Nothing mattered so long as she surrendered her soul to my demon and let him devour her.
Eight years ago, Alex told a lie that had far-reaching repercussions. This lie destroyed lives. This deception broke her and changed Rafe. His promising future was ripped away and he spent 8 years in prison for a crime he didn't commit. And now he's back, determined to mete out his vengeance and get his pound of flesh. He was coming for her.
This was certainly different from what I was expecting. I realized that there had to be some huge reason for Alex's lies, but it was much more than I bargained for. And while I sympathized with her, I couldn't excuse her for what she had done to a man who didn't deserve it. I may not have agreed with the way that Rafe went about getting his revenge, but I guess I understood. However, it wasn't as flawless as it should have been. He went from dark and cold and brutal one minute to a cuddling softie who cared about Alex's feelings the next. He lacked consistency, which made this story not as dark as it could have been. However, I was cool with that because the brief lapses in his violence gave him and Alex the opportunity to get to the truth and to forge an unbreakable bond. It allowed their love to blossom and flourish, despite the drama that surrounded them.
I was his, every frayed thread of my aching soul.
This story was definitely dark and desperate, with elements of suspense and eroticism to spice things up. I didn't know that book 4 wasn't the end of the story so I'll be buying the next book, Deviant, ASAP. This story was raw and gritty and sexy and depraved and I loved it!

If the line between love and hate is thin, then the lines between anger and lust -and- fear and lust are emaciated.
I didn't dislike this book, but it did leave me feeling senselessly jerked around, purposefully confused, and overloaded with secondary plots I didn't want or need.
The technical writing was fine.
2 1/2 stars.

I got the idea, the premise - he's depraved, capable of heartless shit, and still has the remnants a moral compass.
It's how the author pushed the conflict toward each other annoyed me and felt inauthentic.
He blames, kidnaps, & hurts her because she wronged him eight years ago. He had unimaginable shit happen to him in prison, which he claims unleashed a darkness that had always simmered below the surface. Okay.
But, does this sound like ^that^ man?
"Sorry," I mumbled, then shook my head because I had just apologized to a judgmental broad for simply standing in public. Fuck these people.
Would that dark, angry man cuddle her? Fall asleep with her and almost let her escape? Care if another man degraded her, too?
Basically, the shift between moments of locking her in a cage and leaving her for days in her own filth vs coddling her have no bridges, no moment where the salt and fresh water mix.
One minute he acts like he has feelings for her, empathizes with her, maybe forgives her, and the next ...

"What we shared was pure obsession, nothing more and nothing less, and it was the sweetest madness in hell.
All the above said, this is one of those dark books where you don't blame the MMC for any of his actions, or at least I didn't.

I didn't blame her either.
I felt for her situation. She's been taken advantage of in a way that's left her f'd up and full of self-hate. It's one of those books where you overlook what they've done to each other because you have someone else evil and vile to play villain.
Her stepbrother ruined their lives.
But, like the MMC, there are these huge personality jumps that just don't have any blend time or bridge to help the reader understand her.
She's frightened to death while she spends an equal amount of time sexually frustrated.
She doesn't want to die. She never pauses to think he could kill her in strangling and drowning her. She wants him to fuck her all rough and heavy handed. She's mad because he ruined their first time by strangling her. She wants to and tries to run away. She refuses to leave when told to go.
It's always these polar opposites with no middle work to get you from north to south poles.
Too Much Secondary Plot
The stepbrother, the prison sentence, the history of the relationships, and the current timeline of her being kidnapped IS ENOUGH.
Dissecting his last relationship before prison & the introduction of said OW into the plot line was the beginning of the end for me.
The prison buddy being there felt forced. Like the author had him there simply for the purpose of keeping readers wondering if he'd get in on the action or not.
The final straw was the end.
I feel the author should've skipped a lot of the secondary plot, like the ex OW, and focused on making us understand the FMC & MMC.
Bottom Line
I liked the way it started. By midpoint, I felt it just got too convoluted and wishy-washy by secondary plot. By the end, it was too cliche and soap opera for my tastes.
I like a mindfuck as well as the next gal, but I don't like to feel like every scene involves the author blindfolding me, spinning me, and telling me to hit the mofo donkey's ass.
For other readers...
I will say there aren't many "dark books" that successfully pull of justification and acceptance of the darker elements. This book does do that. So, those readers highly interested in that plot device may want to give this a go.
I got this as a box set on KU, but I think I'll pass the rest of this series by as just not delivering what I wanted how I wanted it.

