The timeless appeal of alphabet books meets the patented technology of Scanimation. A National Parenting Product Awards (NAPPA) winner!
Scanimation is a state-of-the-art animation process that creates the illusion of movement in each picture. In terms kids can relate to, it's like a video without a screen.
ABC Animals presents the alphabet as it’s never been seen before. In a romping, stomping journey from A to Z, watch the A lligator snap, the B ats swooping, the C amel trot. There’s L for the L ion proudly prowling along, and M for the M ouse scurrying inside his wheel. And it all culminates in the largest Scanimation image Z , for Z oo, where all the animals gather to play. Each page is a marvel that brings animals, along with one shining star, to life with art that literally moves. It's impossible not to flip the page, and flip it again, and again, and again.
This is a fun book. ABC Animals, is a hardcovered picture book mostly in black and white. There are quite a few pages but the wording isn't lengthy. It takes the reader no only through the Alphabet with animals corresponding to those letters, but it also has imagery that the reader has to really look at for a bit to get the picture. The way that the animals are depicted in this book is a way that makes the reader say, "whoa I can almost touch that alligator". It's a wonderful way to have the kids see an animal in just black and white while in their minds they are really seeing the animal in the right colors. ABC Animals could also be read as on I think with this book something is different. Does anyone know what is different about this book? What is missing from this book? This would lead the kids to think about what is different from the other books that were read.
Trying to make space on my bookshelves and I found this among my children’s picture books. It’s an alphabet animal book with almost no text. But what makes it a keeper is the mechanical illustrations. As you turn the page, a piece of plastic with black and clear stripes slides under a set of windows, and makes the silhouette drawing of animals move.
I came across a video on-line where Seder explains he has a background in making movies and how he came up with this technology, and made greeting cards. Publisher Workman approached him about gathering the cards into a book, and now they’ve published several books together.
This one is a keeper. I imagine kids might get bored and prefer videos, but as an adult I can appreciate the innovation here.
I really enjoy the scanimation books, this one has some cool and less known animals (Ibis, X-ray fish, Urial). Straightforward book with next to no storyline but nice intro to ABC and just plain fun to watch the pictures move as you read.
Very fun moving visuals, and also cool that the animals chosen for each letter were not always the most obvious choice. I'd never even heard of a urial!
1) No awards 2) Ages 1-5 3) ABC Animals identifies the letters of the alphabet in large letter in both lower and capitalize letters. The letters on each page are color coordinated with the picture of an animal on the opposite page. This will help children identify letter, colors, and animals. 4) I think this is a great book because children will love looking at the pictures of different animals. They will also be able to connect the animal with the correct letter. It is a really good book for children who are just learning their abc's because they can interact with the moving illustrations. 5) This book can be used for little children just starting to learn the alphabet. It can be also used to introduce a new letter and words that it can possibly make.
1. 2016 National Parenting Product Award 2. prek-2 3. An all around favorite, the Scanimation Alphabet Book teaches children letters, and animals while having entertaining illustrations. When you turn the page in this book the animals will "move" based on a technique now called "scanimation". There are simple animals, as well as more exotic animals to fit the theme. A sure favorite for both children and adults! 4. I love this book. I've seen it many times and I think that the way it is designed and laid out is very effective and appealing. The book is easy to read and enjoy for all ages either through read aloud or independent reading. 5. Independent Reading Read Aloud Animal knowledge
Exotic animals are assigned to represent all of the letters of the alphabet from A to Z. The Scanimation artwork is fascinating as always, but there's not much to the text, just a rhyming intro and conclusion.
