Enid Mary Blyton (1897–1968) was an English author of children's books.
Born in South London, Blyton was the eldest of three children, and showed an early interest in music and reading. She was educated at St. Christopher's School, Beckenham, and - having decided not to pursue her music - at Ipswich High School, where she trained as a kindergarten teacher. She taught for five years before her 1924 marriage to editor Hugh Pollock, with whom she had two daughters. This marriage ended in divorce, and Blyton remarried in 1943, to surgeon Kenneth Fraser Darrell Waters. She died in 1968, one year after her second husband.
Blyton was a prolific author of children's books, who penned an estimated 800 books over about 40 years. Her stories were often either children's adventure and mystery stories, or fantasies involving magic. Notable series include: The Famous Five, The Secret Seven, The Five Find-Outers, Noddy, The Wishing Chair, Mallory Towers, and St. Clare's.
According to the Index Translationum, Blyton was the fifth most popular author in the world in 2007, coming after Lenin but ahead of Shakespeare.

March 29, 2023This is a collection of books four to six books in The Mysteries series - The Mystery of the Spiteful Letters, The Mystery of the Missing Necklace and The Mystery of the Hidden House. All three follow the discoveries made and mysteries solved by the Five Find-Outers - Pip, Bets, Larry, Daisy and Fatty - who are joined their adventures by Buster the dog.
The Mystery of the Spiteful Letters - 4/5 stars
Ominous letters are being delivered to the village inhabitants and neither the policeman, Mr Goon, or the Five Found-Outers can discover who is sending them. Much sleuthing and a red-headed disguise is needed in order to solve this mystery and the children find themselves in more trouble before they manage to, once again, save the day.
I, like in all Blyton books, found much peace in the formulaic nature of the storyline. There is much humour here and also more development of the five principal characters. I was genuinely perplexed by the mystery and so had much fun attempting to piece together all that was occurring, before those living through them did.
The Mystery of the Missing Necklace - 4/5 stars
The second story in this anthology is the first in this series to feature the characters aging. Fatty in particular is introduced here with a new, deeper voice but they all retained their same naïve characters and had as much fun together, despite their differing ages, as previously seen. It felt realistic still to see the siblings bickering slightly though, and how the youngest of them was always slightly overlooked before having to prove her worth. It made her character a favourite of mine and I'm glad she had her chance to shine here.
Fatty's aging played an integral part in the storyline and allowed him to adopt more adult costumes, to deceive the other village inhabitants and gather clues. I loved his disguises and so this was a true pleasure to read when they formed a primary focus, throughout this.
The Mystery of the Hidden House - 4/5 stars
This final story in the anthology prominently featured the Five Find-Outers nemesis, policeman Mr. Goon. One of his relations arrives at the village and the children find ways to trick and deceive him which unknowingly land them inside another mystery to solve.
This was a solid end to a solidly enjoyable anthology. There featured the same wit, the same set of clues to decipher, and the same sinister entities as they came closer to piecing all the puzzle pieces together. These mysteries promise much fun for all age ranges and I certainly found this claim fulfilled!

If you are wondering weather to get this book, DEFINITELY GET IT! I would have read it in one go if it didn’t have 720 pages. I admire ANY book which has an interesting plot and keeps readers intrigued. This book is exactly that. I mean, each story.

The fourth mystery in the series shows cowardliness in a different light. I liked that the Find-outers decided to help someone who got such a letter, and then jumped into a mystery that involved more people who got them. They do it properly, and find the culprit quite by chance, with their nemesis Mr. Goon helping them out. The race to see who solved the mystery first is what I felt made this exciting.
If Fatty is the leader of the Find-outers, he is perhaps the character most developed over the series too. While I do like him, in this book I loved Bets a little more. She’s the youngest of the five, but pulls her weight a lot. How she helps to find the missing necklace is just brilliant. An adult reading this book might guess the solution quickly, but I think it’s a fun element to the story when a child is reading it. Loved it, especially with disguises now in the picture!
Ern Goon, the policeman’s nephew, comes into the series, and befriends the five. I loved the story because of his involvement, and how this plays with Goon. The poetry into the tale also makes it hilarious to read. This story has a bit of danger involved for the kids too, but they tackle it smartly, and the Inspector comes to the rescue in a way too. Enjoyed it.

A very nice book indeed, especially when it’s a mystery. 3 books in 1! The book is all about the five find outers solve very scary and interesting mysteries. In this series you will be reading about them trying to solve a very nasty mystery of the SPITEFUL LETTERS, including a confusion mystery the MISSING NECKLACE and the last one finally, is a very, very, scary and dangerous place, known as the HIDDEN HOUSE...
