Slade: A Stepbrother Romance

Rate this book
Seven years ago I made the biggest mistake of my life.

Slade Jarvis. Hot, ripped, and tattooed, yes. But also an arrogant prick.

Still, even at eighteen, I should have known better than to let him seduce me. I was taken in by his charm, even though I knew he really only cared about one himself.

He taught me everything I know about sex, but then he screwed me in another way before disappearing from my life. F*ck him.

Did I mention he is my stepbrother? Yeah. There’s that, too.

But now my real brother is in trouble and Slade is the only one who can help. My parents want nothing to do with him, which means I can count on them to help find him, even to help Kellan.

That leaves it up to me.

But I don't ever want to see Slade again, either... do I?

This is a stand-alone romance novel with an HEA ending.

Jesus, this shit was so bad. I don't even have the energy to bitch about the writing; there's too much else to cover. The step-bro H was such an irredeemable m'fing, asshole man-ho deluxe, he doesn't deserve an HEA. And the h? TSTL doormat to the point you're actually happy the H gets his HEA with her cuz that way no one else will have to deal with them. BONUS: maybe they won't breed.

This H is the kind of special shithead that makes me want to write an open letter to the author begging her to explain what the fuck ever made her think this guy was in any way likeable. NEWS FLASH. No real worthwhile female digs a man who's fucked his way through hundreds of women. And especially when he started it off as a 21yo male who treated an 18yo virgin, described as childlike and living in his home, the way he does the h. Seriously. WTF is wrong with these authors?

Maybe the problem is THEIR male role models?

DNF'd toward the end.

Safety gang: He's a whore. He's way past man-ho. Even if we never "see" it. The h was so horribly used by him (conned her out of her virginity by telling her ILY all so that their "parents" would catch them later on after he'd spent the summer "breaking her in" and he was off to grad-school a few days later anyway. The h was obviously devastated and felt betrayed and the H didn't give a shit, he was too keen on pissing his dad off.) And when they reunite, she doesn't even give him any grief, she's too turned on by his asshole stud routine. She's just a shameless hussy and throws her sopping panties at him the first chance she gets. (*eye-m'fing-roll*)

Take away her woman-card.
She. Is. Unworthy.

And this is unworthy of any more of my words...

Quote (h's inner thought on H):
----
“You asshole, I thought, stealing a glance at Slade as he chatted up yet another stewardess, who burst into a fit of laughter at one of his lewd jokes. I really thought [he was] falling for me. My stepbrother was one hell of an actor, too—I’d never felt that way about anyone since.

You’re idealizing him again, I reminded myself, chewing on some of the ice from my ginger ale. You’ve talked to him. Who he is now, not seven years ago, is what matters. And who he is now is a guy who’s clearly never lost a minute of sleep over what he did to you, or how he tore apart your family. Hell, he could barely even muster enough human decency to give a shit about Kellan.”
----
Real fucking winner right there.

Genre: erotic romance

The H is probably the biggest d-bag I read in months, maybe years. To add to it, he is a doctor. A doctor with a God Complex, natch. It's a bloody miracle that his head can fit thru the door.

Slade and Iris -adult step siblings who hooked up. Slade is hurt and never grieved properly for the death of his mom. Iris was just gullible enough to fall for Slade's BS and it is major BS. Slade is cocky and 'cock sure' while Iris has this phoney innocence(step father painting her as an angel while throwing his son away) about her. Her character isn't unlikeable but just needed to be a bit stronger to deal with her counter part's 'in your face' personality. The dysfunction is clear throughout this book but the book (for me) never clears up the issues between Slade and his a-hole of a dad. In the end it cleans up nicely with Kallan (recovering junkie younger brother, Slade and Iris.

Slade Jarvis had a plan and a pawn, his stepsister Iris. He pursued her until she fell into his arms professing to love her until the end of time. However it was a ploy for revenge against his father and unfortunately Iris was just a way to exact it.

