Lots going on in this one

Lordy things went a bit bonkers in this one but in the best way with Tate and Dariux fighting their growing attraction and secret plotting going on all over the place.

The political intriguing is more rounded out in this one, with the baddies not quite so pantomime as in book one. There's some new characters introduced and more pairings set up for future stories.

I like where this series is going even if it's not perfectly polished.

A hot mess! Not the good kind of hawt either.

I'm really disappointed. If you read my review of the first book in Avanti Chronicals series, Corin's Chance, you'll see that my only real problem with that story was the author relying too heavily on constant verbal declarations of love for everyone and everybody.

This book though. Ugh! Not only do we have love redundancy still but we now have proofing errors and severe continuity problems. The continuity issues are not only with the previous book but with events taking place in this book, sometimes in the very same chapter!

What I find hilarious is, she thanked her editor in the dedication! This of course makes me wonder what that poor woman had to deal with to get this up to it's current mess.

Anyway, 2 stars which is high but there are some really good bits peeking through and meeting Yanick and Kerrit is worth at least 1 star.

This was an amazing read. I didn't think I could love book two more than I did book one, but I do. This story weaves us deeper into the world of the Avanti. Tate becomes such a loved character. A man who hides his pain through humor and jokes, but finally has to come to face his pain and his past. The action and fight scenes are realistic, and I feel as if I'm really sitting there watching everything happen as I read. The Avanti are a group of men like no other, and as we read, we are drawn deeper into their lives. This book opens the story up for so much more, and I am impatiently waiting for the next books. I can't get enough. Definitely an author I will be following and jumping on new books as soon as they come out.

Absolutely loved this book and this author!

This book has everything you could possibly want in a book; adventure, action, suspense, comedy, and don't forget romance (hot, hot!). Seeing Tate dealing with the ghosts of his past was heartbreaking as well as heartwarming. Another fantastic book in the series. This author is definitely on my list of must reads.

**Grammar**

The MCs of this 2nd book are Tate and Niko's master of arms/Best friend, Dariux. The plot continues where the first book ended. Tate is still fighting his feelings, he was too badly hurt in the past and he doesnt want to give his heart away anymore. He cares only about his Avanti friends and Corin and doesnt want to add another person, someone he could lose, to the list, not even if he feels a pull towards the other man that is hard to ignore.
Dariux is sad, and is losing all hope of mating with the man he is sure is his truemate.
One tries to run away and the other wants to catch him.In the end Tate surrenders.
Tate tells Dariux about his past. His mother died giving birth to him, his father blamed him for her death and after he started drinking he also started beating him and for this reason Tate's body is full of scars. When his grandparents took him away from that sick man, he thought he was safe, but few years later his grandfather died and when his grandmother found out he was gay she kicked him out of her house. His boyfriend, his first guy, abandoned him when they were found out. Tate lived alone till he was 18 when an Avanti squad saved him from that lonely life. They were his friends, his family and finally he thought he could be happy, but few years later, they were killed while on duty. Tate was again alone and scared of ever loving someone else, bcs he feared to be abandoned or lose them.

I could understand Tate, and I was sad for him, but luckily for him, Dariux didnt give up.

There is also angst in this book, and like I said the other time, the author uses too many words to say few things. Sometimes I found myself skipping the sex scenes, not bcs they were bad, but to make the book shorter. The good thing about the fact that the author tells the same things again and again, just with different words, is that also if I forgot what she wrote in the first pages, I'm sure I didnt miss much since she for sure repeated that same things also in the pages I remember.

Anyway.

The angst was about Nestor, Martellon's and his daughter, Teriva, ally, that kidnaps Tate.
Corin, Kel and their son Chance(he is damn cute) with Tate and Dariux, are having a picnic in the woods, when they see an hostile force riding towards them. Dariux is still injured and Kel is the only one who can protect Corin, the baby and his mate, so he does the only thing he thinks possible. He stays behind, while they escape, to try and slow the enemies.
100 vs 1, all are sure that Tate is going to die. The only one that doesnt leave him, is Yanick one of the Refrinti, some smart and loyal beasts, that other clans use only as mounts but that Kel's people consider friends. The beast helps Tate take down a lot of the enemies, but in the end Tate is badly hurt and cant fight anymore. He tells Yanick to leave and tell the other what is happening, the huge animal doesnt want, but in the end understands that it is the right thing to do. Yanick like Tate's mate and friends hadnt wanted to leave him, but they had Chance and they were hurt, they couldnt help.

Tate gets kidnapped, but he has the time to leave a message with the Avanti's code.

When the others finally arrive on the spot, they understand that he is hurt but alive. They soon start thinking about a rescuing plan.

