“They hired me because I'm hot?” It's the chance of a lifetime for gourmet baker Kevin Walker: he and his best friend, mixologist Troy, now own a Main Street dessert bar on Ember Isle, an exclusive gay millionaires' retreat. Kevin's always assumed he's straight despite a lack of interest in women. Everything changes when he bumps into a man who turns him on at first sight... The ride of Kevin's life has arrived.
“We're done. I gave him his fucking ring back.” Billionaire Eli Black walked in on his actor boyfriend Tom with another man. His best friend Dean drags him to Ember Isle to have fun while they wait for the Tom to tell the media. As heartbreak fades, a one-of-a-kind guy catches his eye. He wants Kevin over his knee, in his bed, and in his life... But his ex isn't willing to let go yet.
“I have a light in my life, and it's this man.” Eli and Kevin's intense mutual attraction pulls them together in the island heat. The once-burned billionaire and the not-so-straight baker desperately want to commit, but there's always a catch. They face petty politics, a treacherous ex's hidden agenda, sneaking around their friends, and a growing threat to their fun and livelihood. Secrets don't last long on Ember Isle. Can their love spark, sizzle, and scorch for life? Or will it be doused by sabotage and a ticking clock on the future of the island?
Island Heat is a steamy, stand-alone gay romance novel with a HEA ending and no cliffhanger.
E. Davies writes feel-good, low-angst romance that never fades to black when the going gets good! Born in Canada, after 16 moves and counting, Ed has finally put down roots in north London.
He emerges from his writing nest to coo over fuzzy animals, flee from cute guys, dance through the streets with his chosen family, put together fierce looks, and—most of all—befriend local flowers.
Don't know how Davies managed to make spanking a hot man boring, but hand to God, that's what happened here. I was entirely underwhelmed with this one.
Dear gods, this was dull. There's supposed to be some tension and obstacles to keep readers interested...even the sex scenes were putting me to sleep. I found my mind wandering at times, and then I'd notice my leg jiggling hard enough to unseat dental fillings just in the effort to keep myself awake long enough to finish a scene.
On top of being dull, there were enough mistakes to make me wag my red pen. The spot on a penis where the the foreskin meets the shaft is not the perineum, E. Davies. Eli's eyes change color, too. Sometimes they're brown, sometimes they're blue. And I always find it entertaining when two fictional guys are engaging in missionary anal sex and somehow their balls smash together.
Apparently, human biology is not one of Davies' strong suits.
But then, neither is writing.
"A thought occurred to him: it was after midnight. Well, after, by now."
"...the warmth between them almost stifling - but not quite."
"He was more interested in Eli than he'd probably ever been in anyone."
That last sentence would make total sense - if Davies hadn't spent significant time before that passage inundating the reader with how thoroughly uninterested Kevin was in anyone his entire life.
This book accomplished one thing: it made me resolve to not bother with any more of E. Davies' books.
The title says it all lol. You can tell this is one of E Davies earlier books, but I enjoyed it and like the title....it brings the heat. I don't want to post spoilers, so I'll keep it short. After Eli catches his movie star fiance cheating..his best friend Dean makes him go away to sow his oats and lick his wounds, but once he meets Kevin all his wounds seem to seep away. Kevin's bff secretly signs them up to work and show themselves they can run their own business. Kevin a baker and Troy a bartender they open up a dessert bar and before they know it they're the hip spot on the island. Eli's ex tries his best to cause trouble, and win Eli back, but he's got no chance as Eli had already fallen for Kevin....
I loved it. The way Kevin figured out and dealt with learning his sexuality was perfect. Also, I liked the way Kevin's hearing aid was handled. Having the story in one book was awesome. It was fun to read it all in one sitting. I got this free for an awesome review. E Davies is a great author who I highly recommend reading.
New to me author and I highly enjoyed this one. The plot is quite cute and unique. I do wish though we had gotten a glimpse of Eli and Kevin outside of this luxurious place and see what’s next for them, but alas. Better to be left wanting more. The best part of discovering a new author is now I have a back catalogue to go through. :)
Not the cheesy pwp that I thought this might be. A quite enjoyable story with men who didn't jump to conclusions but got things sorted out as quick as they occurred. 3.5 up to 4 for GR
It was a okey book. Both guy were sweet. It was a beautiful story. Just, the Tom threat hanging over their head made me anxious. I skimmed the sex scene.
Once again E. Davis did not disappoint me. The story wasn't too long and drawn out. I loved the chemistry between Eli and Kevin. This is the first time where the cheating issue was handled the way I would have handled it. Eli's attitude when catching Tom was awesome. He told him to get out. He didn't beg him to stay. He didn't wallow in self pity the entire book, wondering what he did wrong. He let Tom's cheating butt go and I admire him for that. Another character I really admired was Tom, who played the part of the perfect unapologetic cheating ex. Tom was so freaking petty and I loved it. Of course I wanted him to lose and be forced off the island but it was awesome seeing him just being the most petty person. When I read a book with a villain, I like my villains to be horrible and petty, which is what Tom was. I wish there was a sequel to this book because I want Troy and Dean's story to develop more. Plus, I want to see Kevin and Eli's relationship grow.

This book was unbelievable, and not in a good way. There wasn't much about the book I liked. The good: Celebrates loyalty amongst friends and lovers. Has some sexy times that were good. The bad: Everything else. The relationship was lighting fast and very unbelievable. One of the mc's is described as straight and a-sexual but literally runs to a man's bed he just met with no hesitation. Everything felt rushed and fake. Nothing about this book felt genuine. I found myself skimming through it searching for anything that would reel me back into it. Didn't work for me.
I am still amazed at the depth of emotion E. Davies can portray so easily. In other HEA stories, the ending is clear as the sky is blue, at the end of the first chapter, that by the end of the novel, it can be so anti-climactic and leave you needing to feel more, than was written. The joys, the pains, and most of all the love is felt, throughout the work. The known, yet unknowing of how we get the HEA makes you keep turning pages.
I got this in exchange for an honest review, I am a fan of this author and lvoe his work so much and this one like the others is a joy to read the plot the story line are enchanting the flow of events is perfect for this one and as always his characters are very captivating the characters are sweet charming sensitive with their own issues and the passion is great the end was cool I was surprised but loved it and recommend this to everyone
While I was reading this, I felt there was something odd going on. Things felt disjointed and at times, things were re-explained after it just happened 5 pages before. Why tell me again?! I then found out this book was actually a 3-part series at one point. Explains why things felt a little off. Regardless, knowing this didn't make me like the book any more. It was very boring and I could care less about the trials and tribulations of the billionaires on their private island.
Really liked the friendships and how decent both Kevin and Eli were among the men on the island. I kind of ignored the evil Tom parts because it was more fun to enjoy the lovers and friends. And that setting was fairly innovative. Then the steamy last few pages were a great way to get to an HEA.
This is quite a sweet tale but it's badly in need of a good edit to catch some of the little mistakes which slipped through. Also the many references to Kevin's hearing aids seemed utterly superfluous and distracting when his deafness or hard of hearing as it was never made clear if he was deaf or not, just seemed thrown in randomly.
Likeable characters, interesting premise, cute story. The ending was a little lack-luster.. a week later I stuggled to remember how it had ended, hah. Overall I enjoyed it and really liked Kevin. :)
Received for an review from the author. Kevin and Eli are on the island for two different reasons. They are also from two completely different worlds. But the can't deny the feelings they have for each other. This book is so wonderfully written. You will enjoy it completely.
A nicely scripted story with strongly believable characters. Some tender and funny spots. The story is intriguing and keeps one interested and reading more.
