The husband writing team of Vanessa Kelly and Randy Sykes does not disappoint. I enjoyed the subsequent Patriots stories and this too was a joy to read. As a baseball fan in February, I gotta say, I’ve got spring fever.
Nick, like so many other of Sykes’ Patriots players, has some tough decisions ahead and has lived on his terms, not letting any woman get too close. He’s also just fired his agent because he didn’t like the way the guy did business. He takes one meeting with the GM to try to negotiate his contract and decides to take Nate up on his recommendation for a possible agent
Kate’s just a single mom trying to take care of her kid as a successful sports agent when her sister’s former beau, Nate, gives Nick her number. Her ex is a lot like Nick’s former agent
Sparks fly between these two from the moment they see each other, and Nick figures out pretty quick Kate’s just what he’s been looking for — even if he didn’t know he was looking.. She’s smart, savvy, sexy and just right for him. He trusts her
Although they agree at first to just business, they’re thrown together way too often and their dealings feel a lot more than just friends or business. When they finally give in ... an inferno is unleashed that won’t be extinguished.
Things get complicated though when a former acquaintance calls her try an underhanded deal for Nick. But she can’t tell him without raising Nick’s temper, getting others involved and having the idiot that started it deny the convo ever happened
Nick can’t get enough of her and her kid. Who knew! And he just wants to stay in Philly, which has become home, and finish out his career giving his all for the fans and helping his friends and teammates. And, they have a good chance of making it to the series. That is if the GM will show him some respect and quit being trying to pull fast ones and lowball him for a heck of a lot less than he’s worth
Kate as an agent wants the best contract and options for Nick, that meet his career goals. However, Kate the woman can’t stand the thought that Nick might leave. Then there’s that whole possible swap to Portland thing that she’s not supposed to know about. She’s in quicksand and no branch to grab onto.
Nick may be hotheaded, but it’s because he can’t stand disrespect, being lied to or attacked. He knows what he wants, is fiercely loyal to his friends and loved ones, and Kate and her kid are riding high. But, he’ll have to decide what’s most important to him, and choose. If he’s not careful, he’ll get a contract but lose everything else.
Together, they’re a heck of a team. And, when they work together, honestly, they feel capable of conquering all. And, who knows? There might just be a resolution out there, that they haven’t considered yet. If they just can take the time to ride it out and see what happens...
