WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK? It's been a long while since I was actually offended when reading a book but damn GINA, I feel like I lost some brain cells whilst reading this piece of horse crap. I mean, what the actual fuck? The only reason why I picked up this manga series (god bless, there were only two instalments) was that I needed them for an O.W.L.s challenge this month ("read a book that is set in the future" and ya'll know ya gurl is not reading sci-fi so I wanted something quick) and the fact that I got these manga for free. I am so fucking happy that I didn't waste my money on this shit.

I didn't know much about the plot before reading these, I just knew that they had good ratings on Goodreads (4.17 stars MY ASS) and were pretty much acclaimed in the manga-loving community. I trusted that. Big mistake. So here's a quick rundown of the plot: When the alien Mimics invade, Keiji Kiriya is just one of many recruits shoved into a suit of battle armor called a Jacket and sent out to kill. (Where the Mimics come from is never explained nor how they exactly work and why they want to take over the world; the world building in this manga series is so lacklustre, I can't even.)

Keiji dies on the battlefield, only to be reborn each morning to fight and die again and again. On his 158th iteration, he gets a message from a mysterious ally--the female soldier known as the "Full Metal Bitch" (no, I'm not making this up). Those characters pissed me the fuck off. I said it time and time again but the way certain mangaka portray their female characters is downright disgusting and something I cannot get behind at all. Throughout the manga, the few female characters that we saw (so Full Metal Bitch (kill me, please), the girls working in the kitchen and the one tech girl) all had big fat breast, wore the most revealing clothes (like bitch??? she is supposed to be a kitchen help, why is she only wearing a bra when serving out food to the soldiers???). And whyyyy are we zooming in on the tech girl's butt when she is searching for something?? Give me a fucking break. I hate how differently women are portrayed in manga from men. I'm not easily pissed off but the derogatory nature of that portrayal was so apparent in this series, I just wanted to scream.

Apart from the that, the plot is super weak and doesn't make no damn sense at all. Keiji is trapped in this time loop and so the entire plot is super repetitive. I didn't enjoy how the fighting montages were drawn and as soon as I realized that the mangaka was going for a love story being Keiji and Full Metal Bitch (still not over it), I knew this was going to be a trash fest. Just by the logic of this time loop (where Keiji only survives for a day and then wakes up on the same day again), Full Metal Bitch (still cackling, sorry) will never be able to get to know him and fall in love with him, since she can only know him for a day.... why are we doing this??? Why am I doing this to myself??? Oh right, to pass my O.W.L.s with flying colours. My inner Hermione is coming thru.

All You Need Is Kill is a manga about Keiji, a soldier who gained the power to re-live the same day over and over again every time he's killed in the battlefield. With the help of Rita Vrataski, a Special Forces warrior, Keiji would try and end the war and escape his fate.

I absolutely love this concept of dying every single day and trying to outsmart the enemy in order to gain an upperhand. In this manga, Keiji really tried his darndest to survive but whatever he did, it would always end with the death of soldiers around him, Rita, and finally him. The movie title really suit this theme; Live Die Repeat: Edge of Tomorrow.

I just can't get enough of the movie so the next best thing was to read the manga adaptation. (I really have to work on getting my hands on the original novel next!) I was already sold after finding out that it is illustrated by Obata-sensei who was also the artist for Death Note, Vol. 1: Boredom and Hikaru no Go, Vol. 01: Descent of the Go Master, another excellent manga series I might add. Lucky me (and you!) the great people of internet have already updated all the chapters so we can binge read it all at once.



The action scenes are top-notch and a joy to read, this manga is well thought out and the plot is fast-paced and it really shows the different aspects of war and the military (especially when you're fighting against flesh eating aliens!). The drawing is glorious! Highly detailed, beautiful and utterly gruesome. One thing I'd like to comment on is the design of the aliens. The mimics are different from the movie, they are even more weird and gross-looking which really creeps the heck out of me.



