Still haunted by nightmares about Sarah, Chase leaves the Earth Alliance and discards both Aphroditis and Ares’ counsel in his quest for revenge. He falls into a dangerous dark pit of hatred, sorrow and regret which consumes his soul with every passing moment.
In the meantime, the Earth Alliance, now equipped with better technology, is winning most of its battles against the Zarlack forces, while the Obsidian Empire enters into talks to join the Alliance, their once mortal enemies.
When Argos finds the hiding place of the Olympians and decides to strike, he reappears on Chase’s radar. Blinded by rage and fully determined to unleash the full brunt of his vengeance upon Argos, Chase teams up with Keera, a sexy bounty hunter, to hunt him down with only one purpose in mind: to end his life once and for all.
But nothing is really as it seems and Chase’s life is again about to be turned upside down.
Aided by an abundance of Sci-Fi characters with supernatural powers, Bestselling Sci-Fi author Christian Kallias has a secret. He lives two lives. One in the real world and one inside his own creations, in worlds where he can lay down the foundation of his universes for both his and your enjoyment. Guess which one he prefers?
Christian Kallias is the bestselling author of the award-winning Universe in Flames Space Opera series.
Christina Kallias is so very talented when it comes to writing Space Operas. I've recently started to follow Christian's Universe in flames series of books, let me start by saying I am a 58yr old female, who adores Sci-Fi/Fantasy, and, until I came across Christian's series of books, I was a prolific reader of Andre Norton, Joseph Delaney and some others. Christian is a close second to Alice in my opinion. The third book in the series 'Destination Oblivion' the continuing saga of Chase and friends from the Alliance and Earth, battling to save Planet Earth from foes so dangerous, that Earth and its inhabitants are in danger of being destroyed. Christian's talent, in my opinion, lies in his ability to take the reader to a realistic landscape, it's a story of the safety of humanity and what may come to pass if we don't act to protect and care for Gaia. There's just enough interestingly clever technology, it entwines and runs with the story, keeping the story interesting, but doesn't bore you waiting for the long techie bit to finish lol! Destination Oblivion is very highly recommended, can't wait to start to read book four 'The beginning of the end'.
I’m getting tired of this series. It’s really getting childish and not very exciting or interesting. This is the series where there is this one guy and his twin brother who are some kind of supermen, Furies to be exact. They're aliens, but humanoid and look just like Earth humans. One of them doesn’t remember anything about his life more than 10 years ago. He was a member of the new Earth Alliance who are trying to save Earth from destruction at the hands of the Zarlacks. The Zarlacks are working for Chase’s brother, Argos, who is absolutely power-hungry crazy. In the previous book, Chase was led to believe that he killed his one true love, Sarah, while she was under the control of Argos and threatening to destroy the Earth. So, he’s definitely gone off the deep end in his quest for vengeance against Argos. Only, things are as they seem.
So, the Earth still gets attacked by the Zarlacks since Chase is gone after Sarah or Argos and his friends, all members of the Earth Alliance take off after him. The Zarlacks kill many millions of humans leveling three major metropolitan areas with suicide ships that crash into the Earth or purpose. Chase doesn’t care. All he wants is his Sarah back. So this former starfighter jock is drowning in his own sorrows because he lost his girl friend. This is the same guy that swore an oath to protect and defend the Earth as part of the Earth Alliance. Pretty selfish idiot if you ask me. His friends are all the same. They go running after him and ignore the Earth that they were sworn to defend. It also happens that Chase and his brother, Argos, do come back to Earth only to start fighting some where near Tokyo. Now here’s were it gets really silly. These two guys have some kind of super powers that let them fly, throw fire balls, and punch like the Hulk! They can also control things with their minds and usually wind up throwing these things at each other. Neither can really die unless they use up all their energy and are squashed or something. So, they start fighting and just about flatten Tokyo, killing another million or so people without even thinking about it. Some real hero this guy Chase is and he’s supposed to be the good guy.
There’s also this nonsense with the Olympians. We have Aphroditis (that’s the way it’s spelled in the book) and she’s got the huge crush on Chase, but noone wants to admit it, otherwise, there’s absolutely no reason for the Olympians to be helping Chase. In fact, only Aphroditis and Ares are the only Olympians who are trying to help Chase. They are outcasts from the Olympians society since the Olympians are far, far more advanced than humans. Yeah, the Olympians are just another group of aliens who occasionally mess with Earth when it suits their fancy. Zeus believes humans are not worth helping any more because they’re too dumb to stop fighting each other and everyone else! He has a point.
And then we find out about this artificial intelligence that has been accidentally created when the alien Alliance that Chase is part of, interfaced with Earth’s Internet. They find out this AI is quite mad at humans for almost destroying the planet and threatens to just wipe them all out. She calls herself, “Gaia” which is another Greek mythology term for Earth. This is all getting a little too stupid for me.
I think there will be other books in this series, but I’m moving on. Chase and his brother, Argos have defeated a Titan which is almost impossible for a human and that ended the story for me.
Well, I finished Book 3. For me, Book 1 was solid and Book 2 was decent. When I started Book 3, it was light reading: As in – I was going through the motions, reading a few pages here and there. But, after I made a dent in the continuance, it, and I, picked up steam. The ‘lull’ was over and the last 60-75% of the book kept up a brisk pace.
This is pure Space Opera. There are undercurrents of Good v Evil; The Force; Superman-esq-ish, tree-hugging, and philosophical considerations around Artificial Intelligence. In all – fun. If you’ve read 1 and 2 you know that there is still hope for Chase. Yeah, he bugged out, but don’t worry – his friends are ready to fight for him.
