this manga was so cute! there's this fairy/elf thing named Lili that gives this general education girl, Kahoko Hino, a violin. Not just ANY violin, but a magical violin that anyone could play. The quality of the sound is based off of the players emotions. So Kahoko is forced by Lili to play in a musical concourse. The rest of the participants are 5 kids from the music department of her school (the departments generally don't interact and the music department is a bit stuck up). Her admittance is a shock to everyone and she's bullied about it by the music students that weren't accepted.

(this will now be a short synopsis of characters with a few not too important spoilers)

The other participants are Len Tsukimori, a 2nd year like Kahoko, an outstanding violin player who's parents are also musical and super famous and rich he's a bit stuck up and distant in the beginning but you grow to love him <3. He's pretty talented and he knows it, but that causes him to leave the school to study abroad and without Kahoko. Len is the reason Kahoko strives for perfection, wanting to please Len and become as skilled as him.

Azuma Yunoki, a 3rd year, an absolutely amazing flutist who has some family issues being the 3rd son and having things expected of him while he's also banned from out shining his brothers. He was forced to stop playing the piano (which his brothers played) and started the flute instead. His acts perfect and happy towards others and has a bunch of fan girls waiting on him hand and foot. He shows Kahoko i different side of him as the manga progresses and he loves Kahoko in his own way, though it doesn't really seem like it.

Kazuki Hihara, a 3rd year who's best friends with Azuma, a trumpet player (who does't think his skills are up to par with the others) is pretty happy and LOVES to eat. He'll eat anything and everything, and a lot of it! He falls for Kahoko a lot sooner than the other guys, but worries about the 1 year age difference since he's going to college next year to become a music teacher! He is so super lovable but is considered cute and brotherly by most girls.

Keiichi Shimizu is a 1st year who plays the cello. He is so cute I fell in love at first sight! he's the only one with normal colored hair... (blonde with blue eyes) and I absolutely LOVE the cello. He's a bit tired and tends to fall asleep, but pays attention at the right times. He's sweet and soft spoken and has an older sister who likes to makes and send him flashy clothes! (she also looks just like him!)

Fuyuumi Shouko is a 1st year and the only other girl in the concourse! She's really shy, and nervous on stage so she doesn't really come in until later in the manga when she starts to come out of her adorable shell. She plays the clarinet.

One last person to mention, Ryotaro Tsuchiura. He's a major hunk, hot athletic build, a student in the general ed department with Kahoko. He plays amazing well in soccer and knows Kahoko only a little bit at the beginning of the manga. He's a 2nd year like her, but in a different class. It turns out that he secretly plays piano and when Kahoko's accompanist ditches her, he steps in and plays the piano for her violin piece. the school's principal then has him become another participant in the concourse. Ryotaro quits soccer and thanks Kahoko for helping him see that music is really his true passion. He also falls in love with her.

Kahoko is blunt about things and deeply honest. She says what's on her mind and trys REALLY hard at the concourse. Since she has no musical experience whatsoever she needs to be the best she can be to even compare to everyone else, even Ryotaro who hasn't practiced the piano since he quit when he was young.

Overall I loved this manga! other characters come in later on (which i won't mention now) but I love all of their interactions! the only thing that sort of bugged me was that everyone basically fell for Kahoko. Not that she's not likable or anything, but she's oblivious to their feelings anyway! 1 (or 2 to have a little competition over her) would've been enough.

A school with a legend. A fairy with a magic violin. A girl with a unique chance. Kaho is singled out to compete in her school's music competition even though she has no prior experience playing an instrument. The other competitors are mostly beautiful boys (mustn't forget Shoko-chan), which creates a classic reverse harem feel. If I remember right, I could easily ship Kaho eight ways throughout this series. The anime is cute, too.

If it had not been for the name-discrepancy in this volume, I would have given it 4 stars instead of 3. I didn't like how the main story calls Len Tsukimori "Len" while his fangirls called him "Ren". Now, myself, I know that L and R supposedly make the same sound in Japanese, so both those names are said the same. But, this is an American-released volume, and most Americans do not know that, so it will tick them off to see the name-discrepancy.

Aside from that, this volume was quite enjoyable. La Corda d'Oro (or La Corda d'Bishi, as me and my cousin like to call it, due to the incredibly talented and handsome musically-inclined boys in the series) is the story of Kohoko Hino, who attends the general classes at an academy that also houses music classes for the beautiful and well-to-do children.

Kohoko is chosen, by the fairy who guards the school, to be in the school's music competition, which takes place every 2 or 3 years. There are two bad things about that. 1) Most of the music students don't like the general students, and therefore, make Kohoko feel really uncomfortable, everytime she is over there. & 2) Kohoko doesn't know how to play any instrument at all.
But, the fairy, Lili, takes the second problem into her hands. She gives Kohoko a magic violin, which she promises "Anyone can play". Kohoko doesn't realize till much later that that statement is indeed true, but that it doesn't mean that anyone can play it well, just that anyone can make the instrument make a noise. It takes heart to make yourself play it well. The magic violin's powers are not the solution to everything.
Kohoko ends up making friends with most the contestants of the music contest, but Len still remains cold toward her. She also becomes friends with Ryotaru Tsuchiura as well.
-------------
Can Kohoko melt the walls around Len's icy heart?
------------

Also, there is an anime of this series. Season one is called *La Corda d'Oro ~Primo Passo~* and the follow-up OVA is called *La Corda d'Oro ~Secondo Passo~*.
I highly recommend the anime to everyone.

This looked like an interesting manga so I picked it up. Turned out to be a really sweet one!