While his friends are planning,Tate is trying to find a way to escape. Before he is able to, he hears a conversation btw Nestor and that bich,Teriva. She wanted Niko, a chieftain, bcs she wanted to use him to make her pregnant, she doesnt care about the fact that the man wouldnt want to, she has potions and erbs to help her bend a man's will and make him perform. When she finds out they kidnapped the wrong man, she gets angry and leaves Nestor's clan, in search of another prey.

Later that same night, Tate is able to escape thanks to Turian's sister(he is a chieftain and a Conclave's member), the woman who has taken care of his wounds and that had been kidnapped like him.

They are running down the stairs, when they meet Nestor. There is a fight and in the end Nestor falls down the stairs and dies. They are almost out, when they hear a sound. Tate is ready to fight, also if hurt, but he is really tired and he knows their chances are low. Luckily for him, the one arriving are his friends.

Tate is finally back in Dariux's arms and the man is never going to let him get way.

Days pass, Tate gets better.

The Conclave wants to punish him for Nestor's death, but in the end, Thanks to King Kastain and Turian's sister, he is absolved.

When Tate is finally alone with his friends, he tells them about Teriva and her plans, and Kastain understands that he is her next prey.

All the Avanti, minus Corin that will stay with his son and mate, are going to go with Kastain to the capital and try stop the bitch and her allies.

Before they go, we see Tate and Dariux's mating ceremony. They will have a masked ball in the capital too, but this ceremony is private, with their friends and the people they started to consider their families.

The book ends with all of them leaving the next day, ready to go to the capital.

In this book we see some new characters, like Leodar, Aristian's son ( a member of the conclave and a chieftain, friend with Alix, Niko's father), and I'm starting to think that the guy could be Bray's mate.
We also see Niko and Bell becoming really close, and one time we see Niko's desperation when he thinks that his friend now mated, Dariux, is going to leave him and that his other friend Bell, will stay with his Avanti friends, and he will be left alone, back in his clan lands.
Another couple that is forming, or to better say is going to happen soon, his Dax and King Kastain, while I'm also sure Hunter and Tir(Kel's older brother) are gonna be mated soon.

There are a tons of possible sequels, for example the author told us that Bell has some older brothers, that are searching for him and that love their baby brother and when they find him they will want to stay on the planet. They are gonna be possible mates for the other characters we met,I'm sure of that.

The book wasnt bad, just too long, and sometimes I got bored, but I must say that it is well written. We not only saw Tate and Dariux's everyday lives and their love, but also glimpses about all the other couples and possible couples. I loved Niko's father Alix, I wish I had a father like him. Another charater we met, was Dariux's older brother,Raylex(Lex), they are really close and I liked to read about their past and why their family is so close Niko's. Dariux's father saved Alix in the past and Dariux saved Niko when they were kids and the guy was being bullied. Niko seems like a funny, smart but at the same time fragile(also if he hides it) guy and I cant wait to read about him and Bell.

There is only a question without answer, why is Tate and Dariux's mate bond so strong? is that only the fact that they gave each other their blood to save their lives? and what are gonna be the results of this blood sharing other than the fact that now they both have mixed blood and genes?

I really wish they could get pregnant like Corin... sigh. Let's hope.

I wanted so much to like this series but o feel book 2 was sooo slow. I had a really hard time getting into the story and it often felt like the same thing being said over and over. Half the book could have easily been removed without any loss to the story.

I'm going to continue on with the series I hopes it gets better.

This book 2 Tate and Dariux get together and more political drama is happening.

There is an order to these books that includes another series so if you read beware you need to know the order.

First off, I wish I had not waited so long to read this after Corin’s Chance because Tate and Dariux’s relationship actually begins in that book. I was so lost in the beginning. I almost stopped to reread Corin’s Chance but I prevailed and ended up enjoying the book. I loved Tate. He and Dariux were a great couple but they needed so much reassurance from each other all the time. The political drama and scheming were not as bad as I expected and the usual overabundance of love, emotion, and humor from the Avanti and their friends is what I love about a Hannah Walker book. Looking forward Dax, Bell and Hunter’s stories.

I'm really enjoying this series. I read it on a whim based on a recommendation on facebook. I like how the series is a continuation so the characters remain the same. So far Niko is my favorite. I hope he gets his own book soon. But Tate deserves his own book and his own happy ever after. It was nice to get to know him as his own person. I was rooting for his truemate to win him over because it didn't always seem like it would happen. Looking forward to the rest of the series.

Avanti series

Good addition to the series. I did like the further world building. I understand Tate’s trauma over his history but his whining and crying felt too much. These men are supposed to be the best of the best warriors in the entire universe but the crying and sniffing and emotional reactions were tooo much for me personally.

