Jocasta Pantile needs a case to keep the bailiffs from the door. Stanislav Duff needs someone to find his prize spells. They make the ideal client and enquiry agent, especially with Jocasta's prize asset, the genetically-engineered Spellhound. The trouble is that when she finds them, Duff intends to kill the thief and his accomplices. Jocasta doesn't much like his plan, but knows that if she doesn't find them, Duff may kill her instead. If he doesn't kill her anyway; she knows too much about him for her own good. Neither of them realize just how far Duff's desire for Vengeance will take them....

British SF writer Colin Harvey, 50, died August 15, 2011 of a stroke.

First published in 2001, Colin was the author of six novels, the last of which is Damage Time which was published in October 2010.

He was also the editor of the Black Quill and British Fantasy Award nominated anthology Killers, and the SF anthology Future Bristol, which has had glowing reviews from Albedo One and The Fix. His most recent anthology, Dark Spires: Speculative Fiction From Hardy Country is available from Wizards Tower Press.

His short fiction has appeared in Interzone, Albedo One and Apex Magazine, and is collected in Displacement.

This is very good considering it's Harvey's first novel. I've previously read Winter Song and Lightning Days both of which I enjoyed and I'd say that this falls between the two.
