Me: "Hey are we going to ever get an explanation to half these things? There's a lot of things that are mentioned once and never talked about again..."

These Books:

This series was certainly an adventure to say the least. The first book was quite the surprise, the second one continued with its silliness, the third one was an interesting change of pace but added too much lore too late into the series, and this one had to try and wrap up everything in one go. It was a bit messy, and I think because this was the last volume in the series, some of the issues that could be easily ignored at the beginning are blaringly obvious now. But that being said, as I've stated in all my other reviews, it was a load of fun. I did not have high expecations at all, and I still enjoyed the whole thing immensly. It certainly was a roller coaster, and I'm glad that I did finally get around to reading this series that I spent so much time staring at the spines of.

At it's core, I think that Crilley tried to do too much with too little time. Each book is only about 150 pages, which isn't a lot, especially for a graphic novel. He tried to balance character growth, action, a big romance, AND an entire fantasy element into such a short series when there was simply not enough time. He either should have focused on doing just a romance, just a fantasy/magical realism story, or should have made the volumes longer. I think the character development and the action aspect of the story was pretty good. None of the main characters have too much depth to them, which was fine in this series, and I enjoyed reading about what they went through. The romance got rather stagnant past the second book, and we were told 100 times that they were madly in love without really showing a whole lot of it. And the idea of Deliverers needed more time to be expanded on. Even if certain aspects of the worldbuilding were either weird or straightup not explained, at least the whole thing was fun. That's all I can really ask for. At the end of the day this series served its main purpose, which was to entertain readers, and I was most certainly entertained.

I am rather frustrated by the lack of explanations we got for a lot of minor details, and they really add up in the end. There's a few points in particular that the lack of transparency is so bad that it ruins the moment because I get so confused? For one, when Miki fell out the window why didn't, oh I don't know, THE DELIVERERS GO BACK OUTSIDE AND GET HER? Were they bounded to that house or something that just wasn't explained? Probably, honestly, but even one panel explaining this would have made more sense. And what happened to Hiro's mom? I also don't understand anything about Anra, and I think she got more confusing as the series went on. Hiro mentioned in Summer that she was acting unpredictably, and in this book he says he wonders if she's being controlled by someone else or acting on her own. But if she was acting on her own why would she leave evidence behind to incriminate the pair? Why would she betray them even though she apologized? What were the "other duties" she talked about? I feel like we're supposed to assume Akuzu was somehow controlling her or something even thought thats supposidly not possible.

This is what I mean! This makes no sense, and considering that Anra is important enough of a character that she was on the cover of this volume, I feel like we should have at least gotten answers regarding her. Did she go back to working with Hiro at the end? Did she disappear? Who knows and if I stress over this it's going to drive me crazy.

I also feel like Akuzu as a villain sucked because he barely did anything. He was introduced far too late, and we only got to actually see him at the end. And in the end it didn't even matter what ended up happening because Mother Freya was just going to kick him out in the end. (Maybe that's what Anra was doing, trying to "help" Akuzu just to get him in trouble. AAAAHHH why couldn't that at least have been EXPLAINED at the end??!!) The whole thing feels unnecessary, because in the end it doesn't matter what happened. The two of them get together in an ending that I saw a mile away and nothing they went through, and certainly not anything Akuzu ever did, mattered in the end. Actually at first I thought it was going to have a sad ending and I actually got mad because that would have been a complete waste of my time. But of course that didn't happen, which I'm perfectly happy with.

Overall, if I had to boil it down to one word, I'd say that both this volume, and the series as a whole, was underbaked. It needed more time (and length) to properly flourish. Depth in the romance had to be sacrificed due to time, the worldbuilding had to be sacrificed due to time, minor character arcs had to be sacrificed due to time (this book just forgot about Reika I guess), and a proper falling action and conclusion was sacrificed even though that was crucial. I do appreciate the series for the most part. It has an interesting concept, I had a good laugh reading it, I thought the plot twists were relatively fun, and it was entertaining. So it wasn't bad by any means, but there was so much more that could have come out of this, and I'm almost disappointed that it didn't even remotely reach the potential it could have had.

