I’m phenomenal in the courtroom. I’m even better in the bedroom.
Foster
I guarantee clients the best result possible. I guarantee women a night they will never forget. I always keep my promises.
Women get one night with me and that’s it. Then April comes along and turns everything on its head.
Now I’m her boss, and if she thinks she’s going to get off lightly, she’s going to be in for a big, thick, throbbing surprise.
April
Life as a law student is tough enough, without having to deal with people like Foster Arrington.
He caught me at a vulnerable moment. That’s my excuse and I’m sticking to it.
I’m sensible enough to know better, but his muscles, tattoos, and predication to violence are impossible to resist.
Now I have to work with him. And he’s going to be my stepbrother. He hits on me all the time, but that’s not the problem. The problem is I think I like it. A lot.
Foster is a standalone novel with a HEA and no cliffhangers.
Jessica Ashe is a twenty-six year old lawyer, who has turned her hand to her real passion--writing about alpha males and bad boys. She's likely living vicariously through the heroines in her book until she finds an alpha male of her own.
I've read nearly all of Jessica's books and she never fails to disappoint. This one however is my favourite so far. It had me crying in laughter a fair few times point. The chemistry is off the charts and oh boy it gets hot under that ole collar. Definitely worth a read, great job yet again.
April is a law student in her early twenties, and she's working as a summer associate at a prestigious law firm. At some lawyer convention-type thing, a junior associate-who also happens to be a managing partner's son-is propositioning her for sex in a progressively more coercive manner. She's attempting to gracefully reject her superior's advances without damaging her future career when a nameless handsome stud intervenes, ends up punching the dude out, and she and the stud proceed to have a night of passion. After eight months go by with no contact between them, April discovers that her mysterious one night stand's name is Foster, and they are both blindsided by the news that not only are their parents getting married-to each other, but that they are about to be working together at his mother's law firm for the summer. Ruh-roh!
This book was fun. I thought the realism of their work as lawyers/law students added a lot to the story. April seemed legitimately clever, and she didn't get tongue-tied and stupid in the face of Foster's advances, which I appreciated.
My main issue with the story was that Foster seemed like a raging douche. A hero sleeping around and being arrogant isn't anything new to me, nor is it a negative in and of itself. But Foster took it to new, and wildly unattractive, heights. He kept the underwear of all of his one-night-stands, which grossed me out and really emphasized the conquest nature of his sexual habits. Of his one-night-only policy with women, he explained that he didn't "go back to a woman I'd claimed" and that "No one had ever enticed me back for seconds". It made him sound like such a tool! Having a conquest-type attitude toward women and sex at fucking 29 years old is ridiculous, wildly immature, and hugely indicative of some major insecurities about his masculinity in my opinion.
For the record, if he had impulsively just kept her underwear on a whim as a memento, I would have found that hot. But he did it as practice, and told her so. In fact, he kept referencing that he'd fucked a lot of women to April, almost compulsively, before, during, and after they had sex. I swear, the guy had a complex.
To further bolster my insecure theory, he also kept obsessively comparing his attractiveness to the other men around him, and reassuring himself that he was hotter. Not only was all this terribly unattractive, it was pretty fucking pathetic.
However, his worst offense to me was the utter negligence with which he treated April's career. During her interaction with the junior associate douche Zach, April was trying to carefully extract herself from the fragile situation without damaging her career prospects. Then Foster barged in with the type of finesse reminiscent of my English bulldog trying to drink water from his dish when he's overheated. And to be clear, he didn't actually give a shit about April's predicament at all, he just wanted to fuck her. Foster punched the guy, thereby infuriating and humiliating him, and Zach ended up vowing to get April blacklisted for the incident in retaliation. And he did. April was swiftly told that she wouldn't be invited back to that firm next summer, and she found that she had been blackballed from every major firm she applied at. Foster had originally soothed April that night in the face of Zach's threats by promising to get her a job, but he never followed through, and obviously had no intention to.
Not getting a summer job at a firm would make it almost impossible for April to get a spot somewhere after she graduated, and she knew it. Then, an unexpected boon came in the form of an interview at a firm that would later be revealed to be Foster's mother's. When the two MCs were both surprised to find April in Foster's office for the interview, he not only never bothered to seriously interview her, he sent an email telling his mother that she was not a suitable hire immediately afterward. In his own words: "I knew I was potentially messing up her career as a lawyer before it had even begun, but I couldn’t risk having a distraction like her around all summer".
