This market leading textbook has been fully updated in response to extensive user feedback. It includes a new chapter on joints and veins, additional examples from around the world, stunning new field photos, and extended online resources with new animations and exercises. The book's practical emphasis, hugely popular in the first edition, features applications in the upper crust, including petroleum and groundwater geology, highlighting the importance of structural geology in exploration and exploitation of petroleum and water resources. Carefully designed full colour illustrations work closely with the text to support student learning, and are supplemented with high quality photos from around the world. Examples and parallels drawn from practical everyday situations engage students, and end of chapter review questions help them to check their understanding. Updated e learning modules are available online (www.cambridge.org/fossen2e) and further reinforce key topics using summaries, innovative animations to bring concepts to life, and additional examples and figures.
Uno de los mejores libros para adentrarse al mundo de la geología estructural, rama que es increíblemente compleja en la geología. Definitivamente merece una releída cuando esté más adelante en mi carrera.
Excellent textbook with lots of pictures (and good content online) that does a good job of explaining the many, many geologic terms used to understand tectonic processes and shapes. You will want to have read a basic geology textbook before reading through this, but that should be sufficient to learn what you need. Despite some mathematical notation, it is not really strictly necessary for understanding in this book. I do appreciate the author putting in the math, however, as it is helpful if you have a math background.
Structural Geology is a beautiful, advanced-level textbook that provides a thorough induction into this subdiscipline using an excellent combination of text, imagery, and animations. See my full review at https://inquisitivebiologist.com/2019...
I LOVED THIS BOOK. It saved my life for an exam. Well written, wonderful images, clear draws... Even foreign to English can easily learn how our earth works. The reading is pleasant.
This book gives an excellent introduction for bachelor students in Earth Sciences/Geology about structural geology. It has a clear, not-boring text and is illustrated by a lot of diagrams, drawings and photographs to explain the various theories/methods/facts about geology given in the text.
Because this book is meant as an introducing book to geology, many things though aren't explained in much detail, as for example the different ways of calculating deformation in the field. It is therefore recommended to use this book as a reference book next to the lectures you follow for a geology course, but to use other books for more detailed explanations on how to calculate something, and how processes exactly work. One book that is also often used is Structural Geology in combination with this one, which is a more detailed introduction book.
So while this book is easier to understand for beginning geologists, those looking for more could better combine this book with another!