Seven years later Iris is back and needs Slade's help. He may have walked away thinking revenge was the best medicine for him, but he didn't think about the stepbrother who saw him as his hero and who now has turned to drugs. Slade doesn't want to help and pushes Iris too far but reluctantly agrees, all the emotions that once were part of who they were are back in full force, can Iris forgive Slade and can he forgive himself?

There were elements I liked about this story but Slade was such a jerk had a hard time wanting to root for him. Good storyline and I get Slade was young when he came up with his crazy plan but I really felt for Iris. Might reread at a later date to see if I feel differently.

I received this as an ARC copy from the author.
Iris' mum and Slade's dad are married and they all live together along with Iris' little brother Kellan. The book starts with an epilogue 7 years previous. Iris is an 18 year old virgin who falls for her step brother Slade who is a bit older than her at 21. Slade encourages Iris over a couple of months until she falls in love with him and they start a sexual relationship. Slade's plan is that when their parents find out about the relationship they will freak out and split up so Slade engineers things so that his dad walks in on them having sex in the pool house. Slade's plan backfires in a big way because his dad sends him away and the rest of the family stay together.
Cut to 7 years later and Slade is a dick head. He is an ER doctor who thinks he is gods gift to women, patients and every other living being on the face of the earth. Iris still thinks about Slade but tries not to as his name cannot be mentioned in the family house. Kellan is now in with the wrong crowd and has been missing for a week. After idolising Slade during his childhood, Iris wonders if finding Slade and asking for his help might jut encourage Kellan to come home. WRONG.
The rest of the story is Slade being a dick to Iris and Iris allowing it because she wants his dick. We find out why Slade acts the way he does which goes some way to excuse some of his behaviour.
I did like the story. Mostly. Im all for taboos but i am not into a fornicating couple calling each other 'bro' and 'sis' :-/ And their parents hadn't been married to each other long enough for the step thing to be an issue really, Iris and Slade were adults when they met so the fact that Iris called Gabe 'dad' seemed ridiculous to me. Things did move quite quickly and some of the story was far fetched. Im not sure Iris would've forgiven and forgotten quite as quickly as she did just because Slade has an impressive girth.
Writing wise it felt a little rushed. Some of the adjectives were lazy 'a brilliant doctor like myself' 'its so fucking big' and such like. The sex scenes felt like they were trying too hard. 'filling her with my creamy cum' 'filling her snatch with my rod' - snatch? really? urgh! It wasn't *that predictable really, i mean, she didn't end up pregnant!

I had read another book by this author for review this was included in that read. I have to say you are for an real treat. This is a stepbrother book. Yip, as you would hope some really hot and steamy parts as well. Such a great book.

Slade Jarvis had a lot of bitterness toward his dad. He spent more time hating him instead of just talking out what he was feeling. He was arrogant, rebellious, and oh so handsome. He had a thing for his stepsister though he would not admit his true reasoning behind it. He kept telling himself that he was just using her to hurt his father.

Iris Walker was so in love with her stepbrother. At first she believed that he loved her and would never truly hurt her. She never would of dreamed he would of used her the way he did. It hurt more then she would of like to admit.

Seven long years later and Iris finds herself having to go find her stepbrother. She had hoped he was out of her life for good but her younger brother Kellan is in some serious trouble. It is life or death and Iris feels only Slade can truly help.

I found it surprising that Slade grew up to be a doctor. All the women including nurses were attracted to him. He was one that never allowed himself to get close. When women became clingy he cut all ties. Slade had some pretty deep inward scares. He has a lot of growing up and healing that needs to take place before he can truly help those that truly need him.

This makes the 3rd book I have read of this author. Yesterday I sit down and read 3 book from this author and I found it hard to put down each book. She truly has a talent when it comes to writing. You never know where the story is going to take you.

I started off by reading the sample online and I was hooked. I couldn't put it down and had to get it. Once I did, the book just flew by.

While it was addictive, it was also really rushed. I loved the tension between Slade and Iris, they had amazing chemistry...but they went from an adversarial relationship to being in love in the blink of an eye. I just didn't buy it. It was like someone hit them with a 2x4 and they realized they were in love. I just needed more build up for that to happen.

