Ivy Peterson is close to finishing off the men responsible for experimenting on her and dozens of other shifter kids when a rogue pack puts her in the Auction. She's resigned to a very short run as someone's unwilling wife, until she sees Edgar Chase in the crowd. The werelion looks as adrift as she feels after losing her mate.

Edgar knows he'll never love again after his mate's death, but when he sees the haunted girl at the Auction, he can't help himself and fights to save her. Ivy holds the key to many of the mysteries the Chase family faces -- and she might even hold the key to his broken heart.

Ivy just wants to finish off the evil entrepreneur who funded the experiments. If the Chase brothers want to help her with that, she won't object. But as trust grows into something more between her and Edgar, Ivy wonders if vengeance is all there is after what she's suffered. He shows her something more, something better. Will their wounded hearts heal and love again, or are they chasing different dreams?

Edgar and Ivy

This book features Edgar Chase, the problem solver and head of security for the Chase pride. The family has grown in the previous books, with each of the Chase brothers finding their mates, with the exception of Edgar, whose mate was killed in an auto accident a number of years earlier. As the story begins, the Council has infiltrated the Auction, a bidding process for male shifters to obtain a mate. Council alphas are looking for women who are held there and sold against their will. It's there that Edgar sees Ivy: defiant, beaten, and drugged. He wins the bidding for her and more women are found and freed, but he takes Ivy home with him to recover.
Ivy Peterson's parents were killed and she was taken to an experimental lab when she was a child. She escaped and had been working her way through a list of names of the men who held and tortured the children at the lab. She had marked through all but one when she was captured and taken to the Auction and purchased by Edgar. She is determined to find and exact revenge against the final man who oversaw the attrocities she and the others were subjected to. But Edgar and the Chase pride have the resources needed to go after the billionaire and bring him down. She has been a lone wolf for ten years, however, and when the chips are down, can she really count on anyone besides herself to get the job done? And how can Edgar feel so much like a mate when both of their fated mates are dead?

This is only the second book in the series I have read, the previous one being Cut to the Chase #4. After getting a glimpse of Edgar in that, I immediately bought this one. I love a (genuinely) sad hero and a feisty female storyline. However, the balance seemed slightly off with this as a lot of this book is about Ivy. The chapters are split - Ivy is always in the first person, and Edgar and the rest are in third person.

Now, don't get me wrong, the parts with Ivy are outstanding and had me in tears on more than one occasion. It's just I would have preferred to hear a bit more from Edgar; instead of it being Edgar and the rest of the crazy crew. Although them BEING shifters is a major part of this story, they don't actually do much. Edgar and Logan both shift, along with some of the bears, but that's about it. Nothing really from Ivy, who has the ability to shift into both a wolf and a wolverine.

This is a hard-hitting story, including a mad scientist, experiments on children, abduction, and slavery. However, it is also a story of love and hope, and yes, even vengeance! Extremely well written, with no editing or grammatical errors to distract the eye. I would definitely recommend both this book and the series.

I'm completely hooked!

I started this series three days ago. I'll just try one, I idiotically told myself. Now I'm heading for book six because I must, must, must know what happens next. Fantastic books! I love them all!

I think I’d like these better if I hadn’t read them so closely together. Not bad but not really all that original either.

Great book

I love this book and series. I wish that Ivy had gotten more resolution at the end, and I wish more questions had been answered, but I really enjoyed this book. The emotion and depth of the characters is amazing. I always say, the best books can make you feel the emotions of the characters like they were your own, making you laugh or cry with the characters. And there were several times in this book where years came to my eyes and I laughed out loud. I highly recommend this series to anyone who enjoys paranormal romance books with a ton of emotion and danger. Although I recommend this series be read in order to get the best experience possible as the books all take place in the same pride and family.

Great read. He came to break up an illegal Auction, but once he saw her, his only thought was to protect her. She had been on a mission to kill the last man on her list of atrocious people. They had both had mates that had died, left them surviving, till a lurker spark grew between them. He, and his family and friends, found the last man, but the man was tipped off and fled. What they found when they arrived was her baby she knew nothing about. Confused she ran, but it didn’t take her long to realise the only place she wanted to be was back with him and her baby.
Narration was awesome too.

Loved it!

I absolutely love this entire series. I know some reader said that Layla changed the rules but if you pay attention to each book in the series and to chasing the dream you realize she didn't change the rules she only made it so that everyone had choices in life and they could decide whether they will move on and be happy or

The Survivor and Their Second Chance

Isobel Peterson and Edgar Chase are by far my favorite amongst the Lion Shifter series. They are both more seasoned and mature about life. Probably because they have faced tragedy and somehow managed to overcome it. There was no mating pressure, or obligations, but mutual consent that they agreed to.

Very good

I am really enjoying the Chase shifter family, so happy that Edgar and Ivy got a second chance at love. Was fun catching up with the rest characters from the previous books in the series.

Pretty good at first, but it ended to abruptly to me without satisfying resolution. It’s like the last 1/4 of the story just wasn’t there, and then a happy ending was slapped on it to try to neatly wrap things up.

So Edgar Chase is the man...Logan may be the alpha but Edgar runs the show. I was so glad that he found love again after his mate died. Isobel was what he needed and he was definitely what she needed...him and his family to heal her and give her the family she never had until now. I hope that we do get to read about Keller and his people paying the price for what they did to the shifters, especially Sophia and Isobel. Great book and series.

Awful but good at the same time. Pasts of this couple is awful. Also what about Keller and those others from the auction. But Edgar finally gets in a better mood.

I love that Edgar got a book and finally gets his HEA. He's been through so much, already losing his mate 10 years earlier. He never thought he would be able to love again but then he also wanted to believe that the universe wasn't cruel enough to punish him for the rest of his life. And it wasn't.
This book brings us full circle. We meet Ivy as she rescued by Edgar effin' Chase from being auctioned off against her will. Come to find out, she knows Sophia! How ironic is that. The only problem, she remembers everything that happened to them both in the lab that they were held captive in so many years ago while Sophia blessedly doesn't remember a thing.
And there's a baby? My heart broke for Ivy when they found that baby.

Edgar is the security chief. It's pretty much his life. He wants to make sure that his brothers and their mates never have to live with the pain of losing each other. It's unbearable. He should know, he's been living without his mate for years. He also hates the auctions and wants to shut them down. That's where he meets Ivy. She's lost her mate as well and there is something about her that just calls to him. Can Ivy let go of the horrid past long enough to see that she actually has a chance at the future?!

Edgar's chance

This is the fifth book in the series. Edgar lost his mate years ago and has only been going through the motions of living when he is sent to an auction that has a seedy side. At the auction he sees Ivy and something about her calls out to him. He buys her to give her her freedom. Ivy is hurt during a fit at the auction and Edgar goes all lion. This book is good from beginning to end with a very happy ending. Read it to find out how Edgar gets his chance.

Does anyone know if there is a book that tells about Natalia's and Logan's baby or what even happens to her? I've read all the books I can find so far and none of them talk about it. I am just dying to know what happens, that was just one story that was far from over, it was never finished and was even continued in the other books and series's.

I probably shouldn't have dived into a second installment just after finishing book 4, but I didn't want to ready anything else. As a result, I got a bit burnt out on the series and didn't enjoy this book as much.

Chasing the Dream

I am so mad they didn't catch Keller and the shifter that's helping him. I hope they do further on, as he needs to be punished.
