The art is still adorable, but I just can't seem to give any fucks about the plot.
Everything is pretty generic, the Bad Guys are all by-the-number, and the resolutions are a bit too easy.

description

I will give this one a pat on the head for trying to bring diversity to the cast, because even if it seemed at times somewhat gimmicky, at least it's trying.

Ok. Yeah.
I just don't have much to say, I guess.
If you've been enjoying this one, then I think you'll like this volume. And if you (like me) are less than impressed with this version of Batgirl, then at least it's over.
I think?

I received this book from Edelweiss and DC Comics in exchange for an honest review.

1 star, because I can't go any lower.

I really don't like the overly-simplistic route in both story and artwork this series has taken. It's terrible. I don't know if DC is doing this to try to gain some young female readers, but if you ask me, it's pandering and degrading.

Bring back the smart Batgirl/Barbara Gordon and not some ditzy girl who's more concerned about missing a date with some "hot college guy" and the latest social networking trend.

Mindfields is on par with the two prior installments, but the main story goes on a just little too long. Villain-of-the-week 'The Fugue' - a guy who can hack into someone's brain and plant false memories - was actually a good antagonist (for all the trouble he initially causes), but the colorful story could've been tightened up a bit. Much better was Batgirl assembling various trusted gal pals (check out that 'selfie'!) to individually face off with, Mortal Kombat-style, Fugue's lawbreaker allies. Though brief, the artwork for those sections - 'Black Canary vs. Velvet Tiger!,' 'Bluebird vs. Killer Moth!,' etc. - was funny and spot-on. Barbara 'Babs' Gordon's Batgirl is a great heroine - my favorite now in DC, along with Black Canary - but it was probably for the best that the series called it a day with this volume.

A little better than the first 2 volumes but not by much. The whole thing with the Fugue was just stupid and made no sense. There are sooo many characters in this book and because we haven't spent much time with any of them, I don't care about any of them at all. It's like someone created a cutesy indie comic, tried to cross it with a video game and then inserted Batgirl into it.

Day 2 of the 7 consecutive days of comic book reviews on the WondrousBooks blog.

This is the first and, so far, only series that I have followed through, and at the beginning, I was extremely excited. (Review of Volume 1) Then Volume 2 was so-so. And then... this happened.

I am really disappointed with Mindfields. I rated it higher than I actually felt like, because I am aware that it is not such a bad volume, it is only bad in comparison with the previous ones, especially the first volume, and therefore, I am more let down than I would have been if I had started with this, or something of the sort.

What I did not like about Volume 3 was that ultimately, it felt like the company has moved on from this version of the story and they are just in a rush to tie all the loose ends. The characters' personalities were not compelling at all, the villains were totally whatever. The last issue was a HOT MESS. It was just a random pile of crap they wanted to add but could not tie to one another. I felt like I have missed pages - so big was the gap from one story to another.

The art was nice, I will agree to that. But even in that aspect, there was a sense of randomness in the entire thing.

Why, oh why, did you do this to my Batgirl?

you know, it wouldn't have hurt this run to be a little bit less confusing. but the villains character designs are amazing and I just really really love Babs (Gordon and Tarr, honestly).

**I received a free eARC from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review**

I really like this Batgirl, she's very fun and knows how to kick butt. In this volume, we also get to see some of her friends, like Spoiler, Bluebird and Black Canary, who are now part of her team. I definitely enjoyed seeing all these girls working together, but there were some things that bothered me as well.

There are three stories in this, and they all had a flaw. The first one was very confusing, there were times I didn't know what was going on. Maybe it was because someone was messing with Batgirl's mind and tricking her, but I'm not really sure, since I couldn't really follow everything that was going on.

The second story felt kind of rushed, the girls were fighting the criminals and they were done before I even realized... Oh and then Batgirl talks about leaving and "finding herself" or something... I didn't really get that. Finally, the third story (a short one) was pretty much dialogue free, and I felt a bit lost as well.

I did enjoy reading this because of the girls though, they made it more entertaining and I liked that Olive and Maps from Gotham Academy also made an appearance. I hope things get better in the next volume, since I really like this Batgirl, like I mentioned.

While I haven't been reading graphic novels long, I've definitely found some that I absolutely love, and BATGIRL is one of them!! There's just so much to love about it!

The artwork is phenomenal, and the stories are intriguing and keep me glued to the page! Since I haven't been reading comics long, I'm fairly new to the DC fandom, but I've loved being introduced to various characters through Babs! I love Babs! I can tell that even as I read more graphic novels and get to know more and more characters, Barbara Gordon is going to be one of those characters that I will love forever, and the version of her in this incarnation of Batgirl is absolutely wonderful! :D

Along with Babs, I really love her friends--Dinah and Freddie are especially fantastic, but I have also loved seeing other characters make appearances, like Spoiler and Luke Fox, and I definitely look forward to seeing more of them all together in future issues/volumes!!