I also had issues with Slade's rapid change in attitude toward his father and step-mother. It just all happened too soon.

Overall, this had the potential to be awesome, if it had been fleshed out a little.

Conceded, arrogant, and self loving manw#ore that will use is own stepsister’s body and love to get back at his father and his stepmother. Thankfully he only flirted with women in this whole story never anything else other then with Iris. That’s a positive note, the bad is that he used her again 7 years later to make his point but unlike 7 years ago this time his heart forced him to stay and fight instead of running away and into the next women to erase his feelings. This time his fight isn’t just for Iris but for her full blooded brother that’s on thin ice with what he thinks he knows of why Slade left and the lies Slade’s father told Kellen (he has is own story out). Slade will need to right the wrongs he’s been cause since he lost his mother at 12.

I'm not really into the whole step-siblings semi-incest thing, but this book was a bonus from another book I bought from the author, so I read it because, well it was a free book, so how could I not?
If you can ignore the whole step-siblings incest thing, the book is ok, if you don't have anything else to read, and you got it for free.
There isn't really any depth in the characters, and I felt like Slate changed (and was forgiven) way to easily because he had one aha! moment, after over 7 years of being an asshole

Almost a 4 out of 5

I read the blurb on the book and wasn’t exactly sure where the author was going to make this stand out from the crowd.
But she wiggled her magic fingers and produced a book that I have to say that in general I was pleasantly surprised by.
The whole step sibling scenario is prevalent at the moment but this author took her very own twist on that relationship.
She dished up the relationship very early on, only to almost expect you to then completely disregard it.
Slade was not a good guy growing up and his step family dynamic as particularly complicated, and the situation with his step sister Iris at that time was more as an act of spite rather than an act of attraction.
His father being the man that he felt deserved his ire and Iris being his weapon of choice.
When he left home to study medicine, I think he fully expected to leave every single aspect of his youth behind him and that was the case for many years but unfortunate circumstances mean that they cannot stay strangers forever.
Iris needs Slade and she is prepared to put their less than stellar past behind them in order to garner his help to help save her brother, but is Slade able to do the same?
Slade has never eluded to being a saint in any shape or form and he has continued to revel in his manwhoring ways since leaving home, a leopard never changing its spots as they say but is Iris’s belief that he is the only person that she can turn to for help in her time of need, enough for him to side-line his attitude for a little while?
The whole is fairly fast paced and it brought to bear the fact that as an adult turning your back on the past and the actions that you may regret is not always as easy as closing the door on that chapter.
Life has a way of forcing you to see it for what it is… a learning curve.
The chemistry between Iris and Slade was sizzling but the pain of the past was also prevalent. They had a lot of growing up to do.
I was angry with Iris for the way she continued to allow Slade to belittle her much of the time. I got that Slade had issues but by not taking him to task she was only perpetuating his ego. When he eventually gives us a glimpse behind his shield and lets us see why he is the man he is, I begun to understand more but it didn’t excuse him.
I liked the story, I will say that, but there were aspects that just didn’t hang right with me.
The family dynamic was complicated in some respects and I didn’t think it needed to be.
The language used at times was almost inappropriate (in my opinion) , it was uncomfortable reading the two of them refer to each other in familial terms when they were sexually involved.
I also thought that some of the text wasn’t what I would have anticipated or indeed considered grammatically correct but I’m not the author and therefore it was only a personal preference.
In a genre that is already flooded with books that embrace this subject matter, the book certainly didn’t follow the standard format, it brought something different to the page and shook it up a bit- I just wish that shake could have been followed by a swift kick up the butt!

I guess it's my fault that I don't read the reviews first and end up hating this book. I really, really, really, am disappointed with myself right now. Shouldn't pick this one and read it.

The hero? Psh, as if he deserved to be called a hero. He is a jerk. Manwhore. Pendejo. He used his little stepsister, break her heart, taking her virginity for what? An act of rebellion to his father? For a doctor and someone who genius, he is really, really, stupid. I think his brain is in between his legs. I mean, he said he left so his stepsister will have a better life and I agree 100% but then he comes back when he realize she is his home??? He just realized it after he fùck her and left her again??? When all those 7 years he didn't even think about going back to her??? When all those 7 years he fùck every woman in sight??? I mean, it's ridiculous.

