Alexandria King's life was ripped away, destroyed by the evil organization Sigma, and one of its most vile leaders, Madame G. Alexandria was imprisoned, tortured, conditioned, and trained to become one of Sigma's finest Agents - Agent X. Except, despite what Sigma ordered, Agent X's only mission became keeping the secret of her bloodline, and using it to destroy Madame G. She's willing to sacrifice everything to carry it out, even her own chance at happiness with her destined mate. Guardian Commander Rhys Fitzsimmons isn't willing to let the vivacious, frustrating female, who is supposed to be his mate, throw her life away, even for such a noble cause. When her single-minded mission almost destroys her before she can carry out her destiny, he breaks all the rules to save her. But her destiny was not as they were led to believe, and the real threat to their relationship is bigger than either of them could have known.
Marie Johnston is an award-winning, best-selling paranormal and contemporary romance writer. She grew up in the upper Midwest and planned to go to college for English. Didn't happen. She started college in accounting and was awful! Grabbing her inner science geek by the pocket protector, she changed to microbiology and medical technology where her only writing involved scientific articles and procedures. Eventually, she left full-time work for full-time baby raising but kept thinking, "one day, I'd like to write a book." Finally, before any more time passed, Marie decided to buckle down and write. She loves it!
I've been waiting for this story for what seems like forever, but in reality has been less than a year. ;)
We finally learn more about Agent X and Rhys, along with the nefarious deeds of the Councils. No spoilers, though. You need to read it yourself.
I have to admit, I was a little disappointed that Alex (Agent X) didn't spend a lot of one on one time with Rhys. Their relationship has been teased and hinted at throughout several books, which I loved. Rhys would do anything for his mate, including let her go when she needed time to herself. And the sadistic part of me loved it whenever he had to talk to Demetrius. Seriously can't wait for that vampire's story!
Overall, it was a great ending to this series. So happy that two more series are in the works by Marie Johnston. Whoo-hoo!
The last book in the series and what a book to wrap the series up with! It centres on the romance between Agent X/Alex and the Guardian commander Rhys and it was the best book in the series. When we met Alex in book 1, I was sure I was never going to like her but she has grown on me throughout the series. Her humour and sassiness gave me many a giggle and until the end of the last book, I really couldn’t work out what her true intention was or why she would pick and choose when to be ‘evil’.
Alex and Rhys have suspected since they first met that they were mates which probably explains why so many Guardians lived to tell the tale after meeting up with her and E on the battlefield. The book starts with Rhys plotting with Demetrius to rescue her after Madame G punishes her for helping E to escape with his family. We learn who in the Lycan Council worked with Madame G to rid the world of Hybrids and who on the Council is so against inter species mating that they kill as many non-shifter mates as they can whilst Madame G kills of, or uses as many non-vampire mates as she can.
After Rhys rescues Alex, he takes her back to the Guardian Lodge where she finds herself feeling extremely awkward around the rest of his pack. Especially since she has fought many of the Guardians in the past and they have the scars to prove it! Although she’s free and healed, Alex struggles to work out exactly who she is and takes off to try and ‘find’ herself. Unknown to her, Rhys is also arrested by the Council and they don’t take too kindly to the news that Alex is his mate and decide to use him to draw her in so in a complete role reversal, Alex finds herself having to rescue Rhys from the Council compound and whilst there, they find the proof they need of the Council’s corruption in the shape of 3 prisoners that very few people know exist.
The suspense is prominent right until the end and I’m so happy that Alex got her HEA. A new paranormal world is on their horizon and I’m happy that another series has developed from this one revolving around the vampires rather than the shifters. Considering what I’ve been like with this series though, I think I might wait until the series is complete and buy the books all in one go. I really don’t think I’d cope with having to wait months between each book!
I rarely give 5 stars but this book definitely gets that honour.
X and Rhys's story was good but hopefully is not the end to the Guardians. I would like to see the twins story. And what about Ronnie and Parrish? Hope they series continues.
Alex is badass and the perfect mate for Rhys. I'm glad she was the one to kill Madame G and she took on the council enforcer to save her mate. I was hoping she would have a baby.