Here's my review of each of these books:
TORRENT
**update** I decided to re-read this book before I read the others. Why? Because having read so many books after reading this I wanted it to be fresh in my mind. But blimey I engulfed this book. What an ending!! So looking forward to reading book 2.
Wow!!Why have I not read this authors books before. This book was absolutely brilliant. I read this book in one sitting. I seriously couldn't put it down or read it fast enough. My stomach was in bits reading this. This book will take you on a really dark and emotional rollercoster.
Be aware this is part of a series so there is a whopper of a cliffhanger. Hope we don't have to wait too long for more. I'm going to go look at this authors other books as this was fantastic.
**this is a new adult dark romance. This book includes disturbing themes and explicit content that includes sexual situations and violence.
RAMPANT
Oh wow this story totally pulled me apart. Although I enjoyed ( not sure enjoy is the correct word for this kinda story) this book I wasn't as shocked as I was with book one. Don't get me wrong. This book had all the omg, holy moly responses as book one. I think by book two I had realised this authors mind was corrupted and she had set out to corrupt my mind too.
What an ending. I'd be screaming at my kindle except I've already got the next book sitting waiting for me.
If your looking for a dark read get reading this series while I jump into book three.
FERVENT
In two days I've sat and read these three books ending with Fervent. I couldn't resist re-reading book one as this is a fantastic series.
Ok so im not gonna tell you anything about the storyline just in case you haven't read any of these books. Let me just say these are brilliant dark reads. There are so many twists you won't know what way to look.
I read this book in two hours. Yes I inhaled every word of it.
Cliffhangers. Yes I hate them. I thought I was on a roll as each book ended in a cliffhanger I jumped right into the next book, not realising that there is a book four. Face palm!! I need Vagrant now... Pretty please.
Brilliant series. So looking forward to book four.
VAGRANT
This is book four and the conclusion to Rafe and Alex's story. I really didn't want this book or series to end.
The storyline keeps up the fast paced grittiness that we got in the previous books. Rafe and Alex are still running from their past. Will they find peace and a happy ever after? Well you'll have to read to find out.
I absolutely loved and inhaled this book like I did with the previous books. It's certainly not for the faint hearted but I'm convinced my mind is totally warped from reading these books.. Lol
I thought the author wrote a great series and I'm really sad it's ended. My fingers are crossed she writes some more dark epicness:)!

The Condemned Series will captivate you from the first book sending you on an unimaginable wild and kinky ride you never thought possible. It's dark, intense, twisted and so sinfully delicious.
Gemma James has beautifully written a magnificent masterpiece that will blow your mind! Unexpected events will have your heart racing. The kink will drag you into a yummy darkness you never knew existed.
I strongly recommend this series!

The plot in this thing is like a hamster wheel.
The female protagonist seems to be stuck. While she is a decent character, she hasn’t evolved much through four books. As a result, the conflict between the couple is the same over and over and over, despite the male protagonist’s growth.
The naughty stuff is pretty hot. I wish Rafe and Jax would have some kind of get together.

Get into the mindset of one of the darkest, cruelest series out on the market today. Known for her wicked scenarios and sinister plot-twists, Gemma James can be categorized with other dark romance authors such as Aleatha Romig and Pepper Winters. The Condemned Series, which features all four books; Torrent, Rampant, Fervent and Vagrant, are mind numbing to say the least. Best categorized as dark deliciousness that torments your brain, figuring out what’s up and what's down.
“He made me fly. He made me feel alive.”
Through all 4 books we follow Rafe and Alex, but along the way we pick up Jax, Zack and Lucas. Just when you think all is well, the road to freedom is smooth; fate turns Rafe and Alex’s world upside down spinning them out of control. Alex is a very strong, dysfunctional, naïve, messed up heroine. She is thrown from one hell to another in the matter from one book to another. Rafe hasn’t had an easy past decade and he’s ready to exact revenge, his journey however is derailed on multiple obstacles, but the demon that lays inside of him is bursting at the seams to surface. Holy Moly! He is one Alpha hotness piece of male, but his inner darkness is not something I would care for.
“How ironic that the guy who loved me most ended up being the one to break me to pieces.”
Can Rafe and Alex get their so called HEA or will their messed up ‘normal’ always be surrounded in darkness?
There were multiple times where I had to walk away from this series due to certain aspects, but Gemma compels you, whispers to you to finish the story. She sucks you back into her masterpiece of darkness and sinister world and she spits you back out when you least expect it! She warns you ahead of time and I would heed her warning on the criteria of these books. If you are squeamish against violence and rape scenarios towards a female, kidnapping, etc. then this series is not for you.
Gemma James is an excellent and talented dark romance author whom I love and I highly recommend all to consume her work.

