The Celaran Probe is the seventh book in the PIT series. Telisa Relachik studied to be a xenoarchaeologist at a time when humans had found alien artifacts but hadn't encountered live aliens. Rather than return to Earth with the modest spoils of the team’s first Celaran expedition, Telisa decides to proceed to another Celaran colony site in an attempt to find living Celarans. New friends and enemies will be discovered beyond the frontier, while big surprises await the PIT team back home.

Another excellent addition to the PIT series. I wait eagerly (and sometimes impatiently) for McCloskey's releases. Probe doesn't disappoint.

The series takes place in a post-contact universe — humans are aware that they're not alone in the universe and the PIT team is (among other things) off looking for artifacts. To some extent this book stands alone, but in order to fully enjoy and understand the various plot lines in Probe, I think you should read the others in the Parker Interstellar Travels list first.

The only reason this doesn't get a five-star review from me is that, while excellent reading, I'm not likely to read it again and again.
Some of the reasons I enjoy McCloskey's books are that they're enjoyable, well-written, well-edited, well-priced, easy-to-read and fairly quick reads. I am already eagerly awaiting McCloskey's next book and I will eagerly tear through it as well.

Back to form!

Mr. McCloskey snared me with this installment—it was quite good. We saw what happened on Earth, we meet a new alien race, and a team member—another one—dies.

Excellent storytelling. As with his best episodes, he ends before I am ready: I am buying the next installment now. Well done!

Great Series

I have been looking for a series like this for years. I love that it combines exploration, alien intelligence, teamwork, tech and great characters in a SciFi context. It feels a little like Orson Scott Card mixed with Isaac Asimov. Looking forward to more from this author.

A very good book

Looking forward to the next book in the series. As with the previous book in this series it had some slow spots, but overall a good story.

Better page by page

I read on. This is a good story and is keeping me up late. I tend to read slowly and don't read every night.
I recommend this series to sci-fi readers.

The Celaran Probe is an excellent book. I would recommend it to anyone that enjoys sci-fi as well as a detailed storytelling experience. While it can drag out some of the exposition in some areas, everything is well set up to tie all of the subplots together without leaving too much hanging and slowing down the main story.
