Biscuit, star of the best-selling My First I Can Read Books Biscuit and Biscuit Finds a Friend, debuts in his first two picture books! The world of this adorable and mischievous puppy is one preschoolers are eager to enter and quick to recognize as their own. Author and illustrator team Alyssa Satin Capucilli and Pat Schories present appealing stories perfectly attuned to the interests and funny bones of young children. In these two books, fans learn how Biscuit got his name and what happens when his young owner has a party and forgets to invite Biscuit!
Alyssa Satin Capucilli was born in Brooklyn, New York, in 1957. She graduated from Sarah Lawrence College, and pursued her interest in dance, becoming a professional dancer and dance instructor. Though Capucilli had written stories, poems, and even puppet shows as a child, she didn't consider a career as a writer until after her own two children were born. To this day she sees herself as both a dancer and a writer, and the two professions complement each other nicely: dancing is, in her words, “telling stories in another way,” and readers of her children's books can attest to the rhythm of her language. Since 1994, she has written more than 15 books for children, and her work has been translated into French, Hebrew, Afrikaans, Greek, and Bulgarian.
Capucilli lives in Hastings-on-Hudson, New York, with her husband and children. They have a chocolate Labrador retriever named Huckleberry, who likes to watch the author at work.
SUPER FAST REVIEW: Awww! A Biscuit prequel! So the story is cute, the art is wonderful and it is pretty humorous for sure. A bit predictable being a prequel book and all (well and because the main thing is trying to find a name for the puppy so... I mean... yeah) but mostly it’s a very nice, cute read especially if you’re like me and read picture books to your dog. Recommended!
Summary: A little girl talks about her experiences with her puppy. She talks about his biscuits and him woofing. Throughout the text she talks to the puppy.
Text and image: The images match up with the text. The images are beautiful.
Get ready for an adventure with one of the cutest puppies out there! Hello Biscuit! by Alyssa Satin Capucilli, is about a little girl who gets a new puppy and is trying to figure out what to name it. While she is trying to figure out a name for her puppy, she notices her puppy getting into all of the dog biscuits. No matter what she does, she seems to find her little puppy getting into the dog biscuits. Since the puppy’s such a biscuit lover, she names her puppy biscuit! Looks like the puppy came up with it’s own name.
The Illustrations, done by Pat Schories, are very simple and detailed. They clearly help tell the story along with the wording about this curious little puppy. Whether your getting a new animal addition to your family, or simply want a cute story of how a puppy gets his name, this book is a fun book for children of all ages.
These books are meant for PreK-K, 1-2. I personally would not push this book in a 1st or 2nd grade classroom. I feel like if the student may need it for practice then I would recommend it but otherwise I feel like it would be more of a fun read they could just read when they are done with work early. It seems a little easy to be in 2nd grade for me personally since I have seen many kindergarteners mastering this book. The illustrations are adorable and I know children love this book so that is why I decided to read it for this evaluation. I personally didn't like it but I understand why students would enjoy it. This story goes through how Biscuit got his name so for these older ages, I would recommend Alma and How She Got Her Name instead for a similar story.
I'm giving this book 5 stars, not only because it is adorable, but because it was my first book to ever read! I remembered every word to it, and it will always be one of my favorite books!
The title in which Biscuit, popular character of easy readers, is introduced. Both childen loved this story about his addition to the family and how he got his name.