It took me a week to read this series.... Not because I didn’t have time to read, but because it was so dark and disturbing I needed to stop at times to give my self a day or two to recover. There is so much brutality and disturbances, rape, beating and self inflicting pain. I couldn’t stop reading it because I wanted to know what happens to the main characters, I wanted to see what IS their happy ending....... This book is definitely not for the soft of hearts, you need to be able to stomach all that is happening, and man there is a lot happening.

I have never been a victim of incest nor have I been raped or physically abused. With that being said, these books really bothered me. This woman has no life of her own from beginning til the end. Not my type of read.

Fantastic series all around!
I'm glad I bought the box set because once you get started you're not going to want to stop until the end. There are dark and disturbing scenes throughout the series and some readers might not be comfortable but if you're looking for dark romances this will hit the mark.

50 Shades plus 100
If you read the Fifty Shades of Grey series and liked it,which I did,then you may be expecting this book to be similar by its description. I will tell you that be prepared if there were any
parts of Fifty Shades of Grey that you had trouble reading without feeling a little nauseous,then back up and skip this book. This series has a lot more descriptive scenes of what I would say is BDSM but the characters,Rafe and Alex never give that definition to their relationship. To me the book was more extreme than Fifty Shades. The explicit scenes I could handle,that's not the whole reason for the 2 stars. I rated it that low because although I thought the description of the characters,Rafe and Alex were extremely good,the book went into too much drama. You expect some drama or obstacle between the characters in a romance but this book was just one after another. It was enough for just the first obstacle of Rafe being in jail for 8 years at the cause of Alex and what made her do it. Then another tragic situation,then another,it was too much and I kept thinking to myself just stop and get to the end if they are going to be together or not. Just to extreme on sexual level and dragging one drama after another

Ok... Ok... Calm the fuck down... Deep breaths... in... out... in... out... This book took my breath away... it sucked the oxygen right out of my lungs and replaced it with cement! It carved my heart out with a spoon and hand fed it back to me! It's dreadfully dark and ever so cruel and it chewed me up and spit me out! Thank God you recommended this onePam Godwin! I'm gonna kick your ass... I mean kiss you next time I see you! Seriously, this book is fanfuckingtastic in it's own dark and chilling sort of way. She goes from one hell to the next and almost by choice if you ask me! I know she's guilt ridden and needs to purge herself of her sins, but she seemed way to laid back for me. Damn, you kidnap me, rape me, beat me... I'm gonna hate your ass and dream of ways to kill you slowly. Not Alex De Luca.... she went back for more. She craved more. She required more to feed her insatiable appetite for destruction! When her walls begin to crumble and her insides feel like they may implode she does the unthinkable, she falls in love, but don't let that mislead you... this is not your typical brand of love. It's so much more! She has burrowed inside my heart and that is where she'll stay until I feel the need to purge her from my system!
Now, Rafe... Oh My Effing God Rafe! I loved him from hello! He's irate, he's attractive, he's built like a brick shithouse, and he's one of the hottest pieces of ass I've read in a long long time. AND he's got tattoos... and lots of them. I know I'm shallow, but hell a girls gotta have dreams! Ok... now Rafe! He's out of prison and on the warpath. He's out for blood or more importantly pussy and he isn't taking no for an answer. I love how controlling he is and how he gives what he thinks he got and all this time he's been thriving on a lie. A lie has been fueling his rage, his need to bestow hurt upon the one who bestowed it upon him. He is also a permanent fixture in my heart and will linger in there while I still draw breath!
Great supporting character cast. That cellmate, Jax... wow... I love his candor and his demeanor. He seems to be so laid back yet on high alert at all times. It would be nice to see him get a little book of his own. (*wink wink) Now that miserable, mutha effin' step brother Zach. That piece of shit can rot in hell for all I care. That guy is evil with a capitol E. However, his evilness is what makes this tale that much richer. What would a fucked up, filthy, terrifying story be without an excellent villain. Zach is it!
To wrap this up, it's provocative, it's terrorizing, and it's brilliant. It was so gripping that I could not put it down for the life of me! The characters were so powerful and the storyline so profound and tragic that I'm sure it'll take me months to find another book that will even come close to this one. The dialogue flows with simplicity and feels exceedingly natural. The pacing is perfect, fast in fact, which I appreciate as I couldn't get submerged into this one fast enough. It's a very dark read and not for the faint of heart. Beware! I loved it and will be telling you all about it's continuation, Rampant very soon.

