Eight years ago, Cooper was dating the hottest and most desired girl in Ash Falls and on his way to take over his father's hotel empire. The thing was, it wasn't the life he wanted. The only way he could escape the life his parents had planned for him, was to give up the money and power that came with being a Chamberlin. And, that's exactly what he planned to do. At the end of the Summer, he was going to leave it all behind, start a new life, on his own terms and without his parents' influence. That was before he met Emma. Following her parents' divorce, Emma Thompson is the rock for her alcoholic mother and her younger sister. She appears resilient, and tenacious, but inside she's falling apart. She's seen what love could do to someone's hopes and dreams. Love was venomous. And, she didn't want to be its victim. So, she's vowed never to fall in love. But when she meets Cooper, she's left with the one choice she never wanted to make. It was supposed to be a Summer fling. They both had dreams of her own. Dreams that didn't include falling in love. No one even knew they were friends, let alone lovers. Yet, for one Summer, Emma became Cooper's entire world. And he, a reminder that love doesn't have to come with warning signs. Until one frightful night, when both of their lives, and the lives of the residents of Ash Falls, were turned upside down. Emma is left with one choice, run from the life she thought she didn't want, and the guy who stole her heart. She never planned on coming back. But, when she returns six years, she is faced with a devastating truth that shakes the very foundation that her life was built upon.
This was my first read from A.V. Scott and I enjoyed it.
Emma and Cooper's story flips back and forth between now and 4 years earlier. 4 years ago (after a summer of love) misunderstandings, betrayal and secrets caused Emma and Cooper to go their separate ways. Once Emma comes back to town though for her mother's funeral, a LOT of things come to light. No one knew the truth, just their own version of events. By the end though, the truth, most of it ugly, is revealed.
I'd definitely read another book from this author and I give Once Upon A Forever 4 stars.

This book is both heartwarming and heartbreaking. What Cooper and Emma were put through and how it affected and impacted their lives is so sad. That at the end of it all they get a happily ever after that beats all happily ever afters is heartwarming and incredible to see.
Cooper is a great upstanding loyal guy. He is kind, loyal and honest. He does what is right. When he meets Emma she slowly knocks him off his feet. It didn’t matter how he felt about going away he wanted Emma. She gave him hope and strength. Emma was wary of trusting anyone but kind and caring. She feared letting Cooper in but when she did we saw a beautiful love begin to blossom. Until one evening. One evening that was messed up in so many ways and tore them apart. An evening that baffled Cooper and had people manipulate him in a way that is horrid. An evening that had Emma run and not look back but stole 4 yrs from them.
When Emma comes back into town for her mom’s funeral things unravel. Secrets are revealed and so is the betrayal. Emma’s sister went to some serious lengths to get what she wanted and one of the things she wanted was to hurt Emma. Cooper’s friends showed their true colors and you feel for him as that one evening that took Emma away from him is cleared up and explained. AT first Emma doesn’t believe Cooper about anything which hurts him really really hurts him. As more was revealed, Emma sees that it was Cooper that has been betrayed, crushed and hurt. He was the collateral damage from everyone’s actions and deserves better. Cooper though is a understanding guy to a point and his love for Emma is unconditional so he is understanding of Emma’s actions. The others hurt him badly. He understands what they did but he is hurt. The twist of danger element at the end really has your hair stand on end and who set all the balls in motion will have your mouth form a O. Not expected.
The book is nicely paced. Not to faced or to slow. This is more emotionally driven by the characters. Each acts based on how the other acts on the emotions they are feeling. Cooper and Emma’s story the looks at the past and how they came together and their views of the night that took them apart is fascinating as it is glimpsed at in bits between present events. As the story unfolds of that night your heart goes out to these two and will just feel sad for them and hope that they find peace, love and happiness. The love they have for each other is paramount and seen in spades even under the wariness and anger. A beautifully written emotionally charged book of love and understanding, forgiveness and trust- about the story of Emma and Cooper how they fell in love, lost each other and found one another for a amazing happily ever after that will have your heart swell.
A tale of love lost and found and maybe lost again this story takes you back to being a teenager and falling in love for the first time. A time when you are unsure of yourself and concerned by the motives of others, it is difficult to know what is real and honest. A story about wanting to be yourself and answer to nobody.
Emma and Lizzie move to Ash Falls when Emma is seventeen. They move around a lot and Emma can't wait to move away for good. Lizzie is the apple of mom's eye and can do no wrong while Emma has to play the role of adult. One day, giving into Lizzie's desire to go on the ferris wheel on the boardwalk, they meet Cooper for the first time. Cooper is supposed to follow in his father's footsteps and run the family business, but all he wants is to run as far away as possible. That is until he meets Emma. He is consumed by her, and that's bad news for Ariel, the girl the whole town thinks he is going to marry one day. After a misunderstanding Emma flees without telling anyone why, only to come back four years later for her mother's funeral and to finally get the answers she needs. With twists and turns, and plot twists you don't see coming, this is a nail biter till the end.
