GLYNN JAMES is an author of science fiction, post-apocalyptic, dark fantasy, horror, and dystopian fiction. His love of science fiction began when he was eight years old after discovering HP Lovecraft and Richard Matheson, and then later on Terry Pratchett, Neil Gaiman, James Herbert, Clive Barker, and Stephen King.
In addition to being author of the “ALTERLIGHT” supernatural mystery thriller series, he is author of the dark sci-fi series "DIARY OF THE DISPLACED", the post-apocalyptic "THROWN AWAY" series, and co-author of the "ARISEN" series and the “DUSTFALL” series.
I really like this series and enjoyed this book. At first I wasn't sure I liked the dictated journal on a voice recorder format as much as the written journal format of the previous books. But, it grew on me. And, I'm very glad Connor and Ilya ran into each other and are now traveling together. She will give him someone to talk to, just like James always had DogThing or Rudy or Adler to talk with. Connor clearly thinks Ilya is hot so who knows, maybe we will see some action between a human and, well, whatever she is!
This book at the start had me torn in two. On one hand, I was put off it ( I don't want to say why as it would spoil the story). But on the other hand, I really also wanted to carry on following the story, so I stuck with it and I really wasn't disappointed in the end. I just felt it wasn't as good as the first three. However, it was still a great page turning read!
Excellent story. There is a lot of action, mysteries, and adventure in this story. The main character is very interesting and so is his ghost. I need the rest of this series.
Another generation discovering James' world...Connor, his great grandson.
The fast-paced, easy style and great 'voice', make this a compelling read. Rather than the written diary, it's now a recorded account of this next journey following the footsteps of past generations, and it's a fascinating tale; one of intrigue, mystery and suspense.
Highly recommended...looking forward to book five; hope it's soon.
