Poor heroes die easily in space, and Brian Collins is no hero. He works as a mechanic aboard a starship, but he isn’t paid much and his captain considers him expendable. He is halfway through a 20-year contract with the Navy, and he plans to survive the full term.
But life in space is not easy, and your life is at stake even if you don’t want to be a hero.
When Brian’s ship breaks down in the middle of space and the captain starts sending the crew outside to die, even desertion becomes an option. As if having unreliable safety equipment aboard the ship weren’t enough, he will have to dodge asteroid fields, avoid getting lost in space, and survive.
Survival might require Brian to reconsider his priorities. Is he ready to leave the Navy and become an outlaw, or will he risk everything to fulfill his duty?
ND. has. panned a space novella about a futuristic navy that only the Captains like. Caotains are lije Gods aboard ship and in the story he has elevated himself above that position. The Captain orders his Officers to task their men to do unsafe repairs in space, which is bad enough, but inside an asteroid shelf it's life ending. This is an excellent read for the genre.....DEHS
