An explosion. A death. The destruction of a popular Elm Grove business. Charlotte Anthony, caught up in the ensuing chaos, wonders what the victim meant when he said he knew something "that could get us both killed."
Once again, Charlotte teams with Detective Barnes as they strive to unmask the criminal. Her efforts are complicated by her relationship with Donovan, when it seems that they both have secrets they are unwilling to share--and as important figures from her past suddenly appear in town.
As Charlotte uncovers the layers of the murderer's motivation, she also reveals the dark pasts and secret lives of those she thought she knew well, testing her faith in her fiancé, her friends, and herself.
The Charlotte Anthony novels are traditional, character-driven mysteries whose overarching theme is how the past informs the present, and how even a small town in the American Midwest can be connected to a much larger world.
Meg Wolfe is the author of the Charlotte Anthony mystery series, and a long-time blogger and essayist. She is a member of the Alliance of Independent Authors.
After starting out in life as a writer, Meg experienced illuminating detours in garden design, cooking, and art before coming full circle back to writing. She lives in Valparaiso, Indiana, with her husband, artist and photographer Steve Johnson.
I actually bought this book as part of a 4 book kindle bundle, but I like to list them individually. This 3rd in the series had some serious editing problems. Almost half of the book had part of one page missing. It was like the 1st page ended and then the next page started a line or two farther on than where it left off. Made figuring out what was going on difficult. I have never seen this in any other kindle book I have bought. Annoying. The story itself was ok and I liked it.

Just wanted to add a post script to this review regarding the missing text issue. I was contacted by Meg Wolfe as soon as she saw the review, who besides telling me how sorry she was, was able to find a solution. All I needed to do was change the font size on my kindle to fix the problem. Makes me like this series and author even more. And if the issue ever comes up with another ebook I can fix it myself.
This book was less fun to read than the others. The main character's constant drinking really bugs me. Also, a big part of the story was relationship problems and fighting, which is depressing. I'll finish the series, but I'm not excited about it.
Again the third book by Meg Wolfe does not disappoint. Charlotte and Donovan start a life together but not without grief and danger. This story like the other two makes you think and inspires you. Can't wait for more.
I just finished this third installment of the story of Charlotte & Donovan. It left me wanting MORE! I sincerely hope Ms Wolfe continues the series, because I felt a "connection" with her characters that is rare for me.