Then, when he heard both that his mom was to marry April's father, and that she got hired on at the firm anyway despite his efforts, he was put out about it. Because he apparently had the emotional maturity of a middle schooler, he made the decision to deliberately ruin her experience working there. To be clear, April had done nothing, nothing to merit any of this treatment.
So to recap, he: got her fired, got her blacklisted from getting another job, tried to keep her from getting her one job prospect left, and then tried to sabotage her work experience, all because he wanted to fuck her. I must say, those are some pretty egregious gender discrimination/sexual harassment offenses from where I'm standing, and that's not even close to a comprehensive list of his transgressions of this kind. It's interesting, because we were made to revile the junior associate Zach for his sexual harassment toward the heroine, but the hero seemed just as bad to me.
Now, onto the heroine. As I mentioned earlier, I liked April. She was intelligent, and was legitimately clever in her responses to Foster's constant come-ons. Really, the only thing that bothered me about her was that she was so attracted to Foster. I appreciated that she kept it together when Foster would flirt or whatever, but inevitably afterward, her thoughts would turn to mush and she'd be swooning over him. Like really? That guy?
The guy whose form of seduction went like this:
"when our parents weren’t looking, I stuck my tongue out at her and slowly moved it up and down just as I had when my head had been between her legs".
Now to me, that maneuver sounds comically unattractive, but to her, "a slight shiver run through her body". That does it for her?
He actually said shit to her like, " 'I’m not against the idea of a rematch,' Foster said, as if he was doing me a favor. 'Sometimes after a long day of work I don’t have the energy to pick up anyone new. You’ll do as a bit of fun' ". Again, I was thoroughly disgusted and turned off by this, but April walked away thinking "how much longer could I last? I was only human, and Foster was… Foster was impossible to resist". How the fuck does that work?
Foster, as in the guy who thought things like "April wanted me. That was natural enough. What did that prove? She wasn’t blind". That was the guy April found irresistible.
I guess I just...didn't get it. I would read things like, "I stared at him, trying to read the expression in his eyes, but instead I just lost myself in his gaze", and I would just feel totally flabbergasted. I'm not going to lie, it made me lose respect for her.
Eventually, he did come to care about April, as well as her career, and in this way he did redeem himself to an extent. But April resumed her sexual relationship before that development, and even after his change of heart, he never did become attractive in my eyes.
There was a healthy amount of steam, which I enjoyed. The sex scenes were a solid B, I thought. Not bad at all, but I think my expectations were raised too high after the hero hyped his sexual prowess as much as he did. But still, I thought they had good chemistry.
I did enjoy the author's writing style, and I thought the pacing and bones of the story were all great. The phrasing in the dialogue all sounded distinctly British, though the story took place in the US. But otherwise I thought the dialogue felt really natural and intelligent.
While I ran into some snags, I still absolutely enjoyed reading this book, and it made me excited to read more of this author's work.

Women only get one night with Foster. He knows what he’s got and he knows how to make them come. That’s all he’s willing to give April…until he can’t stop thinking about her. When Foster comes to April’s rescue, she can’t seem to get enough of him. Then he blatantly beds her with only the promise of one night. Okay, she can deal with one night of pleasure and send him on his way…but then before she knows it, he’s her boss. Now he won’t stop flirting with her and wants to offer her another night of pleasure. She can’t let that happen now that he’s her boss. Or will she finally give in when he just won’t stop?
I loved it! Foster is sizzling hot and attention grabbing right off the bat. Although the hero could be a tad too arrogant, he quickly made up for it and proved just why his ego is so elevated (ooh!). The interaction between the hero and heroine was always comical and most often quite steamy. I totally enjoyed Ms. Ashe’s sex scenes and found them quite stimulating (oh yeah!). This is my first Jessica Ashe book and I’m raring to go for the next! She seemed very knowledgeable with the background for this story and brought it forward in a delightful way. Foster was unique; not your average romantic plot. I’ll be talking about this one everywhere I go…in the real world and the world wide web. 5 Stars!