The concluding volumes of Crilley's four-book set. Miki and Hiro, a Deliverer - a person charged with the responsibility of maintaining the world's limited supply of love - have fallen in love, which is a strict no-no in the Deliverer code. Thus, in Autumn, they go on the run, spending most of the book living an idyllic life in the mountains of Japan. When the Deliverers continue their search, they elect to attempt escaping Japan, to get beyond the Deliverer's reach. Turns out, it's all a plot and they're just pawns in it all, but Miki's resourcefulness and determination manage to overcome. It's a very engaging and moving story, and Crilley strikes a good balance of Miki's weaknesses against her inner strength. The art is terrific, though Crilley sometimes uses too many eyes-wide reaction shots. He does some great work in the backgrounds and extreme foregrounds. I love the blurring effect he puts on leaves blowing past the heroes in few scenes. It's definitely a very engaging and fun series.

I'm happy to say that we've come quite a long way from the way Crilley drew hands in the first volume. That's one of the biggest things artists have problems with, and I'm proud to see he's improved so much over the course of only 4 volumes.

As expected there was a small twist [and I was honestly waiting for it the whole time I was reading], and another small climax moment before we started to the descend of action towards the end of the book.

I will admit that I was expecting a completely different ending than what we got, but the solution to the problem was one that I had thought about way back in volume 1, and I was a little confused why no one suggested it earlier. It's so simple, and handled all the problems they were worried about at once. It was almost comical how easy of a solution there was.

Anyway it was a pretty interesting journy to take with Miki and Hiro, and even though I'm not a huge romance fan, I still had plenty of fun reading their story. I hope other people do too.

Grouping the Miki Falls books together as I read them in one sitting!

I thought the Deliverers was a really cool concept which I wish we got to know more about. I did not love Miki and Hiro's relationship - it felt like it got deep soooo fast. Miki's determination to befriend Hiro was fun however.

I think Spring is the strongest title and then it devolves with each remaining title. I think I would've enjoyed this more as a young adult. Unfortunately, its simplicity in what could have been a great fleshed-out concept is too big for me to dismiss!

When I read a series of books -like this one, I tend to judge the series as a whole and at first I thought the way the others were going I was going to wind up being weird and boring! I was thinking that this series was just someone trying their hands on being a manga artist. But in the end I was wrong, this book, the last one, help redeemed some part of that for me!

In the first book I thought this guy has an unique way of drawing that he is putting to make his mangas different, distinctive! First off, he doesn't use a lot of blocks, his pictures tend to bleed together where most tend to have blocks on other blocks or over other pictures. Then the other was the art style itself, it was not all "anime-y" as most mangas try to do, even if it is NOT from Japan. So I liked that he was thinking outside the box on it!

The story, really I would of been happy just to jump into this one and be fine, being that some time has passed between each book. I mean look at the titles! Spring, Summer.... But to truly know how Miki felt and how powerful her love truly is you would have to read the whole thing.

There is where it got me! At first in book #1(Spring), I was like what the heck kind of story is this!? This guy, Hiro, gives and takes love away from people? And there is only a set amount of love in the world because it dies, NEVER to come back? I mean I can SEE were the writer got his idea came from with a world with more divorce rates then ever and people always leaving for something bigger and better sometimes leaving over something small. I mean I can see it but really? I never would of dreamed that one up! And prayed that the writer will redeem himself with this twist in the story. To my happiness he did and made me start to think about my own love/loveless life.

There is one part in book #3(Autumn) where Hiro talk about about the four different types of lovers. Sustainers, Wanderers, Selfers and Neverfinds. From the title of these I thought of myself as the first and last finding out that really Neverfinds are just a Sustainer that lost love and will never love again! <_< That hit me like a ton of bricks. And I think there is were I was really getting into the series wanting to know a bit more on this and hope that Miki would not be a Neverfind.

So here in book 4(Winter), we find these two still running away from the world so that they can love one another in peace. What makes this one so much better then the other three and makes me want to keep reading the pages again and again was that near the end you see her true power of love! I like the ending! I was so expecting somethings ells by the way the artist was leading it to be and if he did that I was thinking that he could create another series based off of that! He still can, but it is good were he left it. So for the RIPPING emotion that he brought back to me, the creativeness he brought to the art and the story I gave this book high marks!

