Seth Monson has barely scraped by his whole life. Still young when his parents died, he’s had to raise his two brothers himself, deep in the tiny Utah desert town of Obsidian. On top of that, age-old rumors about his family - that his ancestor made a deal with the devil so he could shift into an eagle - have kept him isolated his whole life.

Yeah, right. If Seth could turn into an eagle, he’d have flown away from his problems long ago.

Jules Morgan is the kind of girl who likes to get dirty, drives a truck, and knows her way around heavy equipment. A field geologist for a mining conglomerate, she’s on a job outside Obsidian when she crosses paths with the very attractive stranger standing by his very broken truck. She can’t seem to escape his deep, golden-brown gaze no matter how hard she tries.

When they discover that Jules’s employer wants to destroy the only home Seth has ever known, they’re both stuck in the middle, caught between duty and what they truly want, with unstoppable passion burning like wildfire around them.

Can Seth discover the power hidden inside himself in time to save both his home of Copper Mesa and the town of Obsidian? More importantly, can he do it without alienating the one woman - the one mate - he’s quickly realizing he can’t live without?

My Thoughts - 3 out of 5 Unicorns - I liked it!!!
***Received a copy of the ebook for an honest review

The cover is just awesome :) The eagle is stunning and definitely attracts me to the book.

This is my first time reading a story by Roxie, and it is the first book in this series Copper Mesa Eagles. It is definitely for adults only due to the steamy content.

I liked this book, but for me, it was slow in parts. I like a lot more action, but I think it also has to do with this being the first book in this world. It takes time to build a new world, and sometimes this can lead to a book having slow parts. It is usually necessary though for the cohesiveness of the book. I am definitely intrigued by this author and series that I’m going to check out more because I think it is going to get better, and I want to see what happens with the brothers and learn more.

I recommend this book to shifter fans because I think you will enjoy this book best especially if you are into eagles :)

I love Dakota West's book. I was happy to read another set of PNR books by her and I was not disappointed. It was not something I was used to reading. It is something unusual to read about birds. Dragons yes but not birds.

This first book is about Seth and Jules. Seth and Jules are on kind of on opposite ends. Jules works for the company that wants to mine Seths family land. So what will happen when these two get together? Will they work together? Or will Jules see it Seth's way?

Seth and Jules are soaring high on the wings of an HEA. Seth hasn’t had it easy in his short life. Fate took his parents all too soon leaving him to care for his brothers, the town their family has lived in for generations treats them as outcasts thinking them curses shifters, and now big business wants to take their home for their shady needs. When Seth is picked up by the bombshell tomboy Jules Morgan after his car breaks down his luck seems to be turning around. She would be ever so perfect if there wasn’t the teeny tiny issue of her working for the guys trying to evict him. Jules just likes to get her hands in the thick of it and get to it in all aspects of her life. When life brings her to Obsidian Copper Mesa and in to the arms of Seth Monson she is game to see just how it plays out even if it means taking on her bosses.

Cute

Story: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Trope: shifter, instalove
Angst: 😱😱
Smexy: 🔥🔥

This was a pretty cute shifter romance with likeable, quirky characters that you can't help but like. Super quick read. The ending felt a tad too rushed, but enjoyed it nonetheless.

Seth Monson & Juliana (Jules) Morgan.

Three orphaned brothers Seth, Garrett, and Zach Monson are disliked by everyone in the small town of Obsidian for being the decedents of a local legend.

“There’s a legend that my great-great-great...” he paused, like he was trying to remember how many greats. “...Great grandfather made a deal with the devil.”

Jules took a sip of her coke, her eyes going wide.

“What kind of deal?” she asked.

Seth shrugged, jabbing his straw at the ice in his drink.

“For a good harvest,” he said. “His crops tended to do better than other peoples’, but it’s because he had the land along the Elk River.”

… “Anyway, legend also has it that he and all his descendants can turn into golden eagles at will, and that at night we wreak havoc on the townspeople.”

“Well?” asked Jules. “Do you?”

“Only sometimes,” Seth said, laughing. “You know, when Billy Bob’s chickens are looking really tasty.”

