so there are lots of characters squaring off against each other.

Everyone is cranky with Superman. Zeus is also on Earth now and he's not happy either. Lex Luthor, Batman, and Wonder Woman are trying to stop Zeus, so they enlist his brother Poseidon. That turns out badly and Wonder Woman's home of Themyscira is endangered.

In a backup story, Plastic Man shows up to break in to a high security prison. I liked this story quite a bit, but I've always liked Plastic Man.

There aren't a lot of extras included. The story is ok, but since it's a tie in to a fighting game, it seems like characters in this series sometimes don't seem to act true to their nature. This series seems to be more for fans of the game than fans of these characters.

I received a review copy of this graphic novel from DC Entertainment and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this graphic novel.

I love this comic so much! The illustrations, the action, the characters, even the bad guys were awesome!! Everything was perfect!! I am so very conflicted with Superman transformation, but I kinda understand why he did it.
The story continues right when Year Four Vol 1 ended, the gods were taking control of everything and everyone, and they are sure they have taken care of the false god, superman. But there are evil behind evil. The big enemies of the justice league (and the gods if I may add) have joined forces and they've played with everyone, but the good ones had one ally that helped them taken care of everything.
But.... the real problem continues: Batman vs. Superman, and I hope to see how it goes in the next years of this comic.
All in all, great comic, great illustrations, great story, great everything.
PS I love Superman and Wonder Woman friendship #Goals

A bunch of characters appear and disappear without any explanation. For some random reason they start conflicts and suddenly they stop in their endeavors because without any credible explanation, even if 5 minutes before they were willing to fight to the death because of the original motivations.

Sadly the original premise, which was great, has been degenerating into a show of characters that does not make any sense. My only hope is that year 5 will give a nice wrap up.

Least favorite year so far. By now we all know superman is the bad guy, he's gone way too far, Batman is defeated so it's just a game of who can find the most powerful god's cell phone number and call him to help. Basically; I mean there's some moments with the stock DC characters, but with so many gods and aliens and new gods popping in and out of the story, I don't really find myself caring about any of them.

Here's to year 5 being good again!

The Plastic Man story at the end saved this one for me. This was definitely more focused than the last volume but still not as good as a could have been. The Harley scenes as always steal the show for me.

*3 and a half stars*

Overall the injustice storyline has gone downhill. But I'm still interested and enjoy seeing the various Villains and heroes from all across the DC Universe. While this is a far cry from the first year in injustice, I still liked it. The story has taken a lot of twists and turns and this volume has a couple as well.

I still have no idea why the idiots with Superman are so un-self aware. Like why? And the gods are irrelevant. I can't think of a single thing they changed by coming by, except oh hey, gods get broken by Superman too. (You'd think that would give Flash and the other idiots a clue, but no). Harley, on the other hand, still rocks.