The story is not only written from two different perspectives but also different times so sometimes it doesn't flow so easily, but the story is beautiful and if you were ever an awkward, self conscious girl, you will understand Emma perfectly. It brought me back to a time when I was willing to change my dreams for someone, and it made me grateful that I didn't have to. It showed me it is never too late to follow your dream and just maybe everything works out in the end. I believe A.V. Scott has a talent that I am looking forward to see progress and grow.
This is the story of Cooper Chamberlain and Emma Thompson and their on and off eight year relationship.
In the beginning Cooper seems to have the world at his feet dating the prettiest girl in Ash Falls and is destined to take over his father’s hotel empire. Unfortunately he did not want that life as he was about to give up on the money and move away in the summer but then Emma steps into his world.
After her parents' divorce, Emma Thompson is the rock for her alcoholic mother and her younger sister and appears to be resilient and tenacious as she is falling apart. She's seen what love could do to someone's hopes and dreams. Love was venomous as she didn't want to be its victim. Vowed never to fall in love she meets Cooper. Forced to make the one choice she never wanted to make. A Summer fling since both had dreams of their own.
Including dreams that did not include them falling in love. No one even knew they were friends, let alone lovers but for one summer, where they became entire world to each other as love strikes when you least expect it.
One frightful night, that will change both of their lives and residents of Ash Falls. Things turned upside down as Emma is left with one choice, run from the life she thought she didn't want and the guy who stole her heart. She never planned on coming back. Returning six years later, she is forced to face with a devastating truth that shakes the very foundation that her life was built upon.
Will these two find a way to be together forever or will they be destined to be a part? Life does not always go smoothly as we watch these two find their way.
This is one of those books that left my heart aching for the main characters. Emma moved to Ash Falls with her mom and sister when they had nowhere else to go. She didn't want to make friends, or have a boyfriend. She wanted to ride out her time until she could move away. After a series of events she leaves without telling anyone. Now she's back for her mothers funeral and dreading seeing the people she believes betrayed her.
Cooper has always loved Emma. Now he is married to her sister but it's not what he wants. There were so many misunderstandings from the beginning. So much hurt that could have been avoided. I hurt for both of them and what they both endured at the hands of others. Emma was devastated and heartbroken. She didn't want to face anyone, just get in and get out. I did like her spunkyness when she was confronted with her sister. I loved how she finally stood up for herself.
I was conflicted with Cooper and how he handled things so many years ago. I can't say much without giving anything away. He is undoubtedly in love with Emma but can he ever make things right? They both made a lot of mistakes but sometimes it's too late to repair the damage.
This book was written in a dual pov and went between the past and present. It helped to see what happened four years ago while at the same time getting the present story and waiting for mysteries to unravel. I was not disappointed at all.
This book was full of mystery, love, deception and so many twist and turns your head will be spinning!! It was Cooper and Emma's point of view and chapters that were 4 years ago and some were present day.
Emma was new in town and wanted nothing to do with anyone! However, Cooper wanted to be her friend and she told him that's all it could ever be. Emma, her sister and her mom moved to Ash Falls to live in her great grandmother's house. Although it was a quaint little town Emma didn't want to be here and as soon as she graduated high school she was out of here!
Emma and Cooper loved each other and planned on being together forever. One fateful night four years ago she did the unthinkable that would change her life and she would leave Ash Falls, just not the way she planned.
Emma comes back to town for a funeral and of course, sees Cooper. As much as she loves him, he now belongs to someone else. Although she doesn't want to be back there are things she must take care. And oh boy, are there a major twist and turn of events!!!
I enjoyed this book and was captivated from the beginning! There was a part where I really wished the author had gone into more depth when the story was climbing toward the climax. I wanted to know how we got to the current situation (makes you want to read it, huh?).
Sometimes when a story flips between characters and/or time it can get confusing. A.V. Scott handled both of these perfectly. Each chapter was labeled clearly, the story easily told, and the timing easy to follow. I found it interesting to hear the story from a teenage perspective and from a 21 year olds point of view. It was fun. The way a 17 year old reacts to something and how a 21 year old reacts to something are not always so different.
I struggled with the sister relationship between Emma and Lizzie. How could sisters hate each other so much? I understand that the mother did nothing to help them have a relationship but that should have brought them closer together. I also struggled with Cooper’s relationship with Lizzie when he should have been protecting Emma. Everything was not as it seemed, but it was still a thought that came back to me over and over again.
This is a different story. It is an easy read. The story flows, the pages flipped, and the characters kept it interesting. I recommend checking it out if you are looking for a fun book to cuddle up with.
I really enjoyed reading this story, it is written between the past and the present which helps build the story. I felt connected to the characters which are well developed and I loved getting to know them more. Watching both grow and be able to forgive and find love was great to read about. I look forward to reading more from this author.