Furthermore, I love the moments between Keiji and Rita. It brings a sense of life and emotional depth into the manga. Overall, the plot is very solid and it makes you curious and interested to find out more. I was completely engrossed by this manga!

Please, please check out the movie if you haven't already. It's wicked and super cool!!! Plus it has a satisfying ending that would have you burst out clapping ecstatically, at least I did ;) I highly recommend this manga to those who love action, sci-fi, and mecha.

A little trivia; Rita Vrataski is named after Rita from Groundhog Day. Gosh I love that movie!

So I just finished watching the movie and was thrilled enough to read the book it was based on, but amazingly enough, it's also a manga! Woo! So I read the manga and it's cool and streamlined and has a fancy twist ending that didn't show in the movie but pretty much everything else of the broad strokes was kosher. Not a bad manga at all, quite decent and it felt like a good one-shot.

In the first volume, you get "He Said". In the second, you get "She Said. Onto the next volume!

2 volume yang perfectly captivating!! Wajib untuk dikoleksi oleh para pencinta sci-fi dan alien (yang suka film Edge of Tomorrow (2014)nya Tom Cruise yg legend itu, ide dasarnya film itu sangat terinspirasi dari novelnya komik ini(2004)). Lalu yang suka romance yang heart warming namun juga tahan setiap kali disayat-sayat (model 5cm per second), serta yang menyukai pertempuran yang keren dan seru, juga wajib ngoleksi komik ini. Why?

Mari kita bahas dari segi yang paling absolute dulu artwork. Artworknya Takeshi Obata udah nggak terbantahkan lagi. Udah sempurna. Kalo ada yang protes sama artnya Beliau, berarti minta dideath note rame-rame tuh orang. Adegan pertarungan yang kompleks, detail background, proporsionalitas dan desain karakter serta aliennya, mantap! Nggak ada protes dari saya. saya juga nggak mau dideath note masal, sih^^

Mengenai segi ceritanya yang mengusung ide time loop, menurut saya berhasil dieksekusi dengan sempurna. Saya betul-betul terkejut dengan mekanisme time loopnya yang dikuak sedikit demi sedikit dengan jelas dan ritme yang pas—rasanya seperti dibuat terkejut terus-menerus sampai akhir hingga kita ketagihan baca—padahal sistemnya kompleks, lho. Kemudian pengaruh time loop itu terhadap hasil perang dan hubungan orang-orang di sekeliling tokoh utamanya, sangat cocok, rasional, tapi sebagian juga nggak bisa terprediksi. Salah satu yg paling membuat saya nggak nyangka itu adalah dialog simplenya Rita di awal cerita. Beneran nggak nyangka kalo alasan dia mengucapkan hal itu ternyata sedalem itu. Dan saya nggak bisa membayangkan perasaan Rita tiap kali mengatakannya :’(

Chemistry yang dibangun antar tokoh—baik melalui flash back, time loop, ato nggak—semuanya terasa sempurna. Perasaan dan watak tiap-tiap tokohnya tidak ada yang dilebay-lebaykan, apalagi blurr. Semuanya jelas, bening, sebening sayur bening. Mungkin karena komik ini berasal dari adaptasi novel, makanya bisa keren gini. Tapi yg ngadaptasi ke komik juga pinter, sih^..^)/

Dan karena komik ini merupakan adaptasi novel, maka jangan heran kalau ada beberapa dialognya yang diksinya begitu mengena dan terkesan mengoyak-ngoyak emosi pembacanya. All in all, perfect adaptation! Whole 5/5!

Cerita : 8.5 bintang...yep, dua-duanya menjebol nilai standar 5 ala gudrit, tapi memang layak~
Aku sendiri belum pernah nonton filmnya, atau baca novelnya, ataupun nyimak sinopsis komik ini sebelum ngambil dan baca.

Pengalaman membaca komik ini sangat 'menyenangkan'! Bagaikan mendengarkan musik sedih yang menyayat hati. Walau isi atau lirik musik itu terasa asing, tapi melodinya menggetarkan rasa yang akrab, yang mampu kita kenali padahal baru pertama 'bertemu'.