If you're looking for an interesting, and exciting story with an absolutely kickass heroine, then Batgirl is definitely something you NEED to read! :D

Very good comic book. Glad to see that Barbara is getting outside of Gotham. Nice to see Black Canary, Bluebird, Spoiler, Frankie, and others help Barbara out. Also nice to see the villains too. It's good that Barbara's mind was able to be fixed. Hope she and Luke Fox will be able to have more fun adventures together.

Can't wait to read more Batgirl comics!!!! Also can't wait to read Batgirl: Beyond Burnside!!!!!

Most of the book was really really good. It was going to be my favorite out of the three. Then the last 25% or so just came out of left field and left me feeling really confused. Oh well. the art was pretty cool. And there was this one part in the middle that was pretty dark and I love dark shit. So. Overall good book. Just weird ending.

I really enjoyed this collection. This time, I did NOT read the back jacket description before starting it, so I was able to read it like I would any other anthology.

Of course, the comics in this volume seemed to flow into one another well. (Just my luck, that.)

Happily, this volume did pick up where Volume 2 left off. That shadow-man was the Fugue, messing with Batgirl's memories. :-)

I enjoyed seeing Babs come out on top in the battle versus the Fugue. And then it moved relatively seamlessly into a battle versus the Gladius Commander.

I was pleased that I understood everything. :-)

Though, again, I wish the artist had stayed constant throughout. As with the last Volume, Babs's changing looks especially drove me crazy. :-(

But since it was always apparent who everyone was, I really enjoyed both the stories and the art in this volume. :-)

Both the art and writing felt like something straight out of some YA novel for early teen girls. Can't believe the Batgirl film directors are gonna use this as the source material instead of Gail Simone's run or Year One wtf.

Off topic but literally some in issues' comment section (read this online) even when Nightwing doesn't appear there would be fucking Dick x Starfire shipper hate comments. Some fucking fangirls need to calm down on their "mah shwipp" behaviour. Even on IG would see these dumbass shippers fuming too for having the fanart artist dare draw Barbara and Dick 2 metres too close to each other.

Once again, the artwork is amazing. But, I don't know, this is such a by-the-numbers book. The villains are practically interchangeable, the plot is predictable and repetitive (they pretty much admit to rehashing the same plot as the first volume), there is no wit to the dialogue... I just wish there was something other than the art that made these books stand out.

The Burnside arc ends have a truly underwhelming run. Barbara finally gets a decent villain in the enigmatic Fugue. He has once again infiltrated Barbara's programming in her brain, but while he's in her mind, he's picking up intellect on her. He knows her secret identity, all her secrets, but our Babs isn't going down with a fight. She calls on all her roomies and friends to take down the other forgettable villains she faced in this run. So the Mindfield arc was actually decent but than they had to throw in that one issue of Endgame that made absolutely no sense.

As awful of a run this title was, I know that it's been wiped from canon with the new Rebirth titles. I'm hoping it brings back sassy and fierce Batgirl, or that they just bring back Gail Simone already who had built up a wonderful new batgirl for DC only for this team to tear her down.

I must admit the best in the series was the first volume, the second and third just grew into a convoluted storyline. Batgirl was redesigned during the New 52 and I think it was for the better, the Gotham vigilantes were missing some humour and this series was the logical choice to mix it up. The storyline here is more of a Birds of Prey crossover and that wasn't the ideal mix for this series. I enjoyed the book but I still think they artempted too much here. I liked these better then the revamped Rebirth but that was merely the first volume in that range.

And with the end of the New 52 comes the end of Batgirl's stint in Burnside! I know that there are more stories to be told, but it looks like Rebirth has decided to bring her back to Gotham. So we got three collections of Babs kicking it in the Brooklyn analog in the DC Universe, and I think that while they started strong they got a little less and less to my liking. That said, while I found MINDFIELDS to be the weakest of the bunch, I did love the progression of the characters and Batgirl's willingness to ask for help and to share the burden. I really hope that in Rebirth a number of these characters stick around, especially Frankie.

The final installment in the Batgirl of Burnside and I thought that it came to a nice end. There were a few stories in here that I was like, what even is happening? But the final story where they wrap everything up was nicely done and left room for more if the author decides to ever go back. I still love all of the artwork in these volumes. So vibrant and colorful, it really brought the world to life.

Sad to see this series come to an end. The whole gang was back for this volume (including Black Canary & the kids of Gotham Academy). I love these characters & hope they'll be back for more adventures in spin off stories.

