BFF Sadie and Mocha roll hard for one another. Sadie's cousin, Ray is second in command for the dopefiend's supply and demand in Detroit. Until he's given the opportunity to be the 'boss' he's always been. Sadie begs for her place in his kingdom and bullies a reluctant Mocha to ride to the moon with them, clad in Louboutins, Gucci and heavy artillery. Deeming themselves The Last Kings, they re-build an empire with higher walls, structured trap houses, wiser and wealthier soldiers, legitimate businesses, and a liaison with the Italians that promises limitless dope.

The Last Kings left me with mixed emotions, because it started off with a monotonous drone but erupted into a thunderous explosion. I was almost halfway through the book before it took on a life of it's on. There were some familiar almost copycat scenes topped with contradictory descriptions...the developmental stage was thorough but took entirely to long and was almost fatal. If I didn't know any better, I'd think I read two different voices, simply saying two authors. A dynamic ending swooped in with a captivating save and solidified that indeed, The. Last. Kings. Don't. Die...they live to avenge their own...or do they? Love, loyalty, business-savvy, revenge, murder, sexual immorality, and even devotion make for an engaging tale of life in a kingpin's kingdom. Editing issues, an inconclusive ending and a very slow beginning are my reasoning for this rating. 3.88

When I saw this book being promoted by Ashley and Jaquavis I knew I would like it, but after reading it, I must say I LOVE this book. I have read many books about hustling and it takes talent to bring you a story that is different from anything else you have ever read. With The Last Kings C.N. Phillips definitely brought a refreshing story line to life successfully. There were a few minor errors but nothing that hindered my reading. Once I started reading I didn't want to put the book down. Seriously this book is great! I cannot wait to read the sequel to see how things turn out and if kings really live forever. If you're a fan of Ashley and Jaquavis then you will love this book.

I read & listened to this book a long time ago & I can't say that I liked or hated it. I'll just say that I....thought that Sadie tried to decide not just her own life, but that of her friend Mocha's as well.
I totally understood why Mocha didn't want to share with Sadie her real reasons why she traveled back & forth to Atlanta; because she wanted to have some business & a life of her own away from what her Bestie Sadie wanted in life.
In the beginning I rooted for Mocha & her new ATL BF KHIRON.But, THAT changed when I found out what Khiron was up to, what motivated him, & especially who he was related to (Nino-the drug kingpin who is his father & would-be stepdad of Sadie, whom he REPEATEDLY SA when she was a teenager).
Jealousy over Nino's treatment of Sadie over him motivated Khiron to takeover Michigan-one of the territories that his perverted rapist drug-dealing dad used to run before Sadie set him(Nino) up to be arrested & jailed by DEA on several drug-related charges. What Nino had been doing to Sadie is what almost made me put the book down. But, I wanted to know more about KHIRON & MOCHA; so I continued my reading, just skipped over all the SA scenes (in this book Sadie was a frequent rape victim, which greatly bothered me. Truthfully, there was a lot of SA/Rape near SA/Rape scenes in this book that was completely unnecessary.) to get to the other going ons in the book.
KHIRON wanted to takeover Michigan so badly that he came at Sadie & her family HARD by causing a situation with Tyler, Sadie's love interest & right hand of her cousin Ray, who held Detroit as a territory, that left readers worried that Tyler had been killed.
Then, he killed Grandma Rae before he TORTURED Sadie with old visuals of what his perverted father, Nino had been doing to her over her teen years before Khiron shot her in the chest where the heart is located (for everyone else but weirdly NOT for her! Book 2 will explain the ridiculous unrealistic situation)had Ray, who had previously turned him down for a partnership during a meeting (Incidentally where Khiron discovered after viewing photos in the restaurant where the meeting had taken place that his nemesis Sadie was connected to Ray & Mocha). That was before he had Sadie's cousin Ray kidnapped, tied up, & tortured before he poured a batch of acid on him, ALL WHILE FORCING MOCHA TO HELP HIM DO SO!
There had been a Prologue that allowed the readers/listeners know before hand that some had survived what had happened to them & that Mocha's breathing was on a countdown.