Okay, okay, de la novela...

AYNIK es un relato bastante intenso, tanto por algunas de las ilustraciones como por la ambientación en general. Es un mundo post-apocalíptico que se encuentra en guerra contra unas criaturas terroríficas que parecen salidas de la mente de Lovecraft

La historia toma lugar tanto en la base militar como en el campo de batalla. Aunque podría sonar una trama interesante, el que pase mucho pero a la vez no pase nada es desesperante, supongo que esa era la intención de los autores, pero de todas maneras me ha hecho sentir parte del Bucle. En el mal sentido.

Las ilustraciones me causan un poco de conflicto. Aunque en general me agradan, aquellas que se centran en la guerra son poco detalladas y me costó un poco saber qué rayos estaba pasando. Igualmente, creo que esa fue la intención, pero me dejó un mal sabor de boca.

Lo Mejor: El final fue muy interesante y te deja con ganas de leer su continuación de forma inmediata.

Lo Peor: Pudieron sacar más provecho de ese +18 años

Tengo que agregar que yo odié la película. Me pareció un pésimo trabajo, y me tenía muerto de risa todo el tiempo. En el más horrible de los sentidos. Aún así, leí el Manga sin saber que tenían relación así que la opinión es propiamente para el Tomo.

Taklitçi denilen dünya dışı, yenilmesi çok zor yaratıklar tarafından istila edilen dünya vemetal savş ceketleri giyerek onları yok etmeye çalışan insanlık... Keyci de acemi askerlerden biri ve bir döngüye sıkışıp kalıyor. Her öldüğünde savaş meydanına çıkmalarından bir g��n öncesine dönüyor ama hiçbir şeyi unutmuyor. Çizimler çok iyiydi bence, hayranlıkla okudum. Savaş ortamı, dünya dışı yaratıklar falan fazla klişeydi ama zaman döngüsü olayı da bence gerçekten iyiydi. Ayrıca sonu aslında gerçekten merakta bırakan, vurucu şekilde olabilirdi ama içinde biraz tahmin edilebilir olduğundan beni aşırı şaşırtmadı. Genel olarak iyi bir manga :)

This manga is based on the Japanese scifi novel that inspired "The Edge of tomorrow" movie with Tom Cruise.
The story is quite good and the art is top notch, as an added bonus the whole story only takes two volumes so this isn't your typical manga story that never ends.
The very nice colored covert makes me wish this manga would get a coloring in the US(like Akira did), but sadly this probably won't be the case.

internetten değil de cildini elime alarak okuduğum ilk manga olarak all you need is kill 1, kesinlikle harikaydı. ki internetten okuduğum mangaları da tamamen tesadüfen okumuştum ve pek hoşuma gitmemişlerdi. yani aslında kısaca ilk okuduğum da diyebilirim.
hikayesiyle ve özellikle de çizimleriyle beni adeta büyüledi.
bir yandan ikinci cildi de okuyup bu kısacık seriyi hemen bitirmek istiyorum ama bir yandan da keşke upuzuuun olsa da doya doya okusam diyorum :|

Ando para escrever isto faz séculos e por isso peço desculpa, mas finalmente aqui está o que achei de All You Need is Kill de Hiroshi Sakurazaka e ilustrador por Takeshi Obata.
Já andava a que tempos para adquirir e quando soube que a Devir ia publicar pensei que era desta que o ia comprar. E sei que reclamo muitas vezes da Devir por se atrasar tanto nas publicações, mas agora tenho mesmo que dizer Obrigada e que fico feliz por não terem demorado nada ou quase nada na publicação do segundo volume que penso que nem um mês demorou. Obrigada ^o^

O mundo está a ser literalmente conquistado por Mimic, uma raça de aliens que parecem ser indestrutíveis.
Keiji Kiriya é mais dos milhões de soldados que são recrutados mesmo sem experiência, e ele é totalmente inexperiente no campo de batalha, e introduzidos numa armadura mecanizada desenvolvida para a luta contra os mimics.
Cada esquadrão é liderada por um sargento, e toda a operação liderada por Rita Vrataski, que é uma americana responsável pelos extreminio de vários Mimics e sua respectivas tentativas de denominação, tanto que já lhe chamam de Pantera Blindada.