Kahoko is a normal student who happens to see a fairy one day. At first she doubts she really saw it, but then the next day she has been chosen as a contestant in a pretty big musical contest! She's never been musical or even really interested in music! Her school is on the same campus as a musical school and she can't even began to imagine competing with the students from the music school!

Then she learns more about why she was chosen. The fairy had to pick someone who could see him and thus be compatible with him and his magic. He gives Kahoko a magic violin that will help her to learn how to play and help with her posture. So long as she plays with good intentions and strong emotions she can end up sounding pretty talented! But even as she decides to give this contest a try she still feels inadequate and unprepared compared to the music students obvious talent.

Pros:This is a really sweet manga. I really liked Kahoko as she didn't lie about her talent and didn't try to luff her way through things. She knew were she stood :) The fairy and magic violin make it less serious and add some fun into the mix. There is a really good expression of appreciation in the music students talent and how Kahoko struggles a little to find out just where her heart and the music stand together. I definitely learned a few things about music and while the manga isn't necessarily exciting it does have its little adventures.

Cons:Like I already said, there were a couple slow parts and I wasn't immediately drawn in either. There were a couple times where the drawing or panels confused me too.

Overall, I'll get the next volume and while this manga probably won't be a super favorite I do think that I will enjoy and learn some things from it :) I'd recommend to 13+ girls. I don't think there was any content really and it was sweet and fun!

A fun read with a different concept. The art is lovely. The plot is interesting. It almost made me pick up the violin again. You should watch the anime because the wonderful music cannot be rendered in the manga. Recommending the anime for music lovers.

Igualmente, me voy a esforzar.

Na de most!

Akárhogy is, olvasni is nagy élmény.

Apalagi biola, harusnya pianika aja, biar unik hohoho ^0^.

Yahh,, sampai sekarang masih lanjut baca sampai vol.

Hino Kahoko is having a bad week at school. She forgets some homework, almost falls down the stairs, and is bullied when dropping supplies off at the musical half of the academy. Then she sees a weird sprite who adds her name to the Concours Music Challenge and hands her a magical violin.
* * * * *---------* * * * *---------* * * * *
This debut volume sets up our rather unusual (and contrived) premise. The work is based on an otome video game series with rhythm gameplay, dialogue choices, and bonding mechanics. It's part high school melodrama, part sports rivalry, and part reverse harem fantasy. Honestly, there is no reason Kaho-chan should just go along with these characters. She has never touched a musical instrument before, doesn't have high enough grades for the extra curriculars, and no one explains her situation or how the violin works even though they know more than her. While it is hard to convey the music via images, the core concept of embracing passion, not excluding diversity, and experiencing art with others are valid points worth exploration.

This review is for the whole series, not just this volume! I think for the average person picking it up for the first time, it would maybe be closer to a 3/3.5 out of 5 score, but it's more of a 4/4.5 for me because of how long I've owned and reread the first half of the series. I think that the storyline went absolutely the way it should have, but the ending is kind of disappointing, considering how many volumes you have to get through to get there and how good the 15th and 16th volumes are. The true strength of this series is the love of music/art and how each character connects to it differently. Definitely gives the vibe of the "old man in the antique shop"--lots of inspiration and art and beautiful objects connected with community and support from others. If you like movies like Whisper of the Heart, this is the perfect series to read.

I remember seeing this manga in Borders back in the day when it existed. I thought it would be another Nodame. I recall reading the first few volumes but never completing the series. My library app randomly let me know that it’s available so I decided to give it a second try. Maybe, I’ll finish it this time. The first volume is great. I love the fairy aspect. I’m looking forward to the different characters and instruments. It looks like there’s a pending love triangle. Obviously, a music manga would be better as a anime, but I’m sticking with the manga. I’m happy that the general education student still has to practice even with a magic violin or else that would be too unfair and far fetch. I enjoyed it. 4/5.

Yes!!! I found another good one!!!
My favourite boy so far is the happy-go-lucky trumpet player Kazuki. I also like the tall-dark-and-handsome/boy-next-(classroom)-door Tsuchiura. And the disinterested teacher, Kanazawa!! So many good boys, I wanna play this otome visual novel hahahaha

Giving this four stars instead of five because I can't hear the music because manga is a visual instead of an auditory medium. 😅 But I'll be watching the anime soon to make up for it!!

Series review: 5/5
Ahhh this manga has so much of my favourite things in it ... classical music, hot guys, fantastic artwork ... Anyway. I really love this series. It's a bit drawn out, I think, but worth reading for sure. I was happy with the end pairing initially when I first read it, but now my favourite is Tsuchiura, so yeah. I own all 17 volumes of this series.

I smell shipping in the air...I love kahoko with either with kazuki, mori - dark green hair dude The Who played football game n blue hair dude. The fairy choose kahoko because she can see the fairy that's why she was chosen n the fairy give her the gift the magical violin to play for the participant.

Cute concept. I really identify with the challenges of musical competition having participated in those myself. I'm finding the pacing to be a little slow in places but overall it's still interesting.

Not quite what I expected. The idea of a magic violin and a strange music contest without any context of what sort of contest it is was kind of unappealing. The characters weren't very interesting as well..

Flawless. Nostalgic 少女 manga style, the protagonist is loveable, and the love interests are attractive 🎻🤩🤪. I read this after watching a few episodes of the anime and I loved it! Especially the bonus pages at the end and some additional scenes. My favourite is still 志水 haha

It felt like a classic shojo from my childhood... probably because it was published around the age I started reading manga in the first place!
It was cute :) I'm not that interested in continuing but I thought that this was a solid first volume, and the characters and designs were cute!

So far pretty mediocre. The characters seem irritating and the artwork is unpolished - maybe this is an early work of the artist? Proportionately the bodies are a little off.
