Read them ALL TOGETHER! Seriously!
Brraaaaaaiiiiins! No, no... Wait! It was just a joke!
In fact, in the series that I’m going to talk today, there is no place for a whimsical approach. Anyway, this thing about zombies that eat brains is bullshit. Apart from a few movies and the new TV series iZombie (where eating brains have a reason), which actually have more or less comic accents, in all the other movies, books and whatever you want, the zombies are interested in any little piece of meat and not just in brains. Enough with this jabber!
However, at one point, with this Brains expression I wanted to start the review, but after reading the whole series I thought it would sound too lame and crappy. If I were to choose now a key word, not that this would be mandatory, but just like a little artistic trick, it would be Sucker Punch. Oh yeah, this is the appropriate one! And for this reason, I would like to start with a little recommendation, even if I know that neither the author nor those who promote these books can do much about this issue, but who knows? In my opinion, at least in electronic format, the books should be available as a bundle or omnibus.
Why? Well, let me explain why. The three books are too much connected, that is, what happens in the first volume will find its completion in the third. In my opinion, I think they were originally designed as a whole. Why they came up separately is not my problem or in my power to do anything about it, but to give an advice. Maybe you wonder why I fuss about it. Because anyone who entered on a book site and found out a new series, by principle will not buy the whole series without trying the first volume first. And that would be the problem with this series, at least in my opinion. Now, let me explain a bit more thoroughly. Chill, it's gonna be without spoilers. I'll beat around the bush with grace... as usual. NO SPOILERS in my reviews!
So... the first book: Lockdown.
You know that, usually, in the US zombie movies or books the hero, most of the times, is a macho dude with or without a hairy chest, an ex Marines, a SEAL, a Black Ops operator or whatever you want or, if it's a woman, she will be a badass girl with which you don’t wanna mess up with unless you wanna be rough up badly and the guns are blazing around all the time. The British, on the other hand, are the opposite. They have the habit of choosing as main characters ordinary people without any prior combat training. Ah... about fire arms, you better not even think about it. Usually, they can hardly find a hammer or a pipe and if by what fortunate event they find an ax… oh boy… they start to behave as if they have found Excalibur!
Let's get back... a good part of the book I wondered if to continue or give up reading. The main character was so labile, so introspective that I was baffled. If Lockdown was a nineteenth-century novel, it would be called Tribulations of a Giddy Young Woman Braving the New World. She drove me nuts with her throes: why did I do that, but I didn’t, I should have to do it or should not, it was because of me or it wasn’t. I was about to shout “Enough! Stop it, goddammit!” But... but... suddenly everything changes. Everything gets other valences and... near to the end here comes the gut punch. What a twist! A very cool one! I thought the author would go down that road and continue the story from that angle. I'm not telling you which, only that this approach has not been used much in the zombie stories. Too few are written from this perspective.
Number 2: Forgotten
The author changes the characters. OK, ok, it doesn’t matter. Let's get it on with the new ones. At first, I was a little disappointed, but I recovered quickly. Because the second volume is more focused, more careful with the development of the story and of the characters. Sure, we don’t get rid of introspection, but here this process is very well folded up on the characters. You'll have some more action, but as I've mentioned above we’re in the UK. There are not really Hollywood-type action scenes. But it doesn’t matter anymore. The story will follow its course and will accrue tension precisely through the changes and torments to which the main characters are subjected. And ... when you less expect ... it will come the second punch. The new twist will take you out of the rhythm. I know some of you like the story to continue sometimes more linearly and you become attached to some characters. But life isn't fair, isn’t it? So, buckle up!
The third one: Extinct
We don't even have to fuss with it. The end is written right in the title. And yet... something will not fall as you would expect. In this volume, everything will become grimmer, more complicated, in other words: shit will hit the fan really bad. As I was saying at the beginning, all the events from the first volume and the second one will find their perfect completion in the third. Oh, I have almost forgotten: the third twist! The last one, but also the most terrible. Obviously, it was supposed to be paramount of the story. And that is why I believe that these books must be regarded as a whole and not as standalone volumes. Okay, you can do what you want and read any of them, but...
Though I don’t like this expression, I could say that all in all, the story is worth reading! Go over all of the impediments I told you about and you'll see that you will like it in the end. It's not The Walking Dead, but it doesn’t have to be. The series has its own charm and this is all that matters. And to be naughty till the end, although it is not a great revelation, I ask you: what HEA is possible when the Extinct will come?! Again, buckle up!
Now, in the end, I would like to remind to those of you who have found out or tell to those that don’t know that the one who created the pattern of the zombie we are used to now has passed away this summer. Without George Romero (1940-2017) and its Night of the Living Dead (1968), not so many books would have been written, nor would they have made so many movies. He is the one who modified the ghoul from the Haitian voodoo stories in the ravenous human flesh eater of the zombie apocalypse.
R.I.P., man... zombie fans from all around the world will never forget you!

