Turn Me Loose

Rochelle Marks is working hard to build a name for herself that has nothing to do with her pinup-girl curves. She’s made mistakes in the past, and now she’s trying to stop her little sister, Stacy, from making worse ones. Rochelle’s done with being nothing more than someone’s good time. Even if that someone is the one-night stand who turned her life upside down before vanishing—and who’s just arrived in Paradise, Idaho, looking to pick up where they left off.

3 Taking It Slow Stars

 photo tumblr_newoyhbF7Q1sr0pqfo1_500_zpscgnkvg0l.gif

May have mild spoilers

Turn Me Loose was a little bit slower for me then the first two books in this series. The first two books I loved so much but this book at times slowed down so much it tapped dance on the fault line of boring. I would find myself getting up from reading and doing other things like cleaning. Both MCs Rochelle and Travis were likable. They had a good connection and the passion factor was there. There was some sexy moments and some really sweet ones too. But at times there was nothing really happening and I think if those parts were edited out it would have flowed nicer and not slowed down so much. I did enjoy seeing our past two couples although I would have liked a bit more of them. I also liked Rochelle family. I know this is going to sound crazy but I liked Rochelle's ex Lake. I think he really redeemed himself at the end and I kinda wanna see him get his own HEA. The only thing I really didn't like in this book was the end. It just ended so abrupt. No epilogue and I live for epilogues. It felt not finished and left me with questions like do they have kids? What happens to Stacey? Etc Etc..... Overall an okay read that would have been tons better with an epilogue. I still love this series and recommend it. It would be awesome if Lake got his own book just sayin'....Hint....Hint!!

Rochelle Marks has been a staple in this series, the sexy fun loving friend with curves. She has a big heart and a fierce drive to make the best of herself. Seeing her friends find happiness has underscored Rochelle’s desire to have her own happy ending. She’s no longer willing to waste time on someone who just wants to have fun. Rochelle has had her share of letdowns in her love life, but Travis seemed different, someone with possibility, until she didn’t hear from him. Now he’s back in her life, in a temporary position at the University she works at, wanting another chance.

Travis needed to sort through some things in his life before he could get serious with anyone, so his one night with Rochelle, even as unforgettable as it was, had to be put on the backburner. Meeting up with her again Travis can’t ignore the powerful pull Rochelle has on him. They have smoking hot chemistry, and Rochelle is amazing. Now Travis just needs to convince her he’s serious.

This was probably the least suspenseful of the three books. Rochelle’s sister’s problems translate into big trouble, and I kind of wanted to smack her a few times. She’s lucky Rochelle and Travis had her back!

I love Rosalind James’ brand of storytelling, especially with romantic suspense. One minute it’s all fun, or steamy hot, and the next you’re on the edge of your seat hoping for the best! Thrilling and addictive! A total recommend!

It's me & not the book. Very slow and I'm not feeling it off to read another book. This probably means that I won't come back to it. Sorry Ms. James.

There's a reason it took me this many years to just get to book #3. This just drags. I didn't really care about the hero or heroine and the whole plot point about the murder and then the drugs and all of that made no damn sense at all. The sheriff/investigator was not smart since you could see where all of this was leading. I don't know if James can do romantic suspense. The first three books in the series have all had some significant problems to push past (for me at least).

"Turn Me Loose" follows Rochelle Marks. She works for the dean at the local university. Rochelle though is determined to make better choices for herself and help her sister Stacy who is currently a student at the university who has gone off the rails lately. When Rochelle runs into a man who ended up becoming a one night stand (newest lecturer Travis Cochran) she is determined to keep her distance. However, Travis has not been able to get Rochelle out of his mind and took the position to get closer to her. When a young woman is found dead in a ditch many in Paradise are worried another murderer is in their midst.

The book doesn't focus enough on the suspense part of the book. I think it would have helped if Rochelle had been more involved in that side of things. Instead it takes almost to the end of the book for Rochelle to put things together and realize who has to know who was the murderer and then the stakes get raised. I don't mind the romance portion of things, it just got boring. Rochelle and Travis together don't do a lot for me. Reading about Rochelle and her obsession on keeping her sister in college and for her parents to not know what was going on with her (Stacy) was boring to read about after a while.