Mas basicamente por alguma coisa que não posso dizer, Keiji sempre que morre no campo de batalha acorda no dia anterior como se nada tivesse acontecido e tem de ir para o confronto outra vez. Parece que dá jeito mas também é assustador ver morrer tantas vezes pessoas que começamos a gostar.
Keiji treina todos os dias para um único fim, não morrer, talvez assim possa dormir mais uma noite sem ter que se preocupar com o que iria acontecer e para com este ciclo que se tornou viciante e que não parece ter fim!

O segundo volume centra-se no resto da história mas temos Rita mais presente, e por enquanto ela fica no dilema, porque não posso dizer. Mas há muitos desenvolvimento no que toca a tudo isto, claramente por ser o ultimo volume.

O que me atraiu inicialmente foi ser ilustrado por Obata que *adoro, adoro, adoro* Mas a história em si é muito boa e tem uma explicação lógica, algo que tive medo que não tivesse. E a arte como se pode ver é mais uma vez excelente.

¡El primer manga que leo!
La experiencia ha sido buena, me sorprende lo rápido que se termina pero lo entretenido que es. Si bien ya había visto la película que adaptaron de este manga, tiene las diferencias suficientes para disfrutar nuevamente la historia. Lo que más destaco son los dibujos, me sorprende lo detallados que son, refiriéndome a las escenas de muerte, las expresiones de los personajes al morir son escalofriantes.

Solo tiene el detalle de que de pronto se le agrega romance a la historia, de manera abrupta e innecesaria, a mi parecer.

Format penceritaannya bagus, menampilkan dua sudut pandang protagonis dalam 2 volume yang covernya dikemas ciamik. Pacing-nya bagus. Tema 'mengulang waktu dan belajar dari pengalaman di masa lalu' sebenarnya sudah sangat sering ditampilkan (*terutama dalam dua tahun terakhir ini), tapi latar dan penyelesaian cerita di sini menjadi keunggulan tersendiri. Gambar Takeshi Obata-sensei (seperti biasa) enak dipandang dan mendongkrak efek pada sejumlah adegan emosional maupun laga. Beberapa dialog maupun rangkaian kata-kata mampu meninggalkan kesan mendalam. Oh, dan selera bacaan tokoh utamanya sama dengan saya.

Dunianya dangkal. Unsur taktis/strategis nyaris nihil; satu-satunya taktik tim Bumi vs. para alien Mimic sepertinya hanya 'andalkan prajurit super yang jago ngayun kapak'. Adegan pertarungan kurang imajinatif, kebanyakan hanya menampilkan protagonis yang membabat Mimic pakai kapak. Desain karakter Rita Vrataski sangat 'diidealkan' dengan postur relatif cungkring yang tidak koheren dengan kemampuannya 'mengayun kapak perang seberat 200 kg'. Tidak sesuai dengan selera sci-fi pembaca ini yang sebenarnya lebih mengharapkan cerita sejenis Alien atau Ender's Game.

Keluhan-keluhan di atas tergolong mudah ditoleransi bila mengingat komik ini hanya sejumlah 2 volume, sementara fokus utama penceritaan sebenarnya lebih menjurus ke sci-fi romance ketimbang sci-fi action atau militer. Yang jelas, AYNIK bukan tergolong hard sci-fi; ini bacaan ringan (*dari segi kedetilan cerita) yang lebih menitikberatkan pada hubungan antar kedua tokoh utamanya. Dalam hal tersebut, saya rasa komik ini cukup berhasil.

