This book needs some serious editing. This is not it’s only flaw.
They say I think I love you, then I love you, then I think I love you. It’s inconsistent. So’s the talk about wanting to be married and then not needing a piece of paper to prove love.
No talk about safe sex. No condoms used or discussed.
What the heck was the paranormal character thrown in for? Had no relevance to the story. I just couldn’t connect.
I liked that the H/h were older. She’s in her 40’s, he’s in his 50’s.
I forced myself to finish this book since I paid for it. I got all 4 books in the series for .99. I’m not sure I will bother reading the other 3 after this.

Cute cowboy story, but I took a star off for the pnr stuff that just got tossed in there outta the blue. It didn't fit the tone of the book and was frankly a bit ridiculous. And there were some editing issues that were pretty annoying. But the love story was sweet and the characters felt pretty genuine. I definitely plan on reading the next book.

A bit slow for me. A good romantic suspense with an excellent plot. The pace of the story needed to pick up a bit though. Overall not a bad read.

Adult to mature adult romance in the midst of Texas . . .
I very much enjoyed. There was more than just sex. There was a story, a life, a connection. Ana and Riley were a perfect fit. Riley's other life threw Ana fir a loop but she was resilient. Ana's life was way more complicated than she even knew.
Secondary characters and the storyline made for a good read. I love adult romance. This one came at a different direction.
J Scott Bennett did his job well. I knew women were women and the men had their own voice.

Awesome
This is a wonderful start to this series. It gives you a bit of suspense with a twist. I enjoyed how Analise became her own person. Riley "Nate" was her online friend. She was an author with a almost ex husband that was doing bad things. He was a retired actor who went home to run his ranch.

This is the story of Ana Lise, a romance author, after the breakdown of her marriage. She has been corresponding with a cowboy in Texas to get background for a book. After her husband threatens her life, she buys an RV and travels around the eastern seaboard and then drives to Texas to meet Riley. Riley turns out to be her favorite cowboy actor Nate.

I loved the premise to this book and wanted so much more for it. There were so many things that were good with it thankfully that helps overcome the little issues I had with it. For one, there were so many southern/country -isms that I was wanting to punch myself in the throat if, for some reason, I ever spoke any of these out loud, which, granted, I have done before, but never on a multi-hourly basis like these characters.
Also, our h was a little too perfect. She was so sweet, and so wonderful, and such a perfect mom, and ex wife, and friend it just kind of got on my nerves a bit.
Riley was pretty perfect himself, but at least he had the gall to have been married and divorced three times. I loved that, I don't know why, but in all the perfectness, it was such a relief to remember at times.
Also, the editing was pretty spotty. I try not to let that bother me too much, but at least once I had to figure out the words that the sentence meant to use. And the typos were very much present. It could have used some better editors.
The book was good, though, and I'll definitely try the author again.

This book's description of things was choppy, to say the least, and the dialogue left a lot to be desired. At the 74% point there was a random ghost/angel thrown into the mix that made things a little confusing.
I won't say when/where the random tornado crops up, but there is one. I don't remember a description of a storm leading up to a tornado but I live in Texas, and tornadoes have storms that they come out of... they don't just magically appear at random.
I'm also annoyed I bought the next two books in this series... I'll read them, but only because I spent money on them already.

The story was okay, and I actually liked the H/h. What ruined the reading experience for me was the ton of typos and other editing issues...didn't anyone read through this at all?
*SPOILER ALERT*
The introduction of the 'guardian angel' threw me for a loop as well. He was just sort of thrown in suddenly, which was jarring, as the story didn't present itself as being paranormal at all; it could have done better without 'Joe'.

The story was good, had some love scenes easily skipped for us who don't want that. Some cussing, fbombs. Then, at 76% into the book, it took a ridiculous paranormal twist. It just was out of the blue, and absolutely blind sided me. I'm guessing the characters were from a different book??? Who the heck knows? Not cool, not needed, and really ruined the story for me.

Although the storyline has potential, that is all it has going for it. The characters are never developed, and too many storylines are introduced. The proofreading is atrocious. Don't waste your time!

Yeah, I flounced it. The errors got worse as the book went on, it was getting predictable, the chemistry between Annie and Riley was slow to develop and I just didn't like them or the plot enough to keep reading.