Jules Morgan is in town to do geological testing for a mining company. Not only do they plan to destroy the mesa and contaminate the river, but the land they are trying to seize belongs to Seth and his brothers.

Seth and Jules met by accident, Jules saving Seth from a broken down car and a long hot walk in the desert. But before Seth can get around to taking Jules out to thank her for the ride, Seth has discovered the mining company is trying to seize his family land and Jules has discovered that nothing short of recovering a personal copy of the deed will keep the miners from destroying the land.

I enjoyed reading this story. It's very different than the shifter country books by Dakota West/Roxie Noir. The shifter aspect in this is very downplayed. This first book builds a lot of the world and gives us Seth and Jules' story. Seth is trying to save the land and his town by proving that his family actually does own it. Jules was sent to test the dirt in anticipation of mining but she can't handle what the company plans to do. She doesn't want to ruin the land for greed. She wants to help. Seth and Jules have an immediate connection. This story happens quickly and things flow fast. I didn't feel too rushed or anything. The story is a quick read and while we get resolution with Seth and Jules, I did feel like this sets up the series. We finally get some pieces to the puzzle at the end of the book and so I'm excited to see where that is going to take us in the next book.

Predator, book one in the Copper Mesa Eagles series.
Seth Monson grew up with the rumors about his family turning into giant eagles, but for him and his two brothers Zach and Garrett, it was just a story..or was it? Juliana Morgan (Jules) works for Quarcom, a company that buys up old mesa’s and turns them into mines, even though they can sometimes ruin the towns they build in. When Jules runs into the very attractive stranger on the side of the road, she offers him a ride to the nearby construction site. Though the chemistry instantly flares between them, they spend one night together before trying to work together when Jules discovers that the mesa her company wants is none other than the one on Seth’s family’s land. Now it’s a race against time to find what they need to stop Quarcom before it’s too late. Will Seth be able to find what he needs to save his home? Or will he lose his home, and his mate, forever?

This is Seth and Jules's story . Seth lives in a town that does not treat him , his brother nor anyone in their family right just because their crops did better than others years and years ago . Jules is from a different small town that was no longer a good town but a meth area . When Seth's truck breaks down Jules , who is hunting the work site she is supposed to be at , comes across him and gives him a ride . After his shock at seeing such a beautiful woman he finally gets his brain in gear and asks her out . This is kind of a slow read but it is still a good one . Well written and I enjoyed it . I received this ARC and wanted to leave a review on my thoughts about it .

This is done a little differently than Roxie's usual shifter books. That doesn't mean that it is not good, because it is. Seth and his family have been outcasts since it's been said his great great great grandfather made a deal with the devil to get good crops, and that he was seen changing into an eagle.
When Seth and Jules meet, their attraction is instantaneous, and shocks Seth, as he has never felt this way about another woman. There are some twists and turns throughout this story. The chemistry between them is hot and they are a perfect fit for each other. I can't wait to read Zach's story next and see what is in store for the eagle shifters.

I received a copy of this book through BookFunnel and I chose to review it. This one is a quick easy read. The story is well written. I encourage you to give this one a chance, it is worth your time and effort. The story not you regular shifter story there is a twist. I don't do spoilers so you will need to get this book to find out what that twist is. A great story, I can't wait for the next book in this series.

This is a very different kind of shifter world Ms. West created with Jules and Seth’s book. One that I loved nevertheless!
It has a very thrilling plot with some twisted turns, a very hot and lick-able construction worker and a tough though slightly broken heroine…. A throughout well concocted mixture for an enjoyable read!

Flight of fancy?
Or not? Flight dreams are pretty common aren't they?
But what if your neighbors are looking funny at you because they believe you are able to turn into a big scary bird? The same as your ancestors did!
Crazy, right?
Well, not quite. Because when the right woman shows up and .....
Naaah, not telling!
This is a completely new kind of shifter lore.

It's a novella, there wasn't that much story in it, OK but not enough for three stars. It did have a slighly different take on the shifter trope, with our main character not knowing he is a shifter to begin with.