Miki Falls Book 4 has the cutest ending ever! This series is so unique, although it does have a plot line similar to many other movies and books (girl loves boy, boy is mysterious, boy and girl can't be together, boy turns out to love girl too, then they run away together. -__-) but still, overall, the details in the books are different and original. The artistry is very beautiful also, with the historically accurate and intricate backgrounds and the facial expressions of the characters. The only major problem I had with this last book was the Goddess of Love; she was completely evil. She handed Miki a potion to forget everything that she went through, granted it would save her the pain, but it was prettty harsh. Yet even though she's supposed to support love, she gets extremely pissed that Miki won't take the potion and preserve her love, and goes all AWOL. Really? The goddess of love? Why would she discourage that? And the part about her standing there and listening to Miki's suggestion? That seemed highly improbable that she would listen to Miki after she practically had some devil-like hissy fit over the potion sitch. but other than that little odd scenario, the final manga in this series was a perfect wrap-up to Miki's story. The whole series played out like a movie and kept me interested. I enjoyed it a lot, but I would definitely only reccommend it to a younger audience, aged 12 to 15.
Happy reading!

MIKI FALLS: WINTER is the final volume in the four volume MIKI FALLS manga series. The story opens with Miki and Hiro camping out and on the run from the Deliverers, who are out to find them, since their relationship is against Deliverer rules.

Anra, Hiro's hold spirit, is leading Miki and Hiro on a path to Otaru, where they should be able to catch a boat to aid in their escape plan. But when it appears that Anra isn't listening to Hiro anymore and leading them straight into danger, Miki and Hiro aren't sure who to trust.

Will they be able to escape the danger that lies ahead? Will they get caught? And will they be able to stay together?

The MIKI FALLS series is one of my favorite manga series. Mark Crilley has created an enchanting story and his artwork is amazing -- when Miki and Hiro are freezing in the snow, you feel the cold along with them.

If you're a fan of manga, add this to your must-read pile. I don't want to say much more, because you really need to read it for yourself to discover the ending to this series. Mystery, romance, and magic all come together to make this an exciting conclusion!

An interesting ending to the series. Mother Freya pissed me off.
There was a moment, on page 62, where Hiro says: "I've done nothing to deserve that kind of devotion." (meaning, Miki ran away to be with him, suffered tremendous challenges and blah blah blah). Anyway, all I could think was: "You're completely right Hiro. You did absolutely nothing to qualify as worthy of that kind of devotion, in my books, and yet, Miki threw everything away to be with you." But my problem here isn't with Hiro; it's with Miki. Seriously, Miks. What in the heck did Hiro do except dodge you, be mysterious, let you in a little, get pissed, kiss you, then let you in for good?
So I guess what I'm trying to say is that I think my main problem with this series is that it's mainly about a "super deep and devoted relationship", when that relationship has absolutely no foundations. God. Damn. Stahp. STAHP.
Anyway, glad that's over. :| Good effort, Mr Crilley, but I know for a fact that you can do better, in the case of your artwork. I haven't read "Akiko", so I don't know where it stands plot-wise, but I'll look into reading your most recent endeavours.

This is the last in the series and just as enjoyable as the others before it. I was sad to reach the end! Again, wonderful art and a great storyline.

One thing I enjoy in series is the sense of fashion Mark Crilley gives his characters.

?? Page 58 - "I'll see if I can't get Saka-chan off his butt to fix ya some grub." I'm checking on this, isn't -chan an address for a female? Maybe it a joke about Saka.

Okay, the story is a bit "sappy," but the suspense keeps you intrigued. I think the end is a bit rushed, the voice of Akuzu doesn't come across with the force or expression to create the strong presence the character demands. The discussion doesn't make a strong inference, perhaps if there had been more of a sense of time before spring...

The Making of Miki Falls was fun - a worthy look and read for all "would be graphic novelist."

I enjoyed Mark's art the best in this volume, I really enjoyed the trip through the seasons and think it was perfect to end in Winter, I loved all the snow scenes!

This book also had the most "grit" and the most intense action scenes in my opinion and I was also pleased that there was a slight plot twist I was not expecting! A very nice ending to the series.

I am left with one unanswered thought.... what about Miki's parents/family? We never really hear about them and seems strange that none appear even when she is missing for so long and with her choice in the end. But that is definitely not a deal-breaker, just a small wondering I have - probably because I am a parent myself.

Thanks again Mark Crilley! I'm a new fan and can't wait to read more of your work!

