Zoomer, Dozy, Hey-Ho-Howdy, Sob, Snort, Tremble and Smooch. Um, who?
Why they're your very own
DINOS TO GO
Seven different dinosaurs dash, crawl, frolic, mope, stomp, shudder and glide through this lively Boynton board book.
Guided by the colorful picture tabs, children can find whichever quirky dinosaur they want. Great to read at home, or in the car, the train, the plane, or the time machine.
Sandra Keith Boynton is an American humorist, songwriter, director, music producer, children's author, and illustrator. Boynton has written and illustrated over eighty-five books for children and seven general audience books, as well as over four thousand greeting cards, and seven music albums. She has also designed calendars, wallpaper, bedding, stationery, paper goods, clothing, jewelry, and plush toys for various companies.
Dinos To Go invites the reader to explore and experience new feelings and emotions. The personalities of seven dinosaurs: Zoomer, Dozy, Hey-Ho-Howdy, Sob, Snort, Tremble, and Smooch, are accompanied by their own different feelings and emotions. Each colorful page is dedicated to its own dinosaur, and in turn, a different feeling. The different dinosaurs can be guided by tabs so that each one can be quickly and easily found.
A major theme in this book is learning how to regulate emotions by becoming aware of them.
I personally thought Sandra Boynton’s pairing of emotions with a specific dinosaur was genius. With each turn of the page, colors associated with each feeling greet the reader for a fun way to become more familiar with recognizing emotions. I was extremely amused reading this book.
I recommend this book because it is a great learning resource for toddlers. It exposes them to different kinds of feelings in a fun and distinctive way.
Jack borrowed this book from the Oxford Public Library as part of our quest to read all the Sandra Boynton books.
For weeks, he wanted to “read” it himself and would only let me read little snippets before he would take the book away and go happily flip through it. I finally got through the rest of it today. Jack particularly loved pointing out the different colors and naming the capital letters.
Sandra Boynton books are always delightful, and this one is my favorite. The rhyme scheme and rhythm are fun. All of the dinosaurs have relatable personalities; we’ve each sometimes been a Zoomer or a Dozy. It is helpful that the verses alternate between being upbeat and downbeat, so if you’re not able to do seven distinct voices, you can still change your voice each time you turn the page.
Seven dinosaurs each have their own tabbed section and funny rhyming story: Zoomer; Dozy; Hey-Ho-Howdy; Sob; Snort; Tremble; Smooch. Bright illustrations.
Much like my review for _Snoozers_, I think that there's a lot going on on the page and that it might be too much for really young readers. Regardless, I enjoyed seeing her versions of dinosaurs, which I hadn't seen in any of her books yet. It will definitely appeal to a good group of kids for that alone. It also features an interesting look at characters and their different temperaments. For example, one character has depressing and one has intense anxiety, which made things kind of interesting.
What I love about this one is that I actually know people like these dinosaurs. My husband and I will exchange looks everytime we read about Hey-Ho Howdy whose dinosaur song is loud, real loud. We both are thinking about the same person.
We used to own this book. Picked it up from Goodwill for $1 figuring it's Boynton O will love it. Not so, she just never liked reading it even when she'd pick it from the book bin. Back to Goodwill after 6 months so someone else could enjoy it.
This is a great book for kids from about 18 months for 4 years. All Boynton books have a nice rhythm that keeps the kids involved, and this on is no exception. The dinosaurs are colorful, and it's as much fun for the parent to read as it for the kids to hear.