Four and a half stars!
I freaking adore this series. Reading this book reminded me how much I love the world Hannah created in this series. It’s so rick and complete. There’s so much thought put into how the clans interact, the politics and rules, the animals and the scenery. It’s like I’m right there in that world. I would gladly visit this world and meet these people. The way she describes things are effortless and you don’t have that info dump feeling when you learn new things. When she’s introducing something unique to her world, she gives enough information to give you a point of reference in the real world. But not so much you feel like you’re reading a glossary.
This book starts not long after the previous ends. We learn more of what’s going on and how the clans are stacking up against each other. I loved being able to just sink into the story and watch all of the events unfold and how the group of friends and family handle the situation as it evolved and changes. There’s something brewing between the Conclave and King Kastain. There’s also more rules than is being introduced so far. It seems to be done on purpose so we only have part of that story. I’m eager to know more about it. I love how she gives you the pieces you need to not be lost, but not so much she gives away the whole plot before it’s time.
Getting to watch Tate and Dariux finally be able to admit their feelings for each other was lovely. Tate’s past plays a huge role in the progression of the relationship between Tate and Dariux. When his whole history is revealed my heart broke for him. Dariux is such an amazing support and the perfect mate for him. They worked together to help overcome their issues. The emotions between them are wonderful to read. Tate has an amazing code of honor. He will truly give anything to those he considers family. Even his life if it would save another. Dariux is much the same but he hasn’t had the opportunity to show that as readily as Tate has. Both men are wonderfully written and come across and guys you’d be honored to consider a friend.
Throughout the book you also get to see the bond between all of the Avanti and their new friends and family. It’s such a joy to watch how they all support each other when they need it the most. The omniscient point of view is interesting to read. I love getting to see some of the other characters’ thoughts and feelings as we go instead of waiting for their story to get to know them. Atistian is a fun character and I want more of him. Though he’s not overly important, he was a great addition in this story. Though with Leodar showing up at the end, I have a feeling my wish will come true.
The bond between Tate and Yanick is beautiful. The way Ms. Walker depicts the refrinti makes me want to meet one. They are majestic beasts where smart is too tame a word to describe them. I get the feeling they’re going to be important throughout the large series arc based on some clues we get in this story. But it could be my own wishful thinking on that since Yanick was an important part of Tate’s story.
The ending is a pleasant mix of wonderful happily ever after for Tate and Dariux while still leaving part of the overarching plot still open to continue in the next book. I cannot wait for the next book in this series.

What I wrote before still stands.
I just correct my rating, because looking back it was a bit harsh. Yeah, the book is verbose - but all of Hannah Walkers book are too wordy, it seems to be her writing style - and then there's the back and forth between Tate and Dariux, which gets old soon, but all in all I would give it a 3 star rating now.

February 2019
I'd really like to give this a higher rating, but I just can't.

In my opinion Tate's Torment was too long. It's not a bad story, but parts of it are too verbose and other parts need more attention.

What was really getting on my nerves; and I'm a romantic, were the constant page long declarations of love. Yeah, great so they're in love, if they accept it or not, if they want it or not; they're in love. But pages, over pages of love declarations???

That would be like eating a whole cheesecake after devouring a triple chocolate cake before it. It's too sweet...and frankly with the cake you get a stomach ache and with the story you start rolling your eyes, feeling annoyed and start skipping pages.

Also a fair warning to all of us who prefer their books without D/s or BDSM...there's light D/s, as well as spanking and further mention of rope and bindings to be explored with sex later on. Uhm, no. Not for me. (THIS IS A HINT FOR ALL AUTHORS - PLEASE CONSIDER TO PUT A WARNING LABEL ON YOUR BOOKS OR IN THE BLURB HERE AT GOODREADS! THANK YOU! - I see this as the same courtesy as putting a warning on food that contains nuts or dairy...so please don't feel offended. We're all different and like different things...it's only human.) Okay on with the review...

The cast is massive you have all the Avanti (6 guys) and the Clans with all their Chieftains, Lairds and Men of Arms and the set up for the following pairings, as well as the set up for the good and the bad - well it's tiring at times to keep track of it all and who is who.

Same as with the first book, I like the "family feeling" and friendships. I like that they defend each other and stand up for the good cause no matter what might happen. I really like this aspect of the story and I want to know what happens next.

In the end I wish I could give this a higher rating and I would if it were more streamlined. Cut some scene and shorten others and Tate's Torment would be a whole lot better.

This book was such a awesome addition to this series!

With this book we get Tate and Dariux. Tate is fighting his feelings for his True Mate Dariux due to the fear that he will leave him like others he has loved in his life have done to him. Dariux knows Tate is his true mate and does not understand why he would fight their mating.

You get to see a lot of the characters from the previous book in this series so I would not recommend reading this book as a stand alone because you also get a lot of POV's from these previous characters too. Now I will say before I was never really a fan of multiple POV's in a book but now I really like them even though sometimes in this book it would jump from one character to another with no real break so it did get a little confusing keeping up with who was talking sometimes.