Ada beberapa momen tidak penting ("Malam ini aku kosong, lho.") yang seharusnya bisa dibuang dan halamannya dipakai untuk lebih memperdalam soal Mimic dan dunia/medan perang. Dalam hal tersebut, Volume 2 paling tidak lebih informatif & efektif ketimbang Volume 1. Ada juga saat-saat ketika beban mental dan penderitaan emosional karakternya yang harus berkali-kali mengulang 'mimpi buruk' kurang tersampaikan, tapi hal ini lebih disebabkan keterbatasan format komik (versi novelnya kemungkinan besar lebih apik dalam menggali jalan pikiran dan 'horor' yang dialami karakternya).

Bagaimanapun, komik ini diselesaikan dengan baik dan meninggalkan nuansa yang kuat.... suka atau tidak, saya rasa AYNIK akan jauh kurang berkesan tanpa ending yang seperti ini.

Pese a que al principio no logró atraparme, poco a poco ha ido captando mi atención hasta que lo he terminado. Violenta, brutal e intensa. El dibujo del mangaka de "Death Note" es sublime, y las escenas de acción trepidantes. Me ha gustado mucho, a por el segundo.

No voy a negar que el motivo principal por el que tenía tantas ganas de leer este manga era por los dibujos de Obata, me gusta mucho el estilo que tiene y a pesar de saber de la existencia de la película decidí a toda costa evitarla y empezar en blanco leyendo esta historia.
Lo cual ha resultado ser de lo más conveniente, me he sorprendido enorme y gratamente, he disfrutado cada momento de la historia y me he quedado con muchas ganas de leer su continuación.
Un soldado llamado Keiji vive indefinidamente en un bucle de dos días en los que tendrá que enfrentarse a la misma prueba una y otra vez, luchar con una raza alienígena que en este caso se llaman miméticos, cuya invasión ha generado que el mundo esté en constante guerra; pudiese ser que la primicia de la historia sea un cliché, pero bien desarrollada puede generar un resultado más que satisfactorio y a mí parecer en este caso se cumple el cometido, tenemos una historia que no solo nos presenta el problema de vivir los dos mismos días y enfrentarse al mismo dilema una y otra vez, sino también las consecuencias que se derivan de ello.
Hay bastantes escenas crudas e inesperadas que sirven para generar empatía por lo que está viviendo Keiji, escenas que me sorprendieron mucho, puesto que a pesar de que la historia se genera en medio de una guerra, no tenía idea de qué tipo de alcance iba a tener esto en la trama, es un recurso que necesariamente tiene que estar presente en la historia.

Ver el crecimiento de Keiji es uno de los puntos fuertes, la manera en cómo se las ingenia para mejorar constantemente con el tiempo que tiene y la resolución para ir consiguiéndolo puesto que no tiene otra salida, le confiere un carisma particular. No lo percibí en ningún momento como un personaje egocéntrico ni odioso, si no como un personaje que va ganando fuerza conforme avanza la historia.

Otro de los personajes principales es Rita, me encanta que sea un personaje femenino el que destaque por encima de todos los demás soldados, en un principio no tiene mucha participación preponderante más allá del símbolo que representa, el soldado invencible que le da algo de esperanza a la humanidad. Pero al final tendrá un papel bastante inesperado he importante que posiblemente no verás venir.

Otro de los personajes que mencionaré es Shasta, que aunque tiene un pequeño papel me ha gustado su participación, su presencia es algo contrastante con el ambiente que se desarrolla.

