Bears Fur Hire #4

Wolf Fur Hire

Rate this book
Like every other McCall werewolf in history, Link is headed down a short road to insanity, but he’s determined to go out on his own terms. Those terms? Repay the people the broken McCall pack has hurt before Ian Silver has to put him down. Hope is a dangerous thing for a doomed man like him, but when he meets Nicole, an instant and undeniable connection sparks between them. She might not be a typical beauty, but she’s stunning to him and stirring his inner monster up in ways that make him think that maybe, just maybe, she can save him from the McCall madness.

Nicole Brand is in Alaska to discover a part of her life she didn’t know existed. The father she never knew was killed by a wolf, and in an effort to understand who he was, she throws herself into wilderness living. But a chance meeting with a tall, dark, and growly stranger has her thinking that maybe it is fate that has brought her to Galena, Alaska. The more she gets to know the man she is falling desperately hard for, the more of Link’s dark secrets surface—and some of those revolve around her father. She should’ve listened when Link warned her about how dangerous he is, but now it’s too late. She’ll have to decide whether to return to her safe life in the lower forty-eight, or to stay and fight for the man who seems to think she can save him.

I really liked this one. This had more of a serious undertone, unlike books 2 and 3. This one went back to a more poignant tone like we got in the first book. The fact that it was also about Lincoln McCall, the Wolf I've been curious about since book 1, given his family history, it did not disappoint.

Though I do wish that there were more hot/intense moments between he and Nicole. The bond they have, which is beautiful and how they came to be, what we were shown in snippets with them just didn't do them justice IMO.. But the overall plot and the happenings surrounding them were a great read for me.

I would recommend this one definitely. Like I said book 1 and 4 are the best in this series thus far. I would still recommend books 1 through 4 though. Since I am not interested however in continuing this Bear Shifter/Wolf series with the Dawson Brothers, book 4 will be my stop to exit this train.

I’ve been looking forward to Link’s book, because I have a little soft spot for the “doomed” wolf shifter., and was really pulling for him. I felt like he started changing a smidge the last book, and it continued here. His “sane” personality almost came across (at least for me) kinda kid-like, and I can’t say I LOVED Nicole. She (IMO) came off sort of like a stalker; she’s on this quest to find answers and grow into herself/independence, but rather meets Link, and has this insta-love/obsession thing starts going on. Unlike the realistic, sweet/natural relationship we saw between Elyse & Ian in Husband Fur Hire; this felt rushed, and a smidge unhealthy. There wasn’t enough time/growth/development for these intense feelings to “feel” natural or normal.

Bottom Line Not bad, but I haven’t enjoyed any as much as the first book, so I think I’ll stop with Link’s hea. I really liked Link, and I'm glad it worked out for him.

I was so excited to finally get Link’s story. I have developed a sweet spot for that man (wolf) and I wanted so badly for Link to get a happy ending like the Silver family he’s become a part of. Out of all these characters, he's the one that pulled my heartstrings the hardest. Nicole was absolutely perfect for him. Both she and Link are incredibly strong characters, but working together they were even stronger.

There’s a surprise reveal from Clayton that took me completely off guard. It was good to see Dalton and Chance again and I’m glad we’ll get their stories also.

I adored Link in other books in the series, and was so pleased when I heard he was getting his own book. This wasn’t my favorite book in the series, but I still liked it a lot. It was fast paced and well executed. I love how everything wrapped up at the end. I will definitely read the other books on the other wolves.

I had been looking forward to reading this one. Link McCall was a massive drawcard in the series for me. He was interesting and I felt sorry for him that no matter what happened he had a death sentence hanging over his head. Insanity sucks.

I am not a huge paranormal fan but this series by T.S. Joyce had a great plot line and kept my interest besides who isn't against reading about a well hung shifter roaming around in the snowy mountain towns of Alaska?

Not this little Aussie Lolita!

However, I feel let down. Why? Because of his leading lady.

Nicole, I tried, I really did.
She was too pushy, too needy, too accepting... she was just too obsessed. One look at Link and she was backing up ready for his lovin'.

Woman! Have some respect for yourself!

