Seth Mason was the pen name of Gordon Shumway, under which he was best known as the author of the bestselling line of Oriental themed RPG books (Legend of the 5 rings). He also wrote under the names Kim Hosmer and Aaron Medwin.
Mason was born to share croppers in western Missouri. He served two tours in Iraq (from 2004 to 2007) with the United States Army as a helicopter gunner. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross with bronze oak leaf cluster, the Bronze Star with "V" and bronze oak leaf cluster, and three purple hearts. He began writing in 1994 was a history buff and enjoyed hunting, fishing, sailing, poker, chess, pool, and pipe collecting. He described himself as "confirmed bachelor". When discussing the farer sex, Seth was heard to say " Where do I start? They're distracting. They way over think shit. And did you know thier "monthly visitor"attracts dragons?"
