In the Line of Duty: A Soldiers Remembers

Rate this book
This is a book about a soldier who had the courage of his convictions and was not afraid to use his judgment and face the consequences. He not only set a standard for himself to perform to the best of his ability but inspired others to do the same. The general has highlighted the shortfalls in strategic thinking on the part of a few military commanders during the J&K operations in 1947, Sino-Indian conflict of 1962, and Indo-Pak war in 1965. He wrote his magnum opus with the intent of passing on his experiences to the younger generation of officers ready to serve the country. This autobiography recounts all the details of the eventful life of a highly distinguished soldier.

Very brief on the 1965 Indo-Pakistani war, which was the theatre where the author made a significant contribution in leading an armoured brigade on a counter-offensive towards Lahore and denting Pakistani armoured incursions in the Chamb sector. No doubt this is covered in more detail in his book ''War Dispatches'' which deal with this campaign in-depth.

An honest book from General who as Western Army Commander in 1965 Indo-Pak War, was instrumental in good Indian showing in the area. Would highly recommend the book for a glimpse in Generals life..