That would be a pretty good fate. 5 GOLDEN EAGLES

The only thought in her mind was I want. WOW!! What a rock solid story! This is one EAGLERRIFIC story that made my heart soar! I ABSO-FEATHER-LUTELY LOVED IT!! I found myself a little surprised at how this story played out, but that is also one of the very same reasons why I LOVED it so much too!! Of course there are more, quite a few more, reasons to love this story but I will let you read and discover them all for yourself! Actually, I don’t think that there is any one part of this story that I DIDN’T LOVE! This is one of those unique shifter books where there isn't any shifters to be found... until there is! Actually, that's not quite true. Between all of the dreams, mysteries, legends, family history and everything else related to the Monson family, there is a LOT of shifter shenanigans to be found! I was immediately drawn to Jules and could totally relate, sympathize & empathise with her on so many levels. As for Seth.. well I would play 'Predator or Prey' with him any day! Hmmmm, I wonder if he knows how to play! I would be more than happy to train him! I mean, show him the lingerie straps! I mean, show him the ropes! ACK! Sigh I would teach him how to play. wink wink (hint: Although my version is pretty naughty and involves letting him catch & devour me… often!) Unfortunately I still haven't met my Seth! sigh In true Roxie fashion, I was swept away into a rather SHIFTASTIC world where I laughed, flirted, fumed, cried, loved, experienced and essentially lived the story not only with the characters, but AS the characters too! Roxie certainly has a way with words! She breaths such life into her stories via her EAGLESOME characters, their surroundings & situations, which are all wrapped up into a rather FEATHERTASTIC storyline! Add in the way that everything is so CLAWFECTLY described and you get a SHIFTACULAR story that is so rich, deep and EAGLETASTIC it'll make you soar! ALL of this and more, is exactly why I love Roxie & her stories! With both her magnificent talent and true gift for crafting such awe-inspiring, romantic, hot & magical stories, I am held spellbound from the front cover straight through to those two little words that I absolutely hate - The End! Right from the very first book of hers that I read – A Bear’s Protection - I have been addicted!! Roxie has quickly become one of my favorite authors! I EAGLERLY await each new release, then devour it as soon as I can. In fact, this is the second book of Roxie's that I read in one night/morning! I didn't mind sacrificing my sleep to read them, because come prey or high water, I was NOT going to wait any longer to read them!! I have yet to find a whole book, or even one part of a book that I haven't fallen in love with! To me, that is both precious & priceless... just like Roxie.

RC free book for honest review:

Roxie Noir delivers again. I think she delivered one of her best books yet. Even though I am a bear person, this story really took me for a trip. I love her use of the Golden Eagle , which happens to be a gorgeous bird and excellent choice for this book. Roxie takes her plot and story line and works them like the professional that she is. We have suspense, family history, evil people, a gorgeous Golden Eagle, and a perfect location. You want to laugh, cry, get mean, and fall in love right along with the book.

Seth Monson and his brothers have scraped by his whole life. he and his brothers were still young when their parents died, Seth being the oldest had to raise his two brothers himself, deep in the tiny Utah desert town of Obsidian. On top of that, because of the rumors about his family from the beginning Seth and his brothers had to deal with the town believing that his ancestor made a deal with the devil so he could shift into an eagle and this had kept him isolated his whole life. Seth actually wishes he could have changed into an golden eagle long ago and he would left this town and all his problems behind.

Jules Morgan doesn't mind getting dirty. She drives a truck, and knows her way around heavy equipment. 'She is a field geologist for a mining conglomerate she does not like, but they pay a good salary. She’s on a job outside Obsidian when she comes face to face with the very attractive stranger standing by his very broken truck. She can’t seem to resist his deep, golden-brown gaze no matter how hard she tries.

Seth learns that the company that Jules works for is wanting to destroy his gorgeous land for money and not caring that it will destroy his town and the land and home that has been in his family for hundreds of years. Jules finds out about the scheme and tries talking her boss out of it but he has no heart and want the money he will make by strip mining the Mesa. They are both caught in the middle, caught between duty and what they truly want, with unstoppable passion burning like wildfire around them.

