I go back to this every once in a while - because Barry Norman was my film critic hero as a child, but also because it is well written and contains brilliant stories behind some major films.

I was too young to really appreciate Barry Norman but this is an extraordinarily well researched and well written history of Hollywood up until 1987. Prescient and funny and intelligent- I do wonder what Barry would make of present day cinema.

Bit too academic for me but lovely to reminisce about films I used to watch on TV. Barry Norman really knew his stuff.