Reviewed at Romance Is Ageless
When I recently started the Heartbreakers & Heroes series I realized that although I’d read the Honky Tonk Angels series a while back I hadn’t reviewed those stories at that time… so now’is better than never. Because I’m re-reading to get the stories fresh in my head I’ll probably be going back and forth between the two series – but that’s no hardship at all.
Cotton Creek, Texas is exactly the type of small town I love to read about – probably because I was born and raised in a small town, so it’s kind of like going home again. Southern Comfort caught my attention early on and never let go. Riley and Annie are two people who counterbalance each other in so many ways. Yes, she’s at a crossroads and is running from the mess her soon to be ex-husband made of their lives. But she’s also running to something – call it her own life, call it freedom but she’s not afraid of the future, she’s looking forward to redefining herself now. Annie and Riley have been chatting online for about a year now. Since she’s a writer of western romance and he’s a rancher, well the man has answers to her many questions and they’ve built up a friendship. Neither really expected to go beyond an online friendship, but life happened and soon Annie was headed Riley’s way – and life was about to get interesting for this couple and this small town.
Southern Comfort gave me several laugh out loud moments, some shivers up the spine as well as a really good romance between two people who have lived life and come out the other side with issues that can be overcome. I don’t expect romance couples to be perfect but I do expect them to fit together now – and Annie and Riley certainly did that. As I have read several of Ciana Stone’s works now, I am never surprised to find a touch (or a lot) of Paranormal mixed in to the story. So, yes, there are two light moments of the otherworldly in this story. It’s not a Paranormal Romance, but a Romance with a light touch of the paranormal – there is a difference. (although to read some reviews you’d have a hard time telling that) As soon as Kade was mentioned I knew what to expect but if you’ve not read any of her other stories it might have been a surprise. I think that touch just added to the story, but that’s my opinion.
In all, I enjoyed Southern Comfort as much if not more than the first time I read it. It’s a good solid story with danger, an interesting small town community, sexual tensions, family and finding a love that is just right for you. I had fun and that’s the whole point. I’d recommend Southern Comfort and the entire series to any Romance reader.

3.5 Countrified Stars for Southern Comfort
An author and a cowboy. They've become close friends over Facebook over the last year, though never seen pictures of each other or heard each other's voice. Her soon to be ex-husband, unbeknownst to her, is deeply, literally and figuratively, in bed with the mob (though I can't help but wonder where she thought the millions in offshore accounts she took half of came from?)
There there's the cowboy's big secret, that is really only a secret to his author friend, that he's a former big name actor - one she has crushed on for years. He also plays in a local country band on occasion, which is what I am sure caught my attention to purchase this book.
It's not bad, but perhaps had a bit too much going on? Especially when you throw in a weird hint of supernatural/paranormal. I haven't written off the possibility of reading more of the series, but I am not completely sold at the moment. It all seemed a bit rushed and things came together a bit too easily, in a bit too strange of ways for my normal liking. But despite all that, I couldn't help but like quite a few of the characters.
I did catch quite a few errors another round of editing could fix. There are some sexual scenes, but nothing really graphic. Overall, I am still on the fence.

Riley’s backstory includes 3 divorces from his time in Hollywood. Riley is described as a very thoughtful and down to earth man. I could see 1 divorce due to Hollywood lies, but not 3 divorces. The town really comes together to protect Annie from the threats brought on by her husband’s business dealings.

My review for the story portion stands as is. This review is for the audiobook. I had read the book previously, and the voice in my head did not match the narrator's voice. The narrator did both male and female characters, and made them easily distinguishable. The review will stand at 3 stars for the Audiobook because the narration was ok. Nothing that really stood out.
I voluntarily listened to and reviewed the Audiobook received from the author.

I wouldn't consider the angel to be a spoiler, because he really didn't seem to fit in with the storyline. I didn't get the whole paranormal piece.

This was tolerable – clichéd characters, inst-lust, poor SPaG – but I was awake and it filled in time. But then at 75% it went totally WTF??
There had been NO forewarning of anything paranormal before in the book and I checked the blurb carefully afterwards, wondering if I had somehow missed a vital sentence. Nope.
Yes, the title talks about ‘Honky Tonk Angels’ but that could refer to anyone. As it was I gave up. I had the feeling that the author lost her way at the 75% mark, decided to add in an angel or two (?) and blithely carried on.
“We have a telepath capable of communication with humans or animals, an empath who sense the physical and emotional states of others, agents who are precognitive, one skilled in retrocognition, clairvoyants, clairaudients, a clairsentient and those who have psychometric abilities. We also have people skilled in remote viewing, aura vision, one of our agents can astral project and we have two mediums.”
And at THAT point, I gave up.

This was an OK romance, with some flaws. There were a lot of editing errors (or lack of editing errors) which was distracting. The folks in Texas are way over the top in their folksy expressions (and yes, I lived in Texas for 30-some years). There was an odd paranormal element of a guardian angel and a paranormal task force that wandered through at one point. I'm fine with paranormal elements upon occasion, but this one seemed to be thrown in rather gratuitously. Besides the romance, there was a suspenseful element as the female protagonist is being stalked by mobsters that her soon-to-be ex-husband got crossways with. That added some excitement, but also left me confused as sometimes she was being very careful, while other times she wandered around town all alone during a local festival. So, yeah, just OK. I didn't hate it, but didn't love it either.

