The Garage #2

Breaking Down

Rate this book
It had been two months since I laid eyes on the man who made my heart race, set my body on fire, and infuriated me more than anyone I had ever met. It had been two months since Gabe had given me the best night of my life then walked away without a backwards glance.

But today his best friend was marrying my best friend, and avoiding each other was no longer an option. But just like every great Maid of Honor before me, I had a game plan: Don't make direct eye contact, don't be alone with him, and don't trust him.

Gabe had already broken me once, and there was no way I would be breaking down for him again. My happily ever after was buried at the bottom of the rubble where he left my heart.

This is the second book in this series and I loved this book. As soon as I started reading it I instantly remembered how much I loved the first book. There is just something about Holly Renee writing that instantly hooks me and I lose concept of time while reading. I love how her stories always make me smile and fall in love with her characters.

We met Gabe and Erica in the first book and I was so happy to read more about these two. Gabe is one of the sweetest men but he has a past that has troubled him. Erica is a great friend and a strong female. I really liked her in the first book and I loved her in this one.

Gabe and Erica had a night together and afterwards Gabe disappears and Erica is not only hurt but confused by his behavior. When they reunite four months later at Blake and Kat's wedding the attraction between these two is stronger than ever.

This isn't going to be a quick fix for them and this is something that I really enjoyed. I loved seeing them come together again and really working on a relationship this time around. It isn't going to be all smooth sailing but what they have together is strong and worth fighting for.

"You are my great escape. You are my courage. You are my savior. You are my heart."

I am so looking forward to reading more in this series!

I've had the honor twice to be able to have an ARC copy of both Holly Renee's books in the Garage series. Breaking Down came at a time when I needed a little escape from the passing of my mom up until the memorial service. Each book leaves me wanting yet another. I am ready for Johnny and Cash's stories. I encourage all to give a wonderful New author a try. Start with book 1 Letting Go than move into Breaking Down. You won't be disappointed.

Wow. This was incredibly disappointing. From the blurb, the book gives the impression that this is going to be a second-chance romance where the FMC makes the MMC really work and grovel for a second chance because he broke her heart once before... Well, Erica didn’t make Gabe work for anything, and even her friend and brother called her out for it.

Rant incoming:

So, Erica has feelings for Gabe, but he puts her in the friend zone even though he wants her too. Then something traumatic happens, which pushes Gabe to finally make a move on Erica, and they sleep together for the first time. The next day, she wakes up, and he’s nowhere to be found. He didn’t even leave her a note. And what does Erica do? She tracks down Gabe’s best friend and begs him to tell her where Gabe is?! Girl, where is your self-respect?

Then they reunite four months later because their best friends are getting married, and Erica has this thought:
"I refused to let him have that much power over me. I needed to be strong when I saw him. I couldn’t let a man that walked away from me without a backwards glance know how much he affected me."
... And then, just a few days later, during a camping trip, she hears him having a nightmare, bursts into his tent to ‘help him and take his pain away,’ and when he wakes up and tries to send her back to her tent, she says:
"I want to stay in here with you. Please don’t push me out."
Well, I guess we can conclude that he in fact has that much power over her, she just isn’t that strong, and she is letting him know how much he affects her... oh and her spine is nowhere to be found.

The day after, she’s the one seeking him out again. He’s literally in his own tent, and she just barges in. Then they do the 69... And one of my favorite moments in the entire book is the morning after when one of their friends says this to her:
"We seem to forgive and forget what others have done to us around here."
Yes, please, Johnny — call her out on her bullshit.

And here’s where I really started to get gray hairs. She then has this inner monologue:
"Gabe had already broken me once, and there was no way I would be breaking down for him again. My happily ever after was buried at the bottom of the rubble where he left my heart. My wall was built, and he was going to have to rebuild my trust if he wanted within those walls again."
... But literally in the next chapter, he invites her on a date, and she accepts with a huge smile on her face. Then she has this thought:
"If I wanted to go on this date with Gabe and actually figure out what was going on between us, I had to try to let go of the past."
Girl, what happened to ‘he has to work for it’ or 'he has to rebuild my trust'? It’s one or two chapters later, and she’s ready to forgive and forget?! I can’t with her, everything about her annoys me.

And then we get to my other favorite moment in the entire book: the scene where her brother calls her out. He’s just found out she’s going on this date with Gabe:
"Please tell me you aren’t that stupid, Erica." His voice was filled with anger.
"Don’t call me stupid."
"Don’t act stupid," he countered.
Well, if it isn’t her own brother calling her out on her naivete.

Then, when they’re on the date and Gabe is telling her a bunch of swoon-worthy things, this is her thought:
"I was such a clueless woman. My lack of self-preservation where Gabe was involved made me ashamed."
Well she should be ashamed because this is pathetic.

And then, after that one date, she throws herself at him, and that’s it... They’re together again. All that work Erica kept saying Gabe would have to do to gain her trust again was nowhere to be seen. He literally just took her out to eat, said sorry once, and that was that.