This book was really great and I read it in one sitting. The pacing and construction of the plot was perfect. The dialogue and banter was very clever and witty. Jessica Ashe writes humor very well and it was used perfectly to balance a very confident (aka arrogant and cocky) Foster. I was deeply impressed with his ability to take anything and seamlessly make it dirty. I kind of loved and looked forward to his not so veiled innuendos. Seriously, they were (fairly) smooth and definitely impressive. April is equally likable and has a great sense of humor. She keeps a (formerly but unapologetically) slutty Foster on his toes. Once he's in, he's all in even though he doesn't know it for awhile.
Obviously, I'm reading this book primarily for the H/h's relationship and HEA, but I found myself loving how Ms. Ashe brought together all of the threads of the story together in the end. Nothing felt forced, it all flowed into a highly entertaining read.
I received a copy of this book from the author for an honest review.
I enjoyed reading about Foster and April. Foster State out as the cocky type but by the end out the book he is shown to he much more. He has a protective side as most romance books have but he also essentially gives up has career a a grand gesture for April. I cracked up laughing reading this book in more than one place. Good read.
Some humor which is nice, the most memorable thing was the cute proposal at the end. I wouldn’t run to read this, I skimmed a lot of the lawyer talk, but it’s not terrible either. Safe pallet cleanser with some grammatical errors and cringy smut words (just personal, I can’t stand using “sex” vs pussy and “meat” vs cock/dick in smut.)
I loved this story. I love all they went through to get to where they are. There were a lot of emotions in this one. I do wish we could have heard how she told him and also if they found the son.
I literally couldn't stop reading until I finished the whole book. Wonderful story telling. Really enjoyed it! I look forward to reading more you have written.
Foster by Jessica Ashe Designation: Stand alone April Rhodes is a summer associate at Cooper & Cooper and a first year law student.
Foster is a towering mound of muscle who is trying to be April’s knight in shining armor when Zach Cooper makes unwelcome advances. Zach is not intimidated, so Foster punches him in the face. Foster and April talk further and April realizes that Foster is completely out of her league. He tells her that he does not do relationships, but if he is feeling generous, he will give her one night she will never forget. So April takes him up on his offer and he delivers just what he promised, but leaves after she falls asleep.
Fast forward eight months and April has been blacklisted and can’t find a job. She still thinks of that one night, but does not know who the guy was. Her dad calls to ask her to visit for the weekend and although she wants to she cannot give up her job search. Unexpectedly she gets a message from the law firm of Arrington & Hedges asking her to interview. She interviews with three partners and then a late addition, Mr. Foster Arrington.
The minute she walks in she recognizes him as the man she has fantasied about for 8 months. He realizes that his mom set up her interview and immediately tells her that April will not be suitable for the position, but that isn’t true, he just can’t be around her all summer.
Turns out that not only does his mom still hire her, but that his mom is going to marry her father and they well become step siblings.
I actually really enjoyed this story. The characters were very well developed and Foster was a complete arrogant jerk, but so hot at the same time. April was spunky and could hold her own around him. They were so great together, but April realizes that she may not want to be a lawyer after all. Then a clerical error causes her to lose her job and Zach comes back to punish her and Foster.
Hero: Foster Arrington 5 stars Heroine: April Rhodes 5 stars Steam Level: 5 stars Plot: 5 stars Cliffhanger: no

What happens when a girl wanting to hide and be the wallflower gets noticed by the one guy in the room that wants her undivided attention? Instant heat...
April is a law student at a meet & greet for lawyers and law students trying to get an edge on intern jobs. While trying to get through the function, she is hounded by one of the lawyers at the firm she's been working at for the summer--and not in a good way. Being the son of one of the partners, he feels he's entitled to whatever he wants, and he wants April. Unfortunately for him, the feeling is far from mutual.
Foster is a gorgeous, arrogant lawyer at this same function, and has had his eyes on April since the instant she walked in the room. He has decided to "honor her" with one night with him, when he notices the jerk pawing at her in an aggressive manner. Not only does he want her, but now he wants to save her from this man that looks like he's playing lawyer at his daddy's law firm. Turns out he's right.
After stepping in to help April with her situation, the two leave and then the sparks fly. One night of hot passion is what he gives her, and she is more than willing to take it.