Her biological father, was a hunter and trapper, killed in the wilderness in Alaska by a wolf. He was savagely torn apart while running his trap line close to the cabin where she now currently lives. Now if your FATHER got killed by a wolf you think you would a little bit wary of wolves? Give them the side eye, attempt to shoot them if they came onto your property? ... and sure she was too... for about 5 days until 'it' started bring her dead fish and rabbits. Then she decided it was a friendly wolf and gave it a cutesy name.

Bitch, you crazy as all hell.

Link's wolf decides that Nicole the clinger is the perfect human for it, much to Link's dismay. After much turmoil on his part (I still love Link, he's a gorgeously written character) they quickly end up in bed with together trying not to have puppies. Author's wording, not mine. Lucky she knows what birth control is, although the whole time I'm reading it I'm thinking... "I bet this crazy bitch would poke holes in the condoms or 'forget' if she knew she could get away with it..."

I felt sorry for Link. He deserved better than a rushed, frantic insta-love relationship. I felt like Nicole and his wolf pushed the whole time and Link ended up thinking... fuck it.

Anywho, drama ensues and Link is saved by Vera and her laboratory concoctions. I still am girl crushing on Vera the feisty, kooky fox.
Nicole gets her man/wolf and her cabin in the woods and they all live happily ever after. Except for the rest of the McCalls because fuck them that's why. No need to share the cure with everyone right?

Ugh, I was so looking forward to this book too as the others I had rated so highly.

I've been looking forward to doomed Link's story! And it wasn't half-bad, the last bit was a bit maudlin and underwhelming and certainly not as good as book 3, but, what the heck, I'm just a fan of this series!

OMG, I knew Link's story would be awesome!

Link is almost going mad as the McCall curse dictates, but he has accepted his lot in life and is ready to meet his maker, problem is his best friend Ian will be the one to put him down, but better him than anyone else.

Until he meets Nicole that is, he discovers that she is the daughter of a man his brother Cole killed and he has been trying to atone for. She even has the same birthmark on her face, but to him the woman is the most beautiful thing he has ever seen, but he has to stay away from her especially with the madness coming on....

Nicole has been taught since she can walk that she should cover her birthmark lest she be ostracized. Only this beautiful man loves it and says she shouldn't hide it. Nicole is the best thing that could ever happen to Link, she loves him and wolf. She treats them as separate entities and wolf adores her. She is perfect to the treatment of Reversal that Vera is working on for LInk, but will it be enough to reverse the curse?

Kudos Ms. Joyce!

When I realized this book would revolve around Link I was happy. He's someone who has grown on me as the series has gone one. I hated how with each book he became closer to the bears all the while he kept asking Ian to make sure to kill him when the time came. Link changed his life around, he deserved to live.

Nicole was a great person for Link. She seemed to be seeking her own place in the world and really believed in Link. Heck she didn't even get thrown when she figured out Link changed to a wolf, instead she loved both sides of him. This was an important part because that love kept the wolf and man centered giving Vera enough time to work her magic.

I loved the last part of the book. Loved the letter and how the picture was described.

This book is gonna be difficult to review. Ok... uhmmm...

So I met Link in book 1, came to like him in book 2 and fell in love with in book 3. During those 3 installments I was given information about him that showed me who he is, what he wants in life and what he values. I found him a lost soul in search of redemption and me being me I wanted badly for him to find it. So I was very invested and excited about his story and I have to say I find myself incredibly disappointed and conflicted. Link grew a LOT and sort of "blossomed" as a character during 3 books and by book 4 we find there are clear points about him, he is loyal, caring, noble and in a quest to pave his road to an honorable death. He is also CRAZY. The way his craziness is described and what it does to his life works well in the book and it can explain some things he does throughout the book that wouldn't be understandable or accepted in a sane character by the reader, but that's where problems for me start. That he is crazy (and we've established how crazy he is in 3 books) doesn't mean his actions should be understood and/or accepted by other characters. I mean some things are not healthy no matter why they happen and presenting them as "ok" or romantic because Link has issues IS WRONG. Because Link is a lot more fleshed out than previous main characters the pace in which things change for him is perfect, the way he changes is fine, cause as a reader I already had a base line to him and be able to understand and appreciate his growth and evolution.