And the heroine? I have a little advice for her: STOP THINKING WITH YOUR VAGINA. GOSH. She always give herself a pep-talk about how her stepbrother is the biggest jerk, manwhore, someone she should stay away for yada yada yada and when he only glance at her, she starts talking about his dick??? And when he used her again and left, she starts talking about how she is stupid and yada yada but SHE FREAKING FORGIVE HIM AND LET HIM WALK ALL OVER HER and put his rotten dick into her vagina like damn where's your dignity girl???

Overall, I loathe this book. And the characters. Not just the hero and heroine, but ALL OF THE CHARACTERS.

Now, I'm going to read other books from the author. BUT, I'm going to read the reviews first. I don't want to make the same mistake again.

P.S I'm sorry if there's any grammar mistake. English isn't my native language.

This was a very interesting stepbrother romance with a slightly different twist. In this case Slade was a total bad boy who used his stepsister as revenge against his own father...but then left home to become...gasp...a doctor.
You would think that becoming a healer and taking an oath to take care of people would change the manwhore...but nope, that would be too easy.
When stepsister Iris is forced to put their shady and very steamy past behind her for a greater good and sets out to find him, the only person she believes is able to save her younger brother's life, will Slade's feelings for her be enough to convince him to help or will he prove himself to be the biggest jerk in the world.
I really enjoyed this fast paced and biting story about a childish grudge gone bad and the far reaching consequences of one man's selfish actions. It was as emotionally sad as it was sexually charged...Slade and Iris had an off-the-charts chemistry and I was very pleased with the end result of their mutual desire to set things right.
I received a free copy of this book for an honest review.

Slade and Iris start off this book with a bang. Slade was such an arrogant a** throughout this book. Iris was a doormat and was tough to like. Their brother, Kellan, is a drug addict and has been missing for over a week. Iris gets the brilliant idea that Slade is the only one who can help him (even though they haven't seen or spoken to each other in 7 years). Slade is now a doctor and works in an emergency room so Iris sets about trying to locate him. Slade was cocky and rude when Iris did track him down and yet she still asked him to come home with her and help Kellan. Iris lets Slade use her again and then decides to get mad, even though she should have suspected he was going to do it. When Slade finally does get his head on straight, Iris took him back way too quickly. The fact she didn't get Kellan's final message to her was really hard to understand, even though she was supposed to be college educated and owned her own business. In the end, it does all work out the way she wanted but her inability to stand up for herself and control her baser urges was too much for me to really enjoy it.

This story really had potential. I loathed Slade he was an asshole of the highest order, pardon the rude language but it's true. The way he treated the girl actually women in general was rude. Actually more than rude. And the way that he thought that he was God's gift to women was astoundantly arrogant. More than that but that was the way he was written. The girl and I mean girl in this one was very weak minded. For a woman who owns her own business and all she was rather meek. And aslo for supposedly her always saying that she knew her own mind? She was too much of a pushover. Also to call the man who married her mom, dad when she doesn't know him was very childish. Another fact that they called themselves brother and sister when they were intimate too was icky. They met first as adults. They really is no brotherly or sisterly affection at all. She also forgave him too easily and fell to his arms. And was too foolish in jumping into his penis.

This is definitely NOT like any other stepbrother romance I've ever read! It's so much more! It's emotional, crazy, twisted, sexy, heartbreaking and amazing!
Slade has some very bad hateful emotions that he keeps buried, which only fuels his anger for his father! He's on a path of destruction of not only his fathers life but his own! But in his path is the one woman who he seems to dream about ever night, the one woman he can't get out of his head no matter how many woman he buries himself in!
Iris is in love with her stepbrother! He was her first everything, until one day he changes it all and in the most embarrassing and heartbreaking easy ever! Ever since she's tried to live her life as much as she can, but when she needs help with her younger brother, Slades the only one who can help!
An amazing read I can't say enough about this book!