'Batgirl, Volume 3: Mindfields' has someone messing with Batgirl's mind. Can she figure it out before she loses it altogether?

The main story is about Batgirl losing her mind. She enlists friends to help her, including Black Canary, Bluebird, and Spoiler. She senses something is wrong when she can't remember recent events. It comes to a head when she finds herself betrayed by someone that is close to her. Can she stop the memory loss and get her life back>

The second story starts as Barbara Gordon's new energy company is starting up and she's decided to hang up the cape for a bit. The problem with that is when Gladius shows up and Batgirl is afraid her friends are in over their heads. She dons the cape again, but ends up making some big decisions about her life and business before it's all over.

I'm familiar with Batgirl, but I found these stories just ok. The art is pretty amazing, and I like the look of Batgirl and company. The second story just came across as a bit confusing to me. The fights happened and Batgirl made her choice and the whole thing just kind of lost me. There is a back up story that is mostly art with no dialogue and I actually liked this the best.

I received a review copy of this graphic novel from DC Entertainment and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this graphic novel.

A fun arc and a wonky end.

I love this series, it's fun it's light and the art has been absolutely wonderful. So with Rebirth happening how does this series end?

World: The art is nice but there were a lot of artists this arc and I did find the art disorienting. They are all wonderful artists and each brings their little bit of flavor to the series but it was a bit disorienting. The world building here is also wonderful and makes sense in the Batgirl of Burnside universe that this would be the final arc (I wish it was). The Fugue character and the play with the world was wonderful.

Story: The Fugue story was great because it called back to the entire run from this creative team and this arc would have been a great end for the series. I won't go into it as it is something to enjoy. It's light and fun but at the same time there is still weight to the story, it's good. The final 2 issues on the other hand were pretty pointless and a waste of time. I did not see the point of it and I would have wanted more character development and wrapping up with the team but that's not the case. Gladius was stupid and was just a page burn. The end of the series and the change of the status quo does make some sense and I do hope that Batgirl gets back to Burnside soon, the team dynamic in the final arcs was great and I am at this moment questioning whether they should be the Birds of Prey and not the lineup that has been announced for the Rebirth book but oh well let's see where DC goes with that series.

Characters: The call backs to character moments and interactions is great it feels there is weight to it and makes the characters much deeper. The final villain Fugue (I'm not gonna count Gladius) made sense and his development was interesting. The end emotions for the characters was a bit rushed and though the development does make sense it should have been panned out more and the entire Gladius story should not have existed, but oh well.

A fun fun fun run that made me love Batgirl again and turned me around to Babs being in the suit again. New creative team change in Rebirth gives me pause but this series will be here forever and In my opinion this was one of the best reboots that DC has done in a long long while.

Onward to the next book!

[Read as single issues]

Batgirl's Burnside adventure comes to a conclusion here as Brendan Fletcher, Cameron Stewart, and Babs Tarr finish off their run, bringing all their plotlines home to roost and seeing all your favourite characters off in style.

The Burnside run of this title has been an unequivocal success if you ask me, breathing new life into the character and trying something new and exciting. This final volume continues this trend, with some positively mind-bending issues that take place inside Babara's head as she realises what's been wrong with her life across the past 12 issues.

Babs Tarr leaves the title earlier than the two writers, but her fill-ins for the final few issues are more than up to the challenge, giving us a pseudo-Birds of Prey two-part storyline that has all of Batgirl's supporting cast plus some fun guest stars like Spoiler and Blue Bird taking on everyone that's caused her problems across the entire Burnside run, and even tying up a loose end from the annual.

This is a great little end-cap to what's been one of the more innovative mainstream superhero books in years. Lots to love, especially if you enjoyed what went before.

I wanted to love this but it was like pulling teeth to read this, especially after Simone's run of Batgirl was such a wonderful master piece.

I feel that DC wanted this to be their version of Ms. Marvel but they messed it up and ruined such a wonderful opportunity.

It's like the writers did everything they could to not make this is a Barbara Gordon story line, which disappointed me. I've read some early Batgirl and loved it as well as BOP/Oracle and they got away from all of that. The art was okay- I enjoy the costume update but there were certain things that bugged me on and off about it a.

I'm curious about Batgirl: Rebirth. I'm hopeful with a new creative team that they'll get back to Barbara being Barbara, strong and confident and smart, and less love sick/ditsy. Also please bring back Jim Gordon's mustache. He doesn't look right without it.

Unfortunately this one wasn't as good as the previous two trades. The first story arc was pretty great but the second one fell flat for me with a cookie - cutter villan. The patchwork of fill in artists was distracting too.

Still, I'm excited to see what this creative team does with Motor Crushed. The Image model is probably a better fit.
