Kelly Larkin has no plans to marry again. When police Officer Tate Baker shows up at her door with her runaway daughter, she is surprised the officer is a man she once loved. A man who she wouldn’t mind pursuing but doesn’t dare. After all, she can’t risk losing her daughter forever. Tate Baker can’t believe the mother of the troubled pre-teen girl is the woman who stole his heart years ago. When he discovers Kelly Larkin is single, he is determined to win not only her heart but her daughter’s as well. Only problem is, Kelly isn’t interested in marrying again. Can he change her mind? Or is he dreaming the impossible?
It’s a cute story, but it’s very predictable. On top of that, the words are understandable but the prose has a tendency to being wooden, and the punctuation looks more like a spellcheck suggestion than an editor’s work. Also, multiple inconsistencies that make the girl, Angie, sound like she’s anywhere from six to fifteen (such as her wanting to be carried at the tree farm because her legs are too short to keep up...and she’s twelve?) so she just missed being adorable.
But it was a cute read and Tate and Kelly make a sweet couple. A good story to get in the mood for Christmas, somewhat along the lines of the average Hallmark special.
I read about 2/3 of the story before I couldn't stand to read another word. The plot was poorly developed and juvenile. The dialog was stilted. The 12-tear old daughter, Angie, was a rebellious teen one minute and acted like a 7-year old the next. Her dialog was annoying and unbelievable. Sorry, but this is not a good book.
