Former Navy SEAL Josh Marx thinks he has it all figured out. He’s living the bachelor lifestyle in southern California, running risk assessment for the Renegades, but most importantly, he’s finally gotten over the unrequited love he’s harbored for his former teammate’s ex wife. Then his buddy calls from overseas, worried because he hasn’t heard from his ex, and asks Josh to check in on her. Josh doesn’t want to get involved, but the same code that urged him to walk away in the first place is suddenly pushing him to change his Christmas plans.
Grace Ashby doesn't appreciate the sexy SEAL trying to step in and take over. He thinks she’s hit rock bottom by working at a strip club, but she knows differently. She could set him straight, but he’s already rejected her once, and she doesn’t need one more man judging her.
She tells him to butt out of her business and her life. But Josh’s conscience won’t let him walk away this time.
Josh fell in love with his Navy teammate and friend ex-wife. And she fell for him either. But even after some years of their divorce, for some sense of loyalty to his friend he never did anything about it. But now his friend heard some rumors about Grace’s new job and asked Josh to go check on her. And this time everything changes. She is decided to have him and he can’t resist anymore. But when friends and loyalty are at stake, Josh must decide what’s worth more for him.
This is was a romantic, sexy and sweet story just as Skye Jordan got us used to. It was too short and it had potential to be more developed and longer, and that would have been perfect. But for a short-story this was a great reading and a must-read for those of you who like the Renegades series.
This is just what I was in the need of a Sweet Sexy read. I love the Renegades series with the Alpha Males and feisty heroines making the hero's work for it this did all that, its a short read but all in all it gave me what I needed till the next one is out.
So what's it about Josh Marx has been a former navy SEAL but is now working with the Renegades as a risk assessor he's a bachelor living the single life working playing but missing that special person in his life. Josh is Graces ex-husbands brother/best friend on the field and while Graces Ex was away and never around to support Grace even when he could Josh was there to be her friend, Grace and Josh have loved each other for a long time but could never do anything about it through mainly Josh's loyalty to Issac. Issac and Grace have been divorced for three years but that doesn't mean he doesn't care therefore he calls Josh to go and check on her, there's rumors of where and what she works as with some umming and arring he goes to check on her and his HEART.
Grace is a strong heroine she lives her life IN CONTROL of every aspect of how she lives, what she does how she supports the people she loves she's one KICK ASS ladddyyy. But again is missing Josh and sometimes we need more than just the daily routine. I would explain Grace as sexy, beautiful, strong but a beautiful soul through and through in and out and deserves to be happy.
Josh is guarded to start with but at the same time very protective of Grace and only wants Grace to be safe and happy.
My Thoughts This is a sweet romance just giving us Renegades lovers something special before the next book is out. I adore this series and would highly recommend this for lovers of this series what I will say is although this is a renegades story this mainly focuses on Josh and Grace there life and how they get together for that all sweet HEA including some extra characters in Graces work, family etc but don't expect much interaction with the renegades bunch, saying that I really enjoyed the theme of the story and was in a mood for it.
I love this series, so I was thrilled to have a book for Josh since I've been curious about him when he was first introduced in Ricochet. (Even though I wanted to jock punch him for most of it LOL)
I was very happy to see a different side of him in this novella, a more sweet side. This was a sweet, steamy and short read. While I can't say I was blown away or that it was as good for me as the rest of the books in the series have been, it was still a very satisfying read and will do nicely to tide me over till the next Renegades book
Josh Marx is a single guy living in California, and doing risk assessment for the Renegades Stunt Company. He's a retired Navy Seal who doesn't relax much, and is always in control. All his friends seemed to be in love, and it is a constant reminder of what is missing in his life. He felt empty, and craved something more permanent.
Josh is excited to be heading home to Philadelphia to be with his family for the holidays. His plans take a detour when his Navy buddy calls and asks him to stop in San Diego on his way out of town. His friend Beck wants Josh to check in on his ex-wife he hasn't been able to reach.
Josh is nervous to see Grace Ashby. His friends ex is the one woman he has wanted for years. She is the only woman who has ever understood him, and at one time was his best friend. They've known each other for 7 years, but never taken things past friendship, because Josh thinks of Beck like a brother, and feels Grace is off limits to him. When Josh sees Grace again he realizes just how much he's missed her, and that all his old feelings for her are still there, and just as strong. He is shocked how different she is. The once timid wholesome girl now has a new sultry look, and a confidence that he finds extremely sexy.
