Wow! What a great read!! This super informational book on snakes is such a good resource for the budding herpetologist. This book covers everything from a snake's habitat, diet, description, and anything else you could possibly imagine! I love how each page shows a new snake, which have been beautifully illustrated to boot. They also have each snake individually labeled too, so that way your reader can learn each of the different species. This book packed full of quality information. I could easily see this being used as a resource on a 4th or 5th grader's science project. While a great book, I would say it might be too advanced for the K-2 range. It uses a lot of great science terms that might be too hard for younger readers to understand. My only complaint with the book is that there is a page where they are going over different snake facts, and they have what looks like a green anaconda, but is labeled as a gaboon viper. A small issue, but an issue none the less. I think this is a great book to have on your classroom shelf, and I am excited to look for other books in this series.
For ages 4-8 years, this nonfiction science picture book has realistic drawings of various kinds of snakes and plenty of facts about snakes, but does not touch on the safety factor which for this age group seems to be very important.