Well, I'd like to tell you that I took a breather betweenTorrent and Rampant, so if you consider the 1 minute and 45 seconds it took me to find and download Rampant a breather, than good... I took a breather! Torrent ended on a cliffhanger and I'm not just saying I reached the cliff and freaked out... I'm saying I reached that cliff, fell off, and landed in a ravine of sharpened knives! The only way to save myself was to dive my ass right into Rampant and never look back! So be it!
Alex is an absolute mess. I'm an absolute mess! From the safety of the prison she knew and craved to the trunk of a car and a new prison not so welcoming. Holy fucking hell! My mind is reeling. I don't even know what to think let alone feel! It has to be said that this chick is tough as nails. She's my hero in every way, shape, and form. I love that she may be afraid, but never shows it. She never lets on that she might be freaking way the fuck out! She looks upon the devil and laughs in his face. Any ordinary person would have cracked by now. I know I would have! When she finally surrenders to her sadness and grief it nearly killed me. I wanted to scream till my lungs gave out.. NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! I almost had to put the book down... almost! I'm not sure I can go on... I'm not sure I want to go on... please Gemma make it stop!
Now Rafe, well he's probably just as fucked up as Alex, if not more. His story is like an emotional roller coaster that you can't seem to get off! He's good, he's bad, he's hot, he's cold. So, what do you do when you can't remember the last 8 years of your life? I'll tell you what you do... go lock yourself in a cage in your basement and sit there till it all comes back to you!! This would be one of those times I wanna fuck him... I felt so much sadness for Rafe. So many things going on and so much turmoil and angst that I fear my heart will never be the same. I can't say much more because as usual, this is another cliffhanger and I'm not sure what to say about that!
The supporting character cast is pretty much the same... Jax the cellmate (love him), Nikki the ex-girlfriend (not sure where this is going), That evil bastard Zach, and the Father. Wow, the Father played a bigger role in this one and I have to say, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. I don't know where this story is headed in the third installment, but what I do know is my nails are eatin' down to the nubs, my hair is being pulled out, and I've went through my monthly supply of chocolate in one week. Gemma James you have rocked my world with your Condemned Series and I'm fairly certain I'm gonna need more chocolate and a twelve pack of beer for the next one!
As always this book was impeccably written. It's full to the rim with torment, chaos, and sorrow! I seriously need to check myself as I'm not sure I'm the same person that went into these books, but I will say this, I am patiently waiting on the third installment and when I say patiently, I mean... Well, I'd like to tell you that this was wrapped up in a pretty little nutshell... BUT I CAN'T!!! I can't even hardly breathe after this mayhem and bedlam. Gemma does an bang up job of sucking your ass in (AGAIN), chewing you up, and spitting you out so your insides are like a pile a goo! Rafe and Alex's story is one of havoc, turmoil, and disorder, but rest assured, Gemma just needs to drag us through the mud a little while longer before she concludes this dreadful tale.
Rafe is still suffering memory loss and I'm fairly certain I wanna kick him in the head until it comes back. I'm not saying that I don't like the Rafe that's kinder and gentler, but I do (with all my nasty tainted heart) miss that sinister and destructive Rafe that wants to hurt Alex (in a good way) and in turn hurt me! Ahhhh... so good!! Rafe is faced with so many hindrances in this book not only for himself but for Alex. What will he do? How will he save himself this time and more importantly, how will he save Alex from herself? So many questions, so little time.
Alex is one tough cookie. Rapes, beatings, and torture are just scratching the surface of what she needs to deal with. Death almost seems like a welcome mat in her world! I cringed every time I saw "Alex" at the top of the chapter heading. I knew some bad shit was coming down the pike and I wasn't sure my soul could handle anymore. This girl would sell her soul to the devil before she'd ever give up on Rafe. Now that's love people.
The supporting character cast in this book is mostly made up of villains and creepy people. Not really sure I wanna mention any names cause that would give some good shit away... but know this... People are not who you think they are... So many faces on one person. So, much hatred and disgust emanating off our villains in waves. So much death, so much pain, and so many shocking revelations that I am biting my fingernails down to the bone until Gemma gives me that last installment so pleasantly titled Vagrant!
This was fast paced with dialogue that even made me blush. The main characters have become a part of me and therefore their every move and each word has become my main concern. Fervent is dark and disturbing. You won't want to put it down till you've uttered it's last words. Trust me... I chain smoked, I drank on a weekday, and I ate tons of chocolate to get me through this one! Bravo Gemma, you seem to know right where to hit me!! Muah... I loved it!