En cuanto al dibujo que es la razón del porqué he leído esta historia, en ningún momento me ha defraudado, amo el estilo de Obata, aunque admito que el diseño de Keiji me recordó en algunos momentos a Saikō (personaje de otra de sus obras, Bakuman) esto debido al estilo muy característico de este mangaka, sin embargo al avanzar se notan más la diferencias en el diseño de estos personajes. Hago la aclaración que este parecido en ningún momento me ha disgustado.
Las escenas de acción siempre son algo complicadas, puesto que al estar en movimiento los personajes el dibujo puede llegar a ser algo confuso, pero Obata maneja un estilo claro y limpio, lo que ayuda a que la historia fluya de manera continua y no se pierda el ritmo en ningún momento.
Contar más de la historia arruinaría la sorpresa de leerla, de encontrarse con esos giros inesperados dentro de esta historia en apariencia repetitiva y sin una resolución todavía evidente, pero es el desarrollo de cada uno de los acontecimientos que se van dando lo que le da su particularidad y lo que al final genera un gran deseo por saber que sucederá al final y mucho más como ya había mencionado antes debido a la manera en cómo termina este tomo.
En definitiva ampliamente recomendable.

Final algo predecible.
Lo que me gustó de este manga es la historia, creo que siempre he tenido cierto gusto por las historias que se desarrollan en bucles. Cargadísimo de acción.
Los dibujos me parecieron sumamente detallados y precisos, creo que no eran exagerados lo cual le dio cierto aire de realismo bastante interesante. Me hubiese gustado que el villano fuera un poco más complejo a nivel de imagen, pero creo que la historia se centra más en el bucle, entonces digamos que está bien que no fuera tan complejo.
Si sus personajes principales me parecieron bastante planos a nivel de personalidad y desarrollo.

Lo fuerte de este manga definitivamente es la dosis de acción.
Más allá de eso, la historia está bien.

After the Edge of Tomorrow this manga became really popular. Like many others I read it because I really enjoyed the movie.

Well, it's my very-very-very first manga. I am not into anime and I am not a fan of Japanese movies/books/etc. But I actually liked this manga a lot. It is funny and well-written, the drawing is awesome too. First 7 chapters in this volume covered not much of the whole story, but they were really funny and sarcastic. I think it's great that they made them more about Keiji's everyday life and less about war shots.

I know I may be wrong because it's my first manga, but I found it really great.

Premier tome sur les deux que compte cette adaptation en manga du light novel japonais du même nom. Et qui a donné l’adaptation ciné Edge of Tomorrow.

Durant une guerre contre un envahisseur extra-terrestre nommé Mimic, nous suivons le soldat Keiji Kiriya. Ce qu’il a d’extraordinaire c’est qu’il vit les deux mêmes journées en boucle.

D’abord déstabilisé, il va prendre conscience de sa chance et de s’en servir pour passer d’un soldat inexpérimenté à une arme de guerre.

Ce premier tome est vraiment addictif, les boucles s’enchaînent sans devenir ennuyeuses. Kiriya est vraiment un personnage combatif, qui veut vraiment devenir meilleur afin d’évoluer le plus facilement sur le terrain et mettre fin à cet assaut et peut être à cette boucle temporelle.

Das ist mal eine Adaption. Es übernimmt so ziemlich alles wichtige und relevante vom Buch und trimmt genug Fett das man auch nicht weiter vermisst. Ein paar Momente sind leider etwas übererklärt was wertvolle Panels kostet und auch der verfall des Protagonisten musste etwas plötzlicher erzählt werden. Außerdem, maaaan, sieht der nun edgy aus. Er ist bei manchen Panels nicht mehr weit von Levi aus AoT oder L aus Death Note entfernt.
Ansonsten aber die Geschichte gut erzählt, das ganze "und nun siehst du dabei zu wie der Protagonist lange lernen muss was die Prämisse des Buches ist" wurde ordentlich gerafft, es wurde der perfekte Trennstrich für die beiden Bände gewählt und some gooood Art. Die Exosuits und Waffen sehen amazing aus, kein großer Fan der Feinde tho. Das hat der Film besser gelöst.

Adaptación al manga de la novela homónima, muy buenos dibujos, atractivos, sobrios y dinámicos, la historia es tal cual con muy pocas licencias creativas, se centra mucho más en nuestro personajes sin profundizar tanto en los demás, me agradó bastante.

Muy recomendable para conocer la novela, disfrutar este manga e interesar al público en leer la fuente original y quizá ver la película.