It is hard to write about a book series without giving too much away or summarizing what should already be known. If you are here by accident – don’t start the story here :)
3.7 of 5 stars for me. I’m not sure if I will continue the series, but I’m not opposed to the idea.
I loved how the storyline and characters played out in Destination Oblivion Book 3 of Universe in Flames. I was intrigued with the introduction of the AI, Gaia and the interactions she had with Spiros. Christian Kallias continues to do an amazing job in the development of the characters and their journeys. I especially like the character, Tar'Lock, as he can be funny and unassuming at times. I'm also looking forward to reading the next books to see if there is a relationship development between Daniel and Fillio.
Chase, the main character, definitely has a lot going on in his life and the interactions and relationship with his brother, Argos, continues to be both exciting and mysterious.
Destination Oblivion is the third book in the Universe In Flames series. While you could read this as a standalone book, I don't recommend that. There is a lot of violence. The premise of the book is interesting. The author weaves a military SciFi story with Greek mythology and the "ultimate evil" working behind the scenes. I'm curious to see where this series goes.
I really struggled getting through this book, way too much dialog. Crap they talk about everything. I found myself skimming chapter after chapter just to move the story along. I have the next book in the series but I doubt I'll read it. I really liked the idea of this series but it feels like chapters are stretched to books and it has made reading this just too tedious for me.
I have read all three books so far. And started on book four. I had to come back though, to give a rating. I know writers depend on ratings. And these are great books! Start from the beginning though, you won't be sorry...if you like a good space opera, because these characters and the storyline is going to make you happy.
An entertaining sci-fi story. Action packed with constant twists and turns, all powerful aliens, ancient gods, super powers and the return of an ancient terror. Epic in scale, well written with strong engaging characters. I am already reading the next one. Highly recommended.
Why do people ruin a very good story with PC nagging. Had a whole diatribe thought out but its not worth it. I mean humanity's worthless and evil so not much point trying to help. Not buying the next one though. Sadly. Cuz its actually a decent story. Meh.
Captivating story and I can't wait to read the next pay in the series. The biggest challenge is that in these series, there is always someone bigger and more powerful and it will be awhile until I finally get to the end. Will the universe survive, somehow I suspect so?
An excellent 3rd offering from Christian Kallias. Plenty of action. Space battles! The mystery of Chase's origins deepens! Hard to put down. Impossible not to finish.
Kindle Unlimited, tho first one might be permafree or whatever. Space opera plus, think that is the 'genre' if you have to have one. I liked it, it having a little bit of almost everything and even some humor although noticed one of the reviews {which only glance at and only after already reading the book} said might have been unintentional...but to my way of thinking maybe the reader just found it humorous. As far as things not being realistic or whatever, well it's space opera and we are not in space for real yet so who knows, besides perhaps the writers of doctor who or star trek or the like, I mean come on Olympian Gods and you are just at what point thinking some things aren't 'real' enough
Earth Last Sanctuary (Universe in Flames Book 1) Fury to the Stars (Universe in Flames Book 2) Destination Oblivion (Universe in Flames Book 3) The Beginning of the End (Universe in Flames Book 4) Rise of the Ultra Fury (Universe in Flames Book 5) Shadows of Olympus (Universe in Flames Book 6) Armageddon Unleashed (Universe in Flames Book 7)
Chase is devastated and wants to forget, but the universe has other plans. Argos is scheming, his friends want to find him, and he gains a new ally. I'm enjoying this series immensely, liking the characters more as I get to know them.
This book, Destination Oblivion, by Christian Kallias is the third book in the trilogy I have so enjoyed reading. The characters continue to grow, both in maturity and as complex people. The situations that they are dealing with are just as complex, and twist around each other, making for a very interesting and complex story. There are so many surprise twists in the story that it easily keeps the reader glued to the edge of their seats. I am 'incarcerated' in a nursing home at the moment😕 and I have told all the other residents who are able to read books to try this author's works, and those who can't read for one reason or another too acquire the audio versions when they can. In short, Kallias' books are great reads.
This book will give the reader a lot to think about. You will need to be sure that you continue to read the next book. I think both Chase and Argos will be in for some shocks.
The saga gets better and better. The action is a mind blowing mix of space fights and fantasy face to face combats. The book blends the literary genres and leaves us handing breathless throughout the story line. Looking forward to the next volume!
In this book it gets more super hero action and less sifi. If you like super hero's then read on. Chase is despondent. He had to kill Sarah and his unborn child. He tries to drown his sorrows by fighting to the death, but keeps wining. As his super hero powers develop he goes head to head with his nemesis. Loads of flying, cars getting thrown around etc.
Not my favourite sub genre super hero, but this is an enjoyable book
"Please, call me Adonis." Things have been going better for the Alliance fleets but, hurting and furious with himself for not having killed Argos, Chase joins forces with a bounty hunter to track him down. Meanwhile, the battle force supremacy around Earth might, once again, be threatened. This interesting, full battling saga, mixing man, myth and aliens is compelling reading for s.f. action fans. A little heavy sometimes on personal propoganda, for example supportive of vegetarianism, but even this can be amusing. Some humour, too, in the conversations and references. My copy was taken from the Universe in Flames Box set, 1 - 5, which includes a bonus story, Ryonna's Wrath.
How can you clone someone and get their fetus as well? The clone would only have the DNA of the one person. Also when they are fighting the titan there is no communication outside the room but at the beginning Aphrodite tells Chase to use the altars and knows when he is about to get crushed. How? Be consistent in your universes rules.