This story starts off as one of those average love stories, but let me tell you that this is far from average. As you delve deeper into the book, the plot thickens, twists and turns in such a way that it leaves you wanting to read “just another chapter”
Emma is the new girl in town. Someone who’s always felt out of touch, not part of the popular crowd. She’s always hidden away, tried to blend into the background, but when Cooper looks at her, he sees anything but ordinary.
They decide to become friends. Enjoying time together, having a summer to remember, but as time starts running out, they find that there is something much deeper between them than just friendship. Something far from what they both thought. In walks that pesky little thing called love.
Even though they both have dreams to follow, other circumstances stand in their way. One fateful night, something tears them apart, but it’s definitely not what you think… Or is it? This is definitely one of my favorite books I have read this year.
You feel everything the characters feel, you get immersed in the story and find yourself wanting more once you’ve read the last chapter.

I had pretty high hopes for this book. After reading the blurb it sounded pretty amazing and I couldn't wait to start it. Unfortunately, it didn't quite stand up to my hopes and was kind of a let down. Overall though, the story was good and the story line was decent.
The part where Cooper sleeps with Emma's sister kind of turned me off pretty quick to the story. It took quite a while to draw me back in and keep me reading. Had I known that was part of the story, I'm not sure this would have been my choice to read it. Certain parts of the story seemed to drag or details seemed to keep being retold over and over in repeat. I think that the story could have used maybe one more round with beta readers or another round at the editor. I'm not just referencing grammatical errors but writing style or paragraph structure and it would have made the story better overall.
The idea of the story and the overall premise of the story were promising. The story as a whole was a good story and at times were intriguing and kept you reading. After starting the story it's the type of story where you want to keep reading to find out what happens and to find out why things happened. At times events were shocking and at times the story was heart breaking.

Well her mom inherited her mothers house in Ash Falls and that is where they are gonna live. Emma just wants to stay under the radar until she graduates and then she is gone but in the meantime her sister Elizabeth talks her into going on a Ferris wheel. All off a sudden she has the gun that was in the nightstand drawer and she fires....now it's four years later and she is back for her mothers funeral. There's a lot going on behind the doors in this small town you have to read to find out Reviewed on behalf of Once upon an Alpha
This book went between the past and the present, laying the foundation from the past for the current story. Doing this helped keep my attention, I kept waiting to unravel the mysteries. This is a story that tugs on your heartstrings and makes you feel the heartbreak of the main characters. They are star crossed lovers. Emma wanted to be a loner, no friends, no love interest, nothing to hold her there, waiting for the chance to leave. She meets Cooper, and falls in love. But that love is broken when she thinks Cooper is cheating on her. So, she leaves without saying anything to anyone. She comes back for her mother’s funeral, but dreads seeing anyone from her past. Cooper loved Emma from the start. But, now he’s married to her sister. Deep down, it’s Emma that he wanted then, and wants still. The story is filled with both main characters suffering deep hurts at the hands of other people. Emma is devastated by the betrayal of her own sister. I did get frustrated with the way they handled things in the past, but they both made mistakes. The question is, is it too late to repair the damage and find the love they thought they had? I was not disappointed at all with this book, the story flowed smoothly and kept my attention. I would recommend this book.
Cooper destroyed Emma, she left Ash Falls 4 years ago after that fateful night. Now she is back in Ash Falls for her mother's funeral. Cooper's biggest regret was hurting Emma, living without her has left him empty. Cooper wants to know why Emma left without saying goodbye. Emma was the rock in her family, doesn't think that her mother likes her. She is a writer, she hasn't talked to Elizabeth in four years. Cooper doesn't know why Emma left, is determined to get her back. Doesn't want to be part of his family business. Jesse is a cop, Cooper's cousin, Married and has three kids. Ariel is Jesse's wife, has three kids. This is my first book by A.V. Scott and I truly found it very hard to put this book down. This book is very well written and the characters are very well developed. I felt very connected to the characters. I can't wait to read more books by A.V. Scott.
4 Star Review This is a story that flips back and forth between four years ago and now and in the beginning I found it a bit confusing but I was glad I kept going with this book. Four years ago Emma left Ash Falls without saying goodbye to anyone because she believed Cooper was cheating on her. She is back in Ash Falls for her mothers funeral and she needs to face the past. Cooper wants and needs to know why Emma left without telling him, what did he do to hurt her and make her run... This book is full of twists and turns, mystery and intrigue and friendships that are not what they seem. Can true love find a way through a past that includes murder...... This is my first A.V Scott book and I really enjoyed it. The characters had depth and were easy to like. It was also well written, looking forward to more from this author

Things aren't always what they seem. Emma was concerned about her and Coopers relationship, things had been weird so she was concerned that he was cheating. one night while hidden in a closet Emma over hears her sister and cooper. Her feelings were confirmed so she runs , runs away to try to heal, but now she's drawn back years later to put her mother to rest and see that life has went on , but the hurt and feelings are still there. Cooper wants answers, why did she leave , but that's not all he needs he needs to know if his life has been a lie. I truly loved this story and don't want to give to much away. definitely a must read.