BUT this doesn't translate to Nicole, the female lead. She comes to Alaska seeking answers and a connection to her past and her future. This is something profound, a very noble quest, but instead of making this her show of independence and growth it becomes a tie between her, Link and her relationship to Link, saddly making me feel less impressed by her "achievements" and her strength as a woman. Instead, what became clear and was brought up constantly was her need of Link and her attraction to Link and her confidence (unwarranted cause she didn't even know him) in Link that if this wasn't a romantic fiction could've ended up as a chapter for Criminal Minds or at least a study on toxic dependent relationships and personalities. (STALKING ISN'T HOW YOU SHOW AFFECTION PEOPLE!!!).

I just realized this review is gonna be long, oh well.

Pardon my liberty to make a suggestion, but, I think this book and couple would've been better served if the author had expanded the time line to cross with the previous books. Start by making Nicole and Link meet in book 1 and this being the catalyst to make Link change allegiance and show he's better than his curse or his cursed family, then show him pine for Nicole and help her adapt to living in Alaska while she finds herself and grows to become independent and confident in herself and her roots around book 2, then as Link grows crazier he crosses boundaries self-imposed that pushes their relationship into passionate territory he cannot accept because of his curse, so he is desperate for Tobias to go find the witch in book 3 so he can save himself and build a relationship with the one he has fallen in love with and by book 4, his book, he's hopeless but Nicole already knows her mind and heart and doesn't wanna give up on Link, specially after finding out about his secrets and so they embark on their journey to find a cure, save Link and/or build a relationship that saves them both from the possible heartache coming. What do you think?

I think the characters and plot had a lot of potential that feels a little wasted for how things were rushed in the story. Otherwise, I did enjoy further in the book how Nicole is with Link, they are quite the sweet couple, specially because of Link's vulnerability and their fight against fate. I also like how their makeshift family has become, a ragtag group of people who love each other, that's nice. I did enjoy their interactions, specially between Vera and Link, I also love Vera, she's the best female char in the saga, for sure. The fight scenes were awesome, the humor on point, the romance not as cheesy but somewhat dramatic in a way I was able to enjoy and the way things end made sense and prepares the way for the next book.

Not to be too picky or anything... but I also didn't agree with Claiton's part in this book. While some information given here tied things up for his actions in previous books the way he is to be made part of their group feels forced. Maybe I'm biased because of my own life experiences, but someone who acts abusive and narcissistic shouldn't be allowed back into the fold so "easily" by people NOT the injured party. I understand the girl's reasons but I still think the injured party should considered more for this, and not just patronized into a "this is good for you, accept it" kind of situation.

AND... sorry again, not to be picky, but at this point I've realized the sex scenes in all books is eerily similar to the point of appearing formulaic... is that the case? Cause it was distracting. A LOT.

To finish off, I did buy the book and I'm pleased by the way things ended up for Link, he deserved his book and his HEA and do recommend reading it for those following the series, definitely not as a stand alone, but I'm conflicted whether it brings the series up or down and if it is worth buying and re-reading. Maybe re-reading over time will make some things better, who knows? Maybe.

LINK GOT HIS OWN STORY

And it looks like Dalton and Chance will too!!!!!! Happy dance!

LINK has had my love for so long now I don't think there was a time I wasn't cheering for him...and when Vera didn't think she could save him I was heartbroken...but it turns out he needed a mate for the cure to work, and along came Nicole...perfect timing!!!!

Merry Christmas to me! Favorite book in the series. In each of the previous books you build up this affinity for Link- he's the dark horse that keeps pulling through for everyone. Completely engaging story that you feel fully immersed in. So excited Dalton is getting his own story as well. Just like every other one of Joyce's series, I'm not ready for it to end yet. Definitely will reread.

Link McCall’s (Husband Fur Hire) trying to be the exception, not the rule in his family. Link’s working to repay his family’s debts of theft and hurt with honest work, even making friends with the Silver brothers who’ll be called to put him down. It seems the family legacy of madness and going rogue is holding as Link starts to sink.

Nichole Brand learning about her father, dead a year by wolf and relocates to Alaska. Almost as soon as she gets there she literally runs into Link as he fights his latest psychotic episode. ink finds out Nichole is the daughter of one of his brother’s victim and decides he has to do what he can to help her as a way of making amends.

From the first glance Link and his inner wolf are as attracted to Nichole as she is to him. While Nicole tries to drum up the nerve to ask Link on a date, some of Link’s scattered family pack find out he’s alive and is attracted to Nicole. That’s all the incentive they’ll need to make him as miserable as possible. And for the makeshift pack to help.