Sooooo... This is it! This is the end of an era! I loved it, I hated it, and I wanted to start the series all over again! God help me, but I'm a dirty, filthy whore who can't get enough of this tale of woe and despair. This is the fourth and FINAL installment of the Condemned series and I feel like a part of me will forever be left on the pages of this invigorating tale. Gemma James is the instigator behind this chilling story and she's perfected the cringe worthy dialogue to a tee!
Rafe... God, Rafe! He's gone, he's back, and he's mean as ever! I knew he'd be back. How in the world was he ever going to stay away from his one true love? Some would say that's fighting, but we know better, don't we? I like this new and improved Rafe... the memory is back, "The Choker" is on his game, and this time he's got a plan. It may be a totally fucked up plan, but at least this time he has one! Hells Bells I love this man!
Now our beautifully broken Alex isn't so broken anymore. She's done some major growing up since Fervent. She seems more sensible... more wise... and.. well.. normal! Don't get me wrong, she's still pretty fucked up, but I think her head is in a better place now. The hairs on the back of my neck still stand on end when Rafe orders her around and punishes her, but I'd be lying if I didn't admit to waking my hubs up in the middle of the night for a little "face down ass up" after reading that punishment scene! Holy fucking HOT!!!!
Again, as usual, this is a "can't put down" kinda book. It's tragic, it's comical, and it's still astonishing. Rafe and Alex are like a part of me that I will never surrender. All their damage, all their pain, and all the blood, sweat, and tears I'd take all over again if it meant that I could read this for the first time, one more time. Well, it's definitely one of the best conclusion I've read in a really long time. It had the perfect build up and the characters (lead and supporting) were fantastically horrifying and realistic. Gemma's writing style is one of the best in the business and I'd be lying if I didn't say that I laughed though tears and had mini heart attacks while engulfed in this incredible story. I love your word girl. I love your characters. AND I love you!!!

After having read this, I can only come to one conclusion. Gemma James hates her characters and lives to torture them. Maybe at some point in her life, a couple of people named Rafe and Alex done Gemma wrong, and this is her revenge. If so, remind me never to piss her off, because I'd hate to see what she did to me. That being said, I'm pretty sure that there is something wrong with me because I liked reading everything that Gemma James did to her poor characters. Maybe I subconsciously hate them? Whatever the reason for it is, I devoured the book and need to read more.
It's important to note that this is a boxset of the first 4 books, and that there are more that come after. It's a serialized book, so each section isn't overly long.
When Alex was 15, she sent the man she loved to jail. He testified that he raped her, even if he didn't. She had a very good reason to do so, she was forced by her family. Her step-brother, Zach, had raped her and told her that he would kill Rafe if she told anyone that he hadn't hurt her and that Zach had really done it. She's spent the last 8 years in her own living hell. Zach sees her as his own personal playground and has continued to rape her. Her body has been conditioned to like what he does to her, but her mind won't let it go.
After 8 years in prison for a crime he didn't commit, Rafe is finally free. But he has plans for little Miss Alex. Plans that she's not going to like. He's going to get his own back and find out why she lied about him all those years ago. He has dark, deviant plans that involve a cage in his cellar of a secluded cabin in the woods on an island in a river. Since Alex has a serious phobia about water, he knows that she's not going to try to escape.
Rafe comes to Alex's house to find that she's getting ready to leave. She's finally decided that she can't be around Zach anymore. It's finally gotten enough to her that she just can't do it anymore. She's engaged to be married to a man that she doesn't love, her crazy, possessive step-brother keeps raping her and he's trying to keep her from marrying the man that her father wants her to. She just can't be there anymore. So, Rafe shows up at just the right time. He drugs her, stages her death, and takes her away.
I can't go much further into the later books because anything I say about them will ruin the first part and then all the books after. But, it's important to know that this is the basis of everything that happens in the book.
Every time things look like they will be getting better, something terrible happens. They never really seem to have more than a moment of happiness before some shadowy figure is willing to beat them, torture them, rape them, or kill them. Or all of the above. Rafe and Alex never really know who to trust because all sorts of things happen and it seems like everyone else wants to lie to them. I'm not joking when I say that Gemma hates them.
But, I loved reading the books and watching how Rafe and Alex start to work together and start to heal. They are both profoundly broken people who have had terrible things happen to them. It's interesting watching how they heal themselves and how they manage to heal each other and how each one of them works on gaining control over what they can. Rafe is very much a Dom and sadist and Alex is very much a sub and masochistic pain slut, so the level of control that each has varies, depending on their dynamic. But, it works for them.
I am looking forward to reading the next one ASAP.