Rosalind James always delivers for me! This was actually the first book I've read in this series, her new romantic suspense series, and I really enjoyed it and can't wait to read the first two books (which I bought upon release). So, first, you can definitely read each as a standalone although, from context, I could tell that there are overlapping characters. And, second, I love both the heroes and heroines that Rosalind James creates -- they are always so real. By "real," I mean not perfect and yet, always crazy character connection and chemistry. Travis and Rochelle were definitely two such characters -- intense chemistry and both so real -- they each had a past but lived in the present with each other. It was fun to see the suspense twist in this one, too -- it was well done and such a fun read!

I would definitely recommend this to fans of romantic suspense -- this is a new to me genre for Rosalind James but I LOVE her Escape to New Zealand series. She is a go-to for me! This one also reminded me a bit of one of my favorites by Linda Howard, Open Season.

She'd thought she hadn't wanted to hear his story, because it hadn't fit her model of her dream man. But here were no dream men. He was just a man. Just a man screwing up and determined to try again. Just like her.

I've read almost every book by Ms James -except the Kincaids. I gotta read those.
I was really scouting the release of this book. This is book 3 in the Paradise, Idaho series.
There's a great romantic introduction to start off this book. Actually, Rochelle and Travis had met briefly before. Uh hmm. Rochelle works for the Dean of Engineering at the University. Travis is a new guest lecturer.
The POV is 3 person.
Rochelle is a divorcee (YES, her ex is an a-hole). Travis remembers their first meeting. So does Rochelle. She's had a bad rep that she's trying to improve. She works hard at her job but her bombshell body doesn't help. All those Nerdy engineering guys have other ideas.
I liked Travis and Rochelle right away. Their characters were well developed before the drama set in.
The supporting characters were fairly realistic. The setting reminded me a little of "Twin Peaks" and "Fargo".
Rochelle is looking after her college student sister Stacy. Rochelle is 32 and Travis might be a couple of years older. Stacy gets into trouble at the beginning of the book- this leads to the suspense part of the book. Stacy had ingested some alcohol and pills at a party. The BIG question is WHO is responsible for supplying the pills to the farm kids and college students? There's frequent vague glimpses of the bad guys and the ID of their leader is a secret. (wait until the end!)
The focus stays mostly on Rochelle and Travis getting closer- I loved how Travis tries to keep focus on Rochelle's eyes and not her chest!
I love Ms James' style of writing. The dialogue is just like how real people speak.
This 3rd book is much more gritty and heavier on the danger and suspense. The previous books' main characters play minor roles. This could definitely be a standalone.
There is a great HEA (Short but romantic). Not much of an epilogue. *I'm OK with a book 4-- Yes please!
I read this as an ARC (Netgalley). It's so well written, that I couldn't really tell that it's an ARC- it's ready for publishing and reading IMO. 4.5 stars
*The author's notes at the end, talk about the increased use of prescription medicine and the abuse.
I thought that this was very timely, considering the recent celebrities that have died from ODing.
Very chilling reading this when we hear about adults and young people abusing pain medicine in real life.

An excellent read that had me enjoying not only a wonderful romance between Travis and Rochelle, but also a suspenseful story filled with lots of twists and turns. It contains lots of little messages too. Like how the mistakes of our youth don't have to shape the person you are now. It also addresses the modern day concern of the abuse of prescription medication. The characters are wonderfully developed and you feel like you really know them. The story has a great pace to it as well. It's definitely one you don't want to miss. I recommend it.

A very basic romantic suspense book. Never really felt any connection to Rochelle and Travis. This is a second chance romance, but story was very slow. Realized too late I was reading book 3, instead of 1. Buying that one now. Hope it's as good as book 4.

Good, good, good: writing, characters, tension. And, Kindle Unlimited.