This is the fourth book in this series. They are better read in order. This book focuses on Link and his mate. Link is fighting his wolf and himself. He is a crazy McCall after all. Then he meets Nicole. But she deserves so much more than him. Her father is dead because of one of his relatives after all. Nicole thinks the wolf wants to hurt her until she realizes he doesn’t. Then she learns that the wolf is also a man. She moved to Alaska to discover who her father was and some of her past. She is about to learn a lot more. She never knew her father and wants to learn about him. Buying his cabin was the first step. This book is a fantastic read. I want for Link to make is so much. Finding a mate maybe just the thing he needs to ground him and help him fight his nature with the help of Vera. This series gets better with each book. I can’t wait to read the next one. Another fantastic book T.S. Joyce.

This is an enjoyable read with steamy romance and lots of obstacles. Link McCall is trying to make up for all the wrong his family did. At the same time, he knows his life will be ended by an enforcer before he goes mad like the rest of his family. Then he meets his mate who is the daughter of a local who was killed by his family. He fights his attraction to NIcole but looses his battle. He is hoping for a cure to the McCall madness so he can be a good mate for Nicole. He gets it all when Nicole becomes his mate and he gets a solution for his madness. Well written with a happily ever after.

Link and Nicole

Wow! We had already meet Link in all previous books in this series and I was totally liking forward to read his story. I can't said I was not disappointed! I knew it was going to be emotional due to the McCall curse and he was running out of time before the Silver brothers had to put him down. Nicole was The perfect mate for him, keeping him steady until Vera could find the cure. The twist at the end was fantastic and the epilogue a tear dropper. Highly recommended

Man, rereading these stories is just heartwarming!

I love love LOVE that Link got his own story, and somehow, through all the chaos, madness, and failures, he managed to not only save himself, but his friends and those he loves with all his heart and mind! I was so happy when the Dawson cousins took that chance to give them all a better life, and to see the Silver and McCall families finally thriving and expanding does a heart good!!

I know originally this book wasn't planned but I am so, so, so glad it happened. From the first book when Link came around for Elyse & Ian I have adored him. And how he continued to do right on through the next two books I grew to love him even more. So thrilled was I to find out he would get his own HEA! And Nicole, that darling woman who helped keep him steady & anchored...became her own badass Alaskan woman...how could you not love her too!

Love me some Link

This is the best book of the series, so far. It made me cry two separate times.

The individual histories of the main couple are so deep.

The characters and situations brought to life, in this series of books, shine a light on hurt that I think is prevalent in many families but kept hidden.

The message I received was that despite your internal or external struggles, you are good and have worth. And you deserve to be happy. ❤

A wonderful series!

These aren't the "expected" or average PNR books. They're different. Stories and characters are built with incredible depth. You find yourself caring about the people and the outcome. Because we all know that sometimes authors can throw us a curve! These books are worth owning, because you'll want to read them again.

Fur Better and Better

I was so happy that Link McCall had his own story. The series keeps getting better and better. Life lessons include finding a new family if the one you are born into is unhealthy, listening and forgiving family that made choices that hurt, fighting for hope and love.

Crazy shifter is saved!

The first 3 books of this series focus on bear shifters- the Silver brothers. Through them, we learn a lot about the crazy McCall wolf shifters and fall in love with Link McCall, the one good and redeemable McCall out there. Link is going crazy and in this book we see him escape the curse! It’s a great story and you won’t be disappointed!

This is my favorite book in the series so far. I even got emotional reading this one. I loved it. I recommend it. Vera is still the funniest person in the series! Those middle names she was giving him were wild lol. Link deserved a book. He deserved a great story. He deserved to be loved and wanted.

This book was shorter than the previous ones and the story moved at a fast pace. Link has limited time to hang onto his sanity, so it makes sense that things with Nicole progress quickly. They don't have any time to waste. But as Nicole deeper in love with Link, she's determined to keep him. With Vera's help, the goal is to save Link from the McCall curse.

a returned Yupik finds her wolf

Great story. The McCall pack maybe unsalvageable but one will fight to not become a man eater. He finds his anchor in a woman who didn’t even know her heritage. They both find family in each other and their friends. The path to happiness is hard and they will fight for a future together. Enjoy!