Riley and Analise met on Facebook when she was looking for information on ranching to write a book. Their yearlong relationship has strictly been online until Analise leaves her cheating husband who is also laundering money for the mob.
This was listed as a paranormal romance and that aspect of the story didn't even show up until about three quarters of a way into the book. It was a little odd and totally out of the blue. The story between Riley and Analise (aka Annie) was sweet. He is a former movie star that Annie fantasized about. The townspeople make the book. I love their interaction and acceptance of the whole situation.

Once in awhile, a nice down-home southern charmer will do the trick, and the first book in the Honky Tonk Angels series does the trick. The author gives us the small town friendliness and tosses in some big city danger. Even though this story was a bit over the top and unbelievable in places, and there are some glaring editing issues, I still enjoyed the story. The one thing that really bothered me, was the switching of POV without any warning – it really interrupted the flow of the book and there were a lot of characters to keep track of. So even though the book wouldn’t make my top ten, the characters were likeable, and the small town feel was there, and since I live in a small town, it works. Reviewed by Cyrene

When Analise finally meets her long time “chat” friend, Riley, she literally falls at his feet. They discover that they are more than each expected but just what they both needed. This is an exciting and riveting love story, which will pull you in from the start and hold you fascinated until the finish. Ciana Stone is an amazing storyteller, and she has woven a wonderful tale to begin her Cotton Creek Saga. The characters are so well-drawn, you feel an affinity for them right away, and the storyline is so engrossing, you’ll find it hard to put down. But it’s a fast-paced read so it’s easy to stay involved. There’s plenty of drama, a bit of violence, a little supernatural, some steam, and lots of hot, cowboy love. It’s all just enough to keep you entertained from beginning to end.

My second book from the author and I love how she weaves the story with characters I can fall in love with. I enjoyed the story, a great mix of drama, suspense, romance, second chances, family and small town closeness and a touch or paranormal. I am glad Analise and Riley found their HEA with each other, they fit. The journey is perilous, especially when the mob is after her. Love the ending.
The voice telling it is on my 'eargasm' voices, I love it how Mr. Bennett can change it to fit the character, emotions and circumstances portrayed so well.
Looking forward to the next one.

The voice telling it is on my 'eargasm' voices, I love it how Mr. Bennett can change it to fit the character, emotions and circumstances portrayed so well.

Annie is an author and Riley a cowboy. They've become close friends over Facebook over the last year, though never seen pictures of each other or heard each other's voice. Her soon to be ex-husband, unbeknownst to her, is deeply, literally and figuratively, in bed with the mob. When Annie leaves him she informs him that she is taken some of his money from his accounts.
Then there's Riley's big secret, that he's a former big name actor - one she has crushed on for years. He also plays in a local country band on occasion as well. The story had promise but it seem to fall apart near the end from me. I will not spoil.

I’m reviewing the audio edition. This is a entertaining story. I like westerns and this is a pretty mild story. There is a little violence. There is a little romance. The story is an easy read where the girl unknowingly falls for the guy she has had a crush on forever. Thank goodness the guy is one of the good ones. Toss in a sort of ex-husband and the story made me feel I was hearing one of the old time westerns. I enjoyed the narrator but I didn’t get any strong feelings for the story. The violence wasn’t enough to make nervous. The romance didn’t make me grab Kleenex. Maybe I just started this author with the wrong story.

I was looking for a western romance and saw this was the first book in a series, so I picked it up from Audible Escape. What I got was a romantic suspense with slightly older characters and ultimately was a good book.
However, I was not a fan of J. Scott Bennett's narration. Seems most of the other reviewers really enjoyed his performance. But his southern accent grated on my nerves and I wasn't a fan of the voices he used to distinguish between the various characters. His pacing was fine and there was enough emotion in the performance. Honestly, in the future I wouldn't search out books that he's narrated, but I also won't let it stop me from listening to a story I really want to hear.

I am willing to bet this book was not edited. If it was edited, then not by an actual editor. The book was full of mistakes. Having that many issues with the spelling and grammar makes the entire book really hard to get through.
Putting that aside, the story itself was enjoyable. At least it was until a random angel, who we are not introduced to at all before the very end, showed up. It was completely random and made no sense in the story at all. I skimmed through the rest.
I will not be reading any more of this series.

I thoroughly enjoyed the story and the characters in this book. What "older" woman wouldn't enjoy reading about an"older" handsome, kind, sexy man? I only gave it 3 stars because of the paranormal element and it really needed a good editor. Some of the mistakes are so easy to fix because other than that, it was a well written book. I understand the paranormal bit was to introduce new characters and books and to give the son a focus. I would recommend this book to friends who want an easy read.
