After a friend is brutually attacked, Cassidy James and one-time lover Erica Trinidad team up to find the assailant. Their investigation leads to the discovery of a gaming club which bets on people instead of cards. This time, the game is to find the famous lost treasure of Rainbow Ridge. James and Trinidad learn that members of the gaming club leave clues for unknowing victims of their schemes to discover. The two conceive a plan to beat the club members at their own game.
Entertaining read! Both a storyline and plotline driven book #7 in the ongoing 'Cassidy James Mysteries.' Also included, is this kinda starting over romantic relationship with the one and only Ms. Erica Trinidad (the sauce to Cassidy's spaghetti) -- which was very well integrated through-out the entire story. Another recommended book and series!
"7th Heaven" sees a welcome return to a more traditional P.I. investigation after the paranormal tarradiddle in "6th Sense". Cass James has been suckered into being a judge at the First Annual Rainbow Lake Clam Chowder Cook-Off. Playing the part of protecting Cass from 'bribery and other tomfoolery' is series regular Tommy Green. Just as Cass finishes the tasting she sees Tommy standing next to, what the hell!!!, Erica Trinidad (Cass's ex from all the way back to the first book in the series). "I'd gotten over her years ago. I certainly wasn't interested in revisiting old mistakes," Cass notes. Anyone who has read the preceding books knows that Cass and Erica will be knocking sparks off each other for the remainder of the book - until they either make up or someone new enters the scene. But, before the two have a chance to get started on each other, Tommy is found beaten and very badly injured. With Tommy in a coma Cass tries to unravel a peculiar tale of a long lost treasure and whether Tommy had discovered the missing clue to its discovery. Except that's not the full story and fair play to author Kate Calloway for introducing a completely novel twist which turns "7th Heaven" around. There's deception, trickery, scheming, double-dealing and enough treachery to keep the reader satisfied. One of the best books in the series so far. Do Cass and Erica get back together - read the book to find out.
Best book in the series. Everything started with smashing Tommy's head. But the motivation is so deep covered that each step to figure it out leads to a different mystery.