Rochelle Marks of the well-filled hourglass figure has been involved with too many men who saw her as a good-time girl---one to be used and discarded. And, yes, the blonde bombshell may have been a little wild for much of her life but at thirty-one, she’s walking the straight and narrow looking for a honest guy who can give her a happily ever after. During a visit to a cousin’s many months past she did let loose in a strange town with a strange man for a very memorable night, however. He never called her back. Then the man, Travis, shows up to fill a temporary position teaching computer gaming in the university engineering department where she’s the administrative assistant. Rochelle’s a woman forged in fire, though, having had a major role in looking out for her five younger siblings and she doesn’t give any one quarter. Especially not Travis. He’s got a thing for her, though, and he goes after her for all he’s worth. The secondary story is about her troubled younger sister who is there the night some drug dealers suggest taking care of a woman who might betray them, a woman who later shows up dead.

Although this is probably classified as a romantic suspense, I would call it more of a contemporary romance because, for most of the book, the romance had little to do with the drugs/murder angle. The two story lines didn’t really come together much until late in the book. Thus the romantic tension didn’t rely on the suspense angle. Now, I think it’s hard to write a good contemporary romance. It’s hard to keep up the tension and so often writers use weak reasons to keep people apart (I mean, come on—a man can’t get involved with his friend’s younger sister when they are both way over the age of consent?).

I liked this story a lot. Why?
1. The writing is excellent: great descriptions of locales that are atmospheric without being overly long; great use of asides, a little reminiscent of Grace Burrowes (speaking about a hot fall day after harvest was over, she writes “as if nature knew that the farmers needed to have their own chance at lazy days”); great use of similes and metaphors. A enjoyable writing style, including, for example, being clipped when appropriate. (“Rochelle’s day had to get better. Except that it didn’t.”)
2. Believable, likeable characters including a strong heroine with whom we can identify and a hero who is hot and sensitive and honest but is not wimpy or ridiculously adoring. Rochelle knows how to cut the crap and confronts weak or lying people full on.
3. Good sex scenes. This is definitely not an erotic romance but the scenes are warm and show the emotion beyond just heat. And, will wonders never cease---they are not filled with a lot of clichés, no “thrusting into her wet heat” and “come for me’s” here.
4. The author kept up the tension. Not excessive internal dialogue---just enough. I didn’t find myself skipping a lot of pages in this one.
5. I like stories when the hero is really crazy about the heroine. Not so much ones where she has to go after him.
6. The dialogue was good, believable. Snappy. Often smile-worthy.

Only complaint: I love that there is not a lot of repetition or beating you over the head with what people or things mean. But there were probably at least a dozen times when I didn’t get what the person was trying to communicate in dialogue because it wasn’t spelled out more clearly. Maybe just me.

So many of the Kindle unlimited romances are not that noteworthy. Glad I've found an author who is. I will be reading more of Ms. James.

Rosalind James is definitely an author that I am enjoying. It was a no brainer to choose her new book to review and I was excited to do so. Last year, I was hooked on her Kincaid sibling trilogy, so I crossed my finger hoping to have that much fun reading Turn me Loose. I bought the first 2 books in the Paradise, Idaho series but I haven’t got to read them yet (so many books on my waiting list!!!!!). Luckily for me, Turn Me Loose is a standalone novel and I really enjoyed it.

To those who are looking for a fast pace romantic suspense, you might be disappointed. Rosalind James is taking her time to build up the story until it reaches its climax. That is one of the strengths of this book. It is not an easy task for an author to build a slow pace suspense and keep the reader attention. The author talent is showing throughout the entire book. What struck me the most is the way that the author is describing the areas, the flowers, the city, and so on. My imagination was taking me directly to these locations and I could almost smell the flowers or feel the heat.

Throughout the story, we are navigating between different characters point of views. Most of the time it is shifting between Rochelle and Travis, but we also have the chance to get a glimpse into the world of the villain. That alone is bringing a very interesting dimension to the story.