Can Seth discover the power hidden inside himself in time to save both his home of Copper Mesa and the town of Obsidian? More importantly, can he do it without alienating Jules, the one person his doesn't seem to be able to live without?

This book has so much more for you to learn. I definitely recommend this book for you to read. It will make you want to go to Utah and see the Golden Eagle and the Mesa

Predator is the first book in Dakota West's new series, Copper Mesa Eagles (it is completely unrelated to the Shifter Country books). It's a little bit different, eagles aren't the kind of shifter you think about when it comes to paranormal books, but I have read a few with bird shifters before so it wasn't totally weird.
Predator follows the Monson family living in Obsidian, Utah. They're living on an old family plot of land, don't have much money and when a big company comes after their property it is only the start of their problems.
Seth meets Jules after his car breaks down on the way to work. She gives him a ride before heading to her own job where she's testing soil for the big company which is known locally for their shady mining practices. When Jules realises the new mine is going to cause serious environmental problems, and after a hot date with Seth, they try to fight the mine.
While all this is happening, Seth isn't welcomed by the town where his family has lived for over a hundred years. They believe that Seth's family made a deal with the devil and can turn into eagles.
This is where it deviates from the typical shifter story, normally they already know they're shifters. But the brothers don't. They think the stories are just legends, until Seth shifts. I think this was my number one problem in the book. The shifter element was really small. After Seth shifts it really isn't mentioned much afterwards. I'm hoping it will be talked about more in the next book, especially because the third brother presumably has no idea.
I did however like the story behind Seth and Jules, they're so sweet together. There's no judgement, even when Jules reveals her past, and why she's hesitant to believe he has good intentions. It's a really sweet read, and I can't wait to read the next book.

CAPTIVATING & STEAMY ROMANCE

PREDATOR-Copper Mesa Eagles-Book 1-A fascinating romantic story filled with a bit of family mystery.

This story features Juliana, a curvaceous, independent, beautiful geologist; Seth; a heart-melting gorgeous, charismatic, powerful shifter;

What you'll find in this story; a cast of impressive and engaging characters, superb banter, fantastic story-line, picturesque and dynamic scene descriptions, pent-up rage, gripping suspense, intrigue, spine-tingling heated romance, and a fabulous conclusion.

Juliana is a geologist who works for Quarcom, a mining company who only cares about making money and not the land it could destroy with its endeavors. When Seth meets Juliana he learns that Quarcom is planning to mine the land that belongs to him and his brothers. A frantic search begins to find the deed to his land. Juliana has insecurities regarding Seth's feelings for her as she has horrid memories of the past.

FANTASTIC well written creative read by a truly gifted author. I enjoyed this story, a most delightful read. The interaction between the characters is fabulous as they spring to life with the plot, passion and vivid scene descriptions. The chemistry between Juliana and Seth is convincing and their romance is steamy. If you treasure shifter romance with a touch of suspense this is an excellent book for your library. {I received a copy of this book for a completely honest review}. In the world of shifter romance the possibilities are endless and always fascinating. Without reservations I highly recommend this book.

The storyline is fascinating and has lots of suspense. The flow of words a great and the pace of the story is just right. Ms. Noir is truly gifted and so very talented and creative. The storyline is Magnificent and well written. I enjoyed the storyline so much I couldn't put my tablet down. But from the first page to the last I was memorized. The characters are engaging, fabulous and fantastic. The dialogue is passionate, realistic, and you will love the interaction between the main characters, the chemistry is scorching hot and they leap off the page with life that's so real. The scenes description are vivid, beautiful picturesque and dynamic with lots passion.