Grace was stunned to see Josh show up at her work. She hasn't seen or heard from him in a year, since he bailed on her. He is the only man she's ever truly loved, and she's angry & hurt with him. At the same time, Grace still feels drawn to him, and is dying to have him anytime he's anywhere close to her. He is absolutely gorgeous. Josh continues to struggle with his duty to Beck and their friendship, but eventually can't fight what is happening between him & Grace. I just loved the sexual tension in this story, & boy was Josh worth the wait when we finally get the sexy time! ;)) This was a great Christmas novella & I can't get enough of the Renegades men! :D
-She was gorgeous, sensual, erotic, naughty, and sweet all at the same time. Everything a man could ever want all packaged inside a generous, compassionate, resilient woman.
This is a novella about Josh, who we met in the last book, Ricochet. A friend of his that he owes a huge debt to needs some help in checking in on his ex-wife. Naturally, Josh drops everything to do so.
I really enjoy this series and even though Josh is not a Renegade per se, the novella was still just as good. My main problem is Josh.
See, in the last book, he was a jerk and not very likable and I could ~sort of~ forgive that especially if he took care of the heroine well enough. No worries there but the problem is he really wanted to be with the heroine of the last book. Now we're suppose to believe that instead he's always loved the heroine in this book? I just didn't buy it.
That doesn't mean that they weren't great together because they were. A lot of that credit goes to Grace because she sure gives Josh a run for his money and once things get going, it's hot, hot, HOT!
Grace was wonderful. She had some rough situations come up but she didn't let them get her down. She was taking care of business. I really liked how she took care of her Mom.
The whole club scene was a nice spin as well the situation with her Mom. I loved how much Josh was there for Grace and her Mom.
As always with these novellas, it was just too short. It definitely couldn't been longer but I was happy that it ended well. The key part? Priceless! Still hoping for a Troy and Giselle book! ;)
Favorite quotes:
♥ "I'm about ready to own you."
♥ “Don’t…move…” he said between pants. “Let me…find my…brain…”
♥ "You always did love to play by the rules. Let's check out the dark side..."
♥ “This was the key that started her collection. My grandfather gave it to her the day he told her he loved her, explaining it was the key to his heart. And I’m giving it to you as the key to mine.”
That was a sweet and fast read. After the last book I wasn't a big Josh fan, but he was quite entertaining here. If you like this series....a must read, but it's nothing world moving. ;D

(The following was posted before reading...obviously. Duh)
4.25 RATING- Short, sexy, and sweet...another great addition to the Renegades series. Glad Josh got his HEA after all. This series has been a lot of fun to read. I've enjoyed the characters (for the most part) and the writing and steam were well done. I'm only sad that this is the end of the Renegades series. It's been a must read for me since book one. Looking forward to what the author has coming out next. Whether she's writing as Skye Jordan or Joan Swan, she's always a favorite of mine!
Note: Rumor was sold as a stand-alone but I purchased as part of the Naughty & Nice: A Holiday Collection anthology.
Josh’s story. Ladies did you hear me? We get JOSH!!! Now I was not entirely pleased with Josh in the last book – but I could not deny that he won me over and getting his story was absolutely fantastic.
Josh, former Navy Seal and currently working with the crew of Renegades to compile the risk assessment of their jobs is getting ready to head home for the holidays when he gets a call from his Navy buddy about checking up on his ex-wife. But Grace isn’t just the ex-wife of his teammate, she’s the woman he fell in love with and the one he thought he could never have.
There is zero doubt about the abilities of this author and that this series is one of the hottest out there. This story was an absolute joy to read and a great addition to the series. Josh’s character deserved this piece of happiness and it being in the form of a novella was perfect. Both characters were so likable, although I already had a crush on Josh – I was so happy to see him get what he wanted.
This series is a must read for romance lovers. From the development of the characters, the story lines to the way the author can create such heat in a scene... I loved every second.