Rochelle knows what she wants. Therefore, you better get out of the way when her mind is set on something. She is divorced and had been hurt by men in her life. She has self-doubts and some self-esteem issue when it gets to dating someone. Most of her life she was cast as the girl that you are having fun with but that is not wife material. She longs to have a long term relationship with someone willing to settle down and have children. She is living with her younger sister, Stacy, and is very protective of her. When Rochelle realized that Travis would be working in the same College as she does, her world is turned upside down.

Travis decided to take a job to teach computer science in Paradise, Idaho College. A couple of months ago, he met Rochelle in a bar in Spokane but never called her back. He was hoping to see her again and make amends. It proved to be harder that he initially thought. Trust is not an easy thing to gain and now he must prove Rochelle that he is worthy of it. Travis is not a typical computer geek, he can also be an alpha male. Growing on a farm he has that sensibility toward the earth and the plants. It is funny to see him work hard to seduce Rochelle. The most entertaining part of it is that she gives him a run for his money.

Stacy is a minor character that is essential to the story. At first, I was annoyed by this character. I was afraid that she would be boring and without any debt. I was wrong. Stacy gave a wonderful depth to the story. She is the main reason that Rosalind James was able to bring awareness to the prescribed drugs addiction issue that is exploding worldwide. The story deals with Stacy addiction, how it can affect the life of those the closer to us and it is showing how important it is to have a family to support someone that goes through that situation.

In this book, Rosalind James was able to get her message across. I always love when an author is using her work to create awareness and is doing it without sounding moralistic. It is a really good book, I’ll read book 1 and 2 soon and I recommend this one!

Turn Me Loose, can be read as a stand-alone, is the 3rd book in the Paradise, Idaho series.
The first 2 books totally hooked me on this town and it's sweet, sexy, and strong men!

This installment was a bit slow moving for me, although it starts off with a bang.

Rochelle is a hard-working girl who has proved that she doesn't need a man to realize her self-worth. Everything she has, has been earned by her - no handouts. Being a strong, independent woman she isn't looking for anyone to carry her burden and is used to helping her other siblings, when the need arises.
The need does indeed arise when her sister, Stacy calls for help...

Travis just so happens to reappear in Rochelle's life, at a time that she can't afford distractions.
With his reappearance, also comes some drama that neither are ready to tackle.
The suspense, as always, is exciting but it wasn't very hard to figure out what was going on/who the bad guy(s) are...and this led to a bit of disappointment.

Overall, this was well written but I think I was just expecting more from the story itself.

4.5 STARS!!

After reading the first three books in this series, this one leads as favorite. Rochelle is my favorite heroine of the three and Travis rivals Cal from book one, Carry Me Home. In fact, I think Travis is my new favorite book hero bar none.

Rosalind James does an amazing job with relationship development between Rochelle and Travis. Their growing attraction and feelings are so darn believable, regardless of beginning with a one-night stand. Rochelle is a strong, yet vulnerable heroine. Being divorced, she knows what she wants and isn't willing to begin something that’s only temporary. Travis is a confident hero, but has been burned in his past. Chance encounters help them to drop their guards and begin the process of getting to know and trust each other.

Murder and mystery starts right away in the book, but we get to see the relationship between Rochelle and Travis realistically develop before they are thrust into any danger. I appreciate that the danger and drama isn't what propels the relationship.

I recommend the Paradise, Idaho Series as a whole, but this book stands alone well. At the same time, Cal from Carry Me Home has a poignant role in the beginning of the story and knowing him from his previous book is a nice draw.

I have read all of the Paradise, Idaho books by James and Turn Me Loose is my favorite so far.

Rochelle is a tough woman with a full plate of family responsibility. She is a very likable character who goes out of her way to take care and look out for her family, primarily her younger sister. Unfortunately, many people take in her sexy appearance and assume she is just a dumb bimbo.

The relationship between Rochelle and Travis is sweet and believable. It is kind of a "second chance" romance but not one with excessive baggage from the past. Travis is an honest and stand up type of guy, which is exactly the type of person Rochelle needs in her life after having a bad marriage and several relationships with jerks.

This is a romantic suspense novel, and the suspense is actually nicely balanced with the romance. The suspense of this book is much better than the majority of romantic suspense novels I have read and I think mystery and suspense fans would enjoy this book as well.

