There are so many remarkable women and their stories in this book. Over 300 women, some famous, some not. Each biography is short and fascinating and encapsulates so much about the women’s lives. It’s still astounding how recent some of these stories are, and yet how much discrimination there was and still is.
This is an alternative people’s history of NZ, told through individual women’s lives. I love the range of stories: a mix of rich and poor, town and rural, Maori, Pakeha and diverse immigrants, epic adventurers and risk takers through to women living their lives at home raising a family or advancing through the academic and business worlds.
Epic women are everywhere and I am so glad this book exists.
