When Abby and Dominic move into the beautiful Dower Cottage it seems like a dream come true. But beneath its chocolate box exterior, the cottage holds a terrible secret, and unknown to her; Abby holds the key to rewriting a terrible wrong from the past.
Soon she becomes obsessed by the dark stranger whose spirit is trapped in the attic, a man who teaches her more about herself and new pathways to ecstasy than she had ever imagined possible, until she is lost in his world of dark pleasures and his overpowering need for her.
As their love grows, Dominic fights desperately to keep his wife, and Abby is caught between her husband and her charismatic, jealous lover from the past.
But their mutual obsession will take her to the edge of insanity as she discovers what her stranger needs from her to ensure they are the ones to be together forever.

The blurb to this was great. The plot was awesome. The story not so much. Not only was it sometimes confusing and riddled with grammatical errors, I'm the first to admit I'm horrible at grammar so when I notice it's really bad, but at times it contradicted itself. she clearly had very old fashioned parents.' 'I don't know. They were both dead before I met her,' replied Dominic. "They're living in Spain now, but they write regularly and Abby writes back.' That paragraph right there is a great example. There were to many to really point them out but that one really stuck in my head. While the storyline was interesting I didn't connect to any of the characters. I believe it's because they came off as fake. Nothing they did was believable and especially not the way they spoke.

When Darkness Falls by Marina Anderson is a dark tale of ghosts and forbidden romance. Abby is torn between her love for her husband Dominic and an obsession with the spirit of a man who claims to have loved her in the past. Anderson explores the idea that love conquers all, even death. I found this story to be very romantic in a Poe meets Austen kind of way. When Darkness Falls was at times intense and mysterious. The overall feeling of the book was a bit dark for my tastes, but very well written. If you are a fan of paranormal romances or dark romances then you’ll enjoy this one.

Four Ghostly Stars! Abby and her husband Dominic move into a new house. Abby soon becomes obsessed with a spirit who claims to be a former lover of hers. What will happen between Abby and the spirit and what about her husband? This is a dark paranormal romance that keeps you on the edge of your seat. The story is well written and the characters will not disappoint you.
I received this book as an ARC for an honest review. This book was read and reviewed by Annamaria for Alpha Book Club.
MY REVIEW: When Darkness Calls is a full length novel which doesn't leave you hanging. This was the first thing that drew me to the book. The second, was the timeless love story. Who doesn't want to believe in true love which lasts forever even after death do you part? Romantic in theory, but in reality maybe not so much. Especially when you live during Victorian times and the one you love is your Master and you are but a servant. A mere sixteen at best.
The newly married couple, Abby and Dominic, an upcoming physcian, move into a cottage on the outskirts of a small village with a secret. The secret was anything but in Victorian times when the Lord and Master of the lands, Lord Rufus Seymour wanted something, or someone, he took it. But when he laid eyes on his Mother's young servant, Abigail, he found not only a young beauty, but a quick wit, a loving heart and someone whose passions ran as deep and dark as his own. Traversing the past and present for Abby/Abigail sometimes left our heroine with a dizzying headache and left me with a bit of one as well as I made the journey with Abby.
Ms. Anderson did an excellent job defining the difference between modern day Abby and servant Abigail, including the degrading of her mind until the lines between past and present could no longer be distinguished. There were times, however, I felt the story could move faster along, but then the ending came much to soon and was rushed in my opinion. There were several examples which I began typing of how Ms. Anderson made me feel, or how she had taken a simple story of everlasting love, added a few twists to make it fresh and yet each would be spoilers so you will have to go out and purchase the boo for yourselves. Just note that sex with a ghost, is hot as hell, just as if you were still alive with him. And time has only increased his knowledge of how to tie a woman up and make her beg for it. There. The only spoiler you get from me.
I really enjoyed this paranormal romance by Marina Anderson. It tells the story of a love that time nor death could tear apart. When a soul is reborn and moves on with someone else, what happens when that soul meets their one true love, from their past? I spent all day mulling over what I should say in my review. Not sure really if I can convey my feelings appropriately, but I will try my best. Firstly I found the writing to be good. The characters were likeable and love scenes were certainly not disappointing. My only negative critique is that I felt very sorry for the husband, Dominic. I felt like he was just pushed aside and treated so unfairly by his wife. I think that maybe if he were a bad husband, I'd feel differently. Please give this story a read. It is an exciting story and I'm very interested to see what others think.