I was gifted with an ARC in exchange for a honest review.

At first, I really didn't like Slade. I had a hard time understanding his character and why he was so hate-filled. As the story progresses, he explains to Iris what happened when he was younger. And I could see where he came from, not that his actions were right.

I would liked to see a little more interactions between Iris and Slade, both in the beginning and in their reunion.

Explicit sex scenes made this a steamy book. That's ok by me!! There were a few descriptive sentences during the sex scenes that made me laugh a little. And I would not have reiterated the step sister part as they were having sex, that is a definite mood killer, unless you are into that sort of thing....

ARC read, for honest review..

Slade and Iris :
I gave this book three stars ,'cause I couldn't get past Slade's ego.
What he does to Iris seven years ago is awful! She being his step-sister made it even worse.
Now I gotta say, I actually read this book tonight in one sitting, a late sitting at that. Sienna did a great job ,weaving her story though, and that could have made this book a four star for me, so she is doing her job. Even though I personally didn't really fall head over heels for my hero. However he redeemed himself toward the end of the book(not completely) he stepped up and helped to start healing his family and himself.
So yes I would recommend this book . It gave us our HEA
Thank you Sienna for sharing your talent, looking forward to reading the next book.

This story funny at times and very sad at others but it keep you reading cause you really wanted to know what happens .. Slade was a prick in this book it really wasn't that he wanted to be that way , but it's the only way he knew to be . Slade's mom was killed when he was a teenager and he never got over the fact she was gone . He blamed his dad and when he remarried it all went sour . Iris came into the picture and from then on Slade had a plan to get back at his dad by going after Iris only problem was he didn't expect to fall for her . When things blew up Slade left town becoming a cocky Doctor . One day Iris went looking for Slade to help with her brother ... Need to read .. Be ready for cocky attitudes and maybe even dreams coming true

This book was ok, not the best stepbrother book but not the worst either. The characters, Slade and Iris were completely different, he was the biggest asshole ever and not particularly likeable, even knowing his reasons for his bad behaviour and Iris, although young and naive the first time, you could forgive her belief in Slade but the second time, you know what they say about fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me!! However, I think the worst character was Slade's Dad, he was just nasty and if he'd treated me the way he treated his son and his step children I'd never forgive him.

Good read with a few grammar mistakes.

Ok, so I hate to sound picky, but I have to say I am not fond of books that have a second 'surprise' book in it. This is one of those books. In this book, you get Slade and Iris's story and then Kellan and Parker's story. Both stories were a good read. Iris chases Slade down after 7 years to save her brother Kellan. Will iris forgive Slade. I have to admit, I can't tell you much about Kellan and Parker's story since I jumped to the end. Sorry, I just don't like when the inserts you read don't mention that there us two books instead of the one you are expecting. Other than this small flaw in my opinion, both were a great read.

I purchased another of Ms. Valentine's books and received this as a bonus!

I was hesitant to read this cause so many step-brother books are so similar lately that they're boring, but I really like this authors work and decided to try it. I am so glad that I did! I really liked this story and the characters. It was fast paced, had a unique storyline, had enough suspense to keep you intrigued, the characters were well developed, it had some sizzling sex, and was overall a great book!
I would definitely recommend this book!

Wow

I really enjoyed reading this step sibling story. It had me sitting on the edge of my seat. I hated that Slade who may have thought he was using his step sister as revenge against his Garber, but what he did not stop to think of is what it did to Iris or his younger step brother. I don't want to say to much as it was Dr. Slide that saved his younger step brother. Author did a great job on this story. Can't wait to read more of her stories.

This was my first book of his kind . I wasn't disappointed but i also wasn't overly impressed . It was a pretty good story your typical bad boy who is arrogant . the sister who is in love with him so she does everything and anything he wants her to , and an impressionable kids who turns into a trouble teenager / young adult . who gets his life straight after an overdose when badboy an sis come to the rescue . it was all just very predictable .