I was given the opportunity to read an electronic copy of Extinct. This is my honest opinion of the book.
27 year old Zombie horror author Georgina Blake is living in a world where her life is imitating her art. A virus outbreak of AM13, which was discovered by a news researcher, turns those who suffer from the infection into the undead. Remaining survivors were told to get to the airport and were flown to an island for safety. Life on the island is not that easy, though, as fear, violence, and terror rule the day. With a complete breakdown of society due to the outbreak, will life for the survivors be as horrific in safety as it was in the outbreak zone?
Georgina comes across as self obsessed, worried more about her appearance and her own life than about the outbreak itself. Although the book is written in a unique voice, with Georgina narrating her own story, it really did not grab my attention in any meaningful way. As an extension of the Outbreak series, it did not hold up to its predecessors for me. I am a big fan of dystopian novels with a paranormal component, so Extinct should have been right up my alley. I found the dialogue to be forced in places and the story was not as compelling as I had hoped. For these reasons, I would not recommend Extinct to other readers.

Extinct is the third and final book in the AM13 Outbreak series. This book is told from the viewpoint of an author who happens to write zombie stories. It's all very meta. I quite enjoyed that about the story.
Georgie is currently safe on an island, along with tons of other people, that is said to be disease free. She's hopeful that a cure will be found soon, and that she'll be able to go back home soon. Unfortunately for her, things take a turn for the worse when the truth about what's really going on is revealed. Who can she trust? Can she survive? Or will the human race as we know it be wiped out completely? You'll have to read the book and see how this amazing series ends!
I really liked how this story was told from yet another character's point of view, if you will, but it still continued on from where the second book left off. The book had characters you wanted to root for. They were decent enough, and you really didn't want to see anything happen to them. Then there were characters who you were unsure about, and when their truths were revealed, you either liked them or hated them completely. And, trust me, there's one character who really fits that latter. This person is abhorrent.
The plot moves along nicely, keeping you on your toes and eager to see what might happen next. It's a pretty quick read, although not so quick that you find yourself disappointed. Everything is tied together with a nice little bow, and by the end, you'll be feeling as though you just stepped off some crazy, horrific roller coaster ride.
I've given Extinct 4.5 stars. And I would highly recommend the series to fans of zombies and horror novels. It's a really good trilogy of books.

It's over... I'm not ready for it to be over LOL
Book 3 follows another awesome new character, Georgie. We get to meet a lot more characters, and meet up again with some from past books, but don't get too attached! I just can't say enough about how much I love reading about the zombie apocalypse from this point of view, so different from other books I have read. We also get a lot of answers from the past books, and it is done so well. The title is pretty self explanatory, but is it for the humans or the zombies?... that is the question isn't it? Sad it's over, but what an amazing ride!

Georgie Blake is a 27 year old novelist that write about zombies. Ironic that she should find herself on the island sanctuary in the middle of a zombie apocalypse. Georgie and the rest of the survivors are told that there is a cure and that they will be returning home soon. But she learns quickly that they have been lied to as she runs for her life. Georgie and anther survivor come into possession of Dr. Jones’ journal and zombie cure and they plan on taking it to someone else that has been working on a cure too. But Georgie has had issues with people in in the past, how will she survive those she travels with.
Georgie is essential a shut in author that is out of her element on this supposedly safe island. But it is clear that there is nothing really setup for the survivors and it’s not really as safe as everyone thinks. Luckily she finds a possible cure to the zombies but the road to someone who could use it is long and full of danger. Georgie is not your typical zombie apocalypse hero but she is a great character.
This is the last book in the series and I’m heartbroken. I know all things must come to an end but I didn’t want to leave this world. Many questions that have been brought up in the previous books have been answered but there are a couple that are left open. This is an amazing series and one that I strongly recommend.
I received Extinction from Silver Dagger Book Tours for free. This has in no way influenced my opinion of this book.

Blogger by day, Zombie Slayer by night! I hope your ready for an ending you won't be expecting!
This is the conclusion of the AM13 Outbreak Series and it's starts and ends with so many twist and turns these Zombies are sure be dizzy.
I read right through this and was on the edge of my seat, biting my poor fingernails, now nubs, to find out how AM13 Outbreak Series will end. I loved seeing old characters and running into things left behind. Dr. Jones diary and a bottle that must be the cure. It's literally a fight to the finish for these survivors that you won't want to miss.