This is another hit by Roxie Noir. Seth is a native of Obsidian where all the folk stay far away from him and his family. Rumors are that his great great great grandfather made a deal with the devil for healthy crops about 150 years ago and he was seen turning into an eagle and flying away. He and his brother Zach are used to being outcasts. Jules is a strong independent woman working in Copper Mesa checking soil samples for a mining company. Jules meets Seth when his truck breaks down in the middle of nowhere and she gives him a ride. Sparks fly. Meanwhile, the mining company is preparing to "acquire" a large portion of Seth's family land to mine the mesa. Jules has tried to tell the company that they will cause catastrophic damage to the land and river if they proceed, to no avail. She overhears the shady way the company is going to take Seth and Zach's land from them and decides to do the right thing and tell them. Jules has such a take-charge attitude and sense of right and wrong and gets along well with the guys. She joins Seth and Zach in searching their attic (full of 150 years of discards) for the deed documents needed to stop the land swindle. As they get closer to each other, they also learn family secrets that surprise all of them. You must take the opportunity to join the family adventure. You won't be disappointed. I can't wait to find out about Zach's story. I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Juliana (Jules) Morgan is the youngest and only girl of four kids. She is your classic tomboy. When she decided on where to get a job after graduating college with a geology degree, she chose to work for Quarcom because of the money they were offering. She grew up in a small town in West Virginia and wanted a better life.

Seth Monson, at 31 years old, is the oldest of three brothers. He lives in the house with his youngest brother, Zach (27 years old). He was 17 when his parents died in a car accident and took over responsibility of taking care of everything. The house and land have been in his family for decades. His great-great-great-great grandfather came from Missouri and claimed the land in Obsidian, Utah in 1871. Now, he and his brother need to find proof that his family owns the land or Quarcom, a mining company, will take it from them.

When Seth first sees Jules, when she stopped to help him because his truck broke down on the side of the road, his reaction was this - The sheer lust was near-instant and dizzying, not to mention baffling. (Direct quote) Now he needs her help in figuring out a way to save his land from the people she works for.

The story line was easy to follow. The heat between Seth and Jules is well developed. Overall it is a good start to the Copper Mesa Eagles series.

living in obsidian isn't easy for seth and his family, old legendary tales held against him and the rest of his family just make it hard to make a living at all. when he's on route to the only person willing to have him on the job, his century old car finally breaks down. against all odds a car pulls up, revealing to him one of the most beautiful woman he's ever laid eyes on, offering him a ride to work. en route you can feel there is some mutual attraction and seth jumps at the chance and asks her out.
at home later that day, things don't really progress in a positive manner when he digs through months old of closed and is more then surprised to find letters stating their land could be sold right from under them if they can't produce some kind of proof the land is indeed theirs.
combine this all together with the new girl in town working for the same mining company that is trying to buy their land and a whole lot of confusion and misinterpretations hit the fan.
as things get serious and turn into a race against time one will start to wonder if all those legendary tales are just that, tales or if there is some truth in them?
you want to know about the legends? you'll have to pick up a copy of this book and find out for your self. loved this new introduction to this new kind of shifter. it was fast paced but very much a joy to read!!

Predator is the first in Dakota West’s (Roxie Noir’s) Copper Mesa Eagle shifters series. Sam is a construction worker whose family legend is that his great-great- many - great grandfather is one of the original settlers in their area of Utah and could turn into an eagle. The townspeople are superstitious and wary of Sam and his 2 brothers even though the brothers don’t believe that they could shift into an eagle. The rural land they own is extensive and a company wants to come in and create a mine. Jules is a geologist. She works for the company that plans to take over Copper Mesa and build a mine. She loves working with and testing soil, but she isn’t thrilled about working for this company as she believes they are destroying beautiful countryside and towns. She has strong ethics and it makes her question everything.

One of the things that I love about Dakota’s books is that she addresses topics such as interspecies dating, gay marriage, and now the environment while writing in a shifter world. While Predator is a novella, she does a good job with character development and creating likable main characters that have amazing chemistry together. The book is told from a dual POV and there is no cliffhanger.

I received this book as an ARC and I voluntarily leave this review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Predator (Copper Mesa Eagles, #1)
by Roxie Noir

Seth's family has owned the land of the Mesa for over a hundred years, or so he has always been told. He was also told stories of his Great-great-great-grandfather being able to turn into an eagle.
Now his family's land is in danger of being taken over by a strip mining company and he has no idea of where the deed is, if there is even a deed to be found.
Meeting Jules is one of the better things that has happened in his life, but unfortunately she works for the mining company that wants to ruin the Mesa, the river and the town of Obsidian. Fortunately, she doesn't want the strip mining to go on either.