So yeah, this book was just not for me. Erica was, in my opinion, a pathetic FMC with no spine, no self-respect, no agency (all her thoughts were about Gabe and she was willing to not have kids because he didn't want to even though she had wanted kids all her life), and no dignity whatsoever. And because of my dislike for Erica i just couldn't get into the smut, i didn't feel like it was deserved + there was just too much of it, so towards the last 30% of the book i started to just skim the sex scenes - they brought nothing new to the story and no development between them.

Gabe, however, was great. I liked him. That last chapter where he proposes and buys that big house at the lake? Yeah, that part was great. Sadly it was only one chapter.

In this book you get the lovable characters from Letting Go, where you had Kat & Blake's story. Now it's time for their best friends Erica & Gabe.

Erica comes from a loving family Blake had the complete opposite for parents. He carries a lot of emotional demons around with him and feels he's not good enough for Erica. Erica loves Blake but he's hides the bits of his childhood that are causing him so much pain.
Will Erica's love for Blake show he's an amazing person?
Will Blake do what he does best run for the hills when he's scared of facing commitment?
Will they get an HEA?

Gabe... Swoons

I love Gabe's personality. He has that jokester, laid back, care free 'tude about him. I can't imagine the heartbreak he must've endured losing his sister the way he did. I think I actually liked Gabe and Erica better than Kat and Blake. Haha yay!

This book was just amazing. From start to finish I just couldn’t put it down. Holly has a wonderful way to capture you and suck you into her book. This is book 2 in The Garage Series. Make sure you check out book one so you can fall in love with all the characters there and continue on with their story here. This book is told from both Erica and Gabe’s POV.

Erica is sweet, sassy and fun. We met her in the first book and her and Kat became fast best friends. When she met the guys at the garage in the first book she quickly couldn’t keep her eyes off of Gabe. So one night when Gabe showed up at her apartment and let her in for the first time she knew she fell hard. When she woke up the next morning to find him gone from a night she would never forget a huge chunk of her heard was gone too. Gabe was not only gone from her apartment but he left for good. From that moment on Gabe plagued her thoughts and dreams.

Gabe is one hot, sexy alpha male. Gabe knew Erica was too good for him. He knew he couldn’t give her what she needed. But he sure did wish he could. Her wild blond hair plagued his dreams and thoughts and boy was it hard to leave her. But he had a past that consumed and crept into his dreams that made him feel like he wasn’t good enough for Erica.

But when Kat and Blake’s wedding brought them back together could they ignore the fireworks that are happening between them? Or could they walk away so they both hurt each other again?

This book was so good you defiantly do not want to miss out. You can read first but you want to make sure you get all the goodness from book 1 too.

Holly is an amazing writer. The first book in this series had me loving all the characters and at the end I was so upset to not know what happened to Gabe and Erica. You have to read the first book to find out how the love story began, you won't be sorry.

Erica is a sweet girl that befriends Kat in the first book. She has a zest for life that very few people have and those around her are pulled in. Kat was working at the garage and it was inevitable that Erica should meet all the hotties that worked there. It was immediate sparks when she laid eyes on Gabe at the bar, and the attraction grew as they spent more time together. They tried to pretend they were just friends, but the heat they shared was too strong to deny. Then they spent one amazing night at Erica's apartment before Gabe disappeared from her life. Now he is gone and Erica can't get him off her mind no matter what she does to stay busy.

Gabe is a man's man. He is tough, but even tougher on himself. Gabe's past made him believe he was never good enough for someone like Erica. How could he give her everything she deserved? He always has a way to turn everything bad, and he doesn't want Erica's sweetness to be squashed by him. She was much better off without him. However, he couldn't stop thinking about her.

Now they must be reunited because Kat and Blake are getting married. They can't not go to the wedding, they are their best friends. Can they deny the obvious chemistry and heat between them? Will they see one another and be able to walk away or will they have to be together again?

This book easily had me turning page after page wanting to find out what happens.

Erica has a great job and amazing friends. She loves hanging out with them and just generally enjoys life. But...there's always a but, huh? Erica has been falling for Gabe the moment she laid eyes on him at he bar. What's not to like? He is gorgeous, funny, and a great friend. He is sexy, smoldering, and a great friend. He is sex on a stick, tie me up or down, do want you want hot. Oh and a great friend! Are you sensing the problem yet?!?! He is a great friend and Erica would do anything to cross the bridge from the friends they pretend to be to more. She is so turned on in his presence and has been for so long that she can't tell if its just her at this point.

Gabe likes Erica, too. She's beautiful, funny, amazing. She has a huge heart and is kind. But...he is afraid to ruin her. He has demons that possess him at night. They take over and the carefree guy he tries to be is over come with horror and sadness. Someone as burden free as Erica should never be tainted with his kind of darkness.