All in all, this book is another winner/must read by Rosalind James fans.

This review is based on an ARC provided via NetGalley in exchange for an honest opinion.

This book was fabulous! It makes me wish I had joined NetGalley sooner so I could have read the rest of the series. It was a contemporary/ suspense romance. It kept you guessing until the end about who was the criminal mastermind. It had a strong heroine but just as strong a hero. I loved it until the ambulance scene at the very end.

I am going to preface this by saying the only books I have ready by Rosalind James are the first three in the Paradise Series. While i have enjoyed all three, I have noticed similar trends throughout all of them. Good looking, rich, nice and patient guy (almost too nice), reluctant girl with baggage, very real issues are addressed, some element of suspense (although the reader figures out too soon whodunnit) and I could go on and on. While all of the story lines are different, I would like to see a guy who has a little bit of a bad streak and isn't so perfect or the suspense aspect to be a little more suspenseful. We first meet the divorced Rochelle in the first Paradise book, she is sweet and sassy, forever the fixer of the family and seems to easily attract men. Travis, a programmer, but country boy at heart, moves to Paradise and accepts a job at the University in search of something more in life. Even though they spent only night together months ago, the attraction is most definitely still there. Both of them have some equally serious issues to overcome, although it seems Rochelle struggles more with hers than Travis does. There is also some serious crimes happening in Paradise and it finds itself at their doorstep. While the precious characters only made a brief cameo, we got to see a little more of Jim Lawson and I am looking forward to reading his book!

Another Compelling Story

This book twined a love story of Rochelle and Travis in the complicated world of real life problems. Attractive woman that is only seen as a toy to men, but actually a woman with loyalty, integrity and hope of finding her forever. A woman that always trying to fix and hold people up with her strengthen and love. A young girl who was feeling the pressures of a grueling college major and an evil man taking advantage of the girl when she was vulnerable.

Good and evil is out in the world., the people that help push the prescription drugs like candy, instead of looking for ways to solve the underlining problem are evil masked as good doctors.

Some people would rather take the short cuts but I never saw a short cut that didn’t end in a dead end or worse situation.

I liked that after a life time of not so great men, Travis came into Rochelle’s life and he was the kind that would protect until the end if that is what it took.

This series so far has been awesome weaving a HER with a strong topic where the men are strong hero’s and the women are even stronger.

So this was good but I would say my least favorite of the 3 so far. I had a hard time following the suspense portion of the book. I wasn't really invested in it or who it was... I can't really explain my lack of interest I'm not really sure but I could have took it or left it in the story. I did like Rochelle and Travis the MCs. However I did feel like the blurb was misleading. It makes you think they had this one night stand with a length of separation and he came to find her........ well that would be wrong. He shows up and happens to run into her. He didn't even remember her name..... yes he may have hoped to run into her in the small town of paradise but again he didn't even remember her name..... he did not move from Cali to Idaho for this woman which is what I thought I was getting .... a connection so strong in just one night he had to find her.

But it did work out in the end for me. I liked both of them and was happy for there HEA

My main problem with this one is that the couple is pretty much unrelated to the suspense plot of this story. There are some loose connections, but it’s pretty flimsy. It makes me not care at all about the suspense plot, and only feel somewhat invested in their relationship. The first two books involved the h being a target in some way of the criminal, in this case not so much. I also didn’t care about Stacy at all and thought she was an incredibly selfish brat. She acts 16 and nowhere near her supposed 21 years of age. She needed to be slapped several times and it feels like that’s wrong to say because it would be child abuse but then I remember she’s not a child she’s supposedly an adult. Eh. First two books were way better.

I am also really not into the fact that the villains die at the end of each of these books. I feel like it’s such an easy way out of the story.

I liked Rochelle from the previous 2 books in the series and her story didn't disappoint. She is trying to turn her reputation around after having a one night stand while on vacation. She thought the guy would call, but he never did.

Now he is working at the college where she works and he wants to pick up where they left off. She tries to resist as his job is just temporary and she is looking for permanent, but she can't resist for long.

