This is a uniquely told story which is both an Autobiography and a Biography. The personal story is printed in bold type, and reflects the very personal recollections and ‘spin’ on events which moulded her experience of life. Margaret’s son-in-law, Dr. James L. Jost, provides the linking background between the passages from Margaret’s own writing. She devotes the book to the memory of her previously more well known surgeon husband, Paul Brand, who had died a few years earlier, but had pleaded with her to put her own story on record.
This is the record of a woman who was firstly a disciple of Jesus Christ, and an example for professional women in combining responsible motherhood of six children with pursuit of an outstanding clinical career. The pace of the storytelling is such that one ends a chapter wondering what is going to happen in the next. Human interest events combine with objective reporting to provide a book that I highly recommend!

Dr. Margaret E.Brand and her late husband, Dr. Paul Brand, served on the staff of the Christian Medical College and Hospital in Vellore, South India, for eighteen years, and on the staff of Gillis W. Long National Hansen's Disease Center in Carville, Louisiana for twenty-two years, where Dr. Margaret was chief of Ophthalmology. At the age of 87 in 2006 when Vision For God was released, Dr. Margaret was still maintaining a busy schedule, speaking and travelling around the world. She passed away peacefully on November 17th, 2014 at the age of 95.

After reading Dr. Margaret Brand's story, she has inspired me to become a better Christian. I completely agree with Philip Yancey's wife, when she asked her husband years ago, "When are you going to write about Margaret? She's the real story!"
I have mixed feelings concerning Dr. Paul Brand(Margaret's husband), but I will say that he seemed to be a great doctor. I pray it was God's agenda that Paul followed and not his own in the medical field.
I have examples straight from the book to back up why I feel Dr. Paul had no compassion nor did he show any emotion during a dangerous situation Margaret found herself in and during another situation concerning one of their daughters and then there was the time when a woman was dying in granny's(Paul's mother) arms.
Dr. Margaret Brand was the glue that held her family together. She has shown the world that a person can handle a lot in life, day after day, with God's help. I laughed and cried during my reading journey with the Brand family, and truly appreciated all of the family photos they share with everyone and an update on the Brand children.
Thank you Dr. James Jost for helping Margaret tell the world her story.

I've enjoyed learning about Dr. Paul Brand and his work and reading his books, so I enjoyed his wife's story as well. This is partly an autobiography, as it was written by Margaret and her son in law. Many good life stories in this one, all good instances of God's faithfulness and provision to missionaries to India.

The Drs. Brand were incredible people who used their intellect and energy to better the lives of people who contract Hansen's disease (leprosy) in India, the U.S. and around the world and along the way they demonstrated God's love to many.

Such an encouraging read about a family who put all of their hard work and education towards glorifying God in all that they did.

Interesting and inspirational. I wish there had been more emphasis on the missions aspect of her life, instead it was mainly about her medical achievements.

What a remarkable life story! Enjoyed learning about her work with Leprosy of the eye and how it affects its victims. Read with interest how the life of this doctor and missionary was told with a lot of emphasis on the life of the Paul and Margaret Brand family. The incidents involving the children made her life seem not much different from my own, so different from her missionary life of living and working apart from family in a foreign land. I also found parallels as to how God taught her and how He teaches me.

A TCK and a pioneer in the field of women in medicine, Margaret thought she left it all behind to follow her doctor husband to India, where she unexpectedly was thrown into ophthalmology. Just as her husband began to research pain reversal for lepers and soon became the worldwide authority on the subject, she saw the correlation to leprosy and the eyes, began researching, and soon became the worldwide authority on that subject (without any degrees in ophthalmology & while raising several children in a foreign country!).

The story is amazing and inspiring. I am still meditating on how this woman managed to be an excellent professional, mother, wife and teacher in the same time, how she coped with hard times and how she remained modest and caring in spite of her wolrd-wide recognition.

I loved the combination of Margaret Brand's words and the complementary explanations. However, the book somehow lacks in its presentation, and the writing style is a little poor. When I say this I think of the books of Paul Brand and Philip Yancey which were a delightful read from all points of view.

An incredible story of two people who's willingness to do God's will achieved incredible results. This book is full of encouragement and inspiration to follow God's leading and let him worry about your qualifications. An amazing story of an amazing woman.

The best parts if this book are the stories Dr. Margaret tells of the lessons she learned from everyday experiences with her children, how her children revealed to her the methods and character of God. It is true. Our children are some of God's loudest messengers when we are willing to stop and listen.