What a great series. I am so glad I decided to reread the Miki Falls manga series by Mark Crilley. It felt like I was reading them for the first time, considering the last time I'd picked them up was years and years ago! It's a unique adventure telling the story of Miki and Hiro, and Hiro's mysterious life. It's full of humor, drama, romance, fantasy, and the tiniest bit of cheesiness! The art is fantastic. Mark Crilley has been an artistic inspiration to me for a long, long, time. I cannot wait to see what story he comes up with next. If you're looking for a wonderful, beautifully made, unique and exciting adventure, check out this series! It'll be worth your time! :)

Okay, overall this manga was...okay? The story line was alright, but...
The first three books.
IT GOT A LITTLE TOO BORING ALRIGHT
AS CUTE AS IT IS I MEAN
I HATED THE DUDE IN THE BEGINNING TBH
And I thought Miki was too needy and pushy lol oops
The ending was pretty decent though. I liked how the author wanted to put her as one too¿ (sorry, I'm trying not to include spoilers xD)
I wasn't sure if I liked the art either. I suppose I'm more used to the more-known-big-over exaggerated-eyes and etc
And well
I thought it was just a little TOO slow, my friend
Nice try though. UuuuuUuuuGggg I feel terrible for saying all this oops

Well, we finally get the know what happens to Miki in this final book of the series!

I liked the final adventure of Hiro and Miki, and what they went through to preserve their love. I think what the most surprising shock to me while reading was at the end. I completely thought that Miki had been separated from Hiro forever, and then he suddenly appeared next to Miki! That was a huge shock. But I loved the end: "I'm just a girl...who met a boy...and fell for him...completely."

Overall, I loved this series! A big THANK YOU goes to my BFF, Sara, who recommened this series to me!

Oh my goodness I hated Anra in he end but I guess I couldn't help it considering the fact that there WAS something off about her. I mean, EVIL!!! also, I felt like crying when Hiroshima stopped existing in the real world. I hated Anra the most for breaking Miki and Hiro apart. Mother Freya just ruined everything though when he/she said that it wasn't fate that brought them together. He/she brought them together!!! BUMMER!!!!! anyway, it was a good series and it was a fantastic book!!!

Peace, love, and happiness

This last book in the series was no disappointment. I loved every page. I wish there more like it out there--the novel-like quality of the writing, the soft, beautiful art, the lack of hyperbole in the characters' emotions... And also the fact that this delivers its story in 4 volumes, making it a more affordable journey to experience, and one that is easily read in one sitting. I'd recommend this series to anyone.

This whole series was not quite what I expected. It's a really cute love story, with less suspense than I hoped for (though this fourth book had plenty of it).

I felt like there was more text than there should've been--telling more than showing--but the art is FANTASTIC. And Mark Crilley has a great feel for how to use comic panels. I'll probably never write comics, but I feel like I learned a lot.

So sad that it's the last book in the series, it'll take a long time to hook up to a new one! The series was awesome and I find myself reading one again every time I go to the library! I like how this book was set in the mountains, and how the beginning was captivating. I love the last sentence! "I'm just a girl. Who met a boy. And fell for him. Completely" It kind of tells what went on in the series and book, and wraps up the whole story. I loved this manga series... it was my favorite yet!

I really wanted to like this series. I had heard very good things about it. However, I found all four graphic novels to be boring and had very little motivation to even finish the series.

The animation is pretty 85% of the time. To me, it read like a storyboard, which I guess you could say is how graphic novels are supposed to come off. However, It took me away from the story, more so than when I have read manga in the past.

Not my cup of tea.

LOVE IT!!!

I've been watching some of Mark Crilley's how to draw videos on YouTube and have wanted to get this series for a pretty long time. I'm really impressed with this book. The art work, as always is incredible, and the storytelling is excellent. Dispite the age of the characters, I would recommend this book to 5-8 graders. If you like manga, or any kind of art, this is a book you would NOT want to miss.

Miki and Hiro are on the run from the Deliverers and Akuzu, the powerful Elder who is determined to find Hiro and make an example out of him. Braving the elements and not knowing who to trust the two star-crossed lovers find out if a Deliverer can actually find love with a human.

A satisfying conclusion to a fabulous series! I loved every panel of this series from cover to cover.

The ending was a bit confusing because it didn't show the part where Miki became a deliverer... The art was not good but average enough to be made into a manga. The ending was not enough for me to be satisfied. I know many people agree with me, they are just too confused with the plot blending in with the art..