Meanwhile, her sister calls her one night when she is in trouble at a party with her new boyfriend and can't remember what happened to her. Rochelle is busy trying to help her sister stay in college and out of trouble. Then a dead girl is found on Cal's farm while he is working the fields and Rochelle thinks things are tied to her ex husband and his new group of "friend's".

Good romance and suspense story.

Drug and scary drug boss

Life is messy. Travis and Rochelle have had many messy things happen in their lives and had lots of shields to work through to be able to trust or love again. I thought their love story was sweet. Stacy (Rochelle's little sister) is trying to be perfect and not let her family down and finds relief from the perfection in drugs. Drugs, murders and the risks involved in that life had me on the edge of my seat. Full novel, No cliffhager and a HEA. One more note about the audio book, she kept saying Spokane wrong so I couldn't use whisper sync because it annoyed me. It is Spoke-can not Spoke-CAne.

Rochelle's little sister is struggling with her college life and Rochelle feels it's her responsibility to straighten her out. But Rochelle is having her own problems because her one night stand just turned up in the Dean's office and he's the new professor. Travis thinks they should pick up where they left off - hot and heavy - but Rochelle's left one bad marriage and lots of bad boys behind and she's not looking for anything temporary. Now the body of a dead young woman, obviously murdered, shows up and now everyone is speculating who did it. A good read all the way through and a truly explosive ending.
A great read again book.

College life and opiods...for a start

Rochelle has always taken life by the cajones...and now is no exception. When she rescues her youngest sister from an apparent prescription drug overdose, she doesn’t realize that she’s stepping into something big. Then along comes Travis, guest professor at the college where she works...and a one night stand from months ago. Once the miscommunication is cleared up, the chemistry between the two is undeniable. Can Rochelle have an HEA while trying to save her sister from the clutches of bad guys? Not as engaging as the prior books but still a good story, and brings awareness to the opioid epidemic.

My favorite author.....

Rosalind James is an autobuy for me. And will continue to be but .... I forced myself to finish this one. Paradise, Idaho series is not her best. I really disliked Rochelle, the FMC, and her whiny 21 year old sister who behaved more like a
14 year old brat. Rochelle just had little to recommend her. The story had lots of steam and a murder mystery that was poorly done.
Recommend her Kiwi series and anything New Zealand she writes.
This series is not golden.

interesting, suspenseful & somewhat unlikely romance

But still very well-written, with terrific characters that have been in previous books of this series. Rochelle is a wildly strong female character, with an admittedly lousy ex-husband. Travis is the perfect hero, handsome, talented, patient & so, so calm (which is exactly what Rochelle needs).

Hello again to Cal & Luke Jackson, Zoe, Kayla & Eli (and Daisy, Junior)

Rochelle is trying to improve her life and overcome her youthful indiscretions when she meets Travis in a bar. There is a misunderstanding and Travis needs to make amends. There is also lots of drama in the backstory regarding Rochelle's younger sister and her ex regarding drugs and a dead body. The story was well written and suspenseful, lots of twists and turns. This is the third book in the series and I can't wait to read the next one.

Great book by a terrific author. Easy reading story, lots of sexy scenesAs well as plenty of suspense and mystery.

I've read three books in this Paradise series. All were very satisfying reads. All separate yet connected by the same town.
It is easy to see the author did her homework. Plots are well thought, believable parts I each book.

Outstanding

I enjoyed reading this book. The writing flowed easily and effortless, the characters were well developed and compelling. I like that the author addressed the over usage of pain medication 💊. Also that people can change for the better. The lovemaking was scorching hot. Overall a fast moving and compelling story.

Rochelle

I loved Rochelle's character from the very first story and kind of expected a different story for her. Love the message, her strength and her loyalty though and of course her very deserved happy ending. .

Good, but not as exciting as the first two books (either that or I am just more partial to the Jackson boys); romance over the top compared to suspense.
Disappointed in charge of audio reader, I mean not that it was bad, just better with separate readers for all characters.