Meh

I gave this book 2 stars because it was boring and slow moving. It also had lots of typos. In an effort to clear out some unread books on my kindle I came to this book. And much to my surprise I had already started it. So I started it from the beginning...again. Then I remembered I stopped reading it because it just didn't grab and hold my attention. I would've given the book 1 star but gave it 2 because the book had so much potential to be great. Also another reason I gave it 2 stars instead of 1 was because the last 25% of the book the story picked up significantly and was actually interesting. Really not feeling this book or the fact that I purchased part 2 to this book (must've bought both at the same time) and now i feel like I have to read it to see how it ends. I really liked the prada plan protege by this author so I'm really shocked that this was as good especially considering all the positive reviews.

It was a pretty good book but a few parts were unrealistic x10... like why was D and Amann alone for the big drop after 2 spots had been hit... naw, and close to the end the editing sucked a little and I kept getting confused because they kept bringing Ray into scenes he was not in... freaking editors... I reread those pages twice before I realized it was a mistake... I said, wait a minute... Ray ain’t even there... lol but it was ok... I will start part 2 tomorrow

This is another read that I thought would be more enthralling than it turned out to be. The writing was good, but I don't know if there was enough character development for me. Some of the connections didn't necessarily make sense and I didn't buy the intensity between some. It was entertaining, none the less, but I didn't like it enough to go over 3 starts or to continue the series.

Reading the Prologue is hit or miss sometimes. I felt like this one gave away the ending but it was in fact still a great read.

I decide to give C.N. Phillips change to read her book. I am happy that she is signed with A&J. This is my first time to reading from this author. The Last Kings is a amazing and great read. C.N. Phillips did a good job. I like the concept and vibe in this book. I enjoyed reading this book because it's well written and well characters. Also, I enjoyed reading about Sadie's story. There are lot of emotion, hater, love/hate and jealousy in this book. There was love and hate between Sadie and Mocha.

Like: Ray is a protect and provide to Mocha and Sadie. He always be there for them. Grandma Rae is a great role model to Mocha and Sadie. Sadie is a loyal, and good friend to Mocha. She always to be there for Mocha. She allows Mocha to stay at her grandma's house.

Dislike: Mocha is not a good friend and loyal to Sadie and The Last Kings crew. She kept the secrets and lies to everyone.

I felt bad what's happen to Grandma Rae because she doesn't deserve it. C.N. Phillips takes her time to writing this book. This book and author deserve five stars from me because it's page turner. I'm looking forward to read another book from this author. Also, I'm looking forward to read part 2 of this book.

Well done!

The Last Kings

Wow!!! Even though there were a few errors I still enjoyed this read. From the beginning I could tell Mocha wasn't right. Ray went from working with someone to building his own empire of those he considered loyal. I loved Sadie because she was a go getter and stayed with some type of hustle. I hated the things she had to go through growing up because of Nino's perverted ass! Tyler remained loyal to his boy and The Last Kings seemed to be off to a good start. As with any situation, there's always someone that doesn't want to see you succeed. Coopa was sick and twisted in his own way and couldn't accept the fact Ray moved much smarter than him. Mocha stayed up to something and her sneaking proved she wasn't as loyal as she should've been. Khiron was very greedy and vengeful and wouldn't stop at anything to dismantle Ray's empire. I felt bad for Tyler but was glad he was able to put Ray in the know about who was causing so many problems. And just that quick Mocha's naive ass didn't realize she was being played. I can't wait to read part 2. Hopefully Khiron and Mocha both will suffer for all the pain they caused Sadie and her family.

"The Last Kings" was a great read! It was Ray's intent to start something great and to come up in the street game with those who he felt close too and trusted the most. Everything started off great and then it all went bad. I liked how the author tied Sadie's past in with the characters that were in the story. I think if Mocha would have shared her real intent for traveling back and forth to Atlanta, things may have gone in a different direction. I hope there will be a part 2.

kings don't die

The beginning really wasn't give me much excitement . But the middle and end took it home for me and got me excited to finish a lot of the small details helped mad secrets cleared I gasped when I find out who khrion father was and why he was after Sadie. Inly thing I really didn't like was the mix up of characters but I got passed it because I knew who the author meant . But imma read part 3 too see what else happens

This was the first book I have read by this author and throughly enjoyed it. It was action packed and filled with unexpected twists and turns. However due to the many editing errors I gave it 4 stars. I definitely enjoyed this book minus the errors.

GREAT READ!!! This was a real page turner. Sadie is that b**th but I think she should have put a bullet in Mocha's head and I'm glad Tyler is still alive. It's a lot I could say about this book but I don't want to spoil it. Can't wait for part 2. Thanks for the ride CN Pillips
