Imagine a land so dry that every drop of rain is like pure gold. And in the middle of this arid land there is a village filled with people who need more than just a few buckets of rainwater to survive. Fortunately for them, Tobias lives nearby. He owns the only wellspring in the desert, and it pours forth clear, cool waterâ water he and his son happily give to everyone who asks. He is lovingly called the Watermaster, and he believes that the water should be a free gift to all.
But when the Watermaster goes on an unexpected journey, the people realize in a whole new way the amazing gift he's been giving them. The only gift they really need.
God's grace is a gift more precious than water in a desert. It is all you and your children ever need. As our bodies cannot live without water, so our souls cannot truly live without God's grace. It is by His grace alone that we can come to Him and ask for the Living Water, which is eternal life. His grace poured out at Calvary cleanses our hearts and souls. So marvelous and matchless is this giftâ a gift we do not deserve, a gift we cannot buy or earnâ yet we need only ask and believe.
This poignant tale, first told in the popular Crossway book Tell Me the Secrets, and its rich illustrations uniquely capture the wonder of God's amazing grace. Let it help you share this vital truth with your children, that they may know the real Watermaster and receive His Living Water.
4.5 stars (5/10 hearts). I read this many times as a child. What I really loved—and still do—are the gorgeous illustrations. But the message is so good and thought-provoking as well.
Half a star removed for the son having long hair (especially since he’s a representation of Jesus).
A parable recounting the story of Tobias the Watermaster who provides water for everyone in the small village. However, when he goes away, receiving the water they so desperately need becomes more problematic and the people learn the value of the gift he has given them.
Parents can easily help their children relate this parable to God’s grace and the Giver of the Living Water of eternal life.
A picture book with eye-catching, imaginative illustrations and a captivating narrative will make this a favorite of both parents and children.
I enjoyed this story. As I looked at the book I thought it was going to be about the woman at the well, but it was about how Jesus came into the world and made away for us to receive living water even though we are not worthy of it. I would recommend this story for anyone to read because it was such a blessing of a story.
This is a story of the Living Water, given to us to share with others, and why we sometimes don't share what we have. It reminds me of the song by Carol Owens "Freely, Freely".
I love Max Lucado's books! This is a story of giving freely, when you have received freely. The illustrations are also exquisite! A good lesson for children and adults alike.
Lexile: 600L DRA: 28 I have loved this book since childhood, and I don't know if I will ever stop loving it. Max Lucado is a gifted author who fits Biblical principles into children's books.
Who are we to judge others just because they are not up to our standards? In this simple and sweet book Max Lucado illustrates that we always need grace.
A lovely book from Max Lucado, who does it again and leaves children with an important message cleverly disguised in the form of a children's picture book.
I remembered this story better than how I read it. Great premise, but I don't feel this story was as well carried through as his others. No memorable punch line repeated that will stick forever, you know?
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Max Lucado's childrens books. All the ones I've read have such a great message! I've begun collecting them all in hardback (hint, hint *g*)
I love all of the Max Lucado books and the messages he portrays through his stories. I have now purchased almost every Max Lucado book because I enjoy them so much!
I love Max Lucado's children's stories. Always intriguing and always delicately written. It spares discussion, and I think that is a very admiral trade in any book
This story is a little long for my little guy, but he enjoyed the illustrations. This story is about God and Christ's endless love for all of us, despite our many shortcomings.
The story of a village who desperately needs water and receives it from a great water master. There are representative suggestions to gospel stories and remembering to offer living water to all.