Jules works for a company that she really doesn't like. She likes the work, but not what the company does. But, she keeps telling herself that if she doesn't to the job someone else will and maybe, just maybe she can help change things....sometime.
She meets Seth one morning and they really hit it off. Then she finds out that the company she works for is going to take over his backyard, so to speak, and she has to wonder if his interest in her is because he likes her or because she works for the mining company.

Unique shifter tale with mystery and heart!!

Seth has struggled to keep his ancestral home outside the small Utah desert town of Obsidian. When his parents died he raised his two brothers, despite the town’s disapproval and rumors of his strange activities of his ancestors. One more stroke of bad luck – a broken-down truck is temporarily remedied by passer-by Jules, a geologist driving to research the area of a new site for her employer Quarcom.

Quarcom is secretly planning to destroy Seth’s property for what lays under the soil. Their methods are highly destructive, but are new so there are not yet laws against it. The original deed to the property is Seth’s only hope in keeping his family property and preventing the area from being devastated.

Can these two – seemingly on different sides, work together to save the land. Is Seth truly interested in Jules or just after what she can tell him about the company? Does the deed exist and can they find it in time to stop Quarcom?
Roxie consistently creates fascinating sparks between her well-developed characters, and here she adds in an extra mystery, some family history to explore – and who is the shifter the series is named for?

Predator is the first book in the Copper Mesa Eagles series, a new series by Ms. West. Jules works for a company that she doesn’t like or think is ethical, but she loves what she’s doing. Digging with rocks and minerals is where she feels most comfortable. Until she picks up Seth on the side of the road, that is. Instantly feeling a connection to him, they go out to experience small town date night, but when the truth comes out about why she’s in his town, they work together to right a potential disaster! Can Jules and Seth save his land and explore their connection before all is lost?

I really enjoyed reading this book! It was kind of unique for a paranormal romance and I really loved the legend that flowed through Predator. Jules knew that what she was doing was wrong with her job, so I loved her fierce protectiveness when it came to Seth and his small town. Seth was such a good big brother, still able to have fun, brush off the negative when needed, and was definitely a hard worker. Together, they made quite a team, looking for any clues for ownership of their property, finding their way together, supporting each other, and even bowling! I liked that Ms. West created a new universe for the readers and I already can’t wait until I can read more from this series!

Seth lives in Obsidian, a small town in Utah that is miles away from anything or anyone. He is ignored by most of the town due to rumours about his family's history - in particular whether or not his great (add some more) grandfather made a deal with the devil and could turn into a golden eagle. Jules is a geologist who came from a small town, so she understands Seth and the circumstances under which he lives. Jules has reservations about the job she is doing, but the big bad company won't listen to her. These two, plus Seth's brother Zach, only have three days to prove they own the land, or the mesa will be mined and the ecology ruined.

In a world that contains shifters of wolf/bear/dragon/big cat variety, it is rare to find one about the winged predators! This made it stand out from the crown immediately, whilst the story backed up the promise of a short but entertaining and intriguing read. This is a short and steamy read that was filled with mystery and intrigue. Definitely recommended.

* I received this book from The Hunt Club in return for a fair and honest review. *

ARC - Dakota West, Copper Mesa Eagles #1 - Predators -
Seth and his brother Zach live outside of Obsidian, a small town in the Copper Mesa desert. The people are leery of Seth, as rumors have it that they are eagle shifters. On his way to his construction job, Seth's truck breaks down in the desert. He is rescued by Jules, a geologist for a mining company. Quarcom thinks they can buy Seth's property for mining, as there is no record of ownership. While Jules and Seth are very attracted to each other, there are problems because of her job. She does her work and informs Quarcom that this area is not good, but the company ignores her. Jules, Seth, and Zach search for the deed in the old family home and nighttime brings a lot of heat. Seth dreams of an eagle that takes him to the documents and is determined to search for the place. He hikes toward the place in his dream and takes a huge fall. Is he ok? Will they find the documents? Are Seth and Zach really shifters? Will there be a happy ending? You'll have to read the book to find out...
Lots of excitement, danger, and hotness...a great short read!