Fast-forward eight months and now April is having a hard time finding a summer intern job at any law firm, due to how Foster handled the situation during the previous summer. Things take a turn as her dad sets up an interview for her. Much to her surprise one of the lawyers she ends up meeting with is Foster. Believing she's been set up she walks away unsure if she is or isn't going to get this job. She goes to spend the weekend with her dad and meet the first woman he's been serious about since her mom died. And that's where the fun starts...
I'm sure you can guess who is on the other side of that door when she and her dad go to have dinner at his girlfriend's house! This story only gets better from there. Sparks fly, tempers flare, and the "who is going to cave first" keeps you turning the pages. I also loved how the book wrapped up for the HEA. Great read!!
received this book as ARC for a HONEST review and fell in love it was hard to put this book down.I read this book in just a couple of hours. It had a great story line not you typical stepbrother romance. Foster Arrington is a lawyer with Arrington,Arrington &Hedge Law Firm.Foster is so full of him self and a little bit of a bad boy he is cocky, arrogant and a wanna be player .Foster has good looks and money.Foster is more worried about making money .Foster is a screw them a leave them wanting more a one night and one night only guy.He thinks he is so good a woman only needs to be with him once and she is ruined for any other man. April Rodes is a summer associate law student .April is at a event for lawyers and summer associates/interns.April is in a confortation with a lawyer from the same firm she is working for during the summer. Foster see the way the guy is grabbing and mistreating April.Foster goes over and stops it and pisses the guy off and gets April fired. April and Foster have some drinks.April takes Foster back to her palce sometine she never does and has one hot night to remember. April soon learns that her father is going to remarry and wants April to meet his girlfriend and son.April tells her father she cant come for a vist unless she gets a new job as a summer associate.Seeing she lost her other job.April get a call for a interview form Arrington,Arrington &Hedge Law Firm and so the twist and turns begin. How did she find ME?? She is all I think about for the last 8 month...........the story didn't stop hear I just dont want to spoil it but there is some hot unforgetable nights for April and Foster Enjoy the read because I sure loved it
I had a such a great time reading this book! While Foster is definitely knowledgeable when it comes to the law, he could be a hot mess at other times, especially when it comes to April, the young woman he met (and subsequently rescued) at some attorney networking function. Of course Foster is a one-and-done man, until he gets with April.
April is an ambitious young woman who dreams of being a lawyer same as her late mother was, but an event takes place at the start of the story that leaves April scrambling to find employment. Fast forward eight months after the networking debacle and April is interviewing at a law firm and who is the last person to interview her? That's right, hot mess Foster. Of course feelings are flying all over the place, regardless of how much they try to remain hidden from the rest of society.
But wait! There's more to the story.
In a nutshell, dating parents throw a monkey wrench in the works. Not to mention a conflict with a particular client and lawsuit, a smarmy little sh#t-for-brains douchebag who thinks he's God's gift to everyone trying to blackmail a character and you get one hell of a fun story to read. This was my first time reading Jessica Ashe, and I can assure that this won't be my last.
Foster is a successful, arrogant, hot-shot lawyer. He loves women, can get anyone he likes, but never goes back for seconds. When he sets his sights on April, he definitely wants her.
April is rescued from the unwelcome advances of her employer by Foster. His protective instincts come to the fore and his fists join the foray. April is smitten and they spend a very memorable night together. Not surprisingly, Foster is gone by the time she wakes up the next morning, and she doesn’t see him again…until she walks into an interview, eight months later.
Foster has never forgotten April and was tempted to track her down, but he stuck to his one-time rule, instead. Their chemistry is obvious but April tries to keep him at arm’s length because not only is he her boss, but they discover that they are about to become step-siblings.
This novel tickled me. Foster is so assured and arrogant, and says it how it is. April makes a great effort to keep from surrendering to her lust but Foster makes it very hard. Working in close proximity also enables them to grow closer together, until Foster finally breaks down her barriers. This was a fun, sexy novel!