They never really seem to have more than a moment of happiness before some shadowy figure is willing to beat them, torture them, rape them, or kill them. Or all of the above. Rafe and Alex never really know who to trust because all sorts of things happen and it seems like everyone else wants to lie to them. I'm not joking when I say that Gemma hates them.
But, I loved reading the books and watching how Rafe and Alex start to work together and start to heal. They are both profoundly broken people who have had terrible things happen to them. It's interesting watching how they heal themselves and how they manage to heal each other and how each one of them works on gaining control over what they can. Rafe is very much a Dom and sadist and Alex is very much a sub and masochistic pain slut, so the level of control that each has varies, depending on their dynamic. But, it works for them.
I am looking forward to reading the next one ASAP.

I will warn you that this series has a subject that might be hurtful to most people. Condemned series is not just for any one because jeez the subject matter even made me feel a little sick at times.
Despite my feelings about the subject I simply could not put the series down without finding out what happens next.
I am not sure where to begin with this review besides shouting " Holy Hell". I wish I was organized enough and took notes while reading. I would have loved to give a little bit of thought for each book however the story consumed me and the pages all blended together. I was like a mad woman on a mission to finish this story ASAP!!!

The story revolves around Alex and Rafe. Rafe is Alex's brother best friend. Something goes down that changes the course of their lives and thus having Alex kidnap.
I really do not want to say too much about this box set without giving away anything. Just know that you are going to either hate these stories or love it really hard.
If you are looking for a story line with twists, turns, betrayal, hot as hell sex scenes but most of all a love story lingering in the dark then this book is for you.

Wow what a roller-coaster ride. First off Alex has been through hell and back since age 13teen by not only her mother traumatic death but her own brother will step brother repeatedly raping her and abusing her. Where this poor 15 year old whether she knew right from wrong was so messed up in the head she was frightened of her brother and tormented that she lied and put a man she loved in jail. He only cared for Alex. Rafe in jail for 8 years did nothing but plot revenge against Alex for why she did what she did. unfortunately during the time of his sentence he was raped repeatedly. I don't know how to read this book I was so conflicted chapter by chapter of the abuse this girl Alex endured. Zach her brother put her through hell and her stepfather new and did the same to her. Then the man she loved Rafe does the same things to her, he humiliates her and hurts her. Yet for some reason she enjoys it and stays with him and wants to be with him. I meant I couldn't put down this book and had me captivated to read every chapter. I'm really at odds about this book. I do understand some people can be so messed up that this is what they crave. I just don't see how Alex could allow this to continue especially a relationship that is so toxic. I can say that I recommend reading it it is a very strong emotional read but it really had me at the end saying why.

