After her divorce, librarian Annie Reynolds thought she’d closed the book on love for good―it just wasn’t part of her safe, comfortable routine. But if there’s anyplace she can relax and have a little fun, it’s Dune Road, where she and her closest girlfriends return for their annual getaway in the Hamptons. She knows it’s just what she needs to escape her empty nest (and empty bed). A chance encounter with a ruggedly handsome local promises Annie just that. But when one of her friends turns a simple flirtation with B-list movie star Jason Wilde into seduction―and Jason accidentally mixes a few drinks and his back-pain medicine―the ladies end up with a very high-profile houseguest. The media calls it a kidnapping, and before long, the FBI is on the hunt. Soon the ladies’ tame little trip has turned into the adventure of a lifetime. But will this case of mistaken misdoing sabotage Annie’s second chance at love, or will she have the confidence to take matters into her own hands to find her happily ever after?
Dee Ernst was born and raised in New Jersey, which explains a great deal about her attitude towards life. She loved reading at a very early age, and by the time she was ten she had decided to become a writer. It took a bit longer than she expected.
She went off to college, moved around a bit, had a job or two, a husband or two, and a daughter or two. It was the birth of her second daughter at the age of forty that got her thinking about what to do with the rest of her life. That was when she decided to give writing a real shot.
Dee loved chick-lit and romantic comedy, but hated the twenty-something heroines who couldn’t figure out how to go and get what they wanted. She began to write about women like herself — older, confident, and with a wealth of life experience to draw upon. She got an agent but no sales, and took the plunge into self-publishing in 2010.
In 2012, Better Off Without Him became an Amazon bestseller. She signed with Montlake Publishing, which went on to re-release Better Off Without Him and launch A Slight Change of Plan in 2013.
Since then she has written across several genres (cozy mystery, YA/fantasy, women's fiction) gone from full-length novels to short stories, and has written for Lake Union Publishing. She self-publishes under the 235 Alexander Street logo.
She is still in New Jersey, where she writes full-time. She lives with husband #2, daughter #2, a few cats and a needy cocker spaniel. She loves sunsets, long walks on the beach, and a really cold martini.
This was a well written funny, quirky, good story about 4 middle aged women who are at different places in their lives on their annual "girls" getaway where nothing extraordinary happens... except this time.
"Whatever happens on Dune Road stays on Dune Road"

I thought this would be a fun, light-hearted read that I could get through in a day or two, or so the synopsis would have me believe. I promise you, I now know more about the Hamptons than I do about the characters in which I read about. There were also these stupid little mistakes that made me want to tear my hair out. One example: The FBI come by to do a house to house check so the girls switch the tags to fool THE FBI. Now, I come from a small town in Georgia (I currently live in a city, but that's not the point) and let me tell you, when you get pulled over and don't have the correct tag on your vehicle, the officer that stopped you will know about it. THEY HAVE COMPUTERS PEOPLE! You mean to tell me that the FBI, involved in a high-profile celebrity kidnapping with 50 million dollars on the line doesn't have the same technology that my backwoods hometown police have?
None of the characters made any sense, the small bits of romance that the reader experienced sounded like something my 14 yr old would come up with (minus the sex) and not something more fitting to a 50 year old woman.
I received a free ARC from Netgalley.com in exchange for my honest opinion.

Oh lord! I had a blast reading Stealing Jason Wilde. I just love to laugh out loud when I am read a book and that is what happened with this story. I was not sure how I could relate to a fifty-something group but I did! Mostly because they are as a crazy as I am!
Some might say that it is very unlikely that a situation like this would happen, I agree with them. We just need to be willing to step out of our rational mind for a while and enjoy the story for what it is. That is what I did, and trust me, I did not want it to end! Pure entertainment, it is light, fun and you only can feel good while reading it.
For the last 6 years, three fifty-something ladies are taking their vacation in the Hamptons. They are renting a house and having a blast each time. This year is special: Tina decides to join them for the week. Tina is quite weird (that is the only word I could find to describe her), totally over the top and fun as hell. She decides to join the ladies in the Hampton in the hope of getting a chance to meet Jason Wilde. It didn’t take long before her wildest dream became reality ,but not in the way she envisioned it.
There is a good life lesson in this book : Never mix alcohol if you are taking prescription drugs! If you do so you could likely wake up in a house full of fifty-something ladies the day after! When Jason Wilde came back to his senses he was in for a shock and then all hell broke loose. I need to mention that Jason is not the brightest TV star out there. He’s got the look and that‘s about it.
The story is written from Annie (a divorced librarian) point of view. We have the opportunity to live the story through her lenses. It was a good choice, mostly because she is a very funny and interesting character. There is not a lot of love/romance scenes, but I don’t think it was the author goal while writing this book. There are some romantic sparks flying between Annie and Andy and Kelly and Liam though.
It is an excellent summer/vacation read. It does not take itself seriously, it is a quick read and humorous. I definitely recommend it, but as I said in the beginning, you need to check off your logic mind to really have a blast! I look forward to reading another Dee Ernst book!