I have a new shifter/paranormal favorite author and it's Marie Johnston. This set has revived my interest in paranormal romance instead of waiting for a new book to come out. The story weaving through each book and how each character remained such an integral part of the series is captivating! Made me want to keep reading and what was going to happen next. I was not disappointed. The finale with X and all the coming to terms with past was exceptionally written and not dragged on. I have come to love all these characters, E, Bennett, Dani, and most especially X.....Well worth the read, won't give a damn thing away. Read the books, to tally worth it.
This romance shifter novel can be read as a stand alone, also I think you`ll enjoy it more when you start with book one (Fever Claim) of this series. The love story is self-contained, but the background story builds up from book to book. Agent X`s story gives the reader a deeper insight into the Sigma organization and into the world of the Guardians. It will be action packed and brutal, because Agent X is given the opportunity to retaliate.
Let me preface this with you definitely need to read this book AFTER you read all the previous books before hand. That being said it’s wonderful! Marie really managed to get all the loose ends tied up and still managed to have beautiful love story. It was perfect! Better than I could’ve thought!
Totally love this series, well worth paying for. I couldn’t put it down until I had gone through them all. The story line and characters have such depth you couldn’t help but champion them. It’s even more captivating how the truly good guys emerged from all the violence.
Great wrap up to this part of the series and looking forward to next series...hope to get the occasional check back with the Shifters, Vamps and especially the Hybrids to see how everyone is doing in the future and celebrate their HEAs... 5 Stars
Last of the 5 and it was awesome! After getting tidbits through out the other stories about X and Rhys it was great finally getting their story done. Oh and I love Payback. Lol Absolutely loved this series, a definite must read for paranormal romance readers.
Like the story but disliked all the secondary characters: they were judgemental, prejudice and weak! I read books to get away from reality; places better then where I live and all the secondary characters I live among them in this book.
A great shifter series. Perfect ending to their story which of course has the pair leading a revolt against the ones responsible for numerous deaths of not only their own but other innocents as well. Worth the read - loved it.
I came into this story in the middle, but I had no problem understanding what was going on and enjoying it. I will be going back to read what I missed.
Enjoyed the final book of Sigma Menace series. I like how Agent X changed to Alex. You knew she was someone else. I am glad she the happy ending that was due to her and the Commander.
Great ending for Alex and the commander took long enough now I can't wait to get to the 2 spinoffs hope they are just as good which I'm sure they will be
I could predict a lot of things that happened but that's because so many of them were set up so nicely earlier in the series. Overall it was a good end to the series.
Pure fun. Spunky Agent X has been my favorite from the beginning and her story with Rhys doesn't disappoint. A gent X has to transform herself once again to become "Alex" and Rhys' mate. Agent X's last assignment is to rescue her mate from the crooked council. In the meantime, Rhys, Alex, Mercury, Bennet, the twins, E and Demetrius must all come together to confront the council. This installment wraps up the Sigma Menace once and for all with the fall of Madam G and the Council on the way out. Maybe shifters, vampires, humans and hybrids can finally live in peace with their mates...until the next threat comes along. The editing is still bad but alas, this is the end of this series! On my Were Scale of Hotness, 4 stars.
I really liked the choice of taking down the big bad early in the story and focusing on Alex's recovery from the trauma she has been through in the past twelve year. It felt realistic and organic that she needed time to heal in all ways after everything that has happened. I also really liked that one of the other big background threats was resolved as the series draws to a close. Just enough stressors left to leave the possibility of futures connected series open.
Great ending to this series. Finally learn all about Agent X and how she ended up with the Sigma group. Rhys and Alex (Agent X) have a lot to get through before they can really mate. Great storyline, sexy shifters and vampires, funny moments as well as hot moments. This may be the end of this series but I look forward to the spinoff series with the hot vampire Demetrius.
Omg why does it have to end!!!! I know she is writing spin off series, but there are still guardians that aren't mated.... What's going on with the new council, I need answers!!!!!!
So I really enjoyed this one... I mean it seemed a little anticlimactic to have Madame G done so soon and I couldn't really see where else the storyline would go... But wow it blew me away
I couldn't stop reading at all. I really love Alex she's so spunky! I mean her and Rhys are awesome together I love her be the fact they they fit so well together (I know they all do but still they're just so much better)
I mean its left it well ended up totally open for if there was to be more for the series... And clearly I need to check out her other series to finish the story... Will be doing that :)
Overall it seemed a little rushed and I could really have used more between Alex and her brother and his mate... It would have been great to see them interacting and see Alex growing into herself with the blessing of her big brother :)