But other than that you get a lot of action and so much steam which I loved and thought was so hot between Tate and Dariux. I also love how the author created this world which I thought was amazing and these characters! I can not wait to read the next book in this series, which by the way I am hoping will be Dax and you know who lol. Yes I am not going to say because I really do not want to spoil any of this story for anyone else. This is definitely a book if you love Sci-Fi you should read for yourself because it was just so good!

So all together I really loved this book! I would 100% recommend this series!

REVIEWING FOR ONE CLICK AHOLICS BOOK GROUP
Wow ! So i loved the first book in this series and was excited to read this one telling Tate & Dariux's story. Of finding out what it is exactly that happened in Tate's past to make him feel he's "not worthy of love". This really was quite an emotional one and Tate really is such a complex character. As well as being complex though he is fiercely loyal and protective which is a trait that is shown all throughout the story in his actions. Yet he still manages, when situations are serious, to make everyone laugh with his "Tate-isms" which really are hilarious !!
I loved that we also caught up with how Corin, Kel and Chance were doing and were brought some laughs from them too. Something else i loved about this was that in book 1 the author had 2 characters suffering from "mate sickness" but in this one the connection between Tate and Dariux was different.......She didn't use the mat sickness she changed it around to something completely different !! Again the descriptions used were amazing and the story flowed flawlessly. At times i had to put my kindle down though, had i not have put it down when i was reading some of the more dramatic scenes i MAY have ended up throwing my kindle !!
Another well deserved 5 star read !!

Great story, but -- as other books in these interlinked series -- poor editing/proofing.

Examples:
1) “Yeah, I hate to have to ask him to go over it again, but I want to make sure he hasn’t remembered anything else, but we do need to know we have every angle covered.” Is this just badly worded or should it be two sentences?

2) ‘Tate snuggled in close to Dariux, wrapping his arms around him and resting his head on Dariux’s hear’ Umm, how does one do that?

3) 'Chance intercepted the movement and quickly jammed a piece into his mouth as though he was scared someone was going to take it off of him.' Oooh! Someone needs English lessons. The proper English wording would be, 'Chance intercepted the movement and quickly jammed a piece into his mouth as though he was scared someone was going to take it from him.'

I loved tate's tornment it was a amazing story.

Tate and ree have such a strong intense will tate let himself love ree or will he continue to push him away and carry on fighting his love for ree

Tate is stubborn he jokes alot and plays pranks on his friends. oh tate is also sex mad but is so fun and there is never a dull moment when he's around

Tate also hides alot of pain and hurt behind his smiles and fights for the ones he loves even if he's willing to sacriface his self to protect ree and his friends

I love tate and ree they stole my heart.

i loved tate's tornent and i adored the characters i fell totally in love with tate and ree

I gave up at around 75%. I couldn’t take the mutual admiration society in this book, one minute longer. The author really could have used someone to tell her to pair down this story significantly.

I loved all the characters. I liked the story well enough when something was actually happening. It just got to the point that I was skipping whole chapters and not really missing anything that I gave up. I realized that there are nine books in this series and I was struggling to read #02. How could I hope to get through the next nine? I concluded that I didn’t care enough about the series to continue. Shame really because it could have been a pretty good series if the author had just edited herself a bit.

I really love this series and in this installment we get to know Dax even more. We learn that behind the jokes and games Dax is hiding pain from abuse, neglect and rejection he's experienced throughout his life. He is fairly insecure and because of his past his convinced that he is unworthy of one such as Dariux. Dariux is steady, loyal and patient. We get an opportunity to see the development of their relationship. We also see to what extent Dax is willing to go to save his friends/family and Dariux. The twists and turns continue as more portions of the conspiracy continues to unravel. We also see the start of future relationships. Looking forward to future installments.

4 Stars. Not quite as good as Corin's Chance but close enough for 4 stars. If you enjoyed the first book in the series you'll enjoy this one and I am definitely reading the rest of the series.

I do have to agree with one reviewer though that the constant declarations of love, protectiveness, devotion, brotherhood, self-sacrifice, etc. does get awfully repetitive. I found myself flipping past those parts to get back to the story. You all love each other and would gladly die for each other. Got it. Move on.

A lot was going on in this book

I didn't quite connect with this book as well as I did with the previous one. At times it felt like there was too much going on in this one and it could almost have been split into two with a smoother result. But overall, I like the direction that the story, as a whole, is going and I'm eager to continue reading the next books in the series.

I loved the first book. This one was too much. Too much over the top drama, too much forced humor, too much emotional immaturity, too much unreality, too much boring sex. Just too much of everything. I'm going to read the next book and hope it's better.

Same as book one, syrupy sweet, hallmark moments all around.
There is blood and war fare in this book and the first one but the sweet stuff over powers it all.