I really liked that the main character in this story is an author who writes zombie fiction.The characters are well developed and interesting and i liked the UK setting.The unexpected ending was also a nice little treat.I enjoyed this book and would reccomend it to any fan of the zombie genre.I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

I liked the concept behind the stories in these three books, it was different than the usual zombie tales.
Lockdown: Although it made a change for the story to start before the ‘outbreak’, the first half of the book was painfully slow, but worth sticking with for the latter half.
It’s written from Leah’s point of view and has a twist that you may, or may not, see coming. Leah, herself is an annoying person, who without a man to ‘look after’ her would have been one of the first to die!
Forgotten: The second book has new characters and alternates between Alyssa and Ethan’s points of view, alongside the report/journal written by Dr. Jones. This story is tenser than the first and the characters are more developed and likeable. The story itself had unexpected twists and was fun to read, although the portrayal of the ‘mindless’ zombies, doesn’t sit well in the context of the book!
Extinct: Another change of characters in the final book, this time told from Georgie’s perspective, and dealing with life in the island sanctuary, ‘safe’ from the zombies (or not)! This book wrapped up most of the threads and loose ends well, but not all of them. There are still unanswered questions… maybe it’s not the final book of the series!

An excellent final chapter
Extinct is the final (unfortunately) book in the AM13 series and features the same type of brutal unpredictably that distinguish The 1st 2 books in the series. Again, the characters are flawed, relatable and features well written dialog as the previous installments. This has become one of my favorite zombie series, eclipsed only by the seminal Newsflesh series by Mira Grant. The books in this series are all tangentially related, not focussing on a single group of survivors, but mostly new characters in each book. They're all put in impossible situations and do the best they can under unthinkable circumstances. Writing the final book mostly from the point of view of someone who wrote zombie horror was very unique gamble, and it pays off in spades. No spoilers, I can't say more without giving anything critical away. Simply put, read it yourself and find out for yourselves just why this trilogy so captivated me. 5/5 start, both for Extinct and the whole series!

Book 3 in the series and it’s full of suspense. This series is so well thought out and written, I just sat here and read these one after each other and I have another book to go yet by this author. If you love zombies, then you shall love this series. This book doesn’t disappoint and brilliantly delivers nail biting fun!

Extinct by Samie Sands is an amazing story to read. This is book number three in this amazing series that I have loved reading very much. I can not wait to see what she writes about next. I highly recommend this story to everyone who loves reading about Sci-Fi and horror.

Georgie Blake is one of the survivors who made it to the sanctuary, an island, a place that the government has taken everyone. They are now waiting on a cure so they can go home. The government has people back home in the UK cleaning the place up and killing all the zombies so it will be safe for their return.
Georgie and everyone on the island believes that they are safe from zombies you know that there are no zombies on the island but she soon learns different when she witness some being attacked by a zombie and she figures out that they have been lied to. While she is running away from the attack she finds a book, a journal that belongs to Dr. Jones the man who is on the island too trying to find the cure.
Georgie and Andy decide to take Dr. Jones’ journal and viral of the zombie cure to Michael, a friend of Tom’s who is also working on a cure. They are in the hopes that with Michael’s help they can get the cure out and save a lot of lives. But Georgie has a long road ahead of her and a lot of obstacles to cross before she reaches Michael. She will lose some friends along the way. Some friends will also betray her. Georgie has no clue of who she can trust anymore. She has never put her trust into too many people in her life and now when zombie apocalypse it is even worse.
I have really and truly loved reading the AM13 Outbreak series and am sad to have read the last book. Well with any hope maybe it will not be the last one. I would have to say I think that Extinct is my favorite but don’t get me wrong I loved Lockdown and Forgotten too. What I have loved the most about the AM13 Outbreak series is that is it away different than any book about zombies that I have ever read and the zombies themselves are just amazing. I do love me some zombies.

Extinct by Samie Sands is the third book in the AM13 series by can be read as a stand alone. It continues where Forgotten leaves off. It has a girl finding part of Dr Jones' diary/notes for finding 'a cure'. It follows this group and the adventures to get to safety with the bottle of "the cure" they find. The whole time is is filled with suspense, surprises, twists, reader guessing who is good and who is not ( and probably not the right guess LOL) and so much action and adventure. The plot and characters are excellent. Surprises pop up when least expected. It keeps the reader on their toes right to the end. Loved this book. These books are not "average zombie books" . They take zombie books to a new and exciting level. Something new and different. Refreshing? If that is an appropriate word for zombies. LOL. I received this book for a honest review and it in no way effected my review or rating. Great series.

Unlike the previous two books, this one was told from the viewpoint of one person, Georgie, who is in the island camp. Things quickly go awry and Georgie returns to the UK to find the one person that may be able to find a cure for AM13 virus, but can she trust the people she travels with?
This was a mostly fitting end to the series. The final book in this trilogy wrapped up most loose ends but there were others left unexplored. Who were the people making the decisions at the camp? The main character was, again, a bit annoying and focused on the most banal things instead of what is happening. She also seemed to trust other people a little too easily. I did like that the ending didn't suddenly do a 180 degree turn as some are wont to do.
Overall, an interesting read. Rating: 3 stars.

A great ending to a unique zombie series. Just like the other books, this one is filled with unexpected twists and turns, and just like Lockdown and Forgotten it has an explosive, unexpected ending! Highly recommended.