This was a really cute romance about a group of 50-somethings who get together each year for a weekend in the Hamptons. This tradition began when the women were all stay-at-home mothers with young children. It has continued through divorces and other drama. This year four women make the trip. Annie is a divorced children's librarian who is set in her routine and likes it. She's the narrator. Deb is an African American Emergency Room nurse who tends to be the voice of reason. Kelly is an attractive, newly-divorced realtor. Tina is the odd one out. She is neurotic, medicated, and has a major crush on actor Jason Wilde that has led to a restraining order on her.
Tina is determined to see Jason Wilde while they women are in the Hamptons. They do meet him when he overindulges in alcohol. Since his rental is near theirs on Dune road, they offer to drive him home. He passes out before he can give his address. So they bring him to their place to wait until he wakes up. Since he combined alcohol with a medication, he doesn't wake up for more than 24 hours.
Since Jason is supposed to be shooting a television show, he is missed. In fact, his agent schemes to get Jason some job-saving publicity out of his disappearance and spreads the word that he has been kidnapped. Jason always does what his agent says. So he won't leave the women's house.
Getting Jason back where he belongs without being arrested by the FBI who are looking for him leads to all sorts of zany adventures. It really doesn't help that Annie has met and fallen in love with the head FBI agent on the case.

Annie and her friends go on their annual vacation. Now, Annie is divorced mom and she's looking to have some fun along with her friends. Unfortunately, Tina, their other friend, joins them because she wants to meet the tv actor Jason Wilde. Little did they know their vacation is going to be action-packed.
I enjoyed this little book. Not very much thought. It has a feel-good vibe. All these women were great. The plot with Jason Wilde was something I did not see coming. It added conflict to Annie's relationship with Andy . Sadly, they didn't have that many scenes for this charismatic couple. The ending felt a bit rushed too.
I received a copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for my honest review. This book was totally crazy, totally unbelievable, and totally a fun time! I really enjoyed the story and the characters. I recommend this as a fast and fun read.
Annie Reynolds is the first person narrator in Stealing Jason Wilde, and of the four women characters, she was my favorite. A fiftyish librarian, divorced from her husband for three years, she is settled into her routines. She isn’t sure she will have a second chance at love, and even more, she isn’t sure she wants it. She likes things the way they are.
Or so she thinks.
When she and her friends, Kelly, Deb, and Tina, head off to the Hamptons, they will be staying in their regular cottage on Dune Road. Usually it’s just Annie, Kelly, and Deb on these getaways, but for some reason, Tina has insisted on joining them. And she brings along her scrappy little dog.
Soon they know why she had to come. She had heard that Jason Wilde, her favorite actor, will be in the Hamptons, and she won’t miss this opportunity…not for anything. Although she does have a few problems, and she is extremely annoying, especially in her pursuit of Jason.
So many things seem to go wrong after three of the women meet up with Jason Wilde in a local bar. Tina’s kookiness didn’t help, and suddenly, they find that Jason is zonked out and cannot be wakened. He eventually crashes out in their cottage.
What seemed like a good deed has turned into a convoluted plan set in motion by Jason’s manager…and the women are inadvertently caught up in it.
Meanwhile, Annie has met Andy, a really nice guy, in a favorite haunt, and when they can get away together, they seem to be developing something special. But will Andy’s mysterious job turn out to be a big issue?
The antics at the cottage could turn everything sour between them. Will the women manage to solve the situation they are in without getting into trouble? Can Andy believe their stories?
A fun and light-hearted tale that kept me turning the pages, while shaking my head at every dumb thing they managed to do, still managed to earn 4.5 stars.
I didn't think that I would enjoy this book as much as I did, so it was a nice surprise when I found myself so engaged I couldn't stop reading! I'm extremely tired this morning as I write this as I stayed up for most of the night to finish the book. I had to see how it ended - I was not disappointed!
Every year, Annie and some of her friends get together for a week away in the Hamptons, away from husbands and kids. Newly divorced, Annie finds herself with 3 of her friends going on their annual trip, only this time she is ready for adventure! She finds herself agreeing to go stake out a celebrity so her obsessed friend can meet him. Imagine her surprise when they meet that celebrity, Jason Wilde, have a few drinks with him, watch him pass out, and take him home so he can sleep it off. Before they know it, they are being wanted for kidnapping him! Police are involved, and when some misunderstandings occur, the FBI gets involved as well! How's that for an adventure?
At first, I was unsure how much I would like this story, given the characters are older and I could not relate to them. That time was unnecessary because I became so wrapped up in their world from the start. In a what-happens-next fashion, I couldn't turn the pages fast enough.
Give this one a try! There's mystery! There's romance! There's celebrities! The Hamptons! Who wouldn't want this much fun on their vacation?