Its a battle of the wills. Who will end up breaking down the walls? Running isn't an option any more.

I really fell in love with this crew in Letting Go. I was very eager to read Breaking Down. Gabe and Erica were flirting around in Letting Go, but you could tell something big was going to happen. Powder keg is more like it! Watch the fireworks explode and everything they think they know go up in flames.

I can't wait for Johnny and Cash's stories!

So Good!

Erica & Gabe… sigh! Starts off rocky then catapults to the fantastic finish, with a few bumps in the middle. Erica finally grows a pair and stops letting Gabe walk all over her- Yay! And the sex- woooooo is it steaming up the screen!

An ARC provided in exchange for an honest review.

I loved the first book in this series and couldn't wait to get my hands on this next book, which features Gabe and Erica. You could just tell there was going to be a good story between these two, and I'm honored to have been given the chance to review.

Gabe and Erica shared one special night together and then Gabe disappeared with no note, no word on where he was going, nothing....breaking Erica's heart in the process.

Gabe knows he can never be the man Erica needs and does what he thinks is best. He never meant to hurt her.

There's a wedding coming up and Gabe and Erica will have to see each other for the first time in months. Sparks are going to fly and true feelings are going to be put to the test. Will these two be able to fight to make a relationship work? Do they even want to or has too much damage been done?

Of course you're going to have to read Breaking Down to find out! And if you haven't read the first book in the series, Letting Go, I definitely recommend reading that one so that you can get to know all the characters!

Job well done by Holly Renee! 4 stars from me!

I really enjoyed this story.
The writing was really good. I wanted to shake Gabe at times, and why do women think they can't be the one to ASK what the hell is his problem??
These two stick to the friend zone until one day Gabe rushes to Erica and they just fall into each others arms and make love (well, it's a bit more desperate than that) ... the next morning Gabe is gone!

Months pass. Erica is beside herself with heartbreak. He thinks he will never be good enough for her. Why do men even try to think? Makes me MAD!
Why not TALK to someone about their thoughts, instead of brooding and making my blood boil?
Their relationship is filled with reluctance and hurt feelings.
I loved the development of the characters. The friends are so funny together, just how real friends are. What a beautiful ending, it brought a tear to my eye.
I will definitely be reading the next one in the series.

Breaking Down- Garage Series Book 2 is the story of Gabe and Erica. We first met them in Letting Go the first book in the series. I love the way Holly intertwine characters from the previous book to allow the reader to see how the characters further develop. With that said, Gabe and Erica are best friends with Blake and Kat.
Something happened in Gabe’s youth that he feels he is unworthy to have a relationship with a woman, which makes him closed off to only his closest friend. Erica comes from a loving and open family and can’t understand why Gabe acts the way he does toward her. He sends mixed signals to Erica and she must determine if he is worth the upheaval in her life.
If you enjoyed the first book in the series you will definitely enjoy this one!

The 2nd book in the Garage Series did not disappoint. Gabe and Erica's story has it's share of ups and downs. Gabe was emotionally unavailable to Erica from the beginning, not because he didn't care but because he thought he didn't deserve to have someone in his life like her. After their one night together, he disappears for months, when he reappears for Blake and Kat's wedding, it's like a powder keg about to explode. There is no denying the chemistry between these two characters and I enjoyed taking the ride with them as I got lost in their story. I can't wait for Johnny and Cash's stories.

So I liked this book. It had a great story.

Friendships, love, of course there is drama and moments that had me wondering if Gabe and Erica were going to get together or not.

Tons of flirting and when things heated up, they heated up in ways I did not expect especially from Gabe!

Go Gabe :)

Get this book & enjoy this series which is a fun and sweet series written well by Holly Renee.

I am looking forward to the next book about Johnny & Cash's story.

Hot Walls Shaking
This is the second book in this series and I hope there are more to come. It doesn't leave on a cliffhanger, but there are still plenty of hotties working in the garage! This book does pick up where the first book left off, although the first book doesn't end with a cliffhanger and I think you could read this without reading the first. However, I highly recommend you read them in order, since you will see how everything comes to be, who everyone is, and how everyone met. Holly Renee is an amazing author, who I will continue to keep reading! I will try to do a review without giving spoilers of either book, so there may be a combo of things. Remember that Kat and Blake's story is the first book, but they are sort of combined in a way anyways. Kat and Erica became best friends by meeting when they were out in separate groups. Blake and Gabe have been best friends, their story is longer, deeper, and so much more! Erica & Kat are girls that I could see myself hanging out with. I loved that they are strong female characters and not weak damsels in distress. Sparks fly between both couples, but one decides to decides to remain friends. Gabe has a past that he can't forget, but when something happens, he and Erica end up letting those sparks really fly! Then he disappears, and Erica wants him back, but doesn't know how or even where he went. Will Gabe reveal what happened? Will Erica take him back, if Gabe decides to return? Will Erica determine she's had enough and start seeing another?