This was a good read if you like to read about step siblings ending up together and what they have to go though. There was only a few spelling and grammar errors. April and Foster's story began as two strangers meeting at a get together for law students and lawyers. She was being harassed by a fellow college and Foster stepped in to help. This started their time together. Ok, so on a personal note, I know these are romance, but why does the author's have to write the female characters as giving in so quickly when they are betrayed? I don't mean by cheating, but by whatever they female character feels. After feeling betrayed by Foster, April ignores him for a few days and then she forgives him when he drops a client. Other than that, I recommend this author and book to readers. I hope you enjoy this read as much as I did.
Foster is an arrogant, handsome lawyer. April is a law student. Throw in a jerk from April's previous job and you have a great story.
This is a story of girl meets guy. They are attracted to each other. They have a great night of sex, then don't run into each other for months.
When they see each other again, sparks fly. Trying to fight the attraction they then learn about his mother and her father dating. Now you have the problem of the "Step" issues.
I found this book well written and once I started I couldn't put it down. This being the first time I've read a book by Jessica Ashe I wasn't sure if I would enjoy it. I must say I not only enjoyed it but am looking forward to reading more by her. Great Job!
I received an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
You know when a story is told like a million of times, it almost became a cliché? But then comes a story , a different name, a different author , but suddenly oh so catching.
This is how Foster pretty much went for me. When I started it, I thought that it would be boring and just a typical stepbrother story, but it surprised me. It had a great potential. I loved it. I loved the characters.
April was shy and timid, but she managed to show her inner confidence and be herself. She saw from the few who still respected morals and didn't work 100% for the money.
Foster intimidated me throughout the story. I hated him 85% of the book. I thought April deserved better, but that shift in him changed him. She changed him.
* * ARC given on behalf of obsessed by books for an honest review * *
Saved by a knight in shining armor you could say tats what Foster did for April but is his intentions good?. April is aat a meet and greet for lawyers when she is approached by one that she worked with but it's not in a good way and that's when Foster notices and comes to her rescue. When they leave together sparks fly but just for one night. 8 Mos later an April still can't find a job til she gets a interview and one of the people she interviews with happens to be Foster, April feels it's a sset up and runs but she never expected the surprise got. I loved it , I couldn't put it down.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review......
I fell in love with Foster from the very beginning! What a HOT bad boy! It's funny how fate comes back and bites you! April is the perfect woman for Foster! The plot was catching and had me hooked from the very beginning. The characters were well-developed and easily relatable. You couldn't help but want to punch the villain in the story. This was a fast paced read - one you could read in one sitting easily. I'm glad these two got their HEA ending. A must read!!! I look forward to reading more from Jessica Ashe.
This was a very great read that I could not put down! I loved the interactions between Foster and April. Very quick witted and fun along with friction from another character made everything work so well. I loved the law setting also. I am looking forward to other books from this author!
I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Thoroughly enjoyed this story. April is extremely funny and could probably pull off the dumb blonde routine very well because she is so smart. I liked the fact that the parents were on board and their finding out was not the main plot of the book. A good storyline and Fosters tattoos made for great imaginative eye candy.
I liked the story between April and Foster. I will say the fact Foster went from never sleeping with the same women twice to a somehow being in a relationship didn't sit right with me. There was no lead up. No mention of him being with someone else over the following months. I liked April character. She was strong a smar
This is the first book I've read by Jessica Ashe and it won't be the last. Foster was a bit of an a**e to begin with but I have to say that I liked him a lot and April was just as nice. The story line was great and it flowed well keeping me engaged all the way through. All in all it was a great, well written story and I would highly recommend it.
I enjoyed the story. It wasn't really one that made you feel the characters, but good nonetheless.
I did have an issue with supposed American characters using British phrases in the beginning. I kept doubling back check to see if I missed something, but no. I understand the author is British but the characters aren't so it's a little odd.
I absolutely loved this book. I was sucked in from the beginning and read it in one sitting. The chemistry and sexual tension between Foster and April was off the charts. Loved that their parents didn't oppose to them being together. This book had me laughing and the epilogue had me smiling all big. Definitely one of my favorite stepbrother romances now!
Foster and April are both forces unable to keep from colliding. I received the ARC of Foster and was suddenly under it's spell from the first page to the last..
This was an ok book, didn't love it but didn't hate it either. I liked the characters although I was a bit bored by the lawyer speak!! There were a few grammatical errors but overall a decent read.