(I received an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review). I stumbled upon Dee Ernst’s books one day—I don’t even remember how—and I’m so glad I did! I have really enjoyed the fact that her main characters are in the 40-50 age range and still have full, exciting lives as well as being interesting people. Stealing Jason Wilde is no exception. I liked this novel just as much as her others, and I would like to see these characters again. The book was both fun and funny—I laughed out loud several times. Looking forward to her next novel!
A very quick breezy read with lots of on point details from the Hamptons. I liked that Tina, Deb, Kelly, and Annie are all mature women with careers. I can't however, condone wasting FBI resources or more importantly lying to the FBI in order keep an actor's career afloat. It was also incredibly medically irresponsible to reuse the patch and have Jason drink in order to pass out. No one seemed to consider that he might die - not even Deb the nurse. Sorry Netgalley, which granted me the ARC, but these women made a lot of bad choices.
I would like to thank Netgalley and Lake Union Publishing for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This was an adorable second chance at love novel. It was a quick fun read which I really enjoyed. This story had it all, mystery, intrigue, humor, friendship and most of all romance. I would love to start a girl’s weekend since reading this. Not for a kidnapping, but a friends down time would be great. I really enjoyed all the characters. I loved the chemistry between them all and just the wittiness and interactions. If you are in for a fun, cute little read this is it.
What a super cute and funny adventure. If only things like this happened to me. Only problem is I WANT MORE Annie and Andy plus Kelly and Liam....
Ann/Annie's story and love are just too cute. While I'm happily married it does give a girl hope that even in my golden years I might still have fun on a girls week. Maybe I should start planning ones. I'll take their previous 6 yrs of boring trips any day. Now to find great friends to share.
A fun Summer mystery with delightful characters and an unheard of plot. A fast read with lots of action. The writing style was first person narrative with lots of funny "asides."
I got this book almost a month ago in exchange for an honest review. If you treat this as the shallow romantic comedy that it's meant to be and not consider things such as the FBI falling for switched tags when they were searching for suspects, this was really great. I loved (read: LOVED) how the main characters were older, 40s+ instead of insipid 20-somethings. Their problems were normal and everyday problems that normal people live through. I could easily identify with them and it made me like them even more for it and maybe that's why I was ready to forgive Hamptons locale mistakes or FBI falling for switched tags. The way that these women got entangled in the kidnapping was actually funny. The sweet romance between Andy and the narrator was believable and realistic, despite the extraordinary circumstances. The whole thing is contrived and in real life, these women probably would've been shot on sight, sure. But this is where artistic license comes in, I figure. As I said, perhaps I was more forgiving because the plot was engaging and the characters were easily identifiable and likeable, more-or-less a riot. This was one of my most favorite books I've read in awhile, reminiscent of Jennifer Crusie (read: reminiscent, not the same). I recommend it and I recommend reading it not expecting a study on Hamptons or the next greatest classic of all time to be discussed in book groups and made into a movie for TCM to show after 20 years go by. It's a romcom and it was adorable!
After the first and maybe the second chapter, I wasn't sure if the was going to be the book for me. Then it picked up and by the middle of chapter 4, I was sold. Stealing Jason Wilde was a funny, fast-paced, wild romp about 4 older girlfriends and their annual week in the Hampton's. In the past they've joked about "what happens on Dune Road, stays on Dune Road." This trip they would now have to actually follow that rule, because it gets Wilde! I mostly listened to the audio version and enjoyed the narration immensely.
Dee Ernst is the one whos books I have listend on audible in revesed order of publishing starting with Maggi Finds Her Muse to this Stealing Jason Wilde and oh boy! she hasn't failed me to make happy with her books. I am glad that I had chosen her books to listen to. Stealing Jason Wilde is one hell of a wild ride for an annual vecation of four ladies. This is a very interesting and fast paced story.
At some points I thought the plotline is a bit predictable. However, her character building style has made up for this. I hope you wil also enjoy it as much as I liked the experice.
3 and 1/2 shocked stars. I have loved every book I read by Dee Ernst until this one. I liked it ok. One of the things I’ve always loved about her novels are her main characters. She writes about middle aged women dealing with realistic situations and still finding love. Her characters have always been women I admire. These four women acted like idiots. I don’t want to give away any of the plot but suffice it to say this is different from her other books. 😪
Super cute book and a fun read. Middle-aged women who take their annual girls' vacation gets real exciting when they meet TV star, Jason Wilde! The vacation gets real interesting and the ladies juggle having a good time/being normal while keeping a big secret revolving around Jason.
I laughed several times throughout the book. A totally different book than what I've been reading all year, truly entertained throughout the whole thing!
Every time I read one of Dee Ernst’s books, all I can think is “this would make a great rom-com!” Her characters are funny and relatable, and the situations they end up in are straight out of Hollywood’s most intriguing romantic comedies. Write on girl!
This was a perfect Beach read, something to curl up with on a rainy night or late night when you want just like reading. I found this book to be fun and filled with likeable characters. An enjoyable read.