I've loved every book in Skye Jordan's Renegades series and the novella, RUMOR, is no exception. I wasn't sure what I thought of Josh for most of the book in Ricochet (Renegades #3) mostly because he seemed so uptight and his interference with Rachel and Ryker's relationship, but he proved himself a stand-up guy at the end. I was happy to get to learn more about what made him tick and for him to have a second chance to find happiness with his own true love.
After receiving a desperate overseas phone call from his buddy and former teammate, and then not finding Grace in the same situation she'd been in when he'd last seen her Josh thought he’d need to rush in to save her, but Grace was no damsel in distress. Grace was a perfect match for Josh. Strong, independent, sexy, intelligent and determined to make her own way despite the gorgeous ex SEAL's meddling. She knew who she was, what she wanted, and she owned it. And she owned Josh. These two were combustible they were so hot together. Fantastic story. 4.5 stars
~I listened to the audio version. The narrator for this series is one of the best I've heard.
Well if this wasn't just a pleasant surprise! I absolutely adore this series so it was kind of a no brainer to purchase and read as soon as I found out about it's release. Josh melted my heart over and over in this sweet, saucy novella! And you couldn't help but love the tough as nails Grace doing what needed to be done in order to take care of her Mother. This could honestly be read as a standalone but why in the hell would you want to do that? The men of the Renegades series are seriously worth your time! Trust me!!
3.5-4* I really love this series and was super excited when I saw Josh's story had been release. As much as I enjoyed Rumor I felt there was just a little something missing, there wasn't the humour or connection with the characters that has been such a big part of the other books in the series. That saying, I did love catching up with Josh and finding out his story, I just wish it had been a bit...more.
This is the 1000 book added to my READ shelf in Good Reads!
And what a spectacular little book it was! I loved these two and am so happy we got to see Josh get his HEA in the form of a second chance unrequited love. Grace was amazing and strong. They burned it up together.
I love the Renegades series! I do hope there's lots more to come!
I have really enjoyed Skye Jordan's Renegades series from the very first book. Each installment crafts a wonderful story of a "bad boy" who falls hopelessly in love with a "good girl" but the road to basking in their love is often hard fought. And that is no different for the characters in Rumor. I adored Josh and Gracie and was happy to see that Josh found love after losing Rachel to Ryker in Ricochet. But, Josh never really loved Rachel because his heart belonged to another woman -- Grace, the ex wife of his best friend and SEAL buddy. Grace loved her husband Beck and was faithful to him during their marriage, but he always placed his career over her so she decided to end things. But something about Josh really appeals to Josh and she falls head over heels in love with him. But Josh bears the same burden as her ex. He too is a SEAL and puts his career over everything else. Yet, an injury during an operation refocuses the direction of Josh's life. When he awakes in the hospital, Grace is the first face he sees. She takes care of him because she loves him, and he all too quickly realizes that his feelings for her are growing too. But this isn't a new feeling for Josh because he has always been a little in love with Grace. She met Beck and Josh at the same time and he was immediately drawn to the petite beauty. However, he knew that his career would always take him away from her. Beck didn't struggle with the same internal battle and went after and won Grace's heart. As Josh begins to mend under Grace's tender care, he knows that he wants her and nothing else will do. So, doing the honorable thing -- respecting his best friend -- he leaves Grace and San Diego, where they both live. What Josh doesn't recognize is that Grace's tender care doesn't come become she is a good friend caring for him, but it is coming from her love for him. His departure leaves her heartbroken and alone and then her life seems to just spiral out of control. Her mother, who she loves dearly, begins to show signs of severe dementia and Grace sells her home and car to put her mother in a high-end care facility. That still costs her a mint to pay for. As a result, Grace, a dancer by trade finds a way to make a considerable amount of money faster -- by working at a strip club. Oh she's not a stripper but Beck doesn't know that when he sends Josh on a recon mission to find out what's happened to her because she refuses to answer his calls or texts. Hello...DIVORCED!!! Such a man :). But the dutiful friend, Josh, goes to uncover what has happened to Grace and in the process he loses his heart to her all over again.
