I asked Callie for a copy of this book for my review. I have never read a book that had anything to do with catfishing.

When I read the synopsis, I knew the story would have turned out two different ways.

1. She wasn't really catfished and they would live happily ever after.

2. She was catfished and she was heartbroken about it.

It was obviously partly the second one. I don't think she was really heartbroken about the situation, just embarrassed.

Emma talked to "Jack" for a year, even considered herself in a relationship with this person. She's never met him before. It wasn't until her friend Damie brought it up that Jack may not be Jack. They do some investigating which leads to Emma finding out that Jack is a girl named Taylor.

They also find out who the real person is in the pictures. When they find out he lives close by, I already knew how the story would end.

Sam is Taylor's ex boyfriend. She's trying to get revenge on him for leaving her. She's psychotic. All she does is drive Sam and Emma together.

They start dating and end up living happily ever after.

I really enjoyed the concept to this book. It was a wonderful read. I honestly would have been able to read it in one sitting if it weren't for my daily schedules being so busy!

The story Fake introduces us to Emma a young woman who is in love with Jack whom she has been “dating” for a year. But they have never met in person and only communicate through text and social media messaging. It is hard to swallow that she would let a relationship go so far without even meeting Jack in person. Yet when you get the feeling she has had bad relationships before the attention she gets from this person is a welcome balm to her. When the opportunity finally comes to meet him in person he never shows using the same excuses he has before. And on an innocent visit to the local market she and her best friend both see him there but she does not say anything leaving her with only one thing to do. This being the last time she is made to feel the fool, Emma and her best friend, Damie decide to look into the possibility that he is not who he says he is. With some clicks on the computer and some information of “being catfished” they come to find some news that is hard to swallow. He is NOT who he says he is. The pictures used are of a man named Sam who lives in their town who they saw at the market. This man matches the criteria and information of “Jack” and that leaves Emma reeling and shattered. Some more cyber investigating bring up the name of a woman named Taylor whom Emma is sure was there at the café the day she was stood up by Jack the last time. Heartbroken and feeling completely horrible for being duped for a year Emma decides to send the real man, Sam, a message warning him about the stolen social media identity. Though she is hurting she knows he has a right to know what has gone on. What will his reaction be? Will Emma ever get over this relationship disaster? What about the real man Sam? What is his story? And how did he get chosen to be this man Jack? It is an enjoyable story with wonderful characters that I hope the author revisits again with the friends we met in the story. This is truly a sweet story about a disastrous love that leads to more possibilities.

2 1/2 stars. I do not typically critique the writing of a book, however this was bad. The story-line had potential, however I just found it all a bit unbelievable and poorly written.

I read this summary and thought: YES! I need to read this! I used to be in a long distance relationship with a person I met online in an online game. I have never met him in person but skyped with him anywhere between 6-15 hours a day, every day for about two years. So I thought, this book is almost like what could have happened to me if I wasn't careful with who I talked to.

Okay enough about me...

One thing I did not like: I wish there were a little bit of warning on the author's part about one thing: this book includes detailed sex. It came as a surprise to me, and I am kind of shocked there wasn't any warning on it from any reviews or the author herself. You can skip the two scenes that are within the final 13% of the book, but I still would not recommend this book for any reader that isn't mature enough to handle those two scenes. I am only writing this review because this book as fantastic points that someone needs to mention and the author did so beautifully. The main points: be careful who you are talking to. If you met anyone online always research them before you become attached.

The book itself had a fantastic plot, interesting characters, and sudden love. I would have loved to see more character development because I couldn't tell one character from the other, and more developed love than love at first sight, but do keep in mind that this is a novella and meant to be shorter than normal.

Wow what can I say. I loved everything about this book. Once I started reading Fake I couldn’t put it down. I wanted to know what happen and what was going to happen. Callie Stone does an amazing job describing her characters and bringing them to life. Emma was such a fun character. You feel bad for her in the beginning when she finds out everything that is going on. It really sucks when you invest your time in someone you never meet and then they turn out to be someone else. Through everything she remains strong. She was easily someone you could be friends with in real life. FAKE was such a different story idea. I am so glade I was able to read it. I can’t wait to see what Callie Stone has in store for us next. I found a new author to follow and read. I highly recommend this book.

What a great story!
Callie Stone takes a fresh look at love, trust and online relationships. Emma has the perfect boyfriend. Jake has a respectable job, a nice online personality, plenty of pictures. Too bad he never shows up to meet face to face. Living a life online, Jake knows he can't meet Emma. Jake has reasons to keep hidden, to keep playing the game, living the lies. Nothing lasts forever, the truth always comes out. How will Emma pick up the pieces of her shattered life?

Catfishing is something that happens all too often, people making up different names, living a life of online lies. Be careful who you trust, how much you share. More than your heart can be broken.

WOW - This is the first book that I have read by Callie Stone and all I can say is WOW WOW WOW. This is definitely one of those books that will suck you in and make you want to read the whole book without stopping for a break.

The main character of this book is Emma. She decides to do a little online dating and is sucked into the world of catfishing - where a person makes up a profile that isn't really them. I don't write spoilers -- but the way that this story unfolds will leave you .... Sorry - got to stop before I give the whole story away.

I was given a copy of this book for an honest review.

Good Storyline

Overall, the premise of this book is good. I would have enjoyed it a lot more if the time frames were different and a little more believable. I can't believe the length of time and level of emotional intimacy dedicated to a relationship based on texts and very few phone calls when she has never actually met this person face to face. That was a big question mark that resided in my head and distracted me throughout the rest of the book.
The story itself is believable and very good but the time frame of the "online relationship" should have been shorter because she should have caught on a lot quicker than she did.

I was impressed with how fast I was interested in this story. Emma is such a kind person, that doesn't deserve what happens to her. Seeing her and her best friend unfold the truth about her boyfriend is infuriating and sad. This felt real, and having seen a friend go through this, the emotional rollercoaster that Emma goes through is quite accurate. I couldn't put it down until I finished it.The way the entire story evolves leaves you sucked into the characters and wanting a happy ending for them.
What a great first book from a new author, I look forward to her next book!

I was SO excited to read this. And then I started and it was just... It was like listening to a teenager talk, but not in an engaging way. YA has amazing narration and fantastic narrative leads, but I can't say that was the case here. Maybe I needed to give it more time. It has a lot of awesome reviews so far, but I just wasn't hooked from the start. So. Maybe another time.

Ok

This being a shorter story, I was amped for it to be packed with excitement, but it failed me. The story itself was one most women could benefit from reading, but I don't know a lot of women who would continue an online relationship for a year without one skype interaction or any proof that the person is at least physically who they say they are. Maybe I'm wrong??

I really enjoyed reading this novella. From the very first page till the end of the last page I was hooked and could not put it down. It moved along at an amazing pace, has awesome characters and a fantastic story. This must be read, no doubt about it.