A twisted dark gem filled to the brim with delicious wrongness that had my little black heart reeling!! Emotional, erotic, enticing, and intoxicating! Head over heels for this series from page 1!!!
Rampant Book 2: 5 Stars
Takes you in its clutches and won't release you unchanged. Not for the faint of heart, pushing limits all over the place, and that's what kept me transfixed. It reaches deep into the character's personalities and keeps you entranced by their every move. It made me cringe, but I couldn't look away. Real, gritty, raw, addictive!!!
Fervent Book 3: 4 Stars
Completely unhinged and twisted!!! This couple is crazily damaged and the Author ups the ante in this installment. Absolutely a heart pounding ride filled with deranged, dark goodness filled with betrayal, revenge, and dirty goodness!!
Vagrant Book 4: 4 Stars
A culmination of all that happened in the first three books, but not as explosive I'm sad to say. While this couple still burned up my kindle with their dark deliciousness, pushing limits and breaking their own barriers, it felt as if something was missing. While I still enjoyed it, it seemed to veer more into the emotions of the couple rather than tying up loose ends, which was ok. Still an amazingly dark and twisted series that will remain with me for a long time!!!

A bit dark with a touch of taboo - just how I like it! Alex's abuse by her step-brother seems to have a domino affect in her life in the most negative of ways. When Rafe (the one thing that she can't forgive herself for) shows up at her door it's both a blessing and a curse; both are damaged and twisted and are actually perfect for each other. Ends in a cliffy!
Rampant - Book 2
Loving this series! If you like a dark read that's intense, disturbing, twisted, kinky and all the above then you'll love this book (series). Just when you think that Rafe and Alex have their relationship figured out, the person that Alex hates and fears the most turns everything upside down. Ends in a cliffy!
Fervent - Book 3
Wow I sure didn't see this coming, what a mind trip! Great book!
Vagrant - Book 4
Boy what a ride this book took you on. I absolutely loved Rafe and Alex and their kinky and twisted relationship. While overall this story was great, I felt there were some discrepancies in this story, I could have sworn before Rafe lost his memory that Alex told him all about the things that Zach did to her and it was confusing that Alex kept pushing Rafe to open up to tell her what happened to him in prison that caused his nightmares...either way, great book!

Good book
Rafe and Alex's story is not your usual HEA erotic book. I read the 4 books and each one had Alex kidnapped, which was slightly surreal and unlucky. The twosome overcome some rather difficult situations and still seem to love each other. There are uncomfortable scenes (rape, torture, imprisonment, sex trafficking, forced drug taking, murder etc..) that flow in with the Rafe and Alex romance. I read the books in one sitting, as I was curious to know what happened next, even if it made me feel queasy. Good one GJ for keeping me engaged.
It's a 5 stars, as I kept interested. I liked this format of reading the four books together and I liked the ending of book 4, so it's unlikely I will read anymore in the series. I'm not sure I would have persisted with the individual novels.

I loved reading this series even tho it was darker than I usually like. I still couldn't stop reading until I had read the whole 4 books! All threw the series the love shone down and all the bad stuff Rafe and Alex went through seemed to make them stronger and although it was sometimes hard to keep reading I had to know how it all ended for them. Well done Gemma you keep writing and I'll keep reading! I recommend this author to anyone looking for something to read that keeps you reading until the end. Now im off to read the next installment!

I have read dark and gritty stories but this series tops all. This is like being on a roller coaster ride through a dark tunnel....unbelievable. There is grit, angst, guilt, punishment, betrayal and not to forget emotional. Rafe and Alex are two broken people who have an obsessive attraction to each other and the journey they travel on will leave you reeling. Freakin' loved this series. Could not put it down.

Wow - am I glad I read this in a boxed set! The cliffy after the first part made my jaw hit the floor, so I was more than thankful I could just continue right on with the story. This is not a fluffy rom-com, so take the author's warning seriously. This is dark, you don't always know who the good guys are, and the brilliant writing will keep you on the edge of your seat glued to your kindle. I loved, loved, loved this story!

Four Tortured Souls
Gemma James writes very achingly intense characters from whom she extracts massive amounts of emotional, and sometimes physical, suffering. The interactions between the four main characters ran the gamut of feelings, for them and for the reader! In the end, I found myself rooting for Jax, and even ZACK, to get their own ultimately fulfilling relationships and happy ever afters!

Love Condemned series!!!! This is my first read from Gemma James and I absolutely love it. This is a dark story, hot sexy and steamy, but it is not for the faint of a heart.
It might be little to much for some readers, so if you are looking for hearts and flowers you might want to skip it. Everyone that is looking for great dar read, this is it.

I loved both the stories and the characters. Dark, gritty, edgy, filled with everything you need in a good book, plus so much more. It will keep you on the edge, and not let you go. This was a cover to cover non-stop read for me. I can't wait to read more from this author.