Although a novella length story, Rumor contained a depth that created a very engaging and enjoyable story. Grace's struggle totally pulled me in and I adored her mother, Carolyn, who was such a sweetheart when she had her moments of lucidity. Her, "I heard a rumor..." commentary was just so cute. And Josh...*sigh* was just the type of man that you'd want riding to your rescue in real life. Sure, he was bossy and dominating but he wanted Grace to know that she wasn't alone. The things he did for her and the time he spent with Carolyn, with nothing to gain, was more than a little sweet. He showed Grace, rather than told her, that he loved her. He did one better when Beck "discovered" that he and Grace were together. He didn't leave nor did he flinch with his BFF discovered that his ex was with his best friend. Although Beck's reaction was classic with the "Incoming" bit (which had me laughing out loud) but as is the way of men, the matter was done and dusted with that reaction.
All in all, Rumor was a delightfully sweet and very sexy story. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for badass men who are strong and gentle and women who take what they give and give it even better.
I really and truly love this series. Right away I could tell that Rumor was going to affect me the same way the previous books had. To be honest, I didn't really love Josh in Ricochet. However, I've repented and he has absolutely won my heart now! I guess since I didn't get his point of view and story in the previous book I didn't really know him. In Rumor, you will finish having no doubt that Josh Marx is a man among men and one of the best types of guys. Grace, well, she is that woman we all hate because she's just too good. Yet, she takes zero s-it from Josh, or anyone for that matter.
Their story is one of once forbidden love. Said forbidding came from the fact that Grace used to be married to Josh's former SEAL teammate. When an injury forced Josh back into life stateside he gets dragged down into an all work and no play reality until his buddy calls worried about his ex. The same ex that Josh has had a fair few fantasies about long before the divorce papers were signed. When he finds Grace living the less than perfect life he last saw her in warning signs fly up and he's rushing to save the day. But Grace doesn't want to be saved. And definitely not by the man that's she's loved for years without returned feelings, and who went MIA on her a year ago.
You know how I told you Josh was the best of the best? Well he sure let his colors shine after Grace put him in his place. He stopped trying to change her and instead helped her make the best of her situation. And let's not forget that these two can't even be in the same room without combusting. It wasn't too long before their passion won out over his sense of duty to his friend, and her fear that Josh would leave soon.
First off, the subject may be a precarious one for some, but the reasoning and characteristics of those involved really come to light and I had zero issue with Grace and Josh striking up a forever romance. Josh is just amazing. He's such a great, realistic guy with the charisma ladies love. Meanwhile, Grace is hell bent on making it on her own, and she does. She's a tough cookie that inspires. Their banter is flawless. Their sexual escapades are hotter than hades. And their love is just oozing sweetness and passion. This book really struck a chord emotionally as well. I don't want to ruin it, so you'll just have to read it, but let it be known I'll be keeping this on my re-read shelf for a feel-good quickie every once and a while. All in all, a fantastic addition to the Renegades series!
I love when I find books by authors I love that I didn't realize were out. It is like a special surprise. Rumor was one of those books. I thought I had read all the Renegade books, but nope. I had this one to read! How excited am I?
Since it has been awhile I didn't quite remember who Josh, or any of them, were at first, but it slowly started to come back to me. Josh is not a Renegade guy, but close enough. He is friends with them and was a Navy SEAL until a shoulder injury took him out of duty. When this story opens he is hanging out with all the characters from the first books, but he is not very happy. Something is missing for him. Being around all these people who are so in love just makes him want that too. But he can't. The only lady he has ever really loved he can't be with.
Grace and Josh used to be really close. She was married to one of his Navy SEAL buddies and even though they divorced a few years earlier Josh still can't go there. Even though he loves Grace he can't have her. When his buddy, her ex, calls him up and asks him to check in on her for him since she is not responding to him Josh grudgingly goes. He doesn't want to, but when he finds out she is might be stripping he knows something must be wrong. She is a dancer, she had all these dreams, if this is what she is doing now she has to have a reason.
When Josh shows up Grace is not very happy. After all he left her broken hearted last year and she just barely was able to recover from that. She can't let him back in, she can't have him walk away again. His life is in LA, hers in San Diego. She knows this and it will never work.
Man these two were so hot together! Even though Josh at first tries to fight it it is inevitable that they will get together. I loved this story. It was great that Grace is working at the strip club, but not stripping (though she has learned a few things while teaching the other girls to dance). Yes at first Josh is upset when he finds her there, but once he sees what she is doing he quickly changes his mind. He loves her and she him and they just need to work everything out. It was hot and fun and just a great read.
